that was more interesting and enjoyable than i expected.

split82 2012-08-27 02:20

Interesting.

maximschoemaker 2012-08-27 02:28

Not much of a game, but pretty interesting tech :3

k1net1k 2012-08-27 02:31

Really cool take on the evolution idea, and nice groovy music

milo 2012-08-27 02:34

Very cool, but the game aspect of it seemed to boil down to "choose the biggest number", although there wasn't an explicit goal.

Also, I would've liked it to go a little faster; I'm willing to sacrifice scientific accuracy for bigger trees.

lucasncv 2012-08-27 02:37

Really interesting!

jozanovic 2012-08-27 02:38

Very creative. Maybe a goal would have been nice.

sestren 2012-08-27 02:40

Waiting for the trees to propagate toward the end was a little tedious, but overall, a good execution of the theme, and nice music.

firehawksoftware 2012-08-27 02:48

Be sure to mess with "creative" its more like a debug mode (also in creative it turns off the grow time). Thanks for all the feedback. Goal wise I wasn't really going for a goal or win condition. Just mess around and see what crazy stuff you can make. Thanks for playing.

rynti 2012-08-27 03:27

I don't know why, but I played this longer than an hour, got one tree with 32/32 and another one with 22/0, and I'm proud of them ;P

zathalos 2012-08-27 03:35

Interesting idea. I wish it was more fun to play. The "gameplay" gets boring after a few minutes but the tech is cool.

vigrid 2012-08-28 01:03

What is the goal of this game? There are achievements I can see, but there is no indication of the actual goal. It's more a tool than a game, I think...?

rawbits 2012-08-28 11:02

Sorry, I wanted to try the game but Unity crashes and kill Win7 always so I will not install it.

buttercupsaiyan 2012-08-28 22:48

This is really relaxing, a great Zen game!

reverso13 2012-08-29 10:15

Nicely done!

pixelbear 2012-08-29 10:36

Somehow I got strangely addicted to growing those trees. Good job!

firehawksoftware 2012-08-29 15:14

I guess the trees evolved to be addicting. Maybe they are related to Eucalypt trees.

spelchan 2012-08-29 17:30

While this barely qualifies as a game, it is exceedingly fun and I could easily see myself spending way too much time evolving trees.

zkenshin 2012-08-29 17:43

Really liked the tech, kept going for a little longer than I had planned just wanting to see how my trees turned out. :)

raroadkill 2012-08-29 23:03

Interesting game. I got some fairly tall trees. Would like to see more added to this

foxor 2012-08-29 23:22

I like it, genetic algorithms for growing trees. Not really a game, but a good toy

thewiseguy99 2012-08-30 00:06

I really liked the strategy mechanic a bit random but that was what you were aiming for so good job. Very relaxing with the smooth music and complementing coloured graphics..

Would be awesome for you to continue on the strategy feel as well as add some events that could slow/speed up the progression.

Side note, liked your other games. Iso Ball I didn't do too well at but it was cool & I made it to the end in Timmy the Turtle.

ragzouken 2012-08-30 11:46

Interesting, but it takes a long time for the tree to change significantly (just like real life :p)

firehawksoftware 2012-08-30 15:03

@thewiseguy99 thanks for trying my other games. Iso Ball is a game concept I tinkered with from a mechanic I was going to work into goo ball madness. I intend to go back and revisit the concept into a bigger game (it was just a 1 day protoype, I did have it running on an iPhone as well but never released), if I don't revisit its only because I don't get to it, always have other ideas. Timmy the Turtle was for a small comp on tigsource forums (1 week).

To everyone that spoke to wanting more from this, thanks! I had a lot of ideas for this but ended up trimming down the scope until it covered the core concept. I had a lot more typed here, but I don't want to post a wall of text, perhaps I should write a post mortem and drop a link instead (it will be on my site's main page).

aceria 2012-08-30 21:39

Didn't find it all that fun, but it was very interesting. Great interpretation of the theme and the tech looks pretty interesting.
Never thought that watching a tree grow could be this captivating.

rawbits 2012-09-02 17:52

There should be a goal to achive or something suprising because in this state this is not a game just a plain algorithm showoff with nice music.

The algorithm seems to be working fine you have done a nice job on that. Maybe if these plants were cannabis instead of trees it would be more interesting to some... :)

josriley 2012-09-07 05:25

Very cool and calming. Not really an active type game, really sort of mindless, but in a good way.

goerp 2012-09-13 20:02

In the beginning I was only focussing on the numbers, but it looks like you can select for shape as well.
I like how it looks and sounds. Mayeb add some more variables later?
