LD32 — An Unconventional Weapon

AquaphobiCats by Elemental Zeal Games Studios 2015-04-22T02:42:00

Nice game! The lava graphics are beautiful! The water spray is hard for me to see in context of all the other colors, it feels too subtle. I jumped off the screen to the left and couldn't get back. In the web version, whenever I tried to spray a cat, the frame rate collapsed, and then I died.

Blink Gun by Split82 2015-04-22T00:39:00

This is amazing! The graphics are clean and effective, the music sets the right mood, the puzzles are just enough at each stage to push your thinking. Great work!

Cat by Thijs Tak 2015-04-22T05:53:00

Nice work! I liked the gradual expansion of your powers in the game. The text was helpful, but I found it hard to read with it centered on the screen, maybe left-justified would look better?

Hugline Miami by Figglewatts 2015-04-21T04:01:00

Excellent graphics and shaders! The heart gun was effective, but I was hoping for a hug sprite animation based on the title.

Get Off My Land by GarethIW 2015-04-21T03:41:00

The screenshots look great! I was unable to run your game, it loaded the Day 01 screen, then crashed on me. I was running the web version in Firefox, and received the message "The content was stopped because a fatal content error has been detected."

A Knight and A Line by Squeka 2015-04-21T03:37:00

I had not played a game in a pdf before, nice way to tell a story without requiring a game engine and have it playable by almost anyone. I like the moustachize option. There were a few typos "Play Death" and "too" once when it should say "to".

Lack Of Light by drkrunk 2015-04-21T03:52:00

Awesome graphics and procedural dungeons! I did not survive very long at all in any of my attempts, most of the time Iw as attacked by 4-10 monsters in the first second. Maybe you could have the difficulty ramp up as the game progresses?

Beacons by Xanjos 2015-04-23T18:21:00

This is a great demo of herding mechanics, did you use steering behaviors? I found it really hard to herd with just one of me, I think I only scored randomly and not through any effort of my own. The beacon was a nice touch to distract, the lighting of the yellow goal point was very nice!

With The Lemons by Alucard Jay 2015-04-22T05:58:00

Good use of the standard meshes in Unity, with the textures they are quite passable. Nice swarming effect of your enemies.

Space Boy by Hyoga-3D 2015-04-22T03:13:00

Excellent graphics, and innovative world space! I wasn't sure about it at first, but I got used to and appreciated the ability to fire in any direction, especially when using multiple buttons at once. The music seemed a bit intense for the setting.

Blackboard Wars by KedumeBits 2015-04-22T02:58:00

I like the background audio, and your menu system is very clean. I felt like there should have been a penalty on the amount of chalk you have when you fire, I fired all the time with no consequences that I could see.

Liquid Cryogenics by gamedevBear 2015-04-22T03:24:00

You have the elements of a good game here. The tension is real when the orange rectangles get closer and closer. It looks weird to see the purple arc under ground while the charge is very low. It would help to have the controls on a help screen within the game, and to have a pause before immediately resetting the game for another round, I never got a chance to read my score before it was reset to 0. The graphics could use some work, and the GUI font could be upgraded beyond the basic Ariel included in Unity.

Echoes of the Forest by Midnight Creators 2015-04-22T03:41:00

Beautiful game, engaging theme. I had trouble with the movement, I expected keyboard input instead of clicking on the screen. It was hard to plan my clicks, I was trying to read the story at the same time as playing, and often missed clicking at an intersection only to send Red going off in an unexpected direction.

Venari by Lissar 2015-04-21T04:24:00

Great graphics! I liked the visual cues that you were at a cliff's edge. They set the mood well. Wandered around for a bit, but didn't get a good sense of what I should be doing when I interact with objects.

Holy Sheeit by SuperSquareBoy 2015-04-22T02:19:00

As a new parent I can relate to this game. :) The vector graphics help abstract away the scatological content nicely. It is a bit too simple, though, I didn't feel any great tension or need to play more than once.

Escape the Maze by skeliton112 2015-04-22T02:26:00

I found it hard to get used to using WASD, since W wasn't really up, but in the direction of the mouse. I ended up just using W and moving the mouse. I got negative hit points, was I supposed to die at 0? The sprite art looks very nice. One time when I played, I didn't get a maze, just a straight line with no monsters around.

Natural Weapon by Manou 2015-04-22T05:42:00

Great parallax and use of focus on your scene! Hope you get a chance to work on this sometime later, you have a cool kernel of an idea.

