LD18 — Enemies as Weapons

Sonic Boom by shockedfrog 2010-08-23T06:36:00

It's seriously hard, but I like the whole idea of using the enemies sound to power the weapons. I just kept shooting the noisy enemies by mistake and end up without any power :P

The bullets move extremely slowsly (in a nice pattern though) which makes it hard to aim over longer distances cause the enemies moves. If the the bullets were faster it would be easier to aim over distance and not shoot the "good" enemies.

Nice prototype though!

Man Cannon by L 2010-08-23T05:14:00

Nice concept, very hectic and chaotic!

The controls are quite hard to master (maybe you could aim with the mouse?)

The advances way too fast. You should give people a chance to learn the game before spawning the chaotic hordes of enemies :D

Out of ammo by samel 2010-08-23T04:21:00

Please upload a Windows binary :D

Isolation by MoltenMustafa 2010-08-23T14:44:00

Some problem as Zillix. Doesn't help not to skip the intro.

AfterDark by AClockWorkLemon 2010-08-23T06:27:00

I like it and a played it a couple of times :D, but it very quickly turn into being about 4 - 3 blocks in the middle and taking blocks form the ground and put on top.

It might be fun with some big blocks/towers falling down once in a while to change the terrain completely. Otherwise it's just kind of flat and a big tower in the center.

Also you should consider making the markers for where the new blocks fall a bit more visible. Maybe a beam all the way down?

After a short while I didn't think about the falling blocks as tools, but just obstacles. I always just move blocks from the solid ground to climb on. If the cool down was longer one might have to focus more on the falling blocks. Dunno though.

LunarMind by Gobo 2010-08-23T05:23:00

A very short, but interesting quiet experience.

As for the theme you can take over the mind of a spider and use it for pulling levers or kill it, but you can't really use it as a weapon.

I like the idea and concept, but the levels are really basic and doesn't use it to the full extend. It would be awesome to create some sort of puzzle games where you had to take over the spiders and pull the right levers in order to get pass some obstacle. You have some great elements.

I <3 Tractor Beams by drakfyre 2010-08-23T06:16:00

It can't be played on anything but OS/X?

Spider Hunt by Gigacat 2010-08-25T06:47:00

Hmm.. It's impossible to get to the second platform due to collision errors :( Also you can't use your enemies as weapons. If the collision detection was working I bet it would be more fun :D

Anthill by G@briel 2010-08-23T04:09:00

I just played through the game and I must say: It's way too hard and most of the time you have no idea what you're doing or where you're going. The best part is avoiding bullets and running in circles near the towers.

The controls are quite troublesome as you can turn very fast without going to a full stop (which probably mean that you're going to be hit by a bullet). Also I often hit the walls when walking in corridors.

It seems like you've aimed for too man features (different towers and levels and should maybe have focused more on the core game play. If the controls and movement of the ant had been polished, I wouldn't miss the arrow tower or rocket laucnher (especially the arrow tower.. it killed me way too often).

Head Trauma by GreaseMonkey 2010-08-23T03:57:00

Nice implementation. I hope you create some more games using this "emulation framework".

It's a shame you didn't create a scenario where you actually had to use the enemies as weapons. As it is now it's not a very central part of the game mechanics :=)

Smores Attack by devinmoore 2010-08-23T04:19:00

I have to agree with GreaseMonkey. It's god damn hard :D

I like the simple style and I can use the enemies as weapons :D

However, I think it would be nice with some bigger purpose than just picking up enemies trying to throw them and then die.

Also I probably used more time on remembering and finding the correct keys, than I used pressing them.

Master Exploder by hcs 2010-08-23T06:51:00

At first I didn't get it and died. Then i got the idea and played through the game :D I like the idea of the first level, cause the enemy explode and clears the path if you die.

It starts pretty easy, but the puzzle and "timing" action gets harder later on. Pretty decent level design taking time in consideration.

Robots <3 Monster by timgarbos 2010-08-23T06:38:00

Haha! I thought about that too :P It wasn't on purpose, but I guess it fits the name.

Robots <3 Monster by timgarbos 2010-08-23T06:59:00

Argh! Damnit about the score. I did fix it, just introduced the bug again :P

It only happens sometimes though. It's a matter of which object that is spawned first :P

Robots <3 Monster by timgarbos 2010-08-23T18:18:00

I fixed some bugs and did some balancing and added it as a Jam version. I also included some art work that never made it to the first release :) - The name actually makes sense now!

