Tiny World Thing by Kix 2012-04-28T05:10:00
I also had framerate problems with the web version, but from what I could play, it seemed pretty well done. Good concept to develop further!

Excellent work! The game was pretty long, and the puzzles were good. The commands could be a little shorter/more general for easier play, but it was very entertaining! Great illustrations, and thanks for the SFW mode: it came in handy!
Good overall. Pretty fun. Difficult.
An indicator for jetpack fuel would be good because it looked like it used some kind of charging mechanic whereby you can go higher if you wait longer (at least it seemed like it to me).
I think there should be more space between the player and where the dudes spawn. It feels a little cramped.
Good work overall! Carry on!
Very unique game! I'm impressed! I like how you have to learn the geography of where everybody is, but I agree labels would help.
I also really like how you have to micromanage your ships for efficiency, and overall the whole idea of Earth being tiny because of our global delivery system goes very nicely with the theme.
Music, labels, and a little graphical spiffing up will make this game even better, but it's fun as it stands! Great job!
Hmm, could not get to run on Ubuntu 12.04 with either Open JDK 6, Sun Java 6, or Oracle Java 7. Not sure what the problem is.
Excellent all around (except audio :p )! Very fun although I would shrink the collision radius of the small red-eyed dudes. As fast as they are, it's very difficult to get past them because they take up about twice as much space as it looks like.
I look forward to seeing more of your stuff!!
Ok, sorry. Actually read your initial post, downloaded Love2D and then played it. Nice work!!
Very entertaining, and I love that you have upgrades (especially turn speed because at first I was like, well this is gonna cost you some points, but then I saw upgrades and was like: 8D )
Definitely fun! Invulnerability at beginning was a good insight as well, although I still got WRECKED when the first red dudes came out.
Keep up the good work!
Cool game concept. I was a little lost as to what to do, but I liked the two different characters, and it has potential.
Keep it up!
Cool game. I like the gameplay, although it took a while to figure out that each card was switching both players' positions. The interface could be a little cleaner (i.e. more space between goal and hand and make it clearer when you're discarding. I threw away my winning card :(
Overall cool stuff. I think I want to play this with real cards.
It's a fun game, and I love the graphics and the mood. However, the controls should be a little better. I found myself getting stuck a lot because I couldn't jump properly. Raising the height of some of the blocks at jump points would help. With some tweaking on controls, could easily be four-five stars. Keep up the good work! :D
Thanks. Firefox would let me log in, but I couldn't edit this page. I've been trying to fix this since it happened. Today I tried Chrome, and it worked. *shrug*
Thank you for pointing that out! I was always running it in terminal, so I never considered what it would look like if it started up its own window and then suddenly exited. Problem solved!
If you right click and save link as on the source, you get the .py source file. I'm not sure why browsers freak out at it, but as I stated in the description browsers don't seem to like my python file. *shrug*
Actually, I see your point. Even if you download it, it's screwed. I'm looking into this. Probably will just make it a zip file and see if it fixes it.
@azurenimbus Thanks! :D
@Tom7
Yeah, I decided to have it ask you to continue mainly as a way to pause so people could have enough time to read the text. I'll come up with a better way of doing this when I update it and make it longer.
@Oye Beto - No problem! You can download it here: http://python.org/download/ for various OS.
Then, simply open a cmd prompt or terminal (depending on OS) and type "python 'directory/to/gamefile/wtflemmeout.pyc'" replacing the directory/to/gamefile with the actual path. Should work like a charm!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it! :D
I very much look forward to the next LD, and I'll also be developing a game this summer using Pygame. Four player co-op space-age platformer, but that's about all I can say for now.
Thanks everyone for playing! I look forward to doing a longer game for the next LD! Also, things I learned:
1) Python is awesome!
2) Excess prompting is annoying.
3) Gremlins like hats.
4) LD community R0X!
@asfdfdfd - No, I haven't tried py2exe, but I want to play with it some because it sounds really helpful. I'll see if I can get this game to work with it as a test.
