LD28 — You Only Get One

Patch by MarekkPie 2013-12-16T04:19:00

Hi, tried to play but it isn't working on my Windows 7 64 bit PC. The main menu displays but nothing happens when I click the Tutorial. When I click Play I get a runtime error. Here's a screenshot of it: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/209102/patch_error.jpg

Monster Interceptor by ehtd 2013-12-16T04:30:00

The best music I've heard yet this LD! Amazing and moody. Enjoyed the sine wave style weapons. Did you create it yourself?

I didn't realise you can hold the space bar down to make continuous beams until later. Has hints of the old PC space game Ascendency.

Deep Life by 01010111 2013-12-16T08:44:00

This looks like a much bigger project than can be completed in 2 or 3 days. Good visuals and detailed story. Good effort!

Curtain Call by pinkmonkeyhead 2013-12-16T06:58:00

Great presentation and mood. The facial animations where cool, the people really had personality. A laid back and fun game. Well done!

Left by MM 2013-12-15T18:54:00

Clever theme idea, only one control. It's hard but quite addictive. Cool how you can bounce off walls at small angles and the Yay! is funny. Good to see another boat/ship based game.

One Man Armies by pirate-rob 2013-12-16T06:04:00

Great use of the theme. Really like the building up of your army as you move along. Nice graphics, the forests are cool. Well done, really fun game.

Lost Robots by stromchin 2013-12-17T00:10:00

Jumping the ramp was fun and worked every time for me. Knocking trees was great, I tried to get them to flip on their heads. Add more "stuff" and it could be excellent.

ONE SHIP by glennbjr 2014-01-07T01:55:00

I like the flame effects on damaged ships. Seems quite tough but the hull damage level is a good idea. Well done!

FowL Play by Sakuyan 2013-12-20T01:11:00

Fun platformer. I like the way the chicken can shoot while moving in a different direction. The level design is bit tough but the nice control system helps (like floating on your wings). The music got a bit repetitive but overall this is a very good HTML based game.

PotatOne by HeroesGrave 2013-12-17T07:52:00

Nice game! I like the characters movement animation. Also like the theme interpretation, you only get one real potato, but plenty of fake potatoes, very funny!

One Item by Nsmurf 2013-12-16T06:48:00

Nice puzzle game. I like the theme usage/strategy to pick the right equipment item. The graphics are very well done. When I fell down the hole on level 3, I seemed to be stuck there and had to restart. Great effort!

Carry the one by goerp 2014-01-06T02:26:00

Very original and fun game. A bit hard in places, I picked up NaN and couldn't get rid of it. One of the most innovative (and educational) games this LD. Well done!

Spirit Cave by patrickgh3 2013-12-16T05:34:00

You create feelings as much as you make games. Like your previous game it makes me think of things I hardly ever do while playing a game. Great theme usage. We all only really get one other who will cast light on the dark holes so we can see them and safely jump over them to go on. The two friends reminded me of the old Head Over Heels game from the C64, Spectrum.

One Man Fire Brigade by bvanschooten 2013-12-16T06:28:00

Fun puzzler game. The fire spreads quickly which makes levels tough but the shooting water mechanic is great. I liked the fire break levels the best as they allow a bit more control over the fire. Well done!

You Only Get To Save One by PEBKAC 2014-01-06T01:48:00

I like the 3D roguelike feel of the game. The attacking felt a bit slow and I was not sure if I was actually hitting them. Still very good effort to complete this much in 48 hours.

Protecto El Dorado! by rubna 2013-12-17T11:43:00

This is a nice arcade style game. Good sound effects and cool graphical style. Having the one weapon and needing to grab it again after using was a good use of the theme. Very good.

But You Want One More by spx 2013-12-16T07:12:00

Well done 3d puzzler. The changing arrows really keep you on your toes. The rotation and movement of the board make it hard to keep your eyes things but thats the point I guess. I enjoyed playing it, thanks.

th3 r00m by SaintHeiser 2013-12-16T07:24:00

This is a really original game. I like the sense of mystery about who/what you are and why the room controls you. Graphics are also full of imagination although maybe a bit too dark to see clearly always. I'm going to come back and try to complete this game. Great game.

