Neat idea to combine all the drawings in the end.

ryan 2017-05-14 21:46

@pete thanks! If I'd had time to actually make a game I was thinking of adding some procedural world generation and some "AI".

ragnta 2017-05-14 22:06

Great job, I think you can use it at next time for a game :)

rjhelms 2017-05-15 00:42

Maybe not a "game", but a good diversion all the same. It was cool seeing everything come together at the end.

I can definitely see how this was good HTML5/JS practice!

rubyleehs 2017-05-15 01:27

Solid....err..idk what to call this. 100/5 for graphics. You better win 1st place for graphics.

Very unique. Had quite a bit of fun.

Though I drew a fish for the animal. The results were....interesting.

jaenis 2017-05-15 06:09

Haha :D Not a game yes, but who cares! Really liked this kind of "pause" from faster games while reviewing. Very unique! I liked that you did show the world image after drawing all components there. Calming experience.

I think this would be blast for 5 year (or so) old kids! You should make app for this. Really

pandakipu 2017-05-15 10:48

I don't like the art... ho, damn ! that's mine Oo

Seriously, it's a fun concept, like @jaenis said, little kids will love it... maybe because my drawing looks like a 5yo one :D

Nice work.

florian-van-strien 2017-05-15 11:37

Quite a nice idea! I would've liked some sort of custom color picker to pick colors a bit faster with less clicks. Some sort of guidance on what size the animal had to be would also have been nice, I drew a butterfly and it became huge. But otherwise, I liked that you got a nice final drawing in the end. Very inspirational, I could think of lots of ways to expand on this. :) Your procedural world would be a really nice start, for example. If you do expand on this, I would make it so that you get a result a bit quicker, for example by showing the current picture next to the current drawing, especially if you increase the amount of drawings you have to do. Although the surprise in the end was also cool.

This could turn into a fun little app. I don't mind that this might not be a game.

joshuajumbles 2017-05-15 14:31

Cute, clever. Would be charmed ++ with a little injected animation to make the drawing payoff even bigger. Also a color picker, rgb or something. Was too hard for my puny non-web-dev brain to shoot out hex color codes.

Nice work! Thanks for sharing.

I'm only a handful of votes away myself, for my game Tiny Dentist: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/tiny-dentist

You're awesome.

hackingroelz 2017-05-15 20:46

Nice little experiment. Reminded me a bit of Drawn to Life. :)

clegamecoop 2017-05-15 22:33

Very neat! I was surprised to see my horrendous creation at the end. =) It was MUCH better when put together than individually. =) Almost better than my 3y/o niece. Good job!

ryte2byte 2017-05-16 07:00

I am shocked that these comments are not full of pictures! What a shame. Lemme fix that...

Even in Ludum Dare, where stuff I've never thought I'd ever see is commonplace, this one surprised me. I love the idea of there being a whole page of these... Visual Mad Libs. Kudos!

ryan 2017-05-16 07:15

Truly a work of art, @ryte2byte! That sun is much more detailed than anything I could ever draw, and the Pac-Man ghosts are genius for the animals. I should've added a gallery feature to show off the works of art everyone creates.

alexdonazzan 2017-05-16 07:37

it is a funny game :) if you want, you can try my game a also rate him please (i need some rate !!) https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/locker-c-18

Pretty neat tool! I ended up with my animal eating the tree, and producing smoke clouds from it!

This is fun!

MY FINEST HOUR! Really funny thing you have going on here.

I really like the idea. It's simple but it works and it's pretty fun seeing what you end up with in the end.

This makes more fun than it originally looks like :D Nice idea and some NEAT GRAPHICS! Could be a fun experience for local multiplayer.

boorik 2017-05-16 15:20

Yeaaaaah drawing with trackpad, this is art!!!

ld.png

Great idea BTW

behenate 2017-05-16 17:27

This is very funny and innovative game! I had a ton of fun with it!

glitchy-pixel 2017-05-16 17:47

Managed to make my draw as well. Although its not a game it was lovely :D

I'm not going to post my result here, because I didn't drew it nicely. I like the approach of decompising the scene. Your submission revives the old game vs. play discussion, I think it is "play": “Play is the aimless expenditure of exuberant energy” Friedrich Schiller

csanyk 2017-05-18 03:07

It's more of a toy or experiment than a game, but for being just a derp-simple drawing tool, I found it enjoyable to follow the instructions and see what your program did with my scribbles. Well done :)

gael-philippe 2017-05-18 08:52

Very fun to the result at the end ! Nice !

Interesting. I liked how everything came together, but it seems way too easy to draw an animal that gets its head obscured by a cloud. It's times like this that make me wish I owned a drawing tablet.