Fun. Love the narration, and the concept is cool. What would be really neat for the future is if you took this idea and turned it into a tower defense game where you can build towers out different colored blocks and you build barricades for the jellies. Not that this game isn't awesome, just a thought for future work.
Nicely done! I like the graphics, and I especially like how you made each level a different paradigm of arcade shooter (moving up, moving sideways, and free form).
From what I could tell, playing this game is essentially like playing as Karma in LoL: you're always underpowered, your most powerful attack is hard as balls to coordinate, you're squishy, and you have an awesome time playing regardless!!!
Good stuff!
Nicely done! Definitely innovative, fits the theme well. Good graphics and mood! I'd love to see this game develop more, and I'll still be trying to get past turn 30 in the meantime.
Entertaining! +1
Thoughts:
1) A boost function would be nice because some asteroids were a little impossible to dodge at the slow speeds.
2) SPACE BACON!!!
3) Good start! Keep it up!
Awesome! That was extremely fun and well designed; I'm impressed you pulled that off in such a small amount of time.
I was upset when I maxed out on strength and speed, but I sought out the boss and did my best... and then promptly got owned.
However, excellent experience! I look forward to more games!
Found this on indieDB and HAD to play it! It was pretty cool. Short and glitchy, but fun! Also hilarious and satisfying! +1
Sorry, web link to s3.staticvoidgames.com/games/ARJ/webStart.jnlp was broken. I tried a few variations on that, but couldn't come up with anything that worked.
Nice! Well done! Keep developing!
Lol! I had fun! GJ
Awesome! The map generation is pretty sick, and the gameplay is cool although a little repetitive. Good stuff!
:D
Very nice! Loved the graphics, and the message of creativity and self-discovery was good too. Also, liked the drawing minigame as part of it.
I look forward to more games from you in the future! You're helping advance the Art. +1
Awesome! I got 97% and then died, and I liked it!
Good theme, good music, simple, effective gameplay.
Very well done!
Nicely done! I especially like that the levels are destructible and that gravity really works. Very fun!
Nice! Glad I'm not the only one who went text-based. Very fun, solid humor, and multiple endings/secret passages: awesome! I got two different endings; how many are there total?
I cannot start the web version either. Running Ubuntu 12.04 with Sun Java 1.6.0_31. No console output though. It looks like the applet initializes fine, but I simply can't click inside it to get started.
I want to play it, but the dropbox links aren't working for me. Anywhere else you've got it uploaded?
It was kind of fun. However, it was really easy once I learned that shielding made you invincible to bullets of that color. You should make the shield temporary use. I thought the dodging was great! That was a lot of fun; it just kind of didn't matter because the shield was OP. Cool concept though. Develop it more!
When I tried to run it after installing XNA, I get this nastiness:

Not sure, what to do about that one. Nothing comes up when I run it in command line either. I'll try running it on Wine next.
@onehappygiant
Cool. Thanks for the feedback! Yeah, if I had known a good way to do buttons, I do think that would be nicer; glad you liked the music! Sometimes, the reticle's lines get in the picture, but they should always be replaced, so that's weird... but I guess that adds to the chaotic element of the game, right ;)
@MyMilkedEek
Thanks for the compliments! It was hard to come up with a way to game-ify the concept, so it is very sandboxy. It doesn't co-operate with maximizing. I'll know more about LibGDX next time, but for now, scaling and performance are pretty big issues for me.
Thanks for the compliments and criticisms all!
@levelbylevel - I really want to get it on Android; it's totally a phone app kind of a thing; once I work out the performance issues (i.e. learn shaders) this will happen, but unfortunately, that will take some time. I'll make a post when I get there, though!
@kevincorrigan - Thanks. The music was very Sims Soundtrack inspired because I love listening to that music when I make things. I'm glad it worked out.
Thanks all for the compliments and suggestions. I'll be puzzling over how to gameify this because I do want to refresh the project with a better UI and better performance for Android in the future. And, as several have suggested, the beauty of a game is indeed that it has more potential than a tool to spark the imagination and create a sense of wonder.
