LD18 — Enemies as Weapons

Dr. Destruction and the Weapon that Turns Enemies into More Weapons by jplur 2010-09-06T14:21:00

After the great intro, I was rather disappointed to be faced with two minigames totally irrelevant to the compo theme!

Still I had fun with them, at least until the ball jumped out of the pinball ;) (I only saw later that there was a reset key combo)

Man Cannon by L 2010-09-06T15:23:00

Fun game, good difficulty curve (at least for the few minutes I played it.) There's probably a bit too much blinking and stuff half-erased on screen, but I'm playing under Wine so I don't know if it's normal. Also there were slowdowns so maybe I played at a slower pace than intended... The other comments seem to imply that it's a fast game. At the speed I played, it was a bit slow but still fun, and the controls were ok.

Grandfather glasses by skalle 2010-09-06T13:29:00

It's impossible to catch the rabbit. Not fun.

Loputon by pekuja 2010-08-26T06:05:00

Works very well under Wine, has keys settings, doesn't use 100% CPU to display two moving sprites like some other games, good music (though a bit short) and is even (a bit) fun.

It would be nice to have a vertical scrolling so that the hero never goes out of view. Also I'm often hit by enemies at the end of a dash, not sure if it's just my fault for jumping into a bunch of them, or if for example a one second invincibility timer after each dash would be a welcome addition.

Out of ammo by samel 2010-09-03T04:33:00

Nice! Very simple gameplay, but it's working, and it's fun (I wouldn't spend my evening playing it, but it's ok.) Thanks for the Linux binary. It works very well. A tutorial, howewer simple and badly drawn, is always nice to have, too ;).
It's too bad you haven't had time to include a few sounds.

Out of ammo by samel 2010-09-03T04:35:00

Oh, and it crashed with a Segmentation fault when I died.

Graviton by someone 2010-08-23T12:33:00

That's fun, though at first the gameplay seems a bit random... I just keep moving in order not to die, and the circles happen to crash into another by chance. But maybe there's a better way to play :).
Also the music is way too loud.

Atop Mt. Brawlalot by eli 2010-09-06T15:05:00

I don't get how this is supposed to be played... I tried to move the red thing with the mouse and LMB pressed, but nothing seemed to happen and I couldn't try for long anyway since there were one hundred other things jumping at me at the same time. So I just tried to click frantically and that seemed to make some enemies jump away... but I don't think that's the way it's supposed to be played.

Nice ingame music though. (Under Wine. I get the privilege to hear your game's sound under Wine. W00t.)

Bugger by lurreluck 2010-09-03T08:51:00

Hm, it seems ctrl does nothing at all, also not sure about the point of shooting since it only makes things more difficult!
Otherwise, it's mostly working (under Linux). I just had a problem when I jumped on a trunk and the game showed the red cross as if I had jumped in the water, but I didn't.

Graphell by ZomBuster 2010-08-23T15:45:00

First impressions:
- java freezes firefox completely for 10 seconds while loading the game :( (it does that all the time apparently, not just for your game)
- wasd is not okay with an azerty keymap :-
- big input lag

Graphell by ZomBuster 2010-08-31T23:27:00

So after patching my Linux kernel to improve interactivity (zen patchset) and writing a tiny script to switch my keymap from azerty to qwerty, I tried again :) ... and now the game is actually fun and works reasonnably well!

Obviously it would be nice to some (explosion) sounds and maybe some levels with different enemies... The graphics are simple but have a nice retro look.

Graphell by ZomBuster 2010-08-31T23:30:00

Oh, after reading the description I see there are different enemy types... I can't say it was obvious ingame. Introducing them one after the other could help.

Daremon by Fiona 2010-09-03T09:40:00

I tried running it under Arch Linux but I got this just after the resolution change (which I hate, please, never start your games in fullscreen, they usually crash and leave me unable to do anything or at least screw up the resolution, and 800x600 on a wide screen looks wrong anyway.)

OpenGL.error.GLError: GLError(
err = 1281,
description = 'invalid value',
baseOperation = glTexImage2D,
pyArgs = (
GL_TEXTURE_2D,
0,
GL_RGBA,
800,
600,
0,
GL_RGBA,
GL_UNSIGNED_BYTE,
'xc1xfexb8xffxc1xfexb8xffxc1...,
),

Not sure what the problem is, maybe the driver (Radeon 9700) doesn't like non-square non-power-of-two textures.

D3SCENT by moltanem2000 2010-08-26T05:35:00

Crashes under Wine, unfortunately.

Revenge of the Living Dead by Rafael CP 2010-08-27T14:40:00

I think it needs more zombies/humans and a faster pace to be fun (even taking into account the jam version.)

Problem with the command keys on my PC: pressing CTRL and ALT at the same time as two arrow keys doesn't always work (it's a keyboard problem, the only solution is to use other keys, AFAIK.)

The java web start version worked fine (Firefox/Linux), with sound and music.

Super Dahrai XVIII by Frimkron 2010-09-04T04:27:00

The archive lacks msvcr90.dll.

The Robots and I by PaulSB 2010-08-26T16:59:00

I too thought it was enough when the word "hack" appeared under the robot and didn't understand what to do... I think the graphics are decent, the sound a bit annoying, and the gameplay too random :) (and slow.)

Other than that, the display sometimes blinks as if it was redrawn without double buffering.

Deflector Beam by MrPhil 2010-08-26T18:00:00

I liked your food photos and motivational posters! :)

Infiltrator by ChainedLupine 2010-09-04T15:10:00

This could have been fun if the game speed was constant and not dependant on the frame rate, and thus varying between "slow" and "extremely slow". As is, it's quite difficult and annoying. I think it would be better without the music, too.

Besides these problems, this looks like a good 48 hours production.

Sporg by voxel 2010-09-03T10:41:00

« Walls are bad-ass awesome » :) This is getting you 3 stars in humour, just because I laughed. Which doesn't happen often. Thank you. Some funny messages ingame too :).

I like the graphics too (though the overlay makes them look bad, not sure what's the point of it.)

Looks like movement speed is frame-rate dependant (toggling "o" on and off while moving shows that the speed changes.) It's really slow with the overlay. It's really too slow and almost unplayable, in fact, even without the overlay (something like 10-17 fps here.)

So I'd really like to see some optimisation, a fix for the frame-rate dependant speed (use delta time!!!), and sliding against walls too. And finally where is the theme? I only saw the first 3 or 4 levels so it might be hidden somewhere later...

Recycling Defense by jakkarth 2010-09-03T04:44:00

Please don't name your zip just "ld18.zip" :)

Recycling Defense by jakkarth 2010-09-03T05:13:00

It's quite annoying to lose when the first enemy reaches the house. The first level is a bit too hard, you have to place a lot of fire-spewing things to kill the enemies. Once I did that, I didn't get a chance to use the "enemies as weapons" weapons for the next three levels because all enemies were dying by fire before reaching the new weapons.

And then I lost because I had put an ice cube on the path just in front of the saucer and that blocked the enemies and the chrono went to zero.

It was hard to understand how to play without any indication about the cost of weapons, when a click worked and when it didn't, and how the ones on the right worked.

I built it under (Arch) Linux and for some reason I'm not getting any sound, even though I get the usual "alsa underrun" messages in the console... My sound is working otherwise.

Recycling Defense by jakkarth 2010-09-03T05:19:00

PS: I'd like to see an improved version!

AfterDark by AClockWorkLemon 2010-08-24T18:00:00

I like the graphics (except the arrows) but it's too slow to be fun I think (maybe removing the teleport delay would help) and a, d and w is a poor choice of keys on an azerty keymap... It makes the game hard to play.
I played it under wine and there are slowdowns.

AfterDark by AClockWorkLemon 2010-08-24T18:03:00

PS: there is no sound, right?

AfterDark by AClockWorkLemon 2010-08-30T05:47:00

I've played the game some more and found that it goes much faster (probably twice) once I've climbed a bit and less blocks are visible... Not sure if that's intented or if it's because you expect a fixed amount of time between frames.