Space Worm by rolfeth 2013-12-16T07:07:00

Can't run on my Windows 7 64bit pc. libgcc_s_seh_1 dll could not be found.

1 Baller Resource Brick Braker by ItsSacraficed 2013-12-16T08:27:00

Good effort at a breakout style game. I like the different resource idea. I notice that you can change the direction of the ball. In a lot of breakout games you can do this by moving as the ball hits the bat or making the ball hit close to the edge of the bat.

Capitalis by deathray 2013-12-16T04:58:00

Very interesting idea. The potato people just sat on the ground not moving at all, is that expected? No more money. I guess the people need to move in to make rent money. Very good windowing system with the info boxes at the top right. Well done!

Shadow Night by ParaPup 2013-12-16T06:37:00

That's impressive for someone new to Unity. Really good mood with the background rain etc. When I first came across the black thing I thought it was a bug as i was lifted up to the ceiling and could only see parts of the things body. Great effort!

hackerStation by lotusgame 2014-01-06T02:05:00

Seems a very original idea. The 3D graphic style was very well done. The music added to the mood nicely. Was perhaps a bit too simple but overall very good.

COR by ENDESGA 2013-12-17T10:47:00

Best mood I've seen this competition. Simple but expressive graphics. Thought provoking. There is probably no more important message in life then what this game covers. You should be very proud of this.

One Sword To Escape by Gas 2013-12-16T04:41:00

Really like the humor of the writing and the "beam up" when you die. Trying to jump right next to a step is a bit hard and timing the sword attack is tricky. Well done overall, I had fun playing it.

0RBITALIS by AlanZucconi 2014-01-02T12:02:00

Nice game. The mechanic was well done although I felt that it was a little too "launch and hope" sometimes. Maybe a bit more control over the satellite would be be good. Your use of the theme is original and well done.

parallelsync by 0x0961h 2013-12-16T06:19:00

The parallel timestamp idea is interesting. Nice graphics style. At first I thought my sound card had blown up ;) but then I got used to it and I found the sounds atmospheric. Good game!

Some Day by Colorvade 2013-12-19T11:42:00

Excellent parallax scrolling backgrounds and the main character is nicely done too. I felt it was a little empty in areas but then I suppose that is exactly the point of a wasteland setting. The night/day was good too. Well done.

Series of tubes by 2kah 2014-01-07T01:51:00

If Dwarf Fortress ever changed direction towards an action game I imagine it could be just like this ;) Simple game but fun for a while. Well done!

You Only Get 1UP by Thein 2013-12-17T07:02:00

This game is amazing! The fist of God makes me laugh every time. The humor is great, but unlike many funny games the controls are really good too. The double jump is very cool! Well done!

Babelita by Kuupu 2013-12-17T11:05:00

Really like the graphical style and the 'rotating' level design. The controls have a good feel and give just the right amount of control. Some sections were quite tough so as vapgames said checkpoints would be good. But then it certainly builds tension knowing you're going back to the start if you die. Oh and that is one of the best/catchiest tunes I've heard this comp. Well done!

Airlock One by McFunkypants 2013-12-19T11:26:00

Nice puzzle game. Simple to play but with more strategy than I first expected.

One Liner by siarck 2013-12-22T14:29:00

Very well done puzzle/strategy game. Quite difficult but the graphics and sound/music are professionally done. Good use of the theme also. You have made a fun game.

Boomerang by Deity 2013-12-16T03:35:00

What a fun game! Well done! The graphic style is clean and the use of the theme very clever.

Orbit by TwitchSeventeen 2013-12-15T18:47:00

I like the setting and ideas. Good level design, I failed about one step before getting into the module! Will have to try that again.

One Sky by Kep 2013-12-19T11:51:00

Really original idea for a fun strategy game. Rotation mechanic is really well done and the graphics well suited. Excellent.

UniSwarm by ChaseC 2013-12-17T11:58:00

Nice strategic game. The flocking units where fun to watch move in large armies to attack planets. Very clean and clear graphic style.

One Wing by theholychicken 2013-12-17T08:11:00

That was a brilliant use of the theme, very thoughtful. First time I though there was no point trying to fly over the black angel so just walked into him -> black. Next time I actually tried to jump him, and did it. Is that a metaphor for something?