Thanks for the compliments all! I'm glad you're having fun with it! I'm currently working on a few ideas to turn into more of a game while of course keeping and improving on the original sandbox experience. It will take some time now that I'm back in school, but it shall happen!

I'm REALLY glad you loved the music; I didn't have that much time to do it, but I felt very inspired at the time, and I think moving in the Sims soundtrack direction was a good move for me, and I'll probably start composing more pieces like that in the future. My other stuff is here:

The intended but not very obvious link to evolution is that from chaos (static) comes art (what you do with it). Even though you can only work with and through static, you can evolve these primitive materials to make art.
Fun game! I thoroughly enjoyed the music and the gameplay. I wish the default speed were a little higher, but it's enjoyable nonetheless. It took me a while to realize the window title was the HUD, but it was an awesome idea. Very clever!
I had fun. Very simple game, but great concept for future work!
Fun overall. Good concept!
I like the idea, and the music was really good. The controls, however, were unreliable for me, and before long I would be off the map, even at slow speeds. I think you just need to readjust the map size and make the controls more responsive, and you've got a fun, cool, little game.
Well done! The mouse traps were an awesome idea! Good meta-story, unique interpretation of the theme, and a fun, game overall: it makes you think :O Keep up the good work!
Fun! The poop animation was hilarious! My remarks would be to only allow one food/water/treat on screen at a time. Also, there was a small glitch where he drank phantom water.
Overall fun game, pretty good connection to theme; nice animations.
Superb audio (easily some of the best)! I just wish the game were explained better in-game (and while I like complexity; it should probably be introduced incrementally with a few sample tutorial rounds). I hope you're able to improve on the concept and make a more user friendly version; I'd like to give it a shot!
I had a lot of fun with this! Good relation to the theme, good ol' fahsioned (but with a TWIST!) bullet-hell fun. I thought the automatic sound was too high-pitched; it sounded a little screechy, but everything else was cool. Good mechanics, smooth teleporting, awesomeness!
Pretty cool. It was a fun game, and bonus points for making a board game! My recommendation would be to add a win condition if there are no moves remaining. Currently, the AI just pauses when it can't make a move, and you're forced to restart.
I had a lot of fun! The sounds were hilarious, and the gameplay was cool and different. Good job!
I liked it; it was challenging, but doable; I do wish the color change mechanic were slightly different, like maybe you use arrow keys to select which strand to change or something. Not sure. Good work though!
Extremely fun!!! Great audio, great graphics, cool gameplay. As far as improvements, I would add a multiplier that gave you more DNA the more enemies you killed in a row (with at least one leg destroying an enemy), and an instant DNA boost for killing 2 or more simultaneously. I always got a bit of a rush when I chained kills together, but it would be a lot rushier if DNA were awarded. Also this would speed up the progression, and I think the evolution is a little slow. All in all, though, amazing game! You sure you did this in 48 hours?
Pretty good stuff. I was able to play fine, and I thought the premise was really unique, although not 100% relevant to the theme. It seemed to fit the theme of "censorship" better, but it was refreshing to play a game about a real issue. Good work!
Pretty entertaining, sometimes steamy, and funny. Not much to do with evolution, but good stop-motion nonetheless! Also, bonus points for making use of Zombies!!! figurines.
It was fun! I also had some performance issues, but no big deal; it's only js after all. As for improvement ideas I would say: The music is good! Use it more; the game needed more sound in it. Also, I would make the AI more aggressive because it seemed like they moved somewhat randomly.
I'm also impressed you did this in 48h; great job! It's a heck of a great base to make an awesome, really different online game out of. I would definitely keep working on it (and if I knew JS, I'd probably offer to help, but alas, I don't know much past the basics).
Hilarious, chaotic, and absolutely inscrutable. +1 p_o
Absolutely excellent! When I played this I thought for sure it was a jam entry because of the graphics and audio quality. It reminded me so much of Spore cell stage running around and eating yummy smaller things and eventually getting large enough to eat things that could destroy you early on. Very fun!