AfterDark by AClockWorkLemon 2010-08-30T05:53:00

PS: what I meant is: the faster pace is much better than the slow game I'm experiencing at the start, and if it's not a gameplay decision then maybe an improvement would be to use the elapsed time between two frames to compute movements and/or optimize the game by not redrawing/handling movement of all blocks but only those that are moving. Or maybe Wine and Linux open source ATI drivers just suck, which is another possibility.

AfterDark by AClockWorkLemon 2010-08-31T05:15:00

I tried the game under Windows and it’s much faster than under Linux, but also gets totally unplayable because of huge input lag. Oh well.

Chassis Commander by zorbathut 2010-08-26T04:33:00

Yay, a Linux version! Arrgh, OpenGL 2.0 required :(...

LunarMind by Gobo 2010-09-03T08:20:00

I can't run the jar or even rename it because of the dashes in the filename... Argh!

LunarMind by Gobo 2010-09-03T08:24:00

Ok, renamed it with the file browser, but then I get this error: "no gluegen-rt in java.library.path". There doesn't seem to be a "gluegen" package in Arch Linux repos...

Battle Puzzle by Dzarg 2010-08-24T18:31:00

I'd like to try this (it's on my rating list) but XNA... Meh.

ARCANE by Neonlare 2010-09-01T15:50:00

I can't shoot when going to the top-left or bottom-left directions on my keyboard. (The w+a or a+s keys prevent j from being recognised.)

The game felt a bit sluggish also (maybe because of Wine), and not being able to shoot several bullets at the same time felt so space-invadery... I had to read the comments to know that I could get dead enemies' powers, because I hadn't managed to kill a single one before. (Afterwards I managed to kill one or two.)

Interesting graphics :). I first thought the background meant something but apparently no (the hero could run at different speeds when walking on different tiles, also the bricks should stop the player/monsters.)

Also there is no progression indicator, no health? No goal... When I died the game printed the same time each time (165 seconds.) I wonder what that means.

Architector by JMNielly 2010-08-26T10:01:00

Unfortunately unplayable here due to big input lag, missed mouse clicks and unusable keys (with an azerty keymap). I'm not saying it's your fault (except for the keys!) because many other games give me input lag, but for example Robot wants puppy, which seems to use the same framework, doesn't, or at least not as much.

Architector by JMNielly 2010-09-01T13:43:00

After fixing my input lag problem and changing my keymap to qwerty, I played some more. The game is promising but I had trouble aiming, the projectiles kept hitting the ground rather than the enemies. Also like others I had trouble placing the falling blocks because I couldn't see where the original house was. It was also difficult to jump inside the house.

Architector by JMNielly 2010-09-01T13:48:00

Oh, there's double jump! I didn't know that... Oh well.

Eneapon by Tyler 2010-09-03T08:36:00

I think I've got the same problem as alistair above; I get mostly white stuff everywhere (the menu background is white, selected menu item is drawn in white on the white background, the game is in shades of white with white rectangles on the side of the screen.)

I'm running it under Arch Linux with love 0.6.2, on a Radeon Mobility 9700 with the open-source xf86-video-ati driver. For what it's worth, the small "tank you" demo that runs when I run "love-hg" by itself seems to work perfectly.

Fail-Deadly by invicticide 2010-08-25T14:13:00

Pretty good! I actually had fun playing it (under Wine.)

Stupid Squares by stqn 2010-08-30T13:01:00

Oops :( I'll see if I can reproduce the problem...

Stupid Squares by stqn 2010-08-30T14:25:00

Well, I unzipped the game on the desktop under Win XP SP2, launched ld18.exe by clicking on it, and everything worked as expected... There is no error message in the MSDOS window that opens under the game, when it closes itself?

Stupid Squares by stqn 2010-09-06T20:54:00

Ah, thanks! ... That's funny, I get the exact same behaviour (black screen instead of the purple background, and crash when selecting a map) when I run the windows binary under Wine. That doesn't make much sense to me...

I guess I'll have to add some debugging messages if I want to find what's going on.

Sun Attack by pants 2010-09-03T14:05:00

It's actually pretty good, but really hard. I managed to get one point too. The hero's animation is funny :).

PuzzaBOMB by McFunkypants 2010-09-04T17:47:00

Ok, so... :) I tried your game under Wine (Linux) and it ran at 3/4 FPS, so I couldn't really play. But the sound and gfx look very good (well, not the scenery graphics, but the rest is nice.)

If I'm really motivated (or bored), I might try it under Windows at some point...

PuzzaBOMB by McFunkypants 2010-09-06T06:41:00

I tried it under Windows and it ran at 50-60 fps... better :). I found the ball's intertia to be a bit too much. I didn't understand what triggered the bomb's explosions; for example in the "boss level" just after the speed round, I got stuck between two cylinders and there were two bombs on the other side that never exploded (which is a shame, because that would have freed me ;).)

Other than that, it was reasonnably fun, though I think the game is not challenging enough currently, maybe because the ball is immune to explosions.

Alien Abduction of Aliens by Danik 2010-08-25T10:46:00

I can see from the playthrough that it could be fun, but unfortunately it's running way too slow on my computer, and the game is just boring. Otherwise, nice graphics and decent polish! I got no sound also, for some reason. Ah, that must be because your java thing uses OSS and not ALSA I guess... Completely stopping my music player did the trick.

48 Hours Later by mikeysee 2010-08-23T12:28:00

Hmm... is the ammo supposed to fall *into* the ground and thus become impossible to pick up? I can't catch most of it because of the slow pace of the canon... My highest score is 4.

48 Hours Later by mikeysee 2010-08-23T15:36:00

Ah, I see now... First I didn't know I could jump, which helps... but anyway the canon moves at least twice slower on my computer than in your video. I think the enemies go at about the same speed though.

48 Hours Later by mikeysee 2010-08-24T07:03:00

But if you used the elapsed time between two frames to compute the canon movements, it should go at the same speed on all machines, right? (Pentium-M 1.6 GHz under Linux here.)
Anyway, for a two days game it's pretty polished. Well done.

Trust your Enemy by Spunkmeyer 2010-09-06T14:00:00

Instructions? There are a lot of counters, game objects, stuff going on that is not explained and not obvious.
I think this could be fun if I knew how to play.

EnemiesOfTheLetterB by milsom 2010-08-26T16:44:00

Nice graphics, unbearable music, one funny sound effect.

There's a problem with the framerate here under Wine, the game hardly uses any CPU time at all and it runs at 3 fps or something, so I can't comment on the gameplay. Other Unity games worked much better than this, although they were 2D...

Man And Robot by quoj 2010-08-26T07:21:00

I really like the graphics and music, too bad there's no sound! Nice polish too (title screen, animations, tutorial - even if it's a bit slow).

Works fine here in Firefox under Linux (maybe that's because I'm using a 5-year old laptop too ;)).

It would be so much better if it was keyboard-controlled and a bit faster! Mouse controls make it awkward and slow. I stopped at the second screen because I was bored.

Man And Robot by quoj 2010-08-26T07:29:00

BTW if you've not done it already, I think it's acceptable to fix your speed bug in the compo version!

@ExciteMike: you have to control the dark enemy that's at the bottom to make it open the door.

Brain In A Jar by WilTwin 2010-08-26T09:52:00

I'd rather not install anything either (under Linux/Wine here.)

Basketball girl by JDruid 2010-08-25T14:28:00

First I tried running the exe under Wine, but it crashed. After seeing GreaseMonkey's comment, I tried python bbgirl.py, which required pygame, so I installed pygame and finally I could run the game :). Nice music but unfortunately the window is too high and I can't see the bottom of the game screen. (1280x800 here, with a task bar/panel at the bottom.) So I couldn't finish the first level.

