Very nice game, high levels of polish. Dunno how to get the dolphin or volcano achievements though.

Wow awesome! This is super-original and pretty fun.
I wish the pace were a little slower. I don't feel like I have time to both read the cards and watch the impact of my choices on the world above... I also seemed to keep getting the same few cards over and over.
Definitely expand on this. It would make a great mobile game!
Wow, original game!!! The card are beautiful!!! Really, awesome job on it. It's funny to see people become dophins ^^
Goob job
Awesome! The cards are hilarious and well drawn, and the sandbox game play is surprisingly fleshed out. Reminds me of the powder game from way back.
The whaaat :D That was a really crazy experience. I did not fully understand what I did, but my planet shrinked down and then there was just water everywhere :D The game looks and feels super polished and it is super interresting to see what you can achieve with different cards. Only downside, I had some performance issues with the web build.
Awesome! So much polish! Great art, music and gameplay! Only complaint is that whenever the flood comes to my planet, it starts going very slow, and the game looses all it's charm.
Aside from that the game is pretty sick! Altough, is there some strategy with the cards? I try to keep the ones I don't wanna play, but I'm screwed if I have 2 cards I don't want to play.
Keep up the good work people!!
The art is really good! The only achievement I couldn't figure out how to get was the volcano one. I felt like I saw all the cards pretty quickly, more cards would go a long way in replayability.
Not really sure what was happening, but was entertained anyhow. Also, it was very slow on my system.
So weird and wonderful. I played this longer than I needed to. Wish there were more cards that created land. Awesome game!
Loved the art style and the game in general! great job!
Lovely pixel art. Little sluggish (FF on windows). Nice use on the theme (consequences of choice on our small world indeed). Definitely avoided the "new leader changes status quo" for my entire play through.
I adore this. With more cards it could be a genuinely entertaining sandbox game.
Man, I had no idea what was going on but I still had a good time with it. Like several above, I got all the achievements besides the volcano. How the heck do you get the volcano?
I wasn't really sure how to strategize with the cards, or how to interplay that with the sandbox stuff, but it made me laugh either way.
Very original concept! I like how the world dynamically changes based on what you decide to pick. Seems like you can get a lot of neat combos going! Also - really funny card descriptions.
I didn't really know how to "win" (or if that's even part of it). Seems like a way to kind of relax and run a 'what-if' world simulator. Nice job!
I don't ... what th-- ... I ...
There is some genuine insanity going on here. Funny stuff, great card art, awesome dolphin parts.
Neat! A nice powder simulator. Wish I could reset without refreshing, because I definitely destroyed each planet about 3 seconds in.
This one was a plesant surprise. A very polished crazy sandbox simulation with a lot of cool interactions. The graphics are very well drawn and I love the attention to detail with the effects of the cards. The sound effects and music are also well done. Definitely one of my favorites of theis LD
Thanks for the feedback everyone! We added a download for the executable up top for those who had performance issues (@obvious-san, @multiplexor, @cymansap, @emarcotte).
For the lava achievement you, well... you need _a lot_ of lava. :volcano:
Very fun game, I like you guys mixed a card game with a physics sandbox simulation, it was really fun to play with, one of my favorite submissions!
First run: apparently I turned the Earth into a hollowed-out sphere of boiling water full of exploding nukes, dolphins, and zombies. The three card hand seems a bit small for directing the world though - I tried for the volcano achievement but got locked into choosing between Biblical Flood and Hollow Earth, at which point I mispicked Biblical Flood because I thought Hollow Earth would also clear the lava core. Then I tried again and got stuck with two Biblical Floods. Fourth attempt I chained ballistic missiles and volcanoes together and turned half of the planet into lava craters. This still was not enough, so I just blew the whole thing up. That volcano achievement requires a **lot** of lava.
fun little game to mess around with
Great looking entry! I'm totally lost about how to play it, but it's fun clicking around and seeing bad things happen. I guess that's the point? Great entry!
One of my favorites for this jam. I really like the art and while the concept isn't absolutely original you've done something new with it. The card system is very interesting and the "draw two let one go" is very curious. If you did some more achievements and more cards, I'd be happy to keep it in my phone.
##### First thoughts What the hell is going on? Why all my vegan dolphins flew away from the waterworld:tm:?
Does not understood mechanics, but had a fun time destroying the worlds anyway. If only there was more cards. ##### Art At first I didn't liked cliched planet-in-space style, but after a couple of catastrophic cards (oh, and cards art - totally loved it) I changed my opinion on quite opposite.
As I understood by the stars in the background - the world's falling straight in hell. Sad!
##### Audio The music felt happy on the first minutes, but then I started to noticing some dark motives. And this absolutely worked for me on the mood of the game.
##### Overall Actually it was a very hilarious chaos generator.
Awesome job, guys!