Only One World by j_stirk 2013-12-19T12:31:00

Really interesting idea and topical of course. I found it a bit difficult to start with but I need to play more to understand the required approach. It's good to see another strategy style game in LD. Well done!

Monad by Piat 2013-12-17T07:32:00

Enjoyed playing this a lot, but I couldn't stop the "filth" from spreading! Very original idea and impressive amount of work for just 48 hours. Maybe add some indicator to sheep that show their faith without having to hover over them individually. Well done!

You Only Have One Color by mactinite 2013-12-16T05:20:00

Had fun grabbing colors and jumping across gaps. The control feels really intuitive. Nice music and mood. Like the scarf flying behind the player. Bit tricky to quickly change color to match zombies. Well done!

Agent LD28 by Steve | tacospice 2013-12-16T07:42:00

This is a really fun little game. Watching the chain reaction caused by your one shot is really amusing. The isometric style is always cool and works really well. Excellent game!

Monogon by Rscar 2014-01-01T12:34:00

Really good puzzler. Nice graphic style. The theme usage is a great idea too. The mechanics are simple but give a lot of scope for puzzle solving, well done!

Surface Climber by korfi 2013-12-22T14:21:00

Good effort at a platform game. The control method was responsive and easy to use and the ceiling walking fun to use. The music was a bit repetitive, but overall a nice effort.

One Shot by Flatgub 2013-12-16T08:50:00

Tough game but after a few plays I got better. Graphics are well done. The music is motivating. Great effort!

Bowerbird Quest by mcapraro 2013-12-16T07:52:00

A fun memory based game. Really liked the art style. The blinking bird is a great touch. Well done!

Pivotal Point by Juno Nguyen 2013-12-19T11:58:00

Really good effort for 12 hours. Works great in chrome, very smooth scrolling. Bullets are well done. Fun!

Virtual Sniper Trials by ZXeno 2013-12-17T08:02:00

Good fun target shooting game. Reminded me a bit of that old 8bit Sentinel game from the eighties. I seemed to have more than 1.5 seconds to shoot.

Click Click Cat by GravityScore 2013-12-17T11:51:00

Great isometric style graphics. Simple gameplay but fun for a quick play. Very good job for a first LD. Well done!

Isles of Solara by ashen 2013-12-16T03:27:00

Eric, thanks it's good to hear from someone who sails for real, as I don't. I tried to make the wind work simply enough for anyone to use, it could be more realistic.

Yes I made a note for storm clouds and disasters but didn't have the time to implement it. Likewise for ship repairs, maybe in a newer version if enough people like the game.

Isles of Solara by ashen 2013-12-16T04:31:00

deathray, thanks and you're absolutely right. It's really annoying I missed that as it would have been so easy to gradually heal the ship with wood when near the settlement flag. Will add in a new version.

Isles of Solara by ashen 2013-12-16T06:41:00

Thanks for all the feedback. I think I'll make a "post compo" version and add a link from here. I'll add ship repair and some other enhancements and try to fix a few bugs.

Isles of Solara by ashen 2013-12-16T09:45:00

flatgub: Sorry to hear that, make sure you have the latest Java runtime 7 installed, it often fixes it.

Isles of Solara by ashen 2013-12-17T06:17:00

Thanks for all the positive comments, it was fun to make, but it's even better that someone actually has fun playing it!

mcapraro, All you need to is help the population get to 100 to win. They will gather resources themselves if found on the island, if not, you will need to get resources from other islands and deliver them. I'm doing an updated version with suggestions, but I don't think I should put it up here until voting is finished.

Isles of Solara by ashen 2013-12-18T23:17:00

JayPC000 and X-Or, I'm putting key shortcuts and info why you died in an updated version that I'll add a link to on this page soon.

Might be unfair for me to add a link before voting has finished though, as people will probably download and vote on the improved version, not the comp version.

Isles of Solara by ashen 2013-12-19T02:31:00

skysthelimit:
1. Sail around exploring islands and avoiding/shooting pirate ships until you find an island with some trees, deer, fields etc that will support your settlers.

2. Settle on the island and the settlers will gather what they need to grow to 100. If they are running out of a resource, you can go to other islands and collect wood and deliver it back to your settlement.

