How Mosquito Became Human by SaintHeiser 2012-08-27T17:45:00
I know I are what you eat, but I'm pretty sure that's not how evolution works... still, great game =)

Yeah, I might do some extra levels when I get the time as most of the hard stuff is done anyway. Now it's just art and object placement =)
I just noticed I forgot to put solid blocks on the barriers to the right *facepalm*
You can actually leave the level if you don't go through the gap in the concrete barriers =P
Sorry for all the broken English, it's not my first language and spell-checking was about #326 on my list of priorities.
Text speed and scene transition was a bit of a trial and error experience as it was the first time I did it, I really wanted to improve it but not a lot of time was left for nitpicking at the end.
The short time the character doesn't move when you press a key is so you can change direction without moving. It was needed as moving and aiming both use the same keys but it didn't work out all that well.
Maybe I'll release a version with some bugfixing tomorrow. Next week I'll have some time to continue this project =).
It's amazing how you managed to make such a good looking game in so little time! I tried something similar and struggled miserably. My only complains are towards the controls and character animation which could both be a little smother. Still, it's a great game!
Absolutely loved it! Just my type of game :D
I agree that the music gets annoying after a while, but it's not too bad.
The dialog and the way you introduced the theme were awesome!
"I seems like you had a good time management during the two days."
I giggled at that one xD I didn't even have time to do sound, and most of the content, the octagonal and bomb guys, the shock thing and the enemy waves, were done 3-4 hours before submition.
I wasted an awful lot of time trying to find a movement that felt natural. The old WASD relative to the screen just felt just too stiff to me. I was really trying to go for an Asteroids type thing.
I noticed that the window was too big when I played the game in a friend's tiny laptop screen Monday morning xD
Reminded me of my first LD entry xD
I have the same opinion people had with my game: I rather have a small really polished game than a big unpolished game. And this had the perfect amount of content for it's lenght.
Only thing I found slightly annoying was that you have to be perfectly aligned with the zombies to hit them, but I'm guessing that was intended to make it harder xD
You have a really good solid start for a bigger game here. Keep working on it!
Aha collisions are always a pain in the ass right? xD
The emoticon blinking was really cute.
The combat was a little strange with the bad collisions and low range, but it was fun nevertheless.
Like how you went with a text based theme with for character and level editing.
very fun game! I found myself screaming like a little girl way too often.
Only problem I found with it was that there were to many particle effects that made the game laggy at times. You could save some in the enemy trails.
Other than that it was very good! Loved the all the different enemies. The last guys who shot barriers were awesome xD
I didn't get very far in the first day so I decided to just have some fun in the second day. As I said, this is just a tech demo :p
Great game :)
The physics gave it a really nice gameplay, being able to fling asteroids around and such.
After a while the cables got all jumbled and that was a bit annoying. The WASD to move felt a little weird at first as I was always expecting the ship to move according to it's orientation.
Radio communications on the background was a nice touch :)
Would like to try it without ghost limit, 1000 fireballs a second sounds fun xD
Music is hilarious, ghoul screams get annoying after a while.
Really fun little action game :)
Characters felt too stiff and controlling the player's attacks was awkward and non-intuitive.
The mood was the game greatest pro, great story setup.
It's a good concept but I had a little trouble interacting with things.
Very nice graphics and mood. The movement was a bit frustrating and made platforming very hard. I felt like the ghost's bounding box was a bit too big and got me stuck a few times.
Cool game! Really hard too.
The controls were really it's weakspot for me. Dealing with aliens was a little fustrating. Fighting one at gun point was a death sentence.
It was a bit confusing at first to figure out what was interactable or not, but it was not a big deal.
The best feature were the graphics, especially the alien sprites (though the transparency glitched out a little sometimes)
Thanks, I'll fix it.
The sprites were nice, even if the animation lacked a little bit. The background tiles were well done but even so the background seemed a little dull. Transition tiles between terrain types make a huge improvement in disguising the "grid".
A word of advice from a fellow Java developer: Making everything from scratch is a good learning experience, and using external libraries may be bothersome. But for making games, especially when time constrained, it can be extremely useful to use a framework or an engine.
Take a look at LibGDX, it helped me a whole lot!
Great game!
Hacking enemies to do your bidding is always fun.
The time limit in the later levels makes it really challenging!
My only complains are that it's a bit hard to figure out how to play at first and that the sound gets a little annoying after a little while.
I enjoyed getting to unlock abilities/weapons. It's not something you see very often in compo entries.
Great graphics and audio.
Gameplay was a bit bland and easy, but it made up for it in story.
Neat a raycaster :D
Playing restrained by the grid was annoying but it was still really fun :)
I would have liked to have some sort of message saying I died instead of just closing the game. The first time I died I thought the game crashed xD
Very fun!
I enjoyed all the different enemy types and being able to use my minions as suicide bombers.
Graphics felt a little bland. A little lighting would have gone a long way.
Very simple game, but it works and it's a full game! :)
Nice music and mood.
As others said, the way the shadow appeared when the human turned made it a little bit too hard, specially for a tutorial level. Other than that, one or two more levels wouldn't hurt :)
The sprites looked nice but the animation could be better.
Sincerelly I didn't enjoy the gameplay very much. The controls were very twitchy, rocket jumping was very hard to do (and I had to come read the description to figure out I needed to rocket jump) and constantly having to manually reload your weapon (specially the rocket launcher) was very fustrating.
Visually it's a decent game. It's just that the gameplay needs some work.
Btw, I liked the cover! :)
Great graphics and polish!
My only complaint was that the pace was a little bit too slow.
Great graphics. The minions were adorable.
Selecting abilities was a bit annoying, specially the disable, because you had to click back and forth. Being able to use the 1-4 number keys would have been great.
Gameplay was a little lacking. Random enemies does not mean balanced enemies.
The music was great and the story was heartbreaking ; _ ;
Found this hilarious bug where the zomb.. ahem... humans just end up moonwalking to you all the time. They don't even damage you because they're turned away.
Loved the lighting.
Overall it was a very uninspired and bland game. But that didn't kept it from being very fun!
My highscore was 12340.
Loved the humor and the particle effects.
Making friends had a really satisfying feel to it.
The mechanic of throwing rocks to attract npcs was interesting.
(Glad you liked my game btw :) )
Overall it's a decent game.
The necessary grinding was a bit annoying :/
You're adding gameplay but by forcing the player to repeat the same task over and over.
The graphics were good even if a bit bland.
Interesting concept, but it could have been realized a little better.
Making the room a little darker would have improved the atmosphere greatly.
Nice strategy game :)
It probably needs some balancing but it was fun!
Btw, I don't know why you chose not to be rated on the Audio. The music was great!
That was absolutely disgusting. Great graphics though.
Great game!
The skill system and unlockable abilities were amazing!
The only thing it's missing is some animations.
Interesting concept. It made me be afraid of enemies, something that's not very common in most games. It is a bit hard to lure bigger enemies and that got me stuck a lot of times.
Just a heads up: You need to enable the Unity plugin to play the game (Chrome showed me a tiny warning)
It's a bit hard to rate a multiplayer entry without having someone to play with :/
Anyway, the concept was interesting. I've played a sound based game before. Still, it was a bit difficult to control your character because they moved so fast (I only realized this on the replay).
Careful with your english. Understanding the tutorial was a challenge on it's own :)
Decent little shooter with a very fast pace.
It had a little too many sprites on screen for my taste xp
The spin attack was nice but it felt a little under powered.
Welp, guess we're all monsters then...
Great entry for only a night's work.
Only thing it's missing is a little sound and particle effects.
It would probably work nicely on mobile.