The concept is really fun and the graphics looked very promising but the game got repetitive really fast, drawing the same couple of cards over and over. Also I'm not sure I quite understood what I was supposed to do apart from activating cards and see the effects. It was incredibly slow but I couldn't run the windoww version and had to play the web version but I won't blame you on that.
I ended up with a hollow planet fully made of water with volcanoes erupting which made a really nice result, I regret not taking a screenshot. Overall good job!
I could basically copy would @tselmek wrote, except I was unable to play the web version and used the downloaded binary instead.
Definitely a nice entry!
How to sum up this game: http://i3.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/facebook/000/234/146/bf8.jpg
And then you click on the Trump card while you have missiles and ... O_O --> ^^
I liked the lemmings like destructible terrain mechanic. Very impressive :)
This was hilarious! I enjoyed seeing what every card did, and I feel like I broke the game... but I think I was supposed to break the game! Sometimes getting the same cards got repetitive, but at the same time, I got excited seeing similar cards again. Great job, and thanks!
I couldn't get the volcano achievement, or the skull achievement. I'd assume the skull achievement comes from killing everyone, but not matter how quickly I do they just respawn immediately (EDIT: n/m, that wast the Cure for Death's fault).
Also, apologies to Troop, but, I could't understand a _word_ he was saying during the intro. Perhaps some subtitles?
EDIT: Whoops, after all that, nearly forgot to mention that I really liked this! It might need some tweaks, but this is really creative and cool.
I sexually identify as an Attack Helicopter and this game offended me for not including my gender!!!! And also, I approved Trump's message
Joking aside, this game is hilarious and chaotic. Would love to see you guys add more type cards to the game, because the game does get quite repetitive after awhile.
Overall, I think you guys did a great job here!
I love card games and I love particle simulation games, perfect!
I was reading the cards carefully at the beginning and managed to get dolphins achievement, but then same cards kept coming again and again so I just started clicking on them randomly. Can you lose? Does your planet inevitably become an ocean world which happened on both of my playthroughs? I guess not, since I wasn't able to get any other achievements for some reason. Will get back to it to try again for sure!
The game is one of the most appealing of this jam, the world simulation looks so intersting. The intro was really great, kind of melancholic. Not sure why, but it reminded me of Jade Cocoon. The cards also look amazing. From a gameplay perspective, i didn't really get it. To me it seemed like i get some cards which i'll have to click each (for example accumulating some tech cards that repeatedly fodun the cure for death). So i'm not really sure what my options are here. This is intensified because of duplicates (no real choice if you have the same card several times). If the card i do not pick remains there forever, i will have to use it eventually. Maybe make the not-picked card disappear? Otherwise i don't feel i have a meaningful choice here.
I often ended up with cards (for example only 2 times volcano) that gave me no choice but to destroy the world. The volcano seems a bit bugged right now, a big chunk of the world just gets removed: 1.png
Or waterworld + hollow earth, but this is fun :D Btw the particle accelerators just kept flying through the middle and back, because there was no land where they could stand on :D 2.png
A very ambitious project which looks immensely interesting already. I think it's a great achievement that you finished it and brought it to such a polished state already. I would love it if the card mechanics would be improved a bit and if i could watch how the world recovers from disasters more. Overall a very good entry :)
PS quick bug report: you can execute 2 events with one click by clicking them when they fly in.
Great job on the particle physics, the graphics and the humorous card descriptions.
The music fit nicely and didn't get annoying even after 15 minutes of play, the "noo" sound effect did get repetitive though, a few more samples would help there. Also the narration in the beginning sounded interesting but was a little too quiet compared to the music. Maybe turn it up a notch and add subtitles and that wouldn't be a problem anymore
Enjoyed playing very much
Wow this is a very interesting game, and it feels like it's the start of a really great idea. It's impressive the quality of content you've already been able to make, and the idea of a whole physics based planet simulating fluids and magma particles with civilizations really excites me.
It doesn't feel like there's much of a game here yet though, I got to the point where the whole planet was water, all my dudes were dolphins and it just didn't matter which cards I picked anymore. Some of the ways the cards interacted with each other was really interesting, like Donald Trump blowing up all the ballistic weapons. It felt like it needed more interactions like these to make it a complete game. But well done on creating such an innovative and novel experience, it feels like it's the beginnings of a truly awesome game and I hope you continue to work on it.
Heya guys! Thanks for all the kind words. We'd love to fix some of the issues but in the spirit of the Jam we're just rolling with the flaws.
> **What the hell is going on? Why all my vegan dolphins flew away from the waterworld(tm)?**
Read a book!
> **Can you lose? Does your planet inevitably become an ocean world which happened on both of my playthroughs? **
You can lose! kill all your little guys. The cure life card makes this hard though, plus some of the really destructive cards are probably not destructive in the way you'd need.