Robots <3 Monster by timgarbos 2010-08-30T01:59:00

Thanks! Chrome has some issues if you switch tab while loading :(

I'm currently working on some more robots/obstacles and reorganizing the robot spawning in waves.

Magno-Warrior by TheLastBanana 2010-08-23T04:29:00

Great idea! I like idea of picking up the dead enemies. The controls of the ship is nice and seems polished.

My biggest problem was aiming! When I pick up the first deactivated ship and it starts shooting it feels great, but it's like it really doesn't want to shoot its friends. I can't really couldn't understand how/why the weapon rotated around the ship. It might become easier when you pick up more enemies, but it's way too hard to kill the first one.

Doors and some other stuff by Hempuli 2010-08-23T14:07:00

Aaaargh!! I give up!

Killer Knife-Robots from Knife Planet K by Jerm 2010-08-23T05:09:00

You can use the enemies weapons as weapons, but it's not like you can actually aim, it's more just random and not really something you think about. It could be nice if the only way of killing a robot was to make another robots blade hit it.

At first I thought that I couldn't touch the blades on the ground, which made the game impossible :P Maybe you could fade the color a bit.

All in all I don't really feel in control of the game. I just run randomly around for life/emp.

Nice back story though!

Double Bounce by Doches 2010-08-23T04:14:00

Awesome! I seriously enjoyed playing every level :D

In some levels where you have to hit the small ball, it's very hard to aim (with the small ball) and it gets a bit random. I like the randomness, but you get that when there's many balls anyways, so I think the small ball should have been bigger :) Also I don't clearly see the theme.

The idea of being able to move the target hole is brilliant!

I really like the simplistic graphics and atmosphere of the game.

LD21 — Escape

A Crap Game by GreaseMonkey 2011-08-23T19:50:00

I really like this and it opens up for some interesting puzzles. I didn't really get the escape key thing. You should really do something about that :)

Cut Here by timgarbos 2011-08-22T04:30:00

I will upload downloadable Windows and Mac builds tomorrow. The Windows build might work in Wine.

Cut Here by timgarbos 2011-08-22T08:13:00

Also it doesn't restart if you get stuck or jump a cliff. Press R to restart!

Cut Here by timgarbos 2011-08-23T21:58:00

Thanks, I am only using three images. The character, the gun, and the laser beam. Laser beam texture is reused for the goals because I was super lazy. Everything else is just solid colors and shaders.

I created sound effects with Bfxr and Audacity, but borrowed some background ambience sound.

Escape the Fate by Jwatt 2011-08-22T11:23:00

Didn't really get it. Got stuck in the first level. S does nothing and killing yourself did nothing. What did I miss?

Escape the Fate by Jwatt 2011-08-22T11:39:00

Yes. I got it! There are some quite nice and tricky levels later on.

LD37 — One room

Toy Tank Clash Royale by Feips 2016-12-12T19:54:00

I believe the Wii Play tank game that you mention probably in itself is a reference to the Atari Tanks (combat) or earlier similar games. Yours is not quite as responsive in the controls, but you added some new stuff as well.

With a bit more work it could turn into a decent tank game :)

Dark room by cushycode 2016-12-12T21:11:00

Not a cat person, but I did manage to find the cat :)
The controls could use some more love. The character feels a bit drunk and turns when you hit things. Maybe on purpose?

Rhythm Rink by shillingburg 2016-12-12T16:58:00

Nice direction and visuals. Would be nice to see some gameplay and a clear goal besides the score.

SuperNinja by Kazik_210 2016-12-12T20:29:00

Congratulations on making a game :)

The Ways Out by harark 2016-12-12T18:41:00

Confusing at first, but I still played all the way through. Nice little thing.

Christmas Time by Jon Reid 2016-12-12T18:31:00

Bonus points for using multiple tabs!
Would love to see you use it more... now it could sort of almost just be a button inside the game.

Room Loop by piwicode 2016-12-12T16:46:00

It works!

Notepad Hero by hadongee 2016-12-12T19:21:00

Pretty solid! Nothing new, but plays really well.

The beginning feels a bit slow after you played a few times though.

Interrogation Room by DiscoFish 2016-12-12T18:26:00

Fantastic polish.

