LD27 — 10 Seconds

Gone in 10 seconds: a trio of mini games by Skully 2013-08-26T21:26:00

It's nice that you decided to make three games instead of one. They're all pretty fun, entirely different in their gameplay, and all very related to the theme in different ways. And they all function without problems! :)

Let Loose was a bit too much luck-based if you ask me, however. Luck in a timed video game? Bummer. At least it was pretty funny (not to mention nasty...).

7Tulips by pinkmonkeyhead 2013-08-26T02:17:00

Do you happen to have a standalone version? Linux has no Unity Web Player, and I can at least open standalone Unity games with Wine... Looks interesting, too. :(

GLITCH by TravisChen 2013-08-27T08:22:00

Ahh, I was looking forward to playing this, but Linux has no Unity Web Player! Standalone version, please?

Ten Second Samurai by Mclogenog 2013-08-26T18:57:00

Okay, this is freakin' SWEET! I absolutely love the theme you went width (besides "10 seconds" obviously :P) and the gameplay is a ton of fun. The mood on this is great; everything fits!

Now if only you'd introduce a more steady wave of enemies... They all come at you at once now so you get a big challenge for a moment and then some time to spare.

Bug Buster by ConflictiveLabs 2013-08-27T17:49:00

Damn, that is some funky music! The sound effects I've heard a thousand times before, however. :P

Good, sharp visual style! Nice theme. Fairly fun to play. Just wish I could skip through the replay, though!

Enemy Inbound by Canobie 2013-08-27T17:55:00

Interesting, but starts out really slowly, and then there's suddenly way too many enemies. Gameplay is negating by just holding a key, which just shoots a straight line of bullets, making the game rather easy.

Could have been better, but I do like the basic concept of it!

RimorD by Verz 2013-08-27T18:13:00

I... was confused all the way through. This looks like it could be an interesting adventure game, but as it is, it almost seemed buggy, or at least not very responsive to the things I did... Didn't enjoy it all that much, despite it being one of my more favourite genres and the art and situation looking interesting. :(

Making this but giving the player a 10 second choice with every question might have been a better idea.

10 Seconds and The Wizard by michail 2013-08-26T17:35:00

Not bad!

Where this game shines is in the humour. You've got some nice jokes, and damn do you love trolling the player. My mouse isn't that precise so this was quite a challenge!

I like the basic gameplay elements. Sort of a hybrid between action and point-and-click adventure. Though I do think you could have done more with the character's movement, like put some obstacles in the way. As it is, his movement is no more than a visual distraction as you try to hunt down those keys!

Also, the entire "10 seconds" theme didn't factor into the gameplay in any way. It factored into the story, but the story was so simple that it hardly mattered (except as a joke that made me laugh!). Could've been more creative with that! ;)

10 second roguelike by jackyjjc 2013-08-26T19:17:00

Thought the game was broken until I learned that you need to press space to start...

Gameplay is very simple! I managed to win after a few tries, but after that the game just kind of restarts. Could have had several levels, just to give the player a feeling he's getting somewhere, and to make us a bit more competitive to post our scores on here. ;)

I like the gameplay. You basically have to scramble as soon as possible to get a sword and shield or you are doomed. I like that. Takes some figuring out and some quick thinking. But still, this could have been much more, I think!

Ten Thousand Milliseconds to Live! by ThirteenWB 2013-08-26T18:48:00

Ooh! I really like the aesthetics on this one! What you lack in graphic skills, you make up for by having this random glitch-like pattern and a dynamic, helpful background.

Some levels are really challenging, especially when I want to obtain as many coins as I can. The music was a bit annoying, though it did fit the rest of the mood. The music just cut out halfway through though...

Amazing how many levels you made for this. It crashes every few levels for me (terminal output "mmap() failed: Cannot allocate memory" and "Format not supported"), but luckily you made a level selector so I can continue at my own convenience! :)

10 Seconds of Love and Anger by kcpunk666 2013-08-27T18:08:00

"The zero key is 10."
This made me think I had to press 0 after mentally counting to ten, so I died on the first try. :P

Music and presentation on this are very good. I like the unique application of the 10 seconds theme. Gameplay was okay, fairly standard platformer fare I think! The wife getting hit should have done something too to make it a bit more interesting, perhaps.

Hold My Beer! by Lars Faust 2013-08-26T17:21:00

Hey! DaVince here. Tried out your game! It works in Linux (though I have to set the permissions on the .x86 file to executable)! :)

Man, that was crazy. I liked the end. Nice graphical style! And you picked a great topic.

Your game was confusing at first. You're just thrown in, without explanation, and the graphics are so low-res it takes some time to really figure out what you should do each game. But once you do, they're pretty fun! It's pretty impressive how you managed to code so many different minigames.

I feel that this could have integrated the theme of 10 seconds a bit better. As it is, it's not even clear that there *is* a time limit. There's no real feeling of time pressure when you don't put a timer on screen, and most of the games are usually finished well within that time. (Oh well, I shouldn't complain too much, my game has the issue of needing to wait sometimes!)

