Cool prototype, i wish the asteroid looked like the main character, the same kind of simple pixel-art, i mean. Fade to black when drilling is kinda distracting, covering it with some particle effects might do the trick while keeping everything seamless!

A pity that the asteroid doesn't look like the rest and that we don't actually see the drilling. Maybe an improved version would solve these?

dertraveler 2016-08-30 14:20

@cushycode @jeremyfa Yes you are right... The art styles don't fit together...
In a post-compo version (which I can't yet tell if I will have time for it) that would be one of the first things to be fixed... Since I just started out doing pixel art and the small ones already took me quite a lot of time ;)

Thanks for trying out and the feedback. Also, particle effect would be indeed the right solution for the drilling

It looks pretty cool but there is not much else to it for now. Maybe in the future you could turn this into an exploration game where you can controll the ship to fly to different asteroids (bigger than this one) and search them for alien artifacts?

Seconding the particle effect idea. The gravity effect is kinda cool. I sure you, however much effort that took, it was worth it. I hope I'm not the only one that tried to shave off enough of the asteroid to orbit it. (I wasn't able to do so, but I sure as heck tried.)

I liked the gravity effect, but drilling didn't work for me :( I was playing with the keyboard. It looks cool anyway!

dertraveler 2016-09-02 15:54

@kokiriandco You have to choose it at the ship with Enter (so it appears in the top right corner) and then you can go to a place on the asteroid and drill with Enter... Strange if that doesn't work :O

Well made game good job

mark_ffrench 2016-09-02 17:17

I don't actually mind the fact that the meteor looks a bit different, at first I thought that the meteor would be a 3D model, which could have looked pretty interesting. Gravity effect is very cool, and jumping around the planet is really unique and fun. Good work!

Feedback when it encounters something would be nice. well resolved graphics and music enhance the ambience.

robert_steiner 2016-09-02 18:07

Nice. "Gravity" was fun effect. One thing I'd add is some kind of info that "there's nothing more to do, go away" after you find transmiters :)

conrad123 2016-09-02 19:38

The music and background in this game are incredible! And the asteroid looks so realistic! I loved this. It would be nice if you could take the transmitters with you, that might be something cool to add. Nice job!

Wonderful music, run literally around the asteroid was great (a little scary at times). Loved it.

rfgpfeiffer 2016-09-05 11:54

I could not dig deeper. Only one layer deep.

terracottafrog 2016-09-05 15:07

Cool idea. The movement was awesome, but the gameplay got a little bit repetitive. Being able to switch inventory without going back to the ship would have helped with the pace. I also got stuck the first time I played, unable to dig to get at the artifact because I dug too close around it.

Great work on graphics, sound, and movement, though.

rodobodolfo 2016-09-06 07:57

The gravity was fun. I mostly just kept jumping around the asteroid like Mario Galaxy. I didn't enjoy the drilling aspect but using the scanner was fun. I can see the potential in a fun 2d space mining game.

Been wanting to implement a 2D platformer with planets and gravity for a while now. You did a good job implementing that, though I wished the rotation would be smooth and not happen at certain points; however, I'm aware that that is probably not too trivial of a task and takes quite a bit of time to implement.
I liked the UI of the inventory and the art style in general.
