Really nice twist on the harvesting/harvester concept!

tutti-ankka 2023-01-10 00:17

Suprisingly fun little game! Hardest difficulty was definitely "Hell" as you had named it. Only managed to save 37% on my best attempt. I think this was pretty good use of the theme overall.

offdutyextractors 2023-01-10 00:18

Very simple but still somewhat fun.

rustynoob 2023-01-10 00:23

Great game I really enjoyed it. I did find the steering a bit difficult but other then that I enjoyed everything about this game

richard-jedlicka 2023-01-10 09:12

@tutti-ankka 37% is quite good 👍

@rustynoob yeah, driving combine in high speed is not easy 😄

daxic 2023-01-10 22:13

Amazing game, I spent the most time playing your game. Drive model feels really good and the difficulty is well selected for each level and the Hell is really nice challange, manage to harvest 34%.

superpokeunicorn 2023-01-11 05:30

Neat idea! Trying to figure out the best strategy to save as much field as possible was fun, especially on the higher difficulties. It's great how hectic things get when the fire starts spreading out of control. I do wish it gave me some sort of grade so I know how well I did; seems like it always says "victory" so long as you don't die. But, overall, a pretty enjoyable entry. Nice work!

truechips 2023-01-11 09:49

surprisingly fun little game. Also very hard ;-;

The first thing I thought to myself when seeing the game was imagining an angry guy commiting arson in the dead of night yelling "Liar Liar Crops on Fire". Just the testament of my awful sense of humor I guess xDDD

Also I saw your blogpost when the game was in development where you created the hellbringer combine, and I just wanna say that i you ever update it, please add it as an easter egg or another difficulty lmao.

puttputtthetruck 2023-01-11 09:56

Love the UI and the style! Smart gameplay idea too!

richard-jedlicka 2023-01-11 11:04

@daxic I should mention the driving algorithm was inpired a lot from youtube, more info in the description.

richard-jedlicka 2023-01-11 11:09

@truechips Haha, a group of arsonists running, hiding in the fields and randomly starting a fire was my first idea :D Unfortunately I didn't manage to fully implement it.

The hell rider as an ester egg seems funny :D Or it might be the Hell defficulty.

richard-jedlicka 2023-01-11 11:11

@superpokeunicorn Yeah, some sort of grade would be nice addition, I can hire you as level grader to create some reference :D

richard-jedlicka 2023-01-11 16:38

My best score in Hell 😁

best-score-hell.png

noskro 2023-01-11 17:30

Cool game. The controls feel just right and it looks amazing. After 86% percent on hard, I guess now I still have to get a decent score in Hell :D And btw: I first thought I was clever and just ran through the fire, only to figure out on the 3rd fire that there is actual damage :D Otherwise I would have had at least one point to criticize

masternoob 2023-01-11 17:36

The wheat and fire look really good. It's fun to play, but way too hard for me to control. I always end up driving into the fire.

richard-jedlicka 2023-01-11 17:36

@noskro Yeah do not play with fire :D ... The difficulties are not actually well balanced, but the Hell is real challenge.

publicidadeba 2023-01-11 17:36

5/5 design. Great job, elegant. You should be proud, this is a clever game, I wish I made it.

flaming-aardvark 2023-01-11 17:44

Fun game, Wow is Hell mode ever hard, but in a fun way. I like the graphics, the controls are perfect in my opinion, it feels clunky because combines ARE clunky, totally perfect. Great game!

foggydude 2023-01-11 18:17

Managed to get 22% in Hell Mode. I love hom simple it is but it really is addictive. I think if this had leaderboards it would be really fun to compete for the highest score!

thesmellofoxygen 2023-01-11 19:11

Quite fun and quick. Wish there was some sound and perhaps some tiretracks.

richard-jedlicka 2023-01-11 19:17

@thesmellofoxygen yeah mee too, not enough time 😥 (low game-making skills actually 😀)

camden-obertop 2023-01-12 02:24

Simple concept, fun execution! Had fun containing these fires. I really like how quick to the point the title is!

hawkin 2023-01-12 02:28

This was a fun idea! I think I would have liked a little less squirrely control, as I overshot my turns quite regularly. Sure it was challenging, but it was a bit more frustrating.

I managed to get 48% on "Hell" by trying a few strategies. Definitely tough!!! @richard-jedlicka YOU'RE ON BUD :D

Screenshot 2023-01-11 202842.png

Oh, and I definitely felt "spent most of the time fighting with Unity" ... I have felt this in pretty much every Jam. But you know what? It gets easier. I think these last couple of times, I felt a lot more confidence. So stick with it!

richard-jedlicka 2023-01-12 09:34

@hawkin Congrats, great result! I understand the controls are not perfect the thing is the pivotal point of the harvester is in the front, but yes you the steer factor is the same despite the speed which might feel a bit unstable. I'm not sure how it would behave in reality, but I've never seen any harvester driving this speed 😀.

And to fighting with unity, yeah I'm sure I'll get better in this, I already have some experience with it so it could have been much worse 😅

callax3d 2023-01-12 22:37

I find it impressive how you managed to add multiple difficulty options in such a short amount of time. Strong concept, was fun going through it as it got more tricky. Mini map is also a great idea for something like this

ditam 2023-01-12 22:43

What a delight! Plays very smoothly, and the concept is very fresh too. Some audio could do it wonders, but it's still one of the most memorable and fun games I've played this jam, congrats!

