LD18 — Enemies as Weapons

Thwackswinger 2 by squidlarkin 2010-08-23T09:54:00

Excellent mechanic/theme matchup. Gameplay was addictive and enjoyable. The simplicity of the graphic design complimented the mechanic well. Plus it didn't crash, which makes it better than many I've rated so far! Well done.

The dashing took a little getting used to, but once I did it was a lot of fun. The music fit the game design well, and the mechanic was well implemented. Nice job!

Out of ammo by samel 2010-08-23T05:48:00

Straightforward, but quite difficult in practice. Getting on the line between any pair of badguys is difficult to time, plus the added difficulty of getting out of the way before the bullet hits you once you're there. Lightning reflexes are a must. Could use a bit more tuning, but overall nice job!

Bac-Attack by Catmoo 2010-08-23T07:33:00

The antibacterial spray seems to appear at random and without warning, making it basically impossible to dodge, so the game over always felt rather arbitrary with nothing I could do to affect it. With the limited screen space it was hard to tell if my minions/other infected bits were doing much spreading when I wasn't around to see. Simple concept though, and executed well. Good graphics!

Exterminate 48 by Codexus 2010-08-23T06:34:00

Good gameplay. I'll admit I intentionally got shot a few times after I heard the death noise! Nothing too revolutionary in terms of mechanic, but nicely implemented. The background was a little dizzying, adding to the challenge. Nice work!

Weird menu items that don't do anything, "combat" by running towards enemies but never actually coming in contact with them. There was only one city I could find, and I couldn't figure out what to do once I was in there. Basically I wandered down, killing whatever came into view and holding Z when my circles turned red. Not sure what the point of the game was. I saw my circles get slightly larger but I never found any loot or anything to do except move my circles close to other circles.

Great graphics. I didn't see a way to know what was going to happen when I hit Z, an indicator of which spell I was going to cast would be nice. A few minutes with sfxr could have been helpful, but the graphics made up for it. Nice work!

Grabitas by NMcCoy 2010-08-23T07:04:00

Fast-paced with a nice graphical style. May have been an issue with java, but I didn't hear any music or sound. Fun to play, which makes it a success in my book. Good job!

Squibble Attack by Jamin 2010-08-23T09:47:00

Runs under wine. Not sure exactly what the mechanic is here. I move the square around and pick up a circle, and then I can throw it, and depending on which way the arrow keys are set it seems to bounce along an invisible line in that direction. I don't see what the L thingies are for, and the circles don't really seem to move in any sort of intelligent pattern that I can discern. Maybe I'm missing something?

Man And Robot by quoj 2010-08-23T05:39:00

Took a few tries to figure out that I was supposed to move the robots out of the way without killing myself. The "mine" in my mind was supposed to destroy them, not start remote-controlling them. Other than that, great work, a lot of fun to play!

'Rover', Swarm and Gun Turrets by pauloseamano 2010-08-23T06:56:00

Nice work for coded graphics. The speed of the gameplay was a little slow imho. The flocking code for the swarm looks great. Nice job!

Mind Control Monster Mash by Alistair Aitcheson 2010-08-23T07:10:00

The instructions don't stay on the screen long enough to read, and the game proceeds to start while I'm still trying to read them. Even after three attempts plus rereading what you have on the submission page, I couldn't figure out how to actually get one monster to attack another. Gave up after about 5 minutes of clicking everything I could see. It looks like a straightforward theme mechanic, just a little confusing on the implementation. I like the art style though.

The notes were a great comedic touch and helped add depth to the game. Once I realized I could move with wasd in addition to arrow keys, it made it much easier to shine the flashlight around with the mouse. At the end (I assume), I got trapped in a room with some giant thing that ran into a corner and got stuck there. I couldn't kill it with light or escape from the room, not sure if that was a bug or lack of imagination on my part, or the intended result. Anyway, nice job!

Rubber and Glue by alexandersshen 2010-08-23T06:19:00

Quick and simple. The sounds (sounds like sfxr?) fit the game well, and the gameplay mechanic was easy to get started with. Having a "hard" mode where all the words are the same color would add a little variety. Nice job!

Strangely, I wasn't expecting a side-scroller this time around, but here it is! I love the left-to-right choice as well, much more intuitive than the usual right-to-left of the incoming baddies. Theme connection is par for the course, but the implementation is humorous. The art style adds to the whimsical feel. Nicely done! Post some screenshots, updates and a timelapse next time around :)
