Would you please upload the files to some place that doesn't require creating an account to download? Thank you.

sfernald 2010-08-23 00:30

when I click the links it says 'documents not available'.

Download is broken. Let me know if you fix it so I can test this out ([email protected]).

Sorry about that, I've changed the sharing permissions so that it should be accessible without creating an account now.

Hopefully I can sort out my the PHP file upload size limit on my hosting account soon so that I can do away with using Google docs completely...

mwest 2010-08-23 05:38

Ok, sorted out my hosting - everything is now direct links... so you should be able to access it now!

This warms my heart with how much it reminded me of Wolfenstein. And usage of zombie rainbows is a nice touch, but it just doesn't seem to be that close to the theme from what I saw.

danik 2010-08-23 14:45

How do I explode the red haired zombies? I tried every key on my keyboard.

McFunkypants 2010-08-23 19:39

Double ZOMBIE Rainbow for the wiiiiin! You gotta love the joke theme here - thanks for incorporating my silly bit of photoshopping into the game. I'm giving you a few free bonus points just for having fun with the non-theme. Well done! Rainbow ray!!!

mwest 2010-08-23 22:08

Thanks Breakdance McFunkypants - glad you enjoyed it!!

@Danik - you use the SPACE BAR, but you have to hold it in for a second or two... maybe I should document that better or give better cues (audio as well instead of just visual).

mwest 2010-08-24 03:07

Just added a Java Web Start release of the game, which I've tested to confirm that it work on Windows & Linux :).

danik 2010-08-24 05:44

@mwest Ah, I didn't hold it for long enough. Yea, defenitely give better clues. Maybe you could make the zombie start shaking earlier.

thelastbanana 2010-08-24 15:31

Glad the download is up now. The game was quite fun! At first it was a little annoying that you only have one life bar through the whole game, but now that I see how long it is, I think that was actually a pretty good decision. The graphics were obviously not award-winning, but they worked, and so long as I could tell the difference between the zombie types (which I could), it's fine. The title screen image of double rainbow zombies is hilarious, although I have to wonder if you have rights to that image.

I liked this game, I think you could make it into a good puzzle game. Well done with the tutorial and progressive progression (or whatever); the only problem I had was finding how to make zombies do their thing (press space for a long time, which isn't documented).

Oh and I first downloaded the linux package but I couldn't run the .jar, so I used the web start thing which worked very well.

Not being a fan of the DoubleRainbowZombie theme, I had low expectations for this game. However, it had a solid mechanic that fitted the EAW theme nicely.

I didn't get all the way through. When I got to the hoards of zombies, I knew what I had to do, but I just made a basic mistake and ended up dying. So I'm not a fan of the life system (as an LD game, it probably works well if you weren't trying to play 20 of these in an evening).

Well done for getting a complete game out, with artwork that's not 'fake pixel' or 'retro vector'. (Even if it it's never going to win any awards, I appreciate it).

mwest 2010-08-27 14:47

Thanks to everybody for the positive feedback! I really wasn't expecting it so I'm very pleasantly surprised (to the point where I'm considering maybe doing a post-compo version once I have time)...

@TheLastBanana - I guess I don't really have rights to that image beyond perhaps fair-use in parodying the joke theme... To be fair, I should've done my own rendering of Double Rainbow Zombie so sorry, my mistake.

pekuja 2010-08-31 19:30

Nice double theme slam. Well, the game was a bit short and didn't really have any interesting puzzles, but the mechanics seem pretty good.

The sound effects were a bit jarring.

Clearly not enough levels or other content.
