Heh, I didn't know how to publish properly so made a comment by mistake

A c64 game during a game jam??? I'm super impressed :D It's really really responsive too. Kudos!!

le-slo 2019-05-04 18:48

Hey, the fact that this game is originally planned for C64 is the best! The only problem is that is pretty easy to win, you can just let your character move around and it will possibly survive the occasional bullet. I liked the idea of the shop where you decide how many shields and bullets you want. Nice work!

@christina-antoinette-neofotistou, @le-slo Thank you. There were moments I really doubted the wisdom of making a Commodore64 game, and the game certainly isn't (yet) what I had in mind. But I'm glad I did it. Will certainly work on it after the compo. By-the-way: both your games look interesting, will try them tomorrow.

never doubt yourself when doing unwise things!

I couldn't think of an idea, but I'm glad there's a C64 game in this jam. 🥰

goerp 2019-05-05 11:04

@hamrathdoesldjam: Thanks, I had trouble finding an idea as well. I have seen quite a few nice ideas, but no WOW moments yet, I think most people struggled with the theme. The idea of using a cat only came in day two, and then things started to fall into place, at least idea-wise. Game wise I struggled a lot getting something working. A lot of things were put in in the last two hours I worked on it. I knew making a C64 game would be difficult, but it was the only idea I had I liked :)

Sorry you didn't get any inspiration, but thanks a lot for stimulating me to do a C64 game. It's not good, but it is something I like to work on some more.

Props for making a C64 game in a jam, that's super impressive!

soggybreadhands 2019-05-05 21:35

I really liked the visuals and old school look of the game, fantastic, also thanks for playing mine! Good Job

goerp 2019-05-06 18:44

@soggybreadhands haha, it's hard NOT to have a retro look with a Commodore 64 game! Thanks

luckydaisy 2019-05-09 16:23

This is incredible and makes me so happy. Why fake retro when you can actually do a Commodore game. Links to repos on web version are wonderful and give me some new repos to check out.

Really cool project

potatolain 2019-05-10 02:47

Nicely done!

I'm so happy to see more retro games in this jam! I've seen a bunch of gameboy games and NES games, (and made one) but this it is the first commodore one this jam! I really liked the graphics and the music (though I know the music wasn't made explicitly for this)

Thanks for a fun entry!

Long live 8-bit games! Superb job on creating one! I sometimes dream being 40 years back in time and creating games for Commodore 64 or Apple ][.. still the games from that time are great inspiration. If you want to save some more cats try my game Filimonchi, inspired by Defenders. Cheers!

mashas 2019-05-12 22:56

Wow! This takes me back to the good old days. This is the first time I've seen a C64 game in LD. I love it! Really nailed the theme. If I knew how, this is what I wanted to have done. Thank you! C= <3

tamail 2019-05-13 09:38

I had troubles shooting, it just want't working. But I loved the overall idea, graphics and mostly the music!

trifectuh 2019-05-13 15:44

Wow, good on your for making a C64 game. This is awesome.

goerp 2019-05-13 17:35

@luckydaisy @foumart @mashas @trifectuh Thanks for all the kind remarks. I'm pleased I made a pretty much working C64 game in three days, although it's not (yet) what I want it to be.

goerp 2019-05-13 17:54

@tamail : did you play the online version on ib-goerp.nl or the online version on or c64emulator.111.de or did you play the downloaded one? And just to be sure: you did buy bullits (you prpbably did, but every helpdesk needs to ask these questions :)) Thanks for the compliments, I'll tell Roel you liked his music.

jackson-makes-games 2019-05-19 00:16

The music and art are incredible! I just couldn't figure out the controls :/
