Amazing game you have made

inabox 2017-05-03 17:12

I love adventure games! This is so fun! The one with the desk tricked me, but all over it is great. The music is amazing, even if it sounds simple. I find it to fit perfect. I love the black and white theme, and the little person (player) is amazing. Look it how it wobbles! <3

It was very fun and the ending was very dramatic. I LOVE IT! I really hope you continue it. :)

Very cool B&W art, especially the room transition effect! Some ambient noise/music would have set a perfect mood! Is there something more to do after I get the statue?

brandann 2017-05-05 19:37

great entry! the art, audio, game-play all were fun. interacting with the corpse was my favorite. just no.

mhaton 2017-05-07 08:25

@warbzz Thanks :)

@Inabox Wobble wobble <3

@Ace17 The statue has to go somewhere, but after that... who knows :) (side note: If playing the HTML5 version it is actually harder to tell when the game ends, the desktop version fades out and closes itself, but I can't close it in HTML5. Should've put a little 'Fin' card at the end. If your screen's black - you're done!)

@brandann Ew, corpses.

ryte2byte 2017-05-07 18:47

You are SO freaking lucky you put the gum table screenshot on this page, lol!

I like this a lot. Finished it. Not a huge fan of the 'right-click' to close message box thing, but not super annoyed either. That effect on the room transition is to die for! Your writing was good and, overall, the game is rather charming.

randomhuman 2017-05-07 20:53

That's a mighty fine game you've made there. At first I thought it was a shame the music from the menu disappeared, but then I realised that there was a good reason for that and it worked really well. Some sound effects would really have perfected the audio though, some nice echoey footsteps or something. I have some issues with the controls as well - I think space should be jump, and w to change rooms, and dismissing the text boxes was weird. Great game overall though, it really had me scratching my head in the adventure game tradition!

Finally beat this one - took me a really long time to get there! Was a good puzzler, and kinda nice to not be able to find the answers by looking back at this. If I hadn't seen others beat this, I might've given up. It was a good challenge.

akirassasin 2017-05-08 04:34

Can't run the HTML5 version, but that main menu music is awesome! I clicked play and it faded to black, music still plays.

quadtree 2017-05-08 07:14

Nice, although I did need the gum screenshot to figure that puzzle out. The aesthetic was pretty good, I really liked the black-and-white style. Some of the puzzles required some trial-and-error, but I was eventually able to complete it.

mhaton 2017-05-08 08:14

@ryte2byte I may or may not have made that decision based on how stuck the first few people to try it got >.> I'm considering coming back to this as I had a blast making it, but had to cut some corners on the puzzle(s) to get it done in time for the compo. I'm not a huge fan of the complete trial and error @quadtree mentions that's required in some cases, or having to right click to close boxes, so there's definitely a bit of polish needed there :)

@randomhuman I'm actually more a sound & design guy than I am a programmer or artist, and you're super right. The problem with feeling more confident in my audio abilities is I have a bad habit of doing sound last and running out of time. I actually have exactly what you suggested recorded (an echoey footstep), and had trouble implementing it in a way that didn't suck (back to the slightly iffy programming skills) in the time I had left. Lesson learned for next time :)

@akirassasin Strange, but I hope the downloadable version worked for you! I've not used the HTML5 export before, so it's probably got some weird bugs to it that I didn't catch :( Sorry about that!

Thanks for the kind words folks!

Lovely game! Nice minimal graphics and I loved the quiet music. The only thing is that I found the keys not so intuitive.You could work to make the interaction more immediate by using only one action to interact with things/people, and making the transition between screen automatic. Makes sense to you? Well done anyway! :)

ratking 2017-05-08 09:30

Great mood!

frodewin 2017-05-08 20:59

I like the black and white ambiente and the music. I also like point-and-click adventures, but I was a bit confused by the different key controls, for example when I had to use mouse click or space depending on the action.

ace17 2017-05-09 06:07

Just re-played it, and finished it this time!

Still a very cool point-and-click, with its own graphic style. Once the reverberated piano music starts playing, it becomes hypnotic and fits the "alone" mood.

Possible improvements: the actions are a little annoying, take/drop isn't used too much, and the right-click to close is also misleading. There's also a potential error: if you press spacebar many times quickly during a room transition, you can "teleport" to any room. It seems unintended, although it certainly is practical!

mwcz 2017-05-10 23:14

The black and white graphics have a very cool mysterous feel.

coderdozer 2017-05-13 21:22

Love the black and white style, kind of reminds me of limbo. Nice job!

unclechris 2017-05-16 21:27

Very nice job, and very intricate in your puzzle craft. THANKS for the reminder to right click to close dialog boxes - maybe close if I clicked on one of the buttons or such, but good.

dining-philosopher 2017-05-16 21:34

Great entry, I spend a lot of time finishing it. I downloaded the source to figure out the ***SPOILER ALERT*** step of using a walkie talkie in the gramophone, after that it went pretty smoothly. Very atmospheric, the only thing that broke the style a bit was the happy face on the monster, I'm guessing time was up ;) Hope to see another game from you next time!

zyxer 2017-05-16 21:39

Okay, I've taken waaay to long to play this game.. at least an hour... I now placed the statue in the plinth. WHAT DO I DO NOW??? I have the feeling that I nearly solved the puzzle, but I'm just not quite there yet. Really frustrating...

Anyway, congratulations, really well done point-and-click adventure. Simple, but atmospheric graphics and music that fit well together. Captivating "story" and puzzles. The controls are a bit weird, but that has been mentioned in the other comments. I discovered a bug: if you press the space bar during an open speech bubble (for example at the power button), the game crashes. Happened to me twice, kind of frustrating, but if you know what to do its relatively easy to get back to the same point in the game.

What I really enjoyed was the subtle humor. Had do smile several times (which really rarely happens to me while playing LD games). 5/5 for humor.