Paper Airplane Attack by kebb 2016-12-12T17:10:00

Paper airplanes are awesome. Would have been nice with some clear feedback when you hit something. For the best tactic was to stand still on the table and shoot everything.

Quipp by ModernMan 2016-12-12T16:25:00

It's hard. Too hard. I couldn't figure how to kill the enemies for quite some time since you need to land perfectly on their head. But hey! It's a game. Wohoo.

Floor is Lava by Albert Viader 2016-12-13T21:19:00

Neat take on the floor is lava. It's the most promising lava floor game this ludum dare so far :). (There's more of them)

The Ninth Circle by zeoxo 2016-12-12T16:26:00

Pretty great for your second game ever.

One Game by rainssong 2016-12-12T20:05:00

Super simple, but I really enjoyed it. I got stuck at 34 only having money left. Lots of money.

Would be nice to play till the end of my life.

ClutterRunner by Mik3 2016-12-12T16:31:00

It's quite confusing :)

Principle of Locality by relick 2016-12-12T17:29:00

Definitely solid! Played it through and the freezing time/physics in frames creates some interesting moments.

The purple blocks seems a little overpowered though. Sometimes you can almost guide the ball all the way by grabbing the block in the right window and moving it.

Studio Castle by sgadrat 2016-12-12T19:34:00

Short cute little experience.

Pong Functions by mygameisabadjoke 2016-12-12T20:47:00

Super polished and it's always nice to see a refreshing take on Pong.

atomic-swerve by atomic_swerve 2016-12-12T20:17:00

Nice little experiment. Would love some more control. Somehow.

Polygroom by garywiss6 2016-12-12T17:20:00

It works. Some small problems with the physics. The best strategy seemed to just have the circle in front of you and run in to things, letting go for just a tiny bit to push them.

Rougue room by littleball 2016-12-12T20:32:00

Love the simplicity!

One Room Rush by cesisco 2016-12-12T19:46:00

Polished and plays well. Too hard for me though.

I never really got a hang of the gravity change :)

Roach Escape by Ithildin 2016-12-12T19:42:00

Tile programming games are nothing new, but I like the levels and ideas.

At first I didn't notice the extra black walls on the red tile. You could definitely make them a little more visible.

One Gogh by DMinsky 2016-12-12T21:13:00

So pretty! The concept isn't really that new, but the execution and visuals are amazing. Worth playing.

Floor is Lava by RedPanda 2016-12-12T16:39:00

Always a fun concept. Done many times before, but if it's fun why not. I don't see a reason for all the stress and fast rising lava. It's about finding the correct path and doing the jumps is hard enough without the lava.

TILT Service by Birke 2016-12-13T13:39:00

Hahahahahahahahahahahaha!

Broken Breakout? by timgarbos 2016-12-12T20:38:00

Oh! I had missed the "http://" in front of the Mac and source download. Sorry. It's available now.

Thanks for all the feedback. I'll definitely look into making a few more levels and putting it up on itch.io sometime.

Paper Cutter by mdzimmer 2016-12-12T20:11:00

Pretty confusing. I think I killed everything, but they keep coming back. Can I win?

The little big room by jackolondon 2016-12-13T11:00:00

I didn't manage to solve it :(

With more time it could use some better feedback on the interactions, but yay! puzzles.

A Magical Night by holgk 2016-12-12T17:56:00

Neat. It gets really hard to control once you start turning too much, but who doesn't like tiny toy airplanes :)

Machina by Drtizzle 2016-12-12T17:59:00

Keep working on it. Also just provide a download link so that those interested can check out the sound.
Could also solve the few performance issues I had.

Empty by dustyroom 2016-12-13T16:04:00

Brilliant! Love it.
I assume you know Vignettes? http://vignettesga.me/

Also please add a button/key for resetting a level. It's quite possible to get stuck if you clear things in the wrong order.

Five Star Hotel by paradxil 2016-12-12T19:30:00

Great idea, but I hope you get to add that something extra that it's missing. The best strategy for me seemed to just keep moving in the same pattern reaching all of the rooms once in a while.

Local Exhibition by kiv 2016-12-12T18:05:00

Cute little experience. I like how the top down perspective + art style makes a donut and a bottle almost identical.

Fire Night by ccglp 2016-12-12T21:09:00

Dark.