Home Defence by ZQMony 2015-04-22T04:07:00

Great music! Nice levels with good progression in difficulty. The menu system was very clean, but centered text in the About section was hard to read. Not sure why I could walk across some carpet and not others.

Gravity Blade by Double Zero One Zero 2015-04-22T02:35:00

Nice. Felt like a twits on Daleks, was able to get up to 17 one round. Would have liked a bit more time to revel in my score before restarting the next round.

Uprooted - a carrot simulator by Two Scoop Games 2015-04-22T06:16:00

Great sprite animation! Could use some more explanation of the keymaping, it took a while to realize I could hold down the forward to leap further, and I could control where I stop leaping with the down arrow.

Sheep by Cstudios 2015-04-21T19:29:00

Good idea for a game with programmed moves! The UI with all the stripes was hard for me to process, it felt too busy. The way you constructed your program felt hard to use, and I wish it would retain my prior program when I lost so I could make small tweaks instead of trying to recreate what I had from scratch every time.

PALBOT by Hot Box Games 2015-04-21T19:09:00

Great graphics and tutorial setup! I felt prepared to take on the game once I got through the tutorial. Good simple AI for the follow script. Would fit better with the theme had it been Companion instead of Unconventional Weapon, but it still fits :) It definitely felt different to have a character you control and move, but then fire from some other location. I found myself running around and avoid the enemy fire while I also had to work with PALBOT to defeat the enemies. Good work!

Slug Fest by jmborden 2015-04-21T04:56:00

Glad you stretched your skills! Nice slug AI, simple and effective. I found the game very difficult to get to all the slugs, I think I managed about one before it ended each time. I also found that I was able to rotate the screen with a mouse drag.

Rollout by Tortoise 2015-04-21T19:22:00

Nice concept implementation! I spent a lot of time spinning the tire in circles, until I picked up the feel for how to keep it spinning. While the goal and sense of progress are lacking, I felt invested in getting the tire to spin and had a blast smashing things.

SHEEP MANIA by SadSmile 2015-04-21T19:37:00

Your sheep look awesome! The game felt too difficult to me, I could not move around enough to kill all the wolves in time, only got to wave 2. Should the sheep in the pen disappear when the wolves attack them? Not sure exactly why I lose, it is because too many wolves at the sheep?

The Rock the Paper and the Scissors by BIZM 2015-04-22T04:26:00

This is amazing! Perfect match for the theme, the music is integral to the gameplay, the graphics and animations are awesome, I knew intuitively what I should be doing as I played, the difficulty ramped up appropriately at each stage. I want to keep playing this game, will be adding it to my bookmarks!

Music of the Spheres by goadrich 2015-04-21T17:39:00

Thanks! I tweaked the parameters to make it just too difficult for myself, this could definitely use some refinement. To preserve harmony, you need to create chords out of major fifths and thirds, minor thirds and major sixths between the notes of the 12 tone scale. I tried to incorporate music theory about harmony, consonance and dissonance intervals.

http://www.musicawareness.com/intervals.html

The challenge then is to create a chord progression that gets to all the notes, like the circle of keys:

Music of the Spheres by goadrich 2015-04-21T19:43:00

Thanks @SadSmile and @HotBoxGames!

@goerp I think I need to tweak the way harmony is eroded, so that when dissonance starts it falls of slowly, but as the dissonance stays around, it falls faster. Right now, as soon as a new sphere appears, it starts to impact harmony, but this should be a gradual introduction. This might give you more of a chance to recover from bad tones. Spheres should also fade as they leave the space instead of stopping abruptly.

Music of the Spheres by goadrich 2015-04-21T19:51:00

@mitchellsha Thanks! The intro screen pops up again when your harmony goes to 0 and you lose. Not the best solution; I really need a clear separation between the intro and restart states of the game.

Scoria by MrTroy 2015-04-24T04:19:00

Nice implementation of a turn-based strategy game. The spinning turn indicator is cool! I think the lasers are somewhat slow and detract from the game, I feel like I want the game to move much faster than it does. It took me a while to figure out that I could trash more than one card, since the "Go" was no longer highlighted I thought I couldn't do more.

Lawyer Golf by kevinthr 2015-04-22T04:17:00

Cool concept, the conversation in the background is exactly what I expect in a game about minigolf, the actual golfing is secondary. Took a while to get going though, and I found the turning and movement of my lawyer character to be very tedious and slow, it was hard to move to the correct position to hit the ball.