> **the narration in the beginning sounded interesting but was a little too quiet compared to the music. Maybe turn it up a notch and add subtitles and that wouldn’t be a problem anymore smiley.**
_"On a tiny planet in the middle of a great and wondrous cosmos, there stands a tribe of primitive millennials. They strive to achieve something truly amazing, to be remembered for years to come, lest they be wiped out and forgotten, leaving behind only ruins. It’s in fate’s hands now, so let's see just how far they get...."_
> **It doesn’t feel like there’s much of a game here yet though**
This is the biggest design flaw we discovered early on. We decided just to roll with to see what could be done. We had most fun playing around with the sandbox, and the card mechanic was fun but random, plus it didn't really work in a gameplay sense. So we added the goal of unlocking world-editing achievements, rewarding players for sticking with it. Even then there are a couple of tools/achievements we didn't get to add due to time constraints.
:warning: **SPOILERS BELOW** :warning:
If you're reading this you probably played the game already. Here are some hints how to get the achievements. Click on the achievements and then on the planet to affect it!
- Skull (not a tool): Do not play the cure death card before getting this! Kill all your inhabitants. Spawn a volcano and wait for everyone to fall in the gaping big bug-hole where the volcano is supposed to be. :p - Dolphin (Water tool): Try to convert the planet into water, and turn everyone in to dolphins afterwards. - Lava (Lava tool): Flood a large part of the world with lava. - Destroyed planet (Air tool): Kill most of the planet 'dirt'. ICBM's, waterworld then hollow world, lots of options here.
There is potential here, i had a lot of fun. Some thoughts and bugs I found: -You can play cards while being draw, and as they may be some on top of the others you can accidentaly play two cards at once. -Once you get a cure for the death, the game becomes infinite, without the ability to restart. Also new cards of cure for the death are useless and actually when you play them the appear on the left, each time below of the previous one (sometimes even you have two of the desplaying) until they exists below the bottom of the screen. -The volcano achievment is really hard to get, i got a lot more cards of turning everything into water than eruptions ones, making almost impossible to keep my lava. Blocking to draw cards that you already have in hand could fix this. Or having more cards in your hand, but i guess you chose three because of the little number of different cards they exist. -Combinations are really funny, congratulations to all the possibles outcomes after such little quantity of different cards. -Some times the citizens exist inside the earth. -I dont know if the alien spaceship interacts with anything .
Congratulations. Solid entry.

But seriously, this is amazing. The mechanics couldn't be simpler, and the possibilities couldn't be endlesser. In fact, I think this could be a very good game on a larger scale, but very hard to design, as this version already has a lot of weird behavior. Anyways, I'm fascinated with how polished you managed to make this game feel, even though it basically lives off of its buggy and strange physics. It has the right proportions of randomness and purpose a LD game can produce. Awesome job, congratulations.
One of my favorites so far!
Lots of funny insanity, nice graphics and sounds, even doing random stuff will somehow get you somewhere until you understand at least part of what's going on.
So far every play through resulted in the planet being just a ball of water with dolphins swimming around.
Only thing that I think is missing is a way to dispose of cards you don't want.
Ahahah that was awesome ! I'm still amazed so much people survived the 432th world bombing, 9238th biblical flood and the fact that their planet basically never had any core ? :D
I really like the art and sounds !
Very cool game, loved the graphics!
Also the gameplay is fairly interesting, having to choose between the different cards, could be expanded easily!
WhatIsGoingOn.JPG
I try to understand what's going on. Funny game, I liked playing it. I had one problem: Sometimes I got 2 of the same card at once.
Wow it's funny and well made ! I love graphics, beautiful pixel art :)
One of the best entry I see in this ludum, good job ! Impressive !
(And you use libgdx <3 )
Great game! Really original idea. The water simulation reminds me of a mobile game called The Sandbox. Cards were funny and beautiful. Didn't know how to get the volcano achievement, though. Good work!
非常棒的游戏!点子非常原创。水的模拟效果很像一个叫“沙盒”的手游。卡面很精美,描述也很逗。不知道怎么拿那个火山的成就。总的来说挺不错的!
epic
Kinda funny with the results of some cards but I could only get the destroy achievement... I wish there was a reset function.
Most of the cards showed up multiple times but didn't seem to have obvious purpose or effects. Once the entire world becomes water it's quite boring to mess with, as the cards have even less effect on it. Pretty nice graphics though, nice entry.
Amazing game that resembles Populous on a small planet. We really considered the creation of something similar in the beginning of the Jam - but instead of cards, we wanted to bombard the planet with asteroids and stuff. However, we considered that it is unrealistic to implement such idea in such a short timeframe. But you guys really made it!!!