Undertone Continuum by zigs 2010-09-04T03:31:00

Unity 3D behaves strangely under Wine: it only uses 40% cpu time or so and it's jerky as hell (but it would probably be jerky even at 100%). Coupled with the fact that the mouse pointer was leaving the window, it was totally unplayable for me. That's too bad, because it looks like a very polished game. The gameplay videos look very boring though... Hmm... After watching it again, I now understand what you're doing (trying to combine colours by making the small enemies jump in front of the big ones) and why you're almost not killing anything (because almost all enemies have mixed colours.)

Maybe reducing the size of the map and making more single-coloured enemies pop (at least for a start) would help making the game more "intense" :).

The first music was ok, but the second music in the gameplay video is unbearable for me :-}.

Head Trauma by GreaseMonkey 2010-09-04T15:38:00

Music volume is seriously too high.

Head Trauma by GreaseMonkey 2010-09-04T15:53:00

It would have been nice to have some sort of checkpoint.

Robocolosseum by Toeofdoom 2010-09-06T13:44:00

I don't quite get what's going on. Some sound effects would be nice (more important than music for an action game IMO!)

'Rover', Swarm and Gun Turrets by pauloseamano 2010-09-06T08:06:00

Not bad, I like how the swarm moves, but I think the game would be more fun if everything went faster, maybe with a bit of inertia for the hero. Also perhaps some way to restore energy and/or health?

The way the tower's bullets just disappear feels strange. I was left wondering if they had hit something.

Some sound/visual effects are needed to inform the player that the hero or the towers are harmed too.

Also without reading all the instructions I had no idea what the red and blue discs were for! I thought they were part of the game objects. Just writing "Health" and "Energy" besides them would help, or maybe using rectangular gauges which are more common.

Rainbow Hero by chaotikZA 2010-08-24T19:21:00

I liked this game, I think you could make it into a good puzzle game. Well done with the tutorial and progressive progression (or whatever); the only problem I had was finding how to make zombies do their thing (press space for a long time, which isn't documented).

Oh and I first downloaded the linux package but I couldn't run the .jar, so I used the web start thing which worked very well.

Pills by Henry Blank 2010-09-03T10:22:00

Got this error at one point:
Use of "goto" to jump into a construct is deprecated at main.pl line 318.

Besides, I got it working by installing the perl-curses package on Arch Linux. I like the weirdness of it, but after playing to the end (once), I still don't quite understand who's saying what, nor where the theme comes into play. I might try once more...

dance dance dance by nyarla 2010-09-01T00:30:00

Amusing concept, but I keep dying for some reason and only went up to when there are 3 "enemy" couples on screen. From the comments I gather that there might be something different afterwards... The single life thing is annoying. Doesn't fit the theme at all.

Bug Them All! by ThibG 2010-09-03T09:31:00

I'm getting this error under Arch Linux:
./run: error while loading shared libraries: libssl.so.0.9.8: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
(got openssl 1.0.0.a)

DIE ALIEN DIE by Mr. Scruffs 2010-09-04T16:20:00

Oh, too bad, I first thought "yes, at last a good soundtrack", but it turns out you didn't make it... Putting 1 star in audio and overall because of that. Graphics are good and gameplay fun, but it's quite hard to understand how I'm supposed to guide the small enemies.

The enemy of my enemy is my heat-seeking missile by pdyxs 2010-08-26T07:42:00

I like the tutorial messages that appear at the appropriate place in game, and the no-nonsense keys that should work with any keymap :).

I'm not sure if that fits the theme very well currently. The blue robot aren't even really enemies since they don't attack you.

Unfortunately it looks like on my system (Linux) when a game takes a lot of cpu time (as yours does), it suffers from input lag, which makes the game hard to play. :-/

The enemy of my enemy is my heat-seeking missile by pdyxs 2010-09-01T13:13:00

I fixed my lag issue by patching the Linux kernel with the Zen patchset... So I played again, it was a bit more fun and I went one or two levels farther, but I can't say I understand this web of alliances thing. Not sure if I reached that part; probably not, I think I stopped at level 9. I had trouble understanding the colours or the robots in front of me by looking at my robot's face... (I'm not colour blind but it sometimes didn't make much sense to me.)

Space Recycler by Darkhogg 2010-09-04T16:32:00

Nice graphics but big input lag here (maybe not your fault) and slow turning so I didn't even get a chance to try throwing debris at the enemies.

LDSpace by Torquil 2010-09-03T09:00:00

Would be nice if the instructions mentionned which keys to use. I'm getting white rectangles for the sprites, as with the previous love game I tried, but unlike the love "tank" demo (under Linux, Radeon 9700.)

LDSpace by Torquil 2010-09-03T09:07:00

Ok, it looks like there is no other key than up/left/right? If so then the game is way too hard indeed. Some kind of health in order not to die on the first hit, and/or the ability to stop the ship, would help. Otherwise, good idea.

Weapon-E by hukacikanaka 2010-08-26T11:24:00

Crashes under Wine, unfortunately.

Master Exploder by hcs 2010-09-03T14:59:00

Well done! It's fun, well made, and although not all levels are interesting, some are actually challenging.

Now all it needs is sound and more/better levels!

Rotate by Jonneh 2010-09-04T15:35:00

As others said, the firing rate is too low, and some sound would have been nice.

On the plus side, it ran smoothly under Firefox/Linux, and moving the world to harm enemies while keeping "good" entities unharmed at the same time is a good idea that could be improved upon... not necessarily in a circle.

Would have been nice to see a word or two by the author too :).

Dastardly Shapes by philh 2010-09-03T09:24:00

Works fine, good playability, nice particles, interesting idea to keep the enemies moving once they're "dead"... But it seems quite far from the theme, and instant death is annoying. Needs some scoring and ammo count too, or something.

Glad to see another game for Linux!

Alpha Channel by Spooner 2010-09-04T07:34:00

I can't find any "chingu" package for Arch Linux, so I can't play this...

Grabman by jfarquhar 2010-09-06T07:08:00

Very interesting puzzle and nice graphics, well done! I'm too tired currently to solve it though, but I like your game. It's one of the few that seem fun to me. The instructions seemed overwhelming at first, but after trying the game and re-reading them it was ok. An ingame tutorial would some this problem I suppose.

The only annoying thing is that the bottom part of the screen blinks regularly as if it was drawn in single-buffer mode without VBL sync (I'm under Linux, and some other Flash games do that, but not all.)

It would have been nice to see a bit more community thing from you, like a timelapse for example (it doesn't cost much time to setup and it can be put together after the deadline...), desk and food photos!

AstroVax by moop 2010-09-04T16:07:00

More gameplay instructions would help.

Lolcat. by AndrewBC 2010-09-04T02:48:00

Ok then, I tried the game under Wine. It's... strange. Nice graphics, though I'm not fond of white backgrounds. Besides, same as everything that's been said before :). With more animation frames, the tiger would be great. However there's a problem with such a wide main character, when it turns it's a bit sudden (no turn-around animation), and the attack spot jumps a great distance from one side to the other, which makes it hard to hit nearby zombies. Unfortunately, adding a turn-around animation would only make things worse because it would increase the delay...

Abomination|Descent by InfiniteStateMachine 2010-09-03T14:23:00

Nice but quite hard. Once a green enemy is upon us, it's game over...

I think the camera should be a bit farther from the view (in other words, it would be nice to see more of the level, and enemies who are a bit farther away.)

Money Thief by Zachary Lewis 2010-08-26T11:38:00

Like the graphics, but web site doesn't answer, so I can't play.

Money Thief by Zachary Lewis 2010-09-01T14:28:00

Nice, very nicely made (graphics, tutorial, animations, a lot of content though maybe not always very interesting, the map/progression).

I think the music was a bit too subtle, and the jump too fast.

For me it wasn't fun enough to keep me playing (I merely unlocked the 2nd city), but I don't have any suggestion for improvements... Or maybe tweaking it to be more of an action game (improved jump, not "dying" at the first touch of an enemy, ability to jump off ladders...), or on the contrary turn it more into a reflection game (you *have* to get at least "x" gold to go to the next level, more difficult to find the right path). Or maybe both :). Or none.

