I enjoyed it, disappointed that I didn't get to see how badly I placed at the end.
feel like you could of balanced your time a little differently between the art and the gameplay as all the weapon systems are in but the only time I ever interacted with one was because I ran into it on purpose,
would of liked to see a bit of rubber banding as they all shot of and left me alone at the beginning but considering the time the AI was good enough

I agree with Dickie on a lot of points, but I still really enjoyed it. I'm mainly just impressed that you got together a 3D cart racer in so little time. The AI could use to tuning down though, and I agree that some form of end-of-race stats is a biggie. Doesn't have to be numbers though. Maybe the AI racers just all wait at the finish line to mock you or something? Then you have a nice visual of how you did.
I really like the look and feel of it, well done!

I always salute racing games in Ludum Dare!

sluce 2015-04-20 13:41

I really like how you took a racing game and did something different than cars! It was a cool and innovative idea. However, character selection doesn't work it gives you the penguin every time.

Thanks for the comments everyone, muchly appreciated!

Yeah, I ran out of time to fully finish the game off, so there's a few loose ends that I'll tie up for a post Ludum Dare game.

A pretty enjoyable game, I did have a few nitpicks although that could of just been how I played. The graphics are quite nice especially the text effects.

strong99 2015-04-20 18:25

Amazing how well this worked. Too bad some indications where missing like finishing place. Overall well done!

holgk 2015-04-20 19:30

Nice work! Well done!

Cute! Wow.. completing a racing game with AI and everything in a single weekend is a wonderful accomplishment. Congrats. Great work!

codecranker 2015-04-22 03:30

It would be great if the game let you know what is your position otherwise it feels like I am racing around without any purpose or may be its there and I didnt see it :D. Good job.

Surprised at how much I enjoyed this, really good work, nice one.

almax27 2015-04-23 22:27

That was tremendous fun! The camera sound have done with being a bit higher, as I found by penguin obstructed by view somewhat but otherwise solid game!

terraneola 2015-04-23 22:47

I am impressed with the graphics that you achieved. How?!?! :)

I was pretty hapy with them myself. I went pretty hardcore on the 3d this time, although I'm still using an old tool called Milkshape 3D, which is fairly minimal when it comes to abilities, compared to blender, or just about anything. But I can use it with a greater amount of ease than any other modelling software so it makes things a bit easier on me.

The hedgehog character is a morphed version of the penguin character which really saved me hours of time but, yeah, I went more ott with the scenery here, I figured it would be nice for there to be something away from the racetrack at any point in the lap to draw players eyes about the screen.

I had fun with my first time playing with height maps generated from textures, which helped to make it a little less flat in appearance. I'll be looking into adding extra features over the coming weekends and months to see if I can turn this into something pretty cool!

dracomagna 2015-04-23 23:35

Oh god ... that was so disturbing, the atmosphere is soooo creepy!
I loved the idea of the Lego piece that hurts the animals.
I was sad when I picked the hedgehog I played with a penguin.
Anyway, despite that, good job, this game will haunt my nightmare from now.

I'm pretty impressed with what you did.
It reminds me of Wacky Wheels. The sound effects are very good. Too bad my competitors would outrun me very quickly and I didn't see them again.

Maybe if the penalty of going of the track would be less harsh?

pietro-ferrantelli 2015-04-27 16:32

INCREDIBLE 48-hour solo work ! Didn't know it was possible to do so much in that time. Really, great game overall !

refreshcreations 2015-04-27 22:52

Hey, thanks for the comments again, I'm adding more features for a post Ludum dare version which I'll post on my Twitter @refreshcreation

I've been planning more weapons and characters to boot, although, post the mania that is Ludum dare, development is now at a much more sedate pace :)

rfgpfeiffer 2015-04-30 11:40

This game is totally unplayable to me. It does not crash, but the camera looks up at the racetrack from under the ground for some reason. It starts out behind my character and then it drops down on "Go" and I can't play.

refreshcreations 2015-04-30 15:48

That's interesting, which build were you running? I've not been able to produce that bug in either web player or windows versions over here.

rfgpfeiffer 2015-05-01 18:04

Oh the bug happened on Ubuntu. I will ask a team member to review the web player version. --bob