Kudos! It's unbelievable job! Definitely 5/5 overall score.
Absolutly did'nt understand what I have done, but it was fun ! :D
Very fun game! I enjoyed it. I liked the achievements that you could get as well as the idea of having a sort of sand-boxy game.
Physics! Particles! I feel bad for this world. Nice humor! 10 :dolphin: / 10 :dolphin:
This game is its own thang (an a very nice thang at that), I wish i could make a game that was as much its own thang as this game is. score: its own thang/10 #HollowWatterworldEarth
The artwork is very good, and the game has a humorous tone to it. It's very well polished, and I particularly like the dolphin card. I would love to see a larger variety of cards if you continue working on it. Bonus points for the use of cellular automata in the game.
Very interesting and fun to mess about! The "flooding" card constantly screw with my plans to lava the whole planet though. There should be a way to counter the cure for death :)
Is it just a simulator? I donnot seem clear game goals. The mechanic is a bit borning. I've seen your developing video. To calculate gravity of a lot of particles, you can divide the space into grid and count how many particles in the grid. Then you calculate the gravity of each grid as a whole. How to make rocks?
The only problem I had was, that the earth was mostly gone before I had my 15th card. I like your Graphics and your posts about the mechanics. And the sounds were funny as well
this game is unbelievable, probably the biggest entry i've ever witnessed as a competition participant one word: amazing
Great and unique concept, and fit the theme very well. The graphics are cute.
Even if I still don't know what the game is actually about, I really had a lot of fun playing with it ! Many things made me laugh and I completely enjoyed the graphics and sfx. Congratulations, this is very cool.
I can't say I understood the game.
At first I played the windows version and it was completedly messed up. Full of bug. After so much time not understanding what to do I tried web version and realized a lot more about the game. Still, I dropped after getting 2 "water worlds" card.
The game world was well-made, and the simulation was respectable. Graphic was astounding imo, and the humor is apparent.
Overall a decent game, if only I can figure out how to actually play instead of randomly clicking cards...
A very fun toy and a spectacular set of particle systems! I think calling this a card game is pretty far off the mark. Don't get me wrong, this title is better for having them, I'm simply commenting on the fact you labeled this as a card game.
You're missing some kind of event to add ground mass back to the planet. Once I lost my core (which happens after a single play of 'Hollow Earth', especially if there are ICBMs bouncing around), it was impossible to get anything more than a small ball back.
Really fun sandbox, the graphics are really nice and the simulation works great. I don't like the fact that you can get multiple cards of the same type in your hand because it limits the things you can play with until you use them all. Music and sound fx are nice and I'm not sure if it's only me but the game doesn't perform well on my computer in some cases.
Cool game.
However, after flooding the planet and then made it hollow, I was stuck with a ring of water and a lot of zombies.
At the end I thought: "what was this I just played?" And yet I was compelled to try once more
Technically, nice job. At times, it felt a little sluggish (cards whirling around), but otherwise it worked great.
Very well done.
btw. there's nothing wrong with being vegan
this is a very fun game - but became repetitive - awesome game
Very original concept, great visuals too! This can be worked into a really good game. The game is currently not goal-directed. In that case it should obtain its appeal from the artistic value of the world that you create. However, as it is, the world very quickly turns into a hollow water mass, and you no longer get to see land, or volcanoes, or other interesting structures. Even the objects cannot land on a surface anymore. I would suggest changing the dynamics so that the world changes only a bit at a time, so that it obtains more character over time.
This is really fun, a good silly little sandbox. Everything fits together into a good package - the sound, visuals, the humour of the cards, and so on.
For whatever reason, in the downloadable version clicking on the cards didn't do anything - seems like others haven't had that issue so I'm not sure why that would be. (I'm running Win10 if it makes any difference.) Web version worked fine, though.
water world.jpg That was way to good!!! I had a lot of fun with that one!
Really cool concept! Very impressive technically. I had a lot of fun destroying the earth and making people become dolphins but I couldn't tell if I was doing it right or wrong :p.
Impressive game, I like the concept alot. Unfortunatly I took the "water world"-card as the very first and totally screwed my planet right from the start. Most of the following card-effects dropped down to the infinite ocean and never appeared on my planets surface (like any "star coffie" buildings). It would have been cool, to see more of the actual outcome of the different catastrophes except from flickering water with some white and red spots. In my opinion, the effects of some cards should be reduced, to keep a minimum of functioning world intact, at least in the first few minutes.
Appart from that, nice concept, very nice art and sound. Good job!
Pretty weird game, love it! I was not sure what I was doing, but I enjoyed playing! There were some performance issues in the web version. Or probably I need a new PC...
Awesome game, how did you guys even finish this in the limited amount of time? Just amazing, lovely gameplay, awesome graphics. Great music and so polished!
