what a BEAUTIFUL narrative game! i loved permanent changes in the world between the cat's lives, it gave a strong 'every day the same dream' vibe which i ~love~. i played the game before i read the description and it only dawned on me at the lake that on my last life, there was more to accomplish in the world, which was striking!

the graphics are beautiful and the cat's perspective on a world that could be independent of it is a fantastic setting.

things on the technical side: - grid based movement would feel nicer, but this isn't a big deal :) - with concurrent text popups, the window disappearing felt like the end of the text sequence even though there was more to come - on firefox, there's a 'click' when the audio initialises. maybe since there's no sound you could disable the audio entirely? this is probably a GB Studio thing though

well done on a great game with so much content!

A very nice and short adventure game. I really liked the multiple endings and how they leave a permanent effect on your playthrough. Like what @kyavi said, there was an odd clicking sound when I was playing on Firefox but it didn't bother me too much. I did find the grid movement a bit awkward, especially since when I went outside, I didn't realise there was more to explore until I went east on the road, the route appears blocked on the pavement.

Also really liked the digitised photos on cutscenes and the title, they look great at a low resolution. Good job!

Some of the deaths were kinda silly, but I loved this game. Really nice work, and how it's running on actual hardware is great

This was a really interesting game. Nice work.

I totally want to play this, but it looks like your download links are gone?

I'm excited to see gbstudio entries starting to show up in Ludum Dare! I've made a few retro games with my own tools, but GBStudio seems like it opens up a whole bunch of new doors.

Will check back later!

This is the second GB game I seen in this LD. People seem to like to make GB games, heh. Nice game, by the way.

For some reason every time I try to re add the ludum dare link it disappears. for now, I've added the html link in the description!

EDIT: Should be fixed now! But I've kept the link in the description just incase

This is a crazy good concept and clever interpretation of the theme. Really enjoyed this, well done!

Managed to play it this time - fun little game! I liked the graphics, and think you used GBStudio pretty well. Finding all of the endings was pretty fun.

Always glad to see more retro games in the jam!

"It's getting dark." "I'm scared." Did a jam game just make me cry? Beautiful work, as always.

The poor kitty ;-;

At first I thought there would be 11 different complete endings depending on how you spend your nine lives, but there are actually 11 ways to spend your life. The old man is my favourite, I didn't expect it!

Also, I had a look at GB studio after checking another game boy entry, so I knew what the framework already provides and could appreciate the variety of the content.

I really wish there was some audio in the game. It would have also been nice if the movement was grid based, because now it was a bit clucky at times. I think I got all of the endings, finding the sword was definitely the hardest. After you give the boy his sword, the collider of the sword prevents you from walking to the area above the boy (though there is nothing there anyway). The art was very much in the gameboy style and the humor was on point.

Neat graphics, nice storylines (or maybe not NIC-nice), great atmosphere. A lot of content! I dabbled a little in Gameboy development (not during the Ludum Dare, though!) and I'm impressed you did this in one JAM. And cats are always great of course!

Such a sad and yet lovely game. I really liked it. Love the Pokemon reference.

Bruh I’m a cat please get your own sword.

Fun and cute game!

Great game! Gameboy style graphics are amazing, the story, the simply gameplay... all mix perfectly! I don't know why I can't hear the audio! Overall it's an awesome game! Congrats!!

fractal 2019-05-15 18:57

Nice game! Quite a lot of content for 72 hours, and the graphics are nice!

The clicking sound is not just a clicking sound. If you open the game with some music playing in the background (e.g. a tab with a youtube video), it changes the sound of that background music! It’s probably due to GBStudio, but I had no idea webapps could do something as radical as that…

duke 2019-05-15 18:59

Man, that game really needed some audio to ruin my good mood completely :) The gameplay was actually very basic but still, I got really invested in the cat and it's search for food and love. Things got rather grim and your writing style really left me feeling uncomfortable with all the deaths of the cat. Really well done!

Oh, the art is amazing by the way!