I managed to do 100/97/84 percents on easy/normal/hard (ramming the fire before it spreads is imba), hell was a bit too stressful to finish for me.

noeloskar 2023-01-12 23:11

Got 80% on hard ksnip_20230113-000947.png Really nice, i think it def could use some audio, the idea is good, the controls are nice, i like the multiple difficulties, cool game, keep it up!

profan 2023-01-12 23:39

I love it! Also woo another person who made a game with a combine harvester in it :D Drifting around in the harvester, cutting tracks around the fire so that it could not spread to all your crops like some kind of overpowered firefighter is very enjoyable indeed.

A little sound would definitely add to the experience, like hearing the crackling of the fire as you drift past in your tuned up harvester! The minimap was a really great addition too, and it's really satisfying seeing the tracks you've drawn in your field!

Honestly wish I'd leaned more into the "harvester go fast" bit given this game, nice work!

Managed to get 88 % on Hard

LD52_3PVoRvw3PO.png

But Hell is a whole other story, definitely a new level of difficult :D

mad-rabbit 2023-01-12 23:44

Hey, great one, mate! Simple, but really addictive!

moonlightbomber 2023-01-13 00:37

In the words of the Angry Video Game Nerd, this game is definitely not buffalo diarrhea.

gizmolo 2023-01-13 06:35

This game is awesome! Perfect little game jam, and suits the theme so well. I've been able to beat every difficulty except for hard, earmarking this so I can come back and beat it! Great work!

justin-c 2023-01-13 07:05

Interesting little game. It's a fun core mechanic that I wish you were able to do a little more with, but I definitely sympathize with you for running out of time. I cut more features than I implemented, including sound.

I originally chose the Normal difficulty, beat it in about 20 seconds, and then was ready to criticize the game for its length. But then I noticed that the difficulty settings are actually distinctly different levels that use the same mechanics, rather than the same level with difficulty ramped up or down. What you really should have done is split the game into levels. Then your average reviewer would get more playtime out of the same content.

Solid entry. I enjoyed it.

lila-pause 2023-01-13 12:31

Really cool concept! Haven't seen a firefighting game like this one before. The driving is physics are also tough in just the right way. What I would have loved is more variety in level design. Having levels with obstacles to avoid or puzzle-y solutions would have been really cool.

richard-jedlicka 2023-01-13 13:10

Thank you all for a positive feedback. I was a bit concerned about the result after the submission. So I'm happy to hear it turned out well. 😊

@ditam Yeah I definitely wanted to add audio, but did not manage to do it in time. Ramming the fire before it spreads is not imba imho, it is good part of the strategy especially in Hell difficulty. But I see the easier levels are not well balanced.

@profan Yeah fire cracking sounds, I had exactly this on my plan.

@justin-c Splitting game into levels with different difficulties might be good, but because of the short time I'm glad I added at least the more variants than one.

@lila-pause Yes, obstacles would be great addition to the game I would do it if I had more time.

patrickrmc 2023-01-13 22:40

First thing I did was drive into the massive fire and die, 10/10 would play again.

Really cool game tho, fun trying to figure out best routes and fastest way to stop the fire from burning all the wheat. Good job.

miltonnh25 2023-01-14 12:19

Good job with the game. It was surprisingly satisfying to drive through the wheat field and I liked the hectic nature of the game as the level went on. The controls felt a bit too sensitive to me personally but still manageable. I also enjoyed the option to sacrifice some of your harvester's health to put out fires as it added a bit of extra strategy. Nicely done.

vidarn 2023-01-14 20:46

Cool idea, well executed. It was a lot of fun and the way the fire spread felt quite realistic.

gotanod 2023-01-14 22:34

Good game. For me the controls are over reacting when you kept them pressed. Great work!

pauljs 2023-01-16 16:42

Nice little twist on the theme!

artsyomni 2023-01-16 17:27

Really nice concept! I'm pleased that my immediate instinct to try to encircle each fire before it spreads was exactly what I needed to do. It's pretty satisfying when you can get your "racing curve" so to speak to be as tight around the fire as possible without getting too much damage.

I appreciate the fact that there's no penalty for taking damage, since it encourages the player to actually use HP as a resource, since taking damage without dying actually helps you save more of your crop from burning.

flyingkaida 2023-01-17 15:58

I am horrible at this game lol. Super cute, but sooooo hard to control the combine. Nice entry.

chase-of-bass 2023-01-19 10:48

This was great! Super challenging! Really satisfying to put out the fires and felt very fun to control! Awesome work on this! :D

froissant 2023-01-23 14:13

It was really fun driving the combine, but hell mode really felt like HELL  I'll try to revisit it when not live streaming to avoid people making fun of me.

cassowary 2023-01-24 08:05

easy - 94% medium - 87% hard - 81% hell - 28% :sob:

Really cool. Well-scoped for a 48-hour jam, keeping it simple let you add a lot of cool polish/quality of life stuff! Love the minimap especially as well as the different difficulty levels. Controls feel appropriately snappy yet the right amount of awkward for this type of game :p

zimny11 2023-01-26 23:54

Awesome game! Really nice game concept, only thing is some hype music :) Also, how on Earth anyone could get 40% on Hell XD Maybe a variant with random starting points to fire, would be nice... Anyway, good job with the game.