You can't directly control the settlers, just your ship. It's simplistic I know, but I didn't have time to expand it further during the comp (I will in a new version that I'll post a link to here.)

Isles of Solara by ashen 2013-12-19T08:52:00

You'll need the Java Runtime Environment version 7 installed on your computer.

Get it here: http://java.com/en/download/index.jsp

Then, once the it is installed you should be able to just double click the IslesOfSolara.Jar file and it will start.

Isles of Solara by ashen 2014-01-07T07:18:00

PEBKAC: Thanks a lot! It's great you and enough others liked it enough to give the game good votes. Your game has plenty of potential too.

Deep Sea Mining Company by loggs2 2013-12-17T07:41:00

This was fun. Nice and simple but i soon learned you need to go for the more valuable metals. The different ways you can drill (one big hole, a long shallow hole etc) also adds a bit more strategy. Very good effort!

YOGOB by sprawl 2013-12-16T08:00:00

This is a clever idea that was a bit confusing to start with but then became clearer. I like the simplicity of a Yes/No response to every event. The upcoming event text should be larger and more prominent and the stats display is also a bit small. A good fun game when you get into it.

Weapon of Choice by Benedikt Vogler 2014-01-06T02:17:00

Had fun playing this game. The flamethrower was nice and the destructible terrain from grenade blasts very good. Aiming was a bit tricky when enemies were at your feet. The random weapon selection was nicely done.

Santa Claws by skysthelimit 2013-12-17T08:35:00

Good fun running around throwing snowballs at elves. The environment was excellent, looking down on a snow covered town and forests from a mountain is great. I seemed to run for a while without any elves appearing so maybe a clearer route to follow would help. Overall a very good effort, kids would love this game!

Purpose by deepnight 2013-12-17T09:01:00

Really nice graphical style. The tree growing was great. Very playable too with some cleverly designed puzzles. I enjoyed it.

The Adventures of Yogo by Lazdo 2013-12-16T03:20:00

Great little game! The jumping mechanic is really smooth and gives you good control. The main character is nicely done and suits the rest of the game. Good music. The timer makes some of the levels hard but not too bad. I like having the melee and arrow attacks.

Blight by bsowers 2013-12-19T12:19:00

Very smooth feeling movement and fighting. Music adds greatly to a mournful mood. Nice random level generation, well done!

Golf Quest by rojo 2014-01-01T12:58:00

Wizard playing golf! Bizarre idea but it actually works and this is a fun game. Well done!

You only have one Explosion! by melwute 2014-01-06T01:41:00

Good simple game. I found it a little hard to see the squares but I suppose that is part of the game.

Thrust Issues by Gravedrinker 2013-12-17T11:34:00

Great graphic style. The controls where a bit tricky to start with but I soon made progress. No sound on my playing. I really enjoyed playing this, well done!

One Spell at a Time by dopplex 2014-01-01T12:51:00

Good first effort at LD. I found the game a bit too difficult but reading some of the comments here helped. Well done!

Ghost Run by ocarina of lime 2013-12-17T06:36:00

The evil looking shadow lurking off the edge of the screen was a great effect. The eerie high pitched tone and general darkness create a really nice mood. The game window started tiny on my 1920x1200 screen but the resizable window is great. Took me a short while to work out which key was the action key (shift on my Windows 7 pc). Well done.

The TORPEDO by windwalkerranger 2013-12-16T12:20:00

The programming aspect of this is fun. I couldn't work out how to remove a command once added. Nice game overall.

Shades of One by tommakesgames 2013-12-17T08:49:00

This is a fun game! I love the 'pawn on a unicycle' player character. The physics were well done and made jumps just the right level of difficulty. The in game comments were clever but also accurate.

Lumen by Nelien 2013-12-21T15:03:00

Great atmosphere created through excellent lighting and sound effects. It's also very fun to play thanks to responsive controls and a nice use of the theme. One of the best games I've tried this LD, well done!

Rainbbow Man by Eric 2013-12-16T04:48:00

Congrats for finishing your first game, well done! I tried a few times but with all the platforms moving to the right I couldn't see how to actually get to the cake. As soon as I started moving everything slowed down but so did rainbow man. Maybe I'm missing something important?

