Cool concept!

I like that you can use conveyors as 'wires' to help you light up the level, but they're also a bit of a hindrance to movement once powered; that made for a nice balancing act. It would be good to start with a simple level and/or tutorial because the initial learning curve felt quite steep. Overall though, good work for two days! :)

An interesting game, with some cool mechanics but I found that it took me a while to learn to play. It also froze once.

resat-inci 2017-08-01 00:44

Game looks like a lot of fun, i like it. But it crashed for 4 times. I don't know why.

remco 2017-08-01 21:37

Thanks all!

@cakemonitor Yeah a tutorial would be great, but I barely had time for the little one-page help screen as is

@player2point0 @resat-inci Those freezing/crashing problems *should* be fixed (I'm allowed to do that since it doesn't change the game itself but does break it). I've put it next to the original submission(s) for the purists and curious.

That was fun. I like how much the guy slows down when you pick something up, I found myself trying to take short cuts and then getting stuck on conveyer belts wasting more time >< I love your music and sounds, and graphics are super pleasing

I really like this game on a conceptual level. Also, the music is 'fun'.

The big problem I had was with the character controller. I really disliked the way my avatar slides around. This problem is only compounded by the fact that battery placement for lights feels a bit picky (diagonals don't seem to work). Maybe batteries should have a bit more a radius.

I did not encounter any bugs.

Cool concept, although I'm not sure I entirely got how to play. This one definitely needed some more in-game explanation. I enjoyed messing around with it though (I really liked the mechanic of using the conveyor belts to propagate power), also it seemed like it crashed every time if I let the first two batteries die. Good work!

First impressions

Your help page is very hard to parse. The red text alone is unpleasant to read, but the real issue is having too much information on a single page. Splitting the different concepts onto separate pages would solve the issue. An interactive tutorial would be even better of course.

Starting with a smaller level first would be a smart move too. There's a lot going on in the current level and it is difficult to get a grasp on the mechanics as everything is running out of power all the time. Hurry! Do something, but what right now? Loads of choices, which is good in the long run, but you shouldn't start with that.

The good stuff

There is a lot of cool tech here. Power propagating through items, the way conveyor belts function, the lighting system, very cool tech indeed.

Managed to save 15 light bulbs on the second try. There's a lot to keep tabs on at the same time, which, like said, adds a lot of depth and choice once you get used to it. It is challenging thus *fun*.

Suggestions

There could be some more active elements in the factory floor messing up your flow, like cranes moving around or other robots doing their thing. Yes, I know. More features, but now you have ample time, right?

About the only bug I have is not being able to drop batteries or light bulbs on the conveyor belts. That would have been useful in hauling multiple light bulbs from one end of the factory floor to the next.

Conclusion

Good work in the design and simulation departments. The first impressions weren't very impressive, that's worth fixing so that people won't bounce off immediately.

Again, thank you all. I think the level of quality* and amount of feedback I get on my games is head and shoulders above when I started.

Case in point @huvaakoodia, that isn't just any old feedback any more, it's almost like a full review! Thank you so much! 'First impressions' and tutorial material is definitely my weak point (and in the game...) and have been since the beginning. I really should make it the main focus sometime. About dropping stuff on the conveyors: I really really *really* wanted to have that feature in there, but I made some design goofs in the code (long story short: I overcomplicated things immensely), and could barely finish it as it is. For example: Would you believe a feature as central to the game as the lighting was only in there during the last three hours?!

*) Of the feedback, not necessarily of my games, as that would be bragging

Really fun game, but needs some polishing. Good Job!

saramartins 2017-08-14 03:11

This was a really fun game, with a good concept. I had fun playing and also just moving stuff for the sake of having fun :P The power lanes were a really cool mechanic. Amazing entry, and made as a compo. Congratulations on such a great job!

remco 2017-08-22 17:41

Thank you all!

@saramartins Thank you! I see you even took the trouble to comment on my game from last time. Now that's dedication!
