Okay I'm going to give some very generous ratings on this one. Dear @pecc0r @larkinia @lenaschimmel @flauschzelle and @blinry GREAT J O B.

But one thing: *RATE SOME GAMES* I found this in the 0 section, no one's seeing your game because you're not rating or commenting on any games, and this here could potentially win something! Don't let it go to waste!

So those of you who've seen the image might be wondering what this game is all about since the description is a bit vague: You build "sacrificial" alters to customers. - Vampires - Gnomes afraid of monsters - Little girls wishing to appease the tooth fairy

the game manages to be outright hilarious with very minimal dialogue. Of course as the customers are varied so are the orders. To build these alters you use various nicknacks, besides the large assortment in the above image you'll also need to use items like: - Tomes - Skulls - Octupus Tentacles.

Then why not just build whatever? Each item has a set of weights assigned to it: (Physical) weight, "fluffiness", shininess to name a few. Usually you're given a goal to reach but sometimes you're constrained.

To give you an idea the most complicated order I saw was: - Reach the cuteness goal - Keep it "light" by adding as few "heavy" parts - Give it a flower shape

(Also a tip here: for shapes the bar goes down if you exceed the outline a lot)

There were a few minor glitches, the way pieces attach to each other is a bit weird and you kind of can run out of room... But all that said it's really impressive that you could make a game like this in 3 days with so few people.

So guys *please* help me rescue this from zero, it belong in the upper ranks!

salierus 2018-12-04 23:15

This is great! It's so different from everything else and really well executed.

Sounds and visuals are all very charming.

Really enjoyed Writespace last time so I figured I'd see what y'all were up to this time, and I wasn't disappointed! Quite unique.

mateusboga 2018-12-05 13:55

I must be soing something wrong, my version of the game has no text. How to fix?

lenaschimmel 2018-12-05 15:09

@mateusboga Oh, that sounds like a weird error. It never happened on our machines, so I don't know about possible fixes. But with some more information, we might try to reproduce the error and find a fix.

Can you tell us what operating system / version you are using, and which version of Löve (except when you are using the Windows EXE file, which come with Löve built in)?

If it's not too much work, maybe also send us a screenshot.

I'm using the Windows version on Windows 10 64bit. I don't know if it has to do with my graphics driver or not. It's Intel Core i5.

flauschzelle 2018-12-05 17:56

@mateusboga it's probably a problem with your graphics driver or maybe even graphics hardware :/ not being compatible with LÖVE 11 on Windows. We tested it on some other Windows machines and it worked there. I just found that other LÖVE 11 programs seem to have the same problem on some specific Windows/graphics combinations (see here: https://love2d.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=85649).

I hope we will find a way to fix it. Until then, could you try to update your graphics driver or try to play it on any other computer?

(Or even try to play it on the same computer but on Linux... I think my laptop also has Intel Core i5, but the game works correctly on it - I'm using Ubuntu Linux.)

etdofresh 2018-12-05 19:38

Ah, the working life of a handmade sustainable sacrifice scuplturer.... never knew what it'd be like until now

flauschzelle 2018-12-05 19:41

By the way: the Linux/Mac version will probably also work on Android with the LÖVE app, but we haven't tested that yet.

garymarance 2018-12-05 19:45

Hey ! I reeeally want to play your game and it seems it's not working for mac, would it be possible to do something ?

flauschzelle 2018-12-05 20:01

@garymarance can you describe the problems you have when trying to play it on mac?

Also, what LÖVE version do you have, and what macOS version?

garymarance 2018-12-05 20:41

This was soooo much fun ! Definitly the game I played the most in this jam. When I realized items could be picked from the box, my my, I did spent some time on your game, thank you for that, and well done ! Here's a fish : Capture d’écran 2018-12-05 à 21.10.38 copie.png

ommadawn 2018-12-05 21:25

Very funny game !!

larkinia 2018-12-05 21:49

@garymarance Oh, what a beautiful fish! When I created the light bulbs I hoped for someone using them as scales. Thank you!

remco 2018-12-05 22:33

Utterly charming :-) The game really relaxed me with its atmosphere.

I found that creating the larger shapes could be a bit tedious, since occasionally you're just waiting for a needed part to show up (this becomes frustrating when the effigy has the 'not heavy' requirement as you can't dump pieces on your work any more).

