Runs good even on my old G1! :)

Nice, it runs smoothly and the gameplay is pretty original

I saw this game's title and knew I had to immediately play it. Clicked it and was very disappointed to find that it's android only. Looks like a really interesting game, I would love to see a web version.

gamblore 2012-08-28 00:08

Sorry about that. I can understand that frustration.

If you really want to try it you can use the Android emulator that is in the Android SDK. http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html

This needs a little more of a guide. I'm confused as to what potion does what to my colony.

The First Rule of Ant Fight club...

dr_soda 2012-08-28 04:14

Blub blub blub.

I also feel like this game needs more in the way of instructions. You don't have the ability to make really rapid iteration cycles, and you spend a lot of time getting hammered by the other opponents.

On the other hand, this is a nice take on resource management, and having done native Android for a game in LD23 I can really appreciate the work that went into this.

Runs nicely on the Nexus 7, but you probably knew it would. :)

Dont have any Android, i'm downloading the emulator and will see later :)

A very interesting game! Innovative.
I wish I knew what I was doing (which chemicals do what). Also, the battles take rather long.
It's amazing that one can make a Android game in just 48h with those tools you used!
Ran smoothly on HTC Desire. Completed the game (without a single defeat).

gamblore 2012-08-28 16:02

kirill: Nice! Battles did feel a little long but I wasn't able to tweak the gameplay the way I needed to in the 48 hours to change that. The 8 boss scientists were randomly created at development time, as I was running out of time. So they are not that difficult. If I had more time I would have crafted the enemies manually so that some were stronger than others, and make it more of a challenge. My FlashPunk port made it just as easy to make as a Flash game.

Thanks for playing it to completion. :)

Enough people have asked so here is what the chemicals do.

Red: Attack Damage (small decrease in critical rate)
Yellow: Critical Rate (small decreases in attack damage and hp)
Green: Attack Speed this decreases time between attacks (small decreases in HP and critical rate)
Blue: Hit Points (small decrease in attack speed)

Loved it. Good for mobile.

timtipgames 2012-09-02 09:25

Runs fine on my DesireHD. Unfortunately I couldn't make out any differences between the colonies on the title screen. I played around with this for a while, but usually I ended up with wanting too much, and killed my colony with some colored liquids ;) I think the idea is really good, but the fights themselves are a bit boring. For future enhancement you should make this really large shogun style colony battles ;) Oh, and I suggest to add an QR Code as one of your screenshots so it's easier to get the game onto their device.

gamblore 2012-09-03 07:00

Yea, I didn't know how to have player interaction during a shogun-style battles (or if it was needed). I didn't have the time to think of and balance those mechanics. What I had was what I figured I could accomplish in the weekend. If I do anything after this I will look into that.

sev_inf 2012-09-04 06:09

Liked it, nice timekiller. It wil deifinetly live on my mobile for a long time. Also, I'll probably break the first rule of ant fight club ant tell friends about it:)

tcstyle 2012-09-04 19:06

Will definitely give it a try on my android phone.

gama11 2012-09-07 10:31

Cool idea, but I don't really have an idea what I'm doing when playing. There needs to be some sort of explanation what the different potions do, what the things that differentiate ant species are etc. Different-colored enemy ants would be nice.
Fight are pretty boring to watch currently. The ability to fast-forward or even skip them entirely might be the way to go.

Thanks for providing a QR-code! :)

hgcummings 2012-09-07 16:58

This has the potential to be a really addictive game: I like the mix of planning and battle phases. It would have been good to have a bit more guidance about the effects of the different coloured chemicals, and the very passive battle screen could get a bit boring (as far as I could tell, the only thing you could do was influence the order in which your ants fought, but it didn't make much difference).

robcozzens 2012-09-14 08:57

It's really cool that you made a game for Android, but it was hard to see how my actions affected the game.

kibertoad 2012-09-14 21:04

No Android, would be nice if emulator-bundled version was available.

gamblore 2012-09-15 01:42

I think there might be some legal issues with a bundle. I'll look into that for next time.

pansapiens 2012-09-15 06:12

Endearing graphics, pretty good 8-bit sound although more variation in the ant fight sound would be good. Didn't understand how actions I was taking effected gameplay (eg no clear view of genotype or phenotype). I guess that was kind of the point but it seemed too subtle and mysterious for me. Good handling of Android app lifecycle (eg sensible handling of Back button). Keen to play with the Android port of FlashPunk - seems to perform nicely.

jplur 2012-09-17 22:26

I quite liked this, played it 3 times. Purple ants FTW! Never figured out what the yellow potion did :/

gamblore 2012-09-18 02:29

@jplur Yellow potion is critical chance. Every once and a while an ant will flash white and do double damage. More yellow in the system the more it will happen. Thanks for playing.