Oh and of course this has nothing to do with the theme, as far as I can see.

BOMBCRASH by Xander Davis 2010-09-03T17:07:00

Nice graphics and finish, but too hard and the sounds quickly get annoying...

Defend Your Glacier by Meep 2010-09-06T14:44:00

Well done! This is a fun game, a bit hard at first but leaving room for the player to improve. I haven't managed to go past the semi-big snowmen yet; somehow I get three of them at the same time, unlike in your video where it looks much easier!

I like the ability to change ammo into health, which makes for a bit of strategy.

The parallax scrolling is a nice touch :). The instruction screens are good, sound too (though I didn't get to hear it under Wine.) With a cute upbeat music on top of that, it would be great.

I don't think this is really what the theme is supposed to be about, though.

Defend Your Glacier by Meep 2010-09-06T14:50:00

Oh, and maybe there could be a way to gain a snowball ball (by scraping the floor?) when there's none left. And I thought the collision boxes were relatively unforgiving (hard to jump over the semi-big snowmen). And I'd liek to be able to jump with UP.

EA X3000 by Dslayer27 2010-08-25T09:48:00

I definitely need more instructions to understand this game. I read the instructions, tried several times the test room, pressed all keys to see what they did... but I just don't get it.

Also it doesn't help that the game doesn't react very well to keypresses and that the keys are "x", "c" and "space"... (Note: I played under Wine.)

Prot by eugeneius 2010-08-25T15:01:00

Music is way too loud and repetitive, and a/d/w are not the best keys on an azerty keymap; other than that, it's pretty nice and well done.

HochEmpor by Mik 2010-09-03T05:29:00

Nice idea, but with the current handling of the hero (weird jump, jerkiness...) and complete absence of goal, it's pretty hard to have fun with this.

Fib by Sophie Houlden 2010-09-04T17:20:00

Interesting idea and some good level design. I like that it's not about "weapons" strictly speaking, but still about killing other people. I didn't see the point of having three different insults...

As far as the UI is concerned, IMO it would be easier with the icons always visible, and the Execute button next to them on the bottom of the screen.

For some reason, it works better than other Unity 3D games under Wine. The grey sphere that appears when I press "Execute" slows things down to a crawl though.

The graphics work well and the death animation is nice. The music, indeed, gets annoying after a while :).

Metagun by Notch 2010-08-25T14:57:00

Unfortunately unplayable here due to input lag and jerkiness :-/

Metagun by Notch 2010-08-31T23:58:00

After patching the Linux kernel I could actually play the game (the default kernel gives me huge input lag on games that use 100% cpu time), and so I was now able to have fun playing it. Good idea and impressive amount of (good) level design for the short timeframe! I got stuck in the room with the cubes above the spikes too.

:V unappreciative duck eats enemies by SpaceManiac 2010-09-01T00:12:00

What can I say... It's a start I guess! Runs at the perfect speed here, thanks to Wine I suppose ;).

I had to read the description and comments to understand that all the small dots where actually shot by the hero. I thought they were some starfield background scenery at first!

Doors and some other stuff by Hempuli 2010-08-26T09:39:00

Very nice graphics and good programming (from what I can see). I haven't solved the puzzle yet, but I'll try again :).

Mines and Bobbleheads by rale 2010-08-26T11:34:00

Doesn't work under Wine because of missing MSVCP60.dll I think... I'll try to get it later if I'm motivated enough. First trying games that work :).

Mines and Bobbleheads by rale 2010-09-01T14:02:00

Okayyy so I found a copy of msvcthing60.dll and copied it into the game's directory, which was enough to make it work. I didn't understand the instructions at all; why not write simply "pull the mines towards the big round white thing to make it smaller"? (Which doesn't make any sense, but I would have understood it better anyway :))
Then it's way too hard, not fun to die at first hit. But it's nice and reacts well.

Killer Knife-Robots from Knife Planet K by Jerm 2010-08-26T16:37:00

The hero definitely needs to go faster than that. As is, it's almost impossible to avoid the blades that seemingly come from nowhere (no predictable where, at least.) It would make the game less boring, too. Some robots could go towards the hero maybe.

It would be nice to know when a robot will get new blades (some blinking light for example).

Also the HUD is too small, I didn't see it at first and thought "this game really needs a HUD" ;).

However the back story was kinda fun :).

Collateral by Jonathan Whiting 2010-09-04T08:20:00

Erf... I played the game. The intro told me to "kill them all", so I thought that was the goal. I nonetheless went to the bottom without killing everyone and grabbed the thing and got a end game screen... So I stopped playing and pressed the back button, wondering what exactly was related to the theme in this game.

Then I watched your video... Which shows an entirely different game...

Double Bounce by Doches 2010-08-24T18:41:00

Seems good, but the windows version runs at about 1.5 fps here under Wine :-} (I have no idea what to do with the python scripts in the Linux archive.)

Double Bounce by Doches 2010-08-31T05:20:00

I installed pygame but the game also requires pymunk and unfortunately the AUR package for Arch Linux seems broken at the moment :-}

Double Bounce by Doches 2010-08-31T06:10:00

Oh well, tried it under Windows (argh), it’s a nice game. I like how the sounds in the menu almost sound like a music. Needs a way to change the par and delete walls in the editor! (Haven’t tried the jam version.)

Leave Me Alone by hamburger 2010-08-25T15:15:00

This is pretty good, I like it. Only problems are a slight input lag, the borders sometimes blink which is annoying, and the life time of the projectiles seem to be variable which means I couldn't finish one level because there was no way to reach the squares. I think.
Nice music!

Fire, Fire, Where You Are by Jonny D 2010-09-03T04:41:00

Thanks for the Linux version, but I'm missing libsprig.so.1 and there doesn't seem to be a package for it for Arch Linux...

HeadOrb by flashkick 2010-09-03T14:39:00

Quite good, I'm almost tempted to play a second time. The bullets moving at almost the same pace as the heads surely adds to the difficulty, but it didn't annoy me. Maybe it was a bit too hard though (I got 25 kills on my first try.)

Small problem: the screen blinks from time to time as if it wasn't drawn with double buffering (under Linux, might be a video driver or flash problem.)

Constatine Sucks by Cosine 2010-09-03T17:32:00

Impressed to find actual level design that requires some thinking to pass the levels!

However I wouldn't call a double jump powerup a "weapon"...

Emagtra by Super-Dot 2010-09-01T15:25:00

With some serious level design, this could be a great game! I like it anyway, but the 3 levels are clearly not enough... Especially the last one :)... Though I could see blue and yellow are enemies, which could create interesting gameplay situations if they did attack each over when they were closer than the closest red disc... (Maybe they already do, not sure.) Maybe with enemies that can only be killed by blue, enemies that can only be killed by yellow, thrown into the mix.

The Lair of Fungal Wonder by NiallM 2010-09-03T04:18:00

I built it under Arch Linux but it looks like I need to type "make install" to install it before being able to play... I don't want to put files all other my system so it would be nice to be able to "just play it" from the build dir!

Recycling Robots by athanazio 2010-09-04T15:21:00

I don't understand how to play, what I'm supposed to do, I tried shooting yellow stuff on the yellow tanks but that didn't harm them, the jump is too fast, I can't reach the red planes with red bullets, there are too many keys spread over the keyboard, and it doesn't seem to fit the theme. And the music is definitely too short. And doesn't loop correctly. Which is annoying.

Recycling Robots by athanazio 2010-09-04T15:23:00

Oh, wait, you can recycle dead enemies into bullets. Ok, that's for the theme...

Your Doomed by Osgeld 2010-09-01T15:11:00

I tried it under Linux, both the .love and the .exe with Wine, and they both have white rectangles for the sprites! Some alpha channel problem?

Besides that, the game was working fine.