Part of it's charm is the way it's been polished, it mostly weaves in the tutorialization quite naturally. (Except for the rotation, and a couple of other things like 'you have limited space' and 'storage is finite', but those are easy enough to figure out. Also on the last 'level', the humonculus needs to be light and that isn't mentioned I think?)

In a similar vain, the snapshots of the players work at the end are a nice touch.

... and of course I likes the characters and/in this world, neither of which are given a full explanation, but hint at something much stranger stories :-)

flauschzelle 2018-12-05 22:35

Thanks for your feedback and for the pictures, it's great to see what works of art you all have made so far!

@salierus @garymarance @themadprogramer I'm currently working on a blogpost about this game and would like to include some of your pictures there. Would that be ok for you?

garymarance 2018-12-05 22:51

@flauschzelle Yes please, introduce this fish to the world !

themadprogramer 2018-12-05 23:12

@flauschzelle fine by me

salierus 2018-12-06 09:33

@flauschzelle Feel free to do so.

2018-12-06 15:03

Really, really nice game. I included it in my compilation video series of games from the Ludum Dare, if you’d like to take a look :) https://youtu.be/Lq0vHUPYciI

100th-coin 2018-12-06 16:08

Oh boy! I sure hope the tooth fairy likes it!

Ohboy.PNG

But seriously, this game is great!

thecritterscove 2018-12-06 16:40

My favorite game this LD so far. I definitely played it longer than I should have. One issue I had towards the end was a lot of repeat items. It made the last request impossible the first time I played through. It was still enjoyable enough to play through again. Only other thing that bugged was the slow or wonky rotation. Everything else about the game I really loved.

simon-rahnasto 2018-12-06 18:19

This is a very neat entry, I feel like this is a better version of the "shopkeeper"-type games that generally have you construct things after a very specific recipe. But here you get to create stuff the way you want to, and it makes it feel more authentic. I tried to make my stuff look interesting/good as well as ticking off the requirements needed.

The art style is coherent, consistent and very good. Overall a fantastic game

velvetlobster 2018-12-07 02:04

one of my favorite entries so far! Excellent on innovation theme and lovable graphics! This would make a fantastic mobile or even pc game! Very very good! Music is really cute too

lenaschimmel 2018-12-07 02:50

@velvetlobster Thanks! In fact, when we begin a new game, we usually try to allow mobile gaming. In this case, we decided to use only one mouse button, no drag & drop and no keyboard input, but later on dropped mobile support. We'd have to implement two-finger gestures for rotating and, more important, the game relies heavily on pixel-exact item selection, which is very hard to get right with touch input.

That said, love-Files usually run on Android just fine (The Löve-Engine used to be on the Play Store, but it's gone and there's no apk-Donload for 11.2. This [apk for 11.1](https://bitbucket.org/rude/love/downloads/love-11.1-android.apk) should work though). iOS is technically possible, but politically difficult.

If you connect an Android phone to a mouse via Bluetooth or USB-OTG-adapter, it should work just work and be playable. We didn't test it yet.

homeworld 2018-12-07 09:20

Very interesting and creative game! Great art and writing, i could definitely see (and play) a version with more content on mobile! I want a bigger store that i can decorate!

sam-machell 2018-12-08 10:45

Nice game! I really like the art style and the world that you've created! It's fun to play games where the goal is to some extent subjective - means there's lots of room for player expression!

zozer 2018-12-08 15:23

The concept was nice however, I don't think it has much to do with the theme. there is no criticizing for what object you made so you can give people a pile of a random object and they still be happy with it. I know its very hard to add any kind of ai that will criticize objects you made but still it's pretty essential for this kind of game. other than these the game is pretty good. well done.

jsmars 2018-12-10 08:16

Haha wow what a fun entry, really nice work on this one! :D

smilewood 2018-12-11 04:56

This is a neat concept. I like the interpretation of the theme. I thought that the artwork was well done, and I liked the music ad sounds. I did find it a bit difficult to build the sculptures because of the mouse scrolling, it took a lot of scrolls on my mouse to get things to spin around. Partially because of this and partially because I am not that great at sculpture I didn’t get that into this game, but I did like the concept. It was hard for me to tell what the goal was for the shape-based sculptures, I couldn’t tell if I was losing progress from going outside the lines. This was an interesting concept, and well done in this small time frame, great job!

arvejeitor 2018-12-12 13:34

Nice artwork, it's an interesting and fun game.

nekonyo 2018-12-15 19:07

Nice idea and fun writing from the clients 😁
