Very fun game. Loved the upgrades. And the platforms were generated as well? amazing. Art is very fitting as well and movement and combat feels really good. Nice work!
This has Vlambeer written all over it. The 'U've not reached the throne' line might be a bit too cheeky, though. Not sure if the hanging off of platforms was supposed to be helpful, but I almost died a few times because of it. Also, are upgrades supposed to persist throughout playthoughs?
When I saw your idea/progress post I thought - the coins being the final score would nicely balance out the shops and make it a risk/reward kinda thing and sure enough, there it is. In any case, it plays nicely and the use of the theme is just spot on.
@secretpocketcat yeah, the upgrades are supposed to last. THis way there's some progress to be made and adds variety, cause else some players might get bored buying the same stuff again and again... But maybe it would be more fun if you had that risk/reward thing going on... Usually I would try all different versions and see which is more interesting and fun, but there was no time for play-testing! ;) glad youliked it!
Awwyiss made it to the throne a second time with 9077 points :) Nice game! Controls were tight, it all felt polished. I think I experienced some slowdowns at times though, and this computer should not have any problems
I didn't really see a point not to take the money, maybe the enemies should be stronger?
Well done!
Can't play it on mac, but this looks fun!
Fantastic!
fun and challenging game, it gets easier with time the more you play the more power up you get and i like that it doesn't reset when you die. the art style, VFX, and animation were awesome and SFX adds the game mood, however missing bg soundtrack make it feel a little bit quiet sometimes. the procedural generation of blocks keep the experience engaging and the 100 (especially the one with wings) give a sense of achievement. the throne and the crown look beautiful. the real fun starts after that tho XD. great job thank you for making that game <3
@notime4games Thanks for the feedback! I think the cause of slowdowns might have been enemy stacking. I should have programmed it so the enemies despawn when they're far away! And yeah, the money starts being useful when you reach the throne, but before that you can spend it on upgrades, and when you get them all then you should avoid it.
@finntastico thanks for letting me know!
@4Knights Thank you for playing!! <3
really like the kinda annoying sounds, also it's fun that I can shoot all the time. The difficulty is well balanced and I had fun playing
Cool fast pink action game! Just keep the camera shake to minimum.
So good, couldn't stop playing!
Cool Game but it crashes when i collide with an enemy.
@neowhoru thanks for the feedback! Are you on Linux or Mac? Maybe thats why it crashed..
A really fun game! My only complain would be that you keep your upgrades after dying, meaning you don't start every run with the same configuration. But that's really a minor complain ^^ Otherwise, fantastic entry. Loved the graphics (even if a real background would have been nice :p), the handling is great, loved the idea... Congrats on such a great entry!
Nice game! It is really fun. Very polished too. My only complain would be that it is too easy to close the shop accidentally and you can't pass through it without open, but this is just a minor nitpick. Good job!
@zeu31 right! The shop opening and closing is a bit annoying xD I didnt have time to think about the most comfortable way to do it. thanks for playing and commenting! Glad you liked it!
great work pere! really liked how the game progressed. the fact that you keep your upgrades and once you get to the end the game completely changes! wasn't expecting that xD but very cool. good luck man!
thanks! I like to reward my loyal players that get to the end of the games with something dope rather than have just a "thanks 4 playing dude! replay?". Gota add some end-game value!
@terakorp comment above is 4 you <3
OK So first thing I did in this game was notice that the left/right move controls were satisfyingly tight. Hrm, okay, I said. Let me test this developer: I jumped, and then just a bit before landing, I hit the jump button again to see if you would correctly buffer the input and make me jump again upon landing. And you did! Altogether I have to give high marks here for the nice tight controls with attention to detail.
I probably could have done without the edge-grabbing, which sometimes screwed up my flow and was nearly never what I really intended, but it was a cool feature to show off your character-controller chops anyway.
I had fun with this, and there were a couple of times where I was alllllmost ready to call it quits but came back for "just one more" or to see that next upgrade. Ended up playing the whole thing and getting to the throne, although my score was only 75 when I got there, so nothing amazing.
Very nice touch to have the post-win runthrough bring a new challenge!
The only critique I can offer is that when playing, I mostly just held down "right" the whole time, and "shoot" the whole time. This wasn't really that much of a problem, but I wonder if there was some twist. Whenever I find myself holding a button always, I try to change the game, either making a more balanced reason not to hold it, or else removing the button and making the game auto-go. This was a very minor flaw only, though.
Another aspect of the design that I liked was that high ground had value because your shots could not go through the terrain but your enemies could. So if you got stuck under and overhang that was your worst moment -- here comes a guy but you can't shoot him until he's right in your face!
Overall I enjoyed the feel and design of this, and the art and sounds were pretty solid.
Nice entry!
@pkenney Thanks for the revieww!! :D I dunno what you mean by the jumping thing... But I did put quite an effort on making the controls responsive and satisfying :) I agree the ledge-grab sucks hahahah cause you can actually jump very fucking high, so theres no need for that ledge grab and it just slows down the game... Lesson learnt: sometimes you dont have to put all the tricks into the game, and different games will require different controls.
Glad I got you hooked! xD I think the shop and upgrades give a sense of growth and also a curiosity that makes players want to keep playing. ANd of course I like to reward the player for his time by giving him a new challenge after they won.
And I really agree that the player shouldnt be holding a button all the time. Actually I've pointed that out in other games, but I didnt realise I was making the same "mistake"... And I dont know what the right way to fix it would be... maybe auto-firing or maybe some bullets stuff... but I'm not a fan of bullets... I thought about knockback but then your jumps would be different if you were shoooting or not so some people might get frustrated by that...
anyway.. thanks for the comment dude, it really helps when someone looks into your game and really thinks about it, and give you a good, deep comment. :)