As far as the gameplay is concerned, as others noted, you can push all the rec.. rocks to the right of the screen and then it becomes not so interesting :). Maybe you could implement waves of rocks/enemies, and the player would have to grab a rock to throw it on a bunch of other rocks in order to clear the path, or something.

Psychic Prison Break by superflat 2010-09-06T08:20:00

It doesn't make any sense, and I'm trying.

Also you really should wait for the "x" key to be released before detecting it has been pushed... If I keep it pressed more than one tenth of a second I sometimes miss dialogs. And some "press right" message on the logo screen would help :).

Seems interesting otherwise...

Psychic Prison Break by superflat 2010-09-06T08:32:00

Hmm I tried again. The biggest problem is the keys detection. Coupled with the fact that the dialogs can appear and disappear automatically without any interaction from the player, and that the dialogs almost don't make any sense, it makes it really hard to understand what's going on. It's also hard to understand what the little icons next to the dialog choices are supposed to indicate. And finally I don't have the patience to try several times all dialog choices to make something happen...

Omnicide by nitram_cero 2010-09-06T07:31:00

Nice, though a bit hard to play here due to slight jerkyness and a trackball. I played before reading the instructions here so I didn't know about the explosions... I'll try again.

LD20 — It's Dangerous to Go Alone! Take This!

Appy 1000mg by deepnight 2011-05-09T01:44:00

Apart from the jumping (a bit awkward) and of course the "scrolling", it's wonderful. Well done. Love the gfx, transition effects, dialogues :) and the weather effect of the dark world. And the end.

Iceberg Explorer by tinyworlds 2013-04-30T22:49:00

I disabled everything in the video options (red means disabled, right?) and then the game started. But the display is wrong (only a few polygons are shown) and the game is unplayable on my computer unfortunately.

Baron von Tater: Attack of the Taters! by mungoman1 2013-05-02T22:36:00

Pressing x or ctrl does not attack (linux version) so it's impossible to play. The web version is actually a download...? Audio and gfx seem nice though.

One Chance by spacechase0 2013-04-29T23:19:00

Nice music! The game is confusing, I didn't know what to do. Only after reading the comments did I try again and find the key and knife. But then I killed a few monsters, found another key and that's it... No idea where I should be going or what the things in the scenery are.
(I played with Wine under Linux.)

Cleaner Bot by Martin Vilcans 2013-05-08T23:39:00

The controls felt good although the fps was really low on my setup (firefox 20 / Linux / Intel HD graphics). Also the camera changed at a strange moment and then the robot was hidden by a wall. I would have liked arrow control instead of wasd so that I don't have to change my keymap to play.

Minimal Conquest by manax 2013-05-09T00:42:00

Rules of the game would be nice.

GridANT by Saand1338 2013-04-29T13:34:00

Shoot Guys by larsendt 2013-04-29T04:14:00

I couldn’t find the key to move right (d) so I just stayed there and pressed right and robots appeared and they died and I won.

Skeletal: A Barebones RPG by Galan 2013-04-29T04:32:00

This is not a minimalist game by Volute 2013-04-29T04:42:00

The beginning was nice and funny; not sure about the white part… Can it be done?

This is not a minimalist game by Volute 2013-05-09T16:31:00

So after reading the comments I thought there might be something more than this annoying white level where nothing can be done. I played again and saw I could press 1/etc. to change locations. This game is a nice achievement, although I find there is little logic in most required actions so I had to visit everything several times and drop random objects until something happened.

MinimizeArt by ahm99 2013-05-18T21:39:00

You should mention that there's a jar available!
Funny introduction and "caught" sequence.
Problem: I have to release the arrow key before pressing X to steal a painting.
Bigger problem: I have to restart from the beginning when I'm caught.
Otherwise seems like a decent simple game; not sure how it evolves after level 2 because I didn't pass it.

Rokhopr by David Durham 2013-04-29T13:22:00

Bear Necessities by itsZN 2013-05-02T23:37:00

I tried the windows version under linux, but it failed with "no lwjgl in java.library.path". I don't understand why java games often have separate downloads for windows, osx and linux; isn't it supposed to be cross-platform?

Illumbox by TylerC 2013-05-09T01:02:00

Pretty colour effects, even if they don't make much sense to me. As you wrote, obstacles are impossible to avoid, and the player moves a bit slowly. Nice music.

Centroid by daniel 2013-04-29T03:31:00

Original idea and fun for a while, but I don’t feel compeled to restart after losing at level 22! The first screen is confusing, clicking anywhere should just bring the next level IMHO.

Squeeps by Ryusui 2013-05-02T18:06:00

Cool; it was a little hard to know if I needed to eat / how was my health, but that's part of the fun. It was nice discovering I could drown the baddies.

Squeeps by Ryusui 2013-05-02T18:22:00

Oh, I had no idea that after dying the game continues from an egg that was laid earlier! I had to read the comments to learn that. I thought the game just restarted in a loop, and that there was no score whatsoever.

Onion Harvester by cacciatc 2013-04-29T19:05:00

Nice! The character control feels a bit sluggish and the huge white background hurts my eyes, but it’s a good game otherwise. I liked the moving platforms passage and the hard to reach onions in the first level.

People by BenW 2013-04-30T02:41:00

Nice! I don't understand why people are following the player or fleeing, though. I also wished I could press shift to run by the end :). And white hurts.

Perfection Achieved by Misael.K 2013-04-30T06:21:00

Only a Keyboard by Lidfrid 2013-04-29T19:45:00

Unfortunately I can't play this because qwerty (I guess) is hardcoded and this is not my keymap.

[[[[ by domrein 2013-05-03T04:00:00

Way too slow, but this idea has some potential.
Since the second level was (almost) the same as the first, and the instructions say "that's all you'll get", I thought there was no game at all... Then I read the first comments that seemed to imply there was actually something and I tried again.

Staring Contest by timtimtimtim 2013-05-02T02:06:00

The Ethereal Stage by Brassawiking 2013-05-19T20:24:00

I don't get it, better instructions would be nice (I don't feel like working one hour to try to understand the game). Nice music (for the first 30 s) and gfx though.

The Ethereal Stage by Brassawiking 2013-05-19T20:43:00

@Brassawiking: I got to that point but then... had to remember 3 runes, which was too much for me. And I didn't know what I was supposed to do. I think I'm too tired to play this... Thanks for trying my game!

The Ethereal Stage by Brassawiking 2013-05-20T22:39:00

Just so you know ;) I tried again and got to the point where the merchant tells you to wait for the next day. Then I didn't find how to make the story progress.

ASCII 219 by Richard Rice 2013-05-03T02:56:00

Minimalistic PotatoPeople by goerp 2013-05-18T20:26:00

I like the idea of programming stuff, but this game really needs a tutorial. Also the in game introduction text is truncated almost everywhere.

Minimalistic PotatoPeople by goerp 2013-05-18T20:29:00

I forgot, the game is blinking (looks like you are redrawing the game by first drawing a white rectangle, and there is no double-buffering.) And even after re-reading the instructions and trying again I have no idea what to do.

Pix by Holofire 2013-04-29T13:38:00

Works with “java -jar Pix_Linux.jar”, but why use wasd and not the arrow keys? I have to change keymaps to play the game…

Pix by Holofire 2013-04-29T14:21:00

Best game so far, well done! Some of the levels are too easy (and not sorted correctly) but all in all I had fun and wanted to complete it. The movement sound can be annoying after a while though, and it would be nice to have key repeat.

LD26 Crimson Tide by Neurolabe 2013-05-01T09:52:00

It was hard to grasp the concept at first for many reasons: I thought I was controlling the blue ball and that the controls were reversed, I had no idea what all those stats were, nor what this red color was about. I didn't notice that I was losing hitpoints when moving in the red zone and the game ended for no apparent reason.
After restarting twice and reading carefully the instructions I almost understand everything :). I like the way the red attacks and takes over the green slowly like a wave that can't be stopped, but can in fact be... But I found I had to repeat the same actions again and again: build walls, build tower, return to planar gate, sleep, go back to new camp, build camp, add archers and infantry, return to planar gate, sleep... I finally stopped way before making the map completely green :p.