Lily's Adventure by resty 2016-12-12T18:10:00

Nice adventure, but I was stuck until I read the other comments. Please add some signs/text or something :)

Perspective by akirassasin 2016-12-12T19:35:00

Great experiment! Maybe someday it will find its way into a game :)

St. Nick's Defense by Josh H 2016-12-12T18:12:00

Tower Defenese. Nothing super new, but also not anything super broken :)

ROOM by spacedoubt 2016-12-12T19:08:00

Not sure what I just played. Not sure if I did anything right or wrong. Didn't find the poster.

Nice little thing.

PONGUY by sollinxp 2016-12-12T22:41:00

Always nice to see a new remix of some classics. Pong!

Room One by Yamzho 2016-12-12T18:23:00

Wohoo. I made it to the end with almost 5.000 and a fully upgraded room, but it wasn't enough :) Fun little thing.

Ultimate Hamster Carnage by Alpenter 2016-12-12T16:45:00

Very retro. Might be that I simply didn't make it far enough, but would be nice with some breaks between waves maybe. Right now it constantly ramps up.

Mega Mecha Control Room by rburema 2016-12-12T19:12:00

I like the idea of you jumping on the controls, but the execution could use some more time (surprise). You can keep winning by just jumping on the shooting button.

Bonus points for letting your screenshake shake individual sprites!

The Paper Ship by kirilllosev 2016-12-12T19:44:00

Pretty and nice. Even feels nice to sink :P But the gameplay is somewhat missing. Good luck with it!

Killing Room by Leeman 2016-12-12T17:52:00

Nice little rough game prototype.

FIIL Mark 37 by martincohen 2016-12-12T17:50:00

Pretty!

The Hunter by tjmolinski 2016-12-12T16:54:00

Npte to other players: You start the game on I.
I didn't read the description at first so I thought it was a maze and that maybe I was hunting something. So I was exploring the maze for a very long time before anything happened. Played again and it sort of worked, but then I was spoiled :)

Bubble Tea Cafe by urfbound 2016-12-14T10:50:00

Congratulations on your second Ludum Dare! It's a good excuse to learn something new.

You game really got that "made with unity" look, so if you decide to continue with Unity I'd recommend doing something to get rid of it. Forgot the default lighting and shaders maybe :) But hey! You made a game in a day.

IG/IRL by Aun 2016-12-12T17:46:00

Nice little concept. I get's a little repetitive over time.

Mouse House by conrad123 2016-12-12T20:01:00

Wrong web link :( itch.io says: We couldn't find your page.

Bat Cave by schizoid2k 2016-12-12T17:43:00

Very basic and simple.

SkyCorridor by acotis 2016-12-12T19:17:00

Pretty classic hard platformer. Decent execution.

Engine Room by Leon Möhring 2016-12-12T20:27:00

Neat. I really like that your bullets are quite useless in the beginning and you have to sneak. It becomes a little too much walking/sneaking back and forth to the light switch for my taste.

Magic Panic by harusame 2016-12-12T19:59:00

Neat! Polished and elegant.
It's a little slow in the beginning after I die. If you add a skip intro or something I'll play again ;)

Cubby Crypt by bigbadwofl 2016-12-12T20:52:00

Hahaha! On my first play I didn't read the instructions and just build a nice dungeon hoping I would get to play it. I didn't :(

Still It's the best Tetris like dungeon builder I played today!

Safety Room by BerneyTD 2016-12-12T18:44:00

Well executed, but not my kind of game (or maybe I just had enough of presidents..)

MAX by _beta 2016-12-12T19:26:00

I love keyboards!

I hope you get time to make some simpler and more elegant levels in the future. Right now it gets quite messy too fast :)

Jewel Defender by kd7uiy 2016-12-12T18:48:00

Neat little thing for a first Ludum Dare. Go Blender!

Tip: If you want me to play the game again (or find it) name the downloaded folder/zip something other than "Windows". I already had 6 other "Windows" folder from other Ludum Dare games ;)

Space Captive by negativice 2016-12-12T20:44:00

Nice premise. I always wanted to go to space... :)

The Room in The Ocean by zoopei 2016-12-12T17:40:00

Cool to mix mouse buttons and stepping on buttons. I didn't make it all the way to the end. If you're only 12 years old this is quite impressive!

Some minor tweaks that would make it a lot easier for me to enjoy. (can't speak for others)

- Walk speed should be 4 times as fast. It's about puzzles and buttons, not walking.
- combine the buttons a bit more before introducing new ones.
- Forget the enemy for now (or introduce him/she way later)