System Control by conormn 2013-12-16T05:04:00

Great presentation, humor and music! Pretty hard to multi task the support machines, but clever idea.

Notchified Cat by Team Techno 2013-12-17T11:17:00

Found it impossible until I accidently pressed the jump button twice and double jumped. Maybe you could mention this in your notes?
"Welcome to notchified cat" got a bit annoying after the 30th time so I made another mini game to see how quickly I could press r to replay. Not a bad platformer overall.

Yogo Grenade by jongtao 2013-12-17T07:10:00

Cool funny game. I like the main character style and the rapid firing. The bunnies were a bit small on my screen, so I thought they were feathers or something. Including a level editor is always great. Works well on Windows 7.

MonoRoll by SoumyaXeored 2013-12-16T05:10:00

Good 3d puzzle game. I enjoyed the rolling mechanic and the help text as part of the game is a nice idea. The lower walls looked a bit too much like high walls and maybe we should be able to roll along walls for a while instead of dying. Well done! (My game also uses procedural generation)

ONE.Platformer by Bogden 2013-12-16T04:13:00

Well done, great for a first timer (me too!). Works great in chrome. You should be proud of it!

The Radar Guy by pavelzuk 2013-12-17T06:48:00

Clever idea and good use of the theme. The music and graphics create a nice atmosphere.

Seedscape by hyouko 2013-12-19T12:05:00

Original idea. It's not clear how to move to the next stage in puzzle mode. Is there some score required? Interesting game though.

Only One Chance by johnfn 2013-12-18T10:55:00

A fun platformer with an excellent take on the theme. The music created a really nice mood and the graphics were well done.

Unojo's One Button Adventure by Bezza 2013-12-16T03:47:00

Had fun playing this. I like how it tells you the controls as you go along and it's impressive how much control you give out of one key.
When I got to the place in your main screenshot I couldn't get up the wall and ended going back to the left again. Well done!

Impressive Dog by EricTheCoolDude 2014-01-01T12:22:00

Clever use of the theme and fun gameplay. My niece would absolutely love this game!

You Only Get Juan by doitle 2013-12-16T08:19:00

Ahhh the irony! Why did you even submit this? I wasted almost 10 minutes downloading and then trying to work out what is wrong with the game. Not cool.

Last Minute Christmas Chopping by Notch 2013-12-15T18:24:00

What a fun game, excellent presentation! For some reason my arrow keys didn't show instructions the first time I played so I didn't know what I was doing. Next time they did, and got the idea.

Really like the lighting effects, getting darker as you go and the torch lighting at the end. Nice and smooth too, Chrome only at 9% on my desktop PC. Straightforward use of the actual theme, but the snowy Christmas theme is really great.

Jump Chip by arkeus 2013-12-16T08:33:00

The simultaneous control takes a little getting used to but then it's great. Really like the bouncing of each other mechanic. Great game very well done.

Polytonia Music by Robinerd 2013-12-16T06:10:00

Very clever and tailor made for a mobile/tablet version. When the accompanying music starts it gets really addictive and relaxing. Excellent.

Code Tower by madmaw 2014-01-01T12:44:00

This is a really original idea and use of the theme. I've used RPN on a HP calculator previously so the mechanics were fun from the start. Well done!

Fish Go Blub by Dry Tree 2014-01-01T13:08:00

Enjoyed the one control mechanic once I got the hang of it. The water graphics were well done, are they voronoi patterns? Good game overall.

Monocraft by MaTX 2013-12-19T11:33:00

Very interesting idea, a bit like that "10 second" turn rpg in the last LD. I was assigned a dark water block but I could not place it anywhere. Tried placing on existing blocks, separated by itself but no luck. Has the game been locked or something?

One Path by postmodestie 2014-01-06T01:55:00

Probably the most "interesting" sound effects for a game this compo. Platforming controls were a bit awkward in places but the multiple choice questions added a lot of originality.

UNDERDEEP by GeorgeBroussard 2013-12-22T14:08:00

Very impressive game for 48 hours. I love the enemy graphics and the destructible walls. I really should try making a raycaster one day, but some of the math looks a bit funky to do in 2 days. Reminds me of Prelude of the Chambered but with a faster pace and more action game feel. Well done!