Great game! I had fun. The black level was a bit long and the sequences were you have to go fast a bit too hard (but I made it eventually so I guess it’s ok). Also a less "beepy" movement sound would be great :).

Patty's Perilous Plunder by blearn 2013-05-02T22:50:00

Nicely made and minimal, but the music loop, while good, is way too short, and restarting from the beginning after each death is a pain.

Pretty good and fun. Only the last level was annoying, it took ages to climb that ramp! And I'm glad I didn't fall in the wrong one afterwards! The music loop is cool but too short, it got annoying after a while too. And of course I would have loved a non-white background.

It was a bit annoying not being able to lift one foot as long as the other was in the air, even if it makes sense. Maybe an audible signal (footstep) when it's ok to do so would help.

Swimming Fool by blackmagic 2013-05-11T22:06:00

Very nice, great graphics and music/sound. Unfortunately with firefox / intel hd graphics the game also has very low FPS and it was sometimes hard to choose the correct direction for a jump.
I would have liked to restart from the latest asteroid after a death instead of restarting from some checkpoint far away.

Funky Lincoln Saves the Day by TheCze 2013-05-02T21:21:00

Pretty fun, but I stopped at level 6 which was a bit hard. I might come back to this one later ;). Too bad the scrolling is so jerky.

Hiddensquares by Tozy 2013-04-30T04:42:00

I don't understand the game, and can't beat level 3. Otherwise nice music, and the circles effect looks cool!

Hiddensquares by Tozy 2013-05-18T13:47:00

I tried again after reading the hints, but still can't win level 3. I guess I have to click faster, but I can't.

Linewalker by jcmoyer 2013-04-29T04:03:00

Nice! I got lost though, started to think there was no ending, but still got back randomly and found it.

BEAPE by Xgor 2013-04-29T17:51:00

I tried it with Wine (Linux) but there is no sound, unfortunately.

TOOM by PoV 2013-05-17T02:49:00

Great graphics and nice audio (although not looping), but I didn't understand what to do apart from cooking a couple things... Does clicking on inventory objects do something? Not really fun clicking on stuff everywhere and not seeing anything happen. Works very well in Firefox 21 though.

Y&P by tobbez 2013-05-07T21:57:00

Very easy to build for Linux (git clone https://github.com/tobbez/LD26.git && cd LD26/LD26 && make). Works fine but the game is a bit too easy. I got 31, then 44 on my second try.

MiniHarvest by johnnei 2013-05-02T22:13:00

How are we supposed to start the game?

Complete Revenge: A Hero s Journey by Nuclear_Hammer 2013-05-03T04:03:00

The web version doesn't work for me, all I get is a black rectangle (firefox 20 with a bunch of extensions, but I enabled javascript and cookies to no effect.)

Prototype by OnlySlightly 2013-05-01T21:58:00

I liked the idea of a world full of lonely squares, and the cooperation. The player movement is perfect with its smoothness and subtle inertia. The abrupt ending gives a bonus point for the theme ;). Unfortunately I played it under Wine/Linux and there was no sound.

Dragon Drop by Tom 7 2013-05-02T05:16:00

Every mouse action blocks for a couple seconds which makes this game painful to use. (Tried on Firefox 20 and Midori, same result.)

Dragon Drop by Tom 7 2013-05-02T16:01:00

3.2 GHz dual core Core i3 isn't fast enough? What do we need to play your game?

Flight Time by Lerc 2013-05-09T16:45:00

Great but level 3 (red circle in the corner) was a bit too hard and the level with the 8 green circles way too hard. Well, I tried like 20 times, that's enough...

Flight Time by Lerc 2013-05-09T16:46:00

Oh and instructions would have helped.

REVOLVENGARDE by Andrio 2013-05-02T17:53:00

Nice idea, but it should start a little slower, especially the second level which is way too hard for me (and shouldn't be the default!). I had fun with the first level though!
(Audio didn't work under Wine.)

MiniMaul by CloudiestNights 2013-04-30T05:53:00

Nice game! But losing on the first hit and having to restart a completely different level from the start is "a bit" harsh. I would have liked to explore the randomly generated levels a bit further...

Minimally Run n Gun by madballneek 2013-04-29T23:35:00

Interesting idea but the controls are annoying (can’t go in diagonal; being blocked by the red squares; shooting on them seems to have no effect) and being alone against four enemies seems unfair. And the constant firing noise... Maybe I'm just tired... Also the game was wider than my firefox window, I don't see the point since it'll all hugely pixellated anyway. The game is smooth though.

Conundrum by ashmorefur 2013-05-02T22:27:00

Very good! (Assuming you made the music yourself during the week-end.)

I Dream Of Circles by SpaceStudios 2013-05-17T01:52:00

Pure Green by Christina Nordlander 2013-05-18T22:28:00

Minimal! Has some gameplay to it, but rather short lived (I lost once, then won). I guess it could be turned into an actual action platformer/jump and run game.

Entity by bitcrusher 2013-04-30T00:14:00

I like the minimalism of it :) It made me laugh.
Perfectly smooth and playable too, apart from the unusual non-sliding on walls while jumping.

Hexzilla by Bernhard 2013-05-01T02:08:00

Great presentation, good audio, very smooth (played the Linux version). Well done! The game itself lacked some goal to keep me playing, although I played much longer the second time I tried and then eventually lost/abandonned after 200 ~ (whatever this number means :) ).

Raining Shards by TheMaster99 2013-04-30T01:56:00

There's a problem with the game (under Linux with openjdk7), when I start the game the cannon shoots a couple bullets but then nothing happens, clicking doesn’t shoot anything, there is nothing to do. Nice music.

AlienHunt by huelsmanj 2013-05-03T04:28:00

Works well and is fun for a while (maybe I should keep this game to train my trackball pointing skills!) The starting sound and the flash when an enemy is killed are a bit violent though! And it *seemed* that I had to click slightly in front of the enemies.

North Korea World Savior by tsb 2013-05-03T04:39:00

8 people rated a game that cannot be downloaded, apparently. (Or they just didn't bother to leave a comment.)

Curiosity by Supermomo 2013-05-08T23:28:00

Dying randomly is not fun. Also why ask the player to press enter when the game uses the mouse and not the keyboard?

The Simple Clicker Game by psc1997 2013-05-07T22:02:00

Worked under Linux with openjdk7. Minimal but not very challenging! :)

Save the Potato, Save the world. by JohnnySix 2013-05-15T13:15:00

Linux version doesn't work on Arch Linux 64 bit:
./robotater: error while loading shared libraries: libgconf-2.so.4: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
I played the web version. Great music and graphics! Even though the framerate was a bit low, the game reacted well to key presses. However I didn't understand what the "!" squares were for and abandonned after dying too many times on the spikes. Restarting from the last point were the character was touching the ground instead of restarting from the beginning would be nice!

Employment by Fabien Porée 2013-05-03T05:07:00

That was pretty funny: the emptiness, raycasting 20 years later, the music, the broken keys. However not being able to slide against the walls was a bit annoying, especially in month 3... I stopped (lost) there after trying twice to reach the office and failing.
(Ran with Wine under Linux.)

Chao Ab Ordo by ZeroDivide 2013-04-29T18:11:00

Not bad for a 48h game. A score would help make it more interesting!

NightCap by ShuddaHaddaLottaFun 2013-05-09T21:49:00

Fun and interesting mecanic (having a limited time to do whatever needs to be done in the alternate reality). However it appears I went too far to the right and then the game restarted from the beginning, which was annoying.
The behaviour of the moving platform was strange; I believe the first time the character followed it automatically, while the second time it didn't and I had to press left or right to stay on top of it.

Game of Rows by Zim the Fox 2013-04-30T01:38:00

Well done! Good graphics, fun and smart gameplay, works perfectly. Why does this game have so few ratings?

I ran the "source" under Linux with python 3.

