LD44 — Your life is currency

Life Business by jk5000 2019-05-13T21:03:34Z

Very solid puzzle, survived 15 weeks in my first try. Houses that are supplied with all the three needs could have an indication and may give bonus. After week 10 I noticed that my resources started going on the minus, but could not do anything to prevent it, most likely because of poor play. Will try again with a better strategy in mind..:) Very well done!

Points: 145. Nice job on the random level generation and coloring. Single step on key-press works with rogue-likes but here with the time counter and the find keys-unlock doors stretch mechanic isn't the best combination. But hey - you have an awesome base engine for a rogue-like now, go create one with battles and AI :)

Daybreak Inn by Joror 2019-05-11T23:52:04Z

Defeated the Lich with a party that had 10 wisdom, strength and stealth 9 and magic only 2 - I thought I had to develop another party to be able to beat the magic stat of the lich in a separate quest. Very interesting concept, nice graphics and music, wonderful atmosphere - it was really fun, cheers!

shoot out your life by puppetmaster 2019-05-16T14:37:38Z

Awesome game, really liked the simplicity. Great mechanic with the charging and the option to catch your life back if you miss. The guide lines and the nine total positions were cool as I was able to not look at my "ship" at all and only watch for the upcoming "enemies": 2 times left, shot, 3 times right, charge, etc. Great entry!

Long live 8-bit games! Superb job on creating one! I sometimes dream being 40 years back in time and creating games for Commodore 64 or Apple ][.. still the games from that time are great inspiration. If you want to save some more cats try my game Filimonchi, inspired by Defenders. Cheers!

Amazing game! Me and my girlfriend we are addicted to it now :D Here is our latest game, we alternated to make turns and were competing between ourselves, hence the good score :) Congratulations on the great idea, implementation, art and mood! scrn_1.jpg scrn_2.jpg

Ps. Here we surely had quite some luck: Screenshot_20190524_152433_com.JosiaAndTimo.CarlCurrency.jpg

Filimonchi by foumart 2019-05-14T17:39:15Z

Thank you for playing my game, the feedback and for the kind words everyone!

Yes, the game is a tribute to my fluffy friend who passed away while I wasn't at home - could not say goodbye. I was in Sweden in the gamedev community Spelkollektivet. We had level design workshop and a gamejam on site, and it was awesome. Here are some great games created by other jammers you should try: [Carl Currency - Expert Exchanger](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/44/carl-currency-expert-exchanger), [24 hours](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/44/24-hours) and [The Circle](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/44/$147168)

@webox - you're right - the game is not connected to theme - I had the idea to relate with the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: before destroying Earth Vogons decided to capture all Cats as they thought cats may become handy later in dealing with Mices. The theme was supposed to revolve around trading own spaceships and other stuff for captured cats with some venal Vogons.

@conk - sorry to hear that, but we can only be glad for having such lovely and playful companions, even for a limited time.

@f1krazy - hey, I contacted Mike and he was kind enough to set my game for the Compo.

@goerp yeah, *H*LL is definitely cute! x)

@dining-philosopher, @tommyflower, @cheesepencil, @yojammerjammer and @tamail - thanks! I will consider improving the controls in my entry as it was mentioned by most of you, also will browse through your games in a bit while..

Life Merchant by Webox 2019-05-13T22:49:24Z

This game is quite enjoyable and fun, has amazing graphics, tranquil pleasant music, and some well put puzzles. The sokoban mechanics works really well with the tactical rpg-like gameplay. I hope you will continue working on the game and create some more challenging puzzles - maybe the main protagonist will be able to buy sell stuff only a limited number of times in the later levels, so you will have to think carefully what to move/attack/open first. (buy for +30, sell for -25 etc.) Really well done!

Big Tiddy Goth Girlfriend: A Tale of Romance by yojammerjammer 2019-05-15T01:00:37Z

Sexy game :) Nice pick of the theme.. will have to try harder with a Succubus like this one though 😈

Slave Odyssey by yopox 2019-05-16T10:50:40Z

Very nice Shmup with cool story, some explosions and sound effects would be awesome. The music was superb! I had hard time distinguishing the enemy missiles from the background particles (stars). Maybe try to make the stars in blue color. A bit wider spaceships would have helped as I sometimes was loosing the position on my own spaceship, maybe because the blinking while hit was in a too slow interval. Good job!

BloodKeep by Mads 2019-05-12T18:33:36Z

Had a lot of fun waylaying cops around the corner to take care of, then running in the other part of the town and stroll like an ordinary dude just to surprise again a lone cop in the dark :D hahah 377 points best

I D E N T I F T Y by Psychedelia 2019-05-15T00:02:53Z

This game was so interesting and so well written, I liked every sentence and silhouette.. thought I didn't get it the first time, as I was not paying that much attention on all the details and I didn't knew what to expect. But after re-reading everything got to place :) Very well executed!

Mosquito Hunter by mharring 2019-05-16T14:06:00Z

Very cool game, nice visuals and sound, enjoyable mechanics, interesting theme adaptation (most of the games don't work well with "spend your life for something" but here it's top notch) I had troubles pressing two keys at once for the diagonal shot, also it was a bit frustrating to see my tongue passing through the mosquitoes without catching them.

The game halted for me at some point and I made a screenshot to help with debugging (i was spamming the tongue keys): tongue.jpg

Collecting Really Nice Cats! by cheesepencil 2019-05-15T22:58:08Z

Had a lot of fun with this game :) Found a strategy to go to the edge and spam the Shift key while running towards the trailer.. Gertrude was quite skillful in throwing all the cats. At some point my Win OS started warning me about Sticky Keys, so I went to disable that at Settings/Keyboard/Allow the shortcut key to start Sticky Keys - turned it off. Really liked the sounds and especially the different variations of Meow :)

Hide’n’run by Fractal 2019-05-16T10:09:45Z

Nice concept but I found it quite difficult to master the shift key controls - I always placed a block in the direction I wanted to run after I had stuck enemies in a corridor. if I could remove/pick a block with the same technique it would be awesome. As of now I can screw a 5 minute maze building on level 5 with just one block misplace. The game is cool - I can see it, just some minor corrections are needed to make it a lot more enjoyable. Also at first the second level looked like one must block himself in order to win, but it was like the previous one - a stall level, a bit counter intuitive for people that have used to learn new game mechanic each stage.