As for the audio, it's decent! Mostly weird. :P Also, I understand the audio's panning goes from right to left as sort of an indication how far you've gotten, but hearing it *entirely* on the right at the start made me wonder if my speakers were having an issue. (They do sometimes.)

Ludum Dare makes people finish games! It's awesome.

Ten second(s) hand-swords by Gaspard_ 2013-09-08T18:09:00

Oh god this game is so weird and confusing. Nothing made sense! It felt so glitchy! But in the end, I noticed that yes, I am actually playing! Stuff is happening!

This is not just a game, it's an experience. Well done, dude. Just make it a little bit easier to play next time. ;)

I also felt you haven't incorporated the theme very well. Didn't really notice anything even though my bonus timer supposedly changed. You could have worked on that.

10 Seconds is a Game Changer! by JellyMan64 2013-08-27T18:21:00

For a moment I thought this was going to be a Sega 32x game. :P </obscureconsolereference>

I like the concept of this! Didn't see much of a noticeable difference throughout the game, however. Maybe I should try to get further.

But the thing is, the controls were very sensitive and somewhat buggy (kept trailing to the right, though this might be a Unity bug with Wine in Linux...); that detracted from the experience so I couldn't really get far.

Blobb has enough time by bitowl 2013-08-27T18:01:00

This was pretty fun. Charming graphics, but mostly the gameplay was rather interesting. I like how you had to figure out everything yourself at first. I do think the enemies that spawned were hardly a challenge, though. :P

Flippin' Matrix by DaVince 2013-08-26T16:20:00

@Lars: Thanks a ton! Glad someone was looking forward to it. I recommend bookmarking all the people who seem to have interesting projects, that's what I do. ;)

I agree entirely on the fact that the old man hardly gets any action. My plan was to have him solve some puzzles in some of the middle bits, but in the end I didn't get time to code it all. That's where the "too short" bit comes from. The old man does almost nothing but wait, unfortunately!

@michall: thanks! Was going for a bit of humour. :)

Flippin' Matrix by DaVince 2013-08-29T00:17:00

Thanks for the reviews so far, all! It's tough to keep the coolness count up. :P Also, yup, looks like everyone's thinking the same thing about Old Man, even me!

doonay21: I can grant that wish! Open games\FlippinMatrix\scripts\start.js in a text editor and change the line saying
var DEBUG = false;
to
var DEBUG = true;
You'll now see some debug stuff on the screen while playing, but button 3 (key S on the keyboard) will now act as an instant switcher. Actually makes it a bit more enjoyable, I think. :P

Origin Within by FanFan 2013-08-26T09:21:00

Fun! Creative and original; it really made me think what I should do next, and there was no time to spare. Good job!

Origin Within by FanFan 2013-08-26T17:40:00

If you didn't respawn every 10 seconds, there would be no challenge! The entire point of the 10 seconds is to make you think what path you're going to take, you know? ;)

Amp'd on Health Potions by Radnen 2013-08-26T09:34:00

Fun, but difficult... until I realized you can defeat the enemies to survive. Even then, it's challenging, and a lot of fun. Good job.

Would love to see an extended version of this. One where the player's life and the dungeons get longer later on, and the silly jokes keep being a thing. Good job!

Delayed by Jordo76 2013-08-27T17:39:00

Hmm, how do I start the Linux version? Delayed.exe doesn't work with Wine or Mono...

Black Hole Runner by MatrixBai 2013-08-26T19:07:00

Both the Windows and Linux versions don't want to work - there's an error about the data folder missing in both cases!

Can't play the online version myself because there is no Linux Unity Web Player. Fix please? :(

The Lonely Sentry by namrog84 2013-11-15T19:45:00

Pretty cool! :)

Orction House Panic by Dry Tree 2013-08-27T17:45:00

It's funny! And there's a lot of good sound and music in this! The game is rather easy to win, however, and winning doesn't reap you any extra funniness.

Still, though. This is very well presented. Good job!

Orction House Panic by Dry Tree 2013-08-27T17:46:00

I wanted to say sound and music and art. The art's nice and fun.

RUN: TEN MORE SECONDS by DeadlyFugu 2013-08-26T18:03:00

Neat game! Very stressful to play. Worth playing over and over just to listen to how the music continues. Gameplay is nothing too special compared to other running games, but the timer certainly adds another layer of challenge to it all.

By the way, it has a muting bug? Every time I die, the music mutes for good, until I press M myself, of course.

LD28 — You Only Get One

Cellar Rush by Radnen 2013-12-17T19:20:00

Challenging! Haven't managed to win yet. I like the medieval theme you gave this.

Also, smashing the space bar when you're about to die will very likely make you skip the "You Died" screen. Add a small delay or a different button to return to the main menu?

Cellar Rush by Radnen 2013-12-17T19:28:00

Also, thanks Dmitrix (and Radnen, of course)!