Pleistocene by Tomassino 2013-04-29T16:21:00

The game is really slow! Also it looks like there is no goal or reason to move at all?

Co-op by NalozycShade 2013-05-09T01:04:00

Can't download the game, I get a web page with an error.

Pixel Pusher by igrowbeards 2013-05-18T20:02:00

Works well, but not very fun (depressing music and the games requires neither skill nor thought.) Maybe with upbeat music and if the cubes were moving and you could push (throw) them several squares away...?

Exciting Game Experience Unit Shifter by cfloydtweets 2013-05-18T21:28:00

Funny but not very fun I'm afraid :).

Dodge by Copix 2013-05-18T21:18:00

Not bad, works well, it's decently minimalistic and having to catch a pan to win the level is unusual :). Complaints: once the game is lost I have to reload the page instead of simply pressing space, and the second level is very hard. I also didn't notice any shield after taking the mouth.

Nerdogochi by tiffi 2013-04-29T17:00:00

Funny. Yes it does work with openjdk7 under Linux (though I got a crash at the end.)

Sleepwalker by disease 2013-05-18T20:52:00

Good idea, but having to restart from the beginning is tedious; it would be nice to be able to accelerate the night time. The game froze at the bath time. The instuctions said to use y but y does nothing.

Peter The Stranger by NeskcirE 2013-05-18T21:01:00

The broken physics were funny (walking on the ceiling...) ;)
Not bad but I couldn't pass the underwater lava passage (too hard). The sounds are a bit painful.

Can't play your game because no Linux build. Also, please remember that not everyone has a qwerty keymap.

Min's Journey by acro 2013-05-02T23:12:00

Nice. I didn't have time to read all the text between the levels. Are the musics made with autotracker?

Tri-Forever by TaleLore 2013-05-09T01:27:00

Interesting but it takes too long before something happens, and when it does it seems pretty hard to both control the ball and avoid enemies.

Too Minimal? by AnTiCamPr 2013-04-30T23:25:00

Maybe it’s just a temporary thing but the download fails. "Bad gateway".

Too Minimal? by AnTiCamPr 2013-05-09T01:06:00

When you make an archive please include one single top-level directory, not a bunch of files, so extracting it does not put files everywhere :).

Too Minimal? by AnTiCamPr 2013-05-09T01:14:00

Well made but just keeping right and space pressed lets you go on forever (?). The game pauses a couple seconds from time to time, is this caused by garbage collection?

Gasoline Quest by Koltiman 2013-05-18T21:49:00

I'm glad to see Linux support, but an 11 MB .sh file? I never feel comfortable running something like that. Also wasd only works on qwerty.

Aaand...

Crescendo by SneakySalmon 2013-05-18T21:58:00

Forgot to say I'm using Arch Linux 64 bit, and there is no 32 bit libgconf available in the repos.

Color Police by ryuurei 2013-05-18T22:19:00

Can't download either. You should mention in the source link that it's in pygame, because when I saw "windows" I was ready to give up and go on with the next game; but PyGame I can run easily under Linux!

Color Police by ryuurei 2013-05-20T23:30:00

Excellent music! Probably the best soundtrack of all 100+ LD26 games I tried. To play the game under Arch Linux I had to install python2-pygame instead of python-pygame. I played a bit shooting everywhere and stopped after a while for a lack of goal (and also the game had slowed down a lot.) With a score, faster-moving squares and the ability to lose it could make a fun game.

Ramspace by sigfig 2013-05-18T23:02:00

This could be interesting but based on the description it seems there is not much to do. The game starting fullsceen, using wasd (qwerty only) instead of the arrow keys, and grabing my mouse pointer thus preventing from doing anything else at the same time, was slightly annoying. Still, nice graphics and atmosphere and seems to suit the theme well.

One Crate Sokoban In The Dark by stqn 2013-04-29T16:30:00

Thanks for the kind comments :).
@Xgor, ZeroDivide: indeed, nothing happens when you win. (Well, there is a "WON" message in the javascript console…)

One Crate Sokoban In The Dark by stqn 2013-04-29T21:20:00

Thanks again to everyone. I'm trying your games ;).

@spacechase0: to be honest, after making most of the game on saturday, I spent sunday trying to find a way to make it fun and didn't think of adding sounds or a score or some kind of progression. I don't think Firefox 20 supports the WebAudio API yet anyway...

One Crate Sokoban In The Dark by stqn 2013-04-30T03:41:00

@Pabo: all levels *should* be completable! The generator is not guaranteed to find a "good" level though (meaning it's possible that the crate starts on top of the target, for example.)

One Crate Sokoban In The Dark by stqn 2013-04-30T03:44:00

@Zim the Fox: yes, I didn’t put a source link because the source is in the page. It would be the same link. Glad you liked the game! :)

One Crate Sokoban In The Dark by stqn 2013-04-30T03:54:00

@CloudiestNights: I experimented with multiple boxes (I wasted a few hours on that) but decided to keep only one, partly because of the theme. If you want you can increase the numOfCrates value in the source code; it should work.

One Crate Sokoban In The Dark by stqn 2013-05-01T02:26:00

@pighead10: sorry about that, I have only used Firefox 20 to develop the game so at least Firefox should work!

Automatically generating a new level (and increasing a level/score counter) when the crate is on the target is a good idea, and adding a few sounds too... Maybe I'll work on that for a post-compo version :). I'd like to improve the generator too.

Cobalism by Woftles 2013-05-09T02:04:00

Let me correct that: _the_ level is rather empty. I explored a bit, killed several enemies, and it seemed there was nothing else to do so I quit.

Planets by Pabo 2013-04-30T05:16:00

In its current state the game is too easy / static / silent to be much fun, but at least it's working and it's rather minimal ;).
It can happen that the player is smaller than all the other bodies, too.

Be A Minimalist by 2kah 2013-05-09T00:37:00

Minimalize by CogentInvalid 2013-04-29T17:15:00

Works fine on Linux if you get the source, unpack it in a new directory (for example "minimalize") and run "love minimalize". (Please put all the files in a directory next time!)

It’s a great idea and the animation of disappearing squares looks good! However I found the control a bit stressful, especially since once space has been pressed there is no way to rest until the end of the level (and the music is unbearable after a while.)

Please allow the players to use arrow keys next time in addition to wasd (I don’t have a qwerty keyboard.)

Original idea, but I don't understand that game. The legal jargon makes no sense to me. I have no idea what the goal is. Does asking questions change anything in the outcome or is the only real game-changing choice at the very end? The ending I saw felt strange and unpleasant.

Hukaire by yellowlemming 2013-05-08T20:40:00

I played this under Linux with the help of Wine. It was kinda fun, but as others have said having to press return everytime was a bit tedious, and while I was scanning the map to look for Karatoises, killing weak ones and avoiding dangerous ones, I realized I'd have to do it again because I didn't note the coordinates of the ones I was avoiding on a piece of paper (or in a text editor). This is when I stopped playing because that didn't seem much fun :p.

HUE by DkCub23 2013-05-08T20:05:00

Painful due to small platforms and the way key presses / jumping is handled.

HUE by DkCub23 2013-05-08T20:10:00

PS: in fact, Sophie Houlden explained it better than me. That’s what I meant. Also the color trail makes it impossible to see where the square is while jumping above, and it’s moving too fast. I stopped at level 3 or 4.

Subtract by SlamBlasta 2013-04-30T00:10:00

I don't understand this game. Why would anyone not select the entire screen to show the shape? Pressing space does nothing. There are two negative numbers in the top-left hand corner; what are they? On my second try I lost on the first level for no reason that I could see.
Nice sounds though.

The Game Without Controls by methamphetabear 2013-05-02T01:18:00

Funny idea but controlling the game seems rather difficult and prone to break my other software, so I couldn’t go past the first screen. Nice graphics. (Tried under Wine/Linux.)

Hyportee by sirdorius 2013-04-30T02:15:00

Very nice, good music, but pushing the things can get a bit tedious as the movement is a bit slow. Also I got stuck inside a blob and there was no way to free myself from it.
There's a problem with the mouse wheel (under Linux), rolling it makes the level *very* small really quick and there's no way to get it back.

BLoK by BiOME 2013-04-29T22:42:00

Nice music. The key repeat is not adequate for the game; the player should move faster. It’s not obvious what the bomb does (I guess it's a "smart bomb" that kills all enemies on screen). I would have prefered the arrow keys to this strange choice of keys.

Aduno by Justin Mullin 2013-05-01T00:08:00

Very nice, good graphics and music and interesting gameplay! The game didn’t explain that I could modify the machines the first time, so I got stuck a bit on the third level or so. It would be nice to know the current level number and to be able to skip through the tutorial, and also if the levels were ordered by difficulty :).
When it started to be a bit complex (4 machines) it didn't feel that fun anymore (too many possibilities).

Minimum Friction by pvwradtke 2013-05-01T04:54:00

Great simple idea, well executed and perfectly in line with the theme! I like the music and the paralax squares in the background :). However it is annoying to restart from the beginning every time. The sound when an obstacle is passed is annoying too. (And why do so many people make games with totally white backgrounds? Arrgh... Painful.)

Triquacir by dertom 2013-04-30T23:10:00

Good music and nice presentation/graphics, but it kinda froze my system by level 3. Apparently there’s a huge memory leak.

<Insert Title Here> by hannardynamite 2013-05-19T17:14:00

Great music! Too bad there aren't any sound effect. The game is good, but difficulty ramps up too slowly, and also some levels seem easier than the previous one. Sometimes the game stops listening to my keypresses, and/or the player square moves by itself towards the edge of the window. Also some enemies get stuck in the top-left corner.

Mini Malice by Yann 2013-05-15T14:26:00

Nice! I like the graphics and colours. Too bad the game is so slow (played it with Firefox 20); controlling the character gets tedious quickly. But it was fun jumping on unstable platforms. Having to hit several times the soul’s shell was a bit tedious too; it would be nice to be able to break them with only one hit if the stomp is strong enough! I made it to the end and was disappointed :P.

Potato Art by SusanTheCat 2013-05-09T00:06:00

Great music! And fun game; I managed to find the painting ;). The jigsaw puzzle part was probably the most fun because the rest was rather straightforward.

The epicly short adventure by JaJ 2013-05-02T04:20:00

Being able to end the game almost immediately was pretty funny, as where the character's messages. But having to constantly press return and hear this horrible sound after each death, and the huge inertia / small platforms, and the low framerate/response time and crackling sound of the web version made this game less pleasant to play than it should have been. Nice graphics though.

Tana by oldtopman 2013-05-03T00:43:00

I really don't get what the game is. Move to the X and press space? It apparently crashed in an infinite loop at the end (neither ESC nor CTRL-C did work.) The control scheme was confusing, better use the arrow keys for compatibility.

Flipcrusher by Avant-Marde 2013-05-01T21:05:00

Church of Minimalism by kibertoad 2013-05-16T00:02:00

I tried again; this time the game launched, but the intro froze my pc and I had to reboot :(. Arch Linux 64 bit with OpenJDK 7.

NoBility by GFM 2013-05-19T17:24:00

Nice game but the text box prevented me from playing level 8 (it hides the top part of the level and was still slowly displaying the help for previous levels when I got there) and the audio loop is way too short, which becomes annoying quickly. Apart from that I have nothing to complain about, it's playable and with some more/bigger levels it could be pretty fun.

A journey to Nightshade by Sparrow 2013-05-19T17:38:00

Nice boat trail. But it's hard to know if the boat is moving, and there's nothing to do apparently. Also it's strange how the boat can only go up.

Reversnake by Username8978 2013-04-29T15:51:00

Nice idea. I think the 45° turns detract from the game, but maybe it’s just because I’ve only ever played 90° snake games. Also using the arrow keys instead of a and d would have been nice.

Flee: The Daily Adventures of a Springtail by Goodlookinguy 2013-05-18T20:16:00

Work well but it's impossible to avoid the creepers on level 2 due to the speed of the game and low visibility.

Taking Sides by jamioflan 2013-05-18T21:45:00

I like the screenshots but can't play because the game "requires a plugin". Also wasd works only on qwerty keymaps.

Taking Sides by jamioflan 2013-05-21T00:02:00

@jamioflan: yes, openjdk7. Turns out I had to install the icedtea-web-java7 package to get to run your game. I am *not* happy with it going fullscreen and not exiting when I press ESC and changing my monitor's resolution. I had to kill firefox to get my desktop back.

I Dream In Color by evilseanbot 2013-05-09T16:59:00

Cool idea but I played in Firefox 20 and pressing the right mouse button showed a menu, which made playing this more difficult than necessary :). Also jerky animation (low fps) and poor reaction to mouse clicks. But I really like the idea of placing light to show/activate only the required elements in order to create a path.

I Dream In Color by evilseanbot 2013-05-09T17:12:00

Ah, I had Firefox set to disallow javascripts to change or disable the context menu. Much more playable without this problem :p.
In the level with the boots, I win without doing anything, the boots just change direction on the first hole. I stopped at the flying shark level.

.Dot by sudojess 2013-05-05T07:02:00

Nice graphics and music, but what "twist" are you talking about? I finished the game in like 30 seconds and there was nothing special in there, just jumping.

.Dot by sudojess 2013-05-05T07:04:00

PS: also, very uneven framerate.

Leaf Me Alone by Claw 2013-05-09T18:40:00

Nice game, but jerky scrolling and I abandonned after trying like 10 times to reach the squirrel on his throne (?). Doesn't seem very theme-ish.

O.R.M. Ontological Ressource Management by Logun 2013-05-02T19:10:00

Interesting, but I think the gauges fill slower on my computer than on yours (the big gauge at the start definitely fills faster after buying more space and it is smaller.) You should take the elapsed time into account instead of just adding 2.
Then high scores would be great, since this game is all about the score :).

Conveyor by multikorv 2013-05-19T17:17:00

Too bad there's no Linux build. I like the screenshots.

Robbery by NerdsWBNerds 2013-05-09T00:11:00

Can you make a .jar?

Minimal Shootage by mramaizng 2013-05-03T05:14:00

Well, it's working and it's fun for as long as it lasts! A score counter would have been nice, though given the length of the game it doesn't really matter :).

Contact: Lost by William Bundy 2013-05-01T00:27:00

The very short sound loop combined with the low fps (maybe 10 fps) and the eye-hurting grid on the ground made this very hard to bear for me. Also the text at the beginning contains more information than I can assimilate at a time.
Love2D games are usually very smooth, I don't know what went wrong here.

You are the Minimalist by pighead10 2013-04-29T23:46:00

Interesting but I have no idea what should be done on level 2.

FLIP by howieV (binarygirl) 2013-05-02T22:41:00

Is this java? Can you make a .jar?

Zmore by mrspeaker 2013-04-29T15:42:00

Nice though a bit too easy I guess (and white). The white walls looked like a bug but I see it’s the same in your screenshot :).

Pretty cool!

LD29 — Beneath the Surface

A Glorious Escape for A Lich King by Benjamin 2014-05-20T21:27:00

Impressive amount of work and great idea! I’d love to play an extended and more balanced version (more difficult – the game is easy on hard once you understand the mecanics).

Negative points:
- the "music" was not very enjoyable
- the dynamite that explodes the tomb when you wanted to select a target instead
- too easy; once you’ve built a small spiral of towers then enemies are no longer a threat
- not obvious that the goblins are bringing gold (?) back to the tower.

Ripple Runner by DDRKirby(ISQ) 2014-05-20T21:09:00

Fantastic! In two days you made a game 100 times better than Bit.Trip Runner 2.

NOPE by shadow64 2014-05-08T00:24:00

Can’t get past score 2. I’ve read there’s something after that… too bad :(.
