insane op game, the rule are so clear and fancy as possible
Hey! Big points for innovation doing a card-game! Simple rules and really fun to play. Big props for thinking outside the box.
@daandruff Many thanks for your kind words.
Can't wait to play this game with my Friend. Taking turn for mulitplayer maybe a good idea!
@coolgunxdd Yep, I had an idea about multiplayer. I think that rules can be easily adjusted for multiplayer.
I normally skip over tabletop entries just because they're too much setup work, but this was very easy to setup so I gave it a go. Once you get the hang of it, it is nice distraction and pretty creative. Video was helpful, if you make another video I'd suggest adding some text captions saying exactly what is happening.
@simplepotential Thanks for playing! I tried to keep setup and rules as simple as possible.
I Will try and play this as a drinking game :0 . Smart thinking, easy to learn.
This was very clever - like @simplepotential i usually skip the tabletop entries but this was so easy to get into. That being said, I played two games and only got 3 checkpoints as my highest score - it seems that unwinnable scenarios arise very easily. It might be fun to put together a simulation and see what the average scores are. That being said, the fact that I am thinking about this game so much means its a really engaging idea! Your video was also super helpful. Well done!
@pbg You probably did something wrong. Player gets an additional move each time after hitting checkpoint. So if you hit the checkpoint, you move again, you can hit another checkpoint, etc... It often happened for me, that I removed all the checkpoints in such way.
Interesting Idea!
OK. Maybe I'm just bad. But here is a sequence of events.
Bird starts at 7.
Draw J. Flap to 10. (J)
Draw 10. Hover to 8. (J,10)
Draw 3. Flap to 11 (J), Hover to 10 (10), Fall to 8. (3)
Draw 10. Flap to 11. (3,10)
Draw 3. Hover to 10 (10). Fall to 8 (3,3)
Draw queen. I'm dead on the next move.
I don't think I could have played this any differently, but I only got 3 points. Getting those two threes killed me, and getting from queen to 3 would have been impossible anyway. Am I doing something wrong?
@pbg As I see, you are doing everything correct. You just was a bit unlucky. Even traveling from queen to 3 is often possible, if you draw some decent cards. But it's my subjective opinion. May be it was me, who was lucky in my games. You are right about simulation, it may help to polish rules even more.
I Drew a grid on MSpaint and used an online deck of cards haha ^^ I think I might have been doing it wrong though, the way I interpreted the rules was like this-
If I'm at 7, When I Flap(move up 3) I can move to 5 or 10 or 15? and, When Hover(down 1) I can move to 1 or 6 or 11?
And then similarly, If I'm at 2, When I Flap(move up 3) I can move to 5 or 10 but not 15?
That's how I was playing, and how I thought it looked like you was playing in the video, but I wasn't 100% sure because I nearly got through half the deck so I felt I might have been doing something wrong haha ^^ great concept!
That's an interesting game. I'll try it soon or later, i don't have a card pack but i can make it work on a computer by just drawing on paint. Thanks for the idea :)
@rickylee Move up by 3 means your position is literally changed by 3 (i.e. 7+3 = 10). The reason why I put cells in 3 rows, because I wanted field to be near the square shape, otherwise it would be too long.
@xpycm oooooh now I get it! I confused myself because in your video at 0:23 my brain made me think you flapped up 3 from 6 to 4 when in fact you fell down from 6 to 4 haha ^^
OMG, I love solo board games! I got 15 finally. Well done! want to play more of your games. Hovering Bird.jpg
Props for making an accessible analog game! It's truly a rarity
I took the liberty to backtrack/branch out my moves, but it turns out the player's choice usually doesn't matter or saves no more than 1 turn. My highscore was 5 cards. I think the game is too RNG right now. Being able to pick from a hand of several cards could make it more strategic. Jokers could be wild cards (place them wherever you want)
I couldn't find the information in the rules, but I played assuming that if a card drops on top of me, I collect it immediately
The idea is really great ! I love the orginality !
This is cool, I didn't expect to see any pen and paper games. It's a very interesting thing to see a game where you have to think and analyze all the things that could happen next, I love that aspect of this. I kinda wonder what the optimal strategy is to have the highest probability of success.
Great to see an analog / p&p game with easy setup! Nice instructions too. Great job!
The physics engine for this game looks super realistic! :P
Jokes aside, the rules are simple and intuitive enough to turn this into small kickstarter project!
Love the originality! Don't think I've ever seen a card game in LD before. I played a few rounds in MS Paint and furthest I got was 16.
When I originally read the rules I thought I knew what the optimal strategy was. After a few rounds, I'm not so sure. Surprising amount of strategic depth.
Hope to see more tabletop games in LD, this was really neat
This was really awesome, with a lot more strategy than I expected. At first I was just always moving towards the closest card, but then I found it better to try and set up lots of cards for the next turn. I ended up getting 13 on one. Made me smile to think of playing Flappy Bird in real life. Well done!
I tracked my position using a 20-sided spindown die rather than a board.
I must have gotten very lucky. I kept drawing straights of cards. I ended up taking eleven cards. (6, 8, 7, Q, 9, 6, Q, 9, 8, 7, A). My mistake was diving all the way down for that Ace. I should have just left it alone and stayed in the middle.
On my second game, I got screwed by shuffle luck right out of the gate. My first card dealt was the card I started on. And then after I collected it, two more cards were dealt that were exactly five above me, plus an Ace. Ouch.
It has a lot of luck to it, but it makes it kind of feel like it could be a casino game like Blackjack. (Never flap on a 6-King split!) In Blackjack, you play odds but can ultimately get screwed by randomness at any time. But that's okay. And it's surprisingly deep for a game where you just move up and down collecting cards.
I really enjoyed this! (enough to tweak with a house rule for future plays) I liked the 3 card rule for a harder/more strategic experience, but allowing one more move after he fourth card is dealt allowed for a more zen experience. I was able to get through almost all 52 cards with that rule. I am excite to see if I can get a clean ending where I gather the last checkpoints with the final move. I will add this to my repertoire of solitaire games! Thanks! <3
@kevin-du I also love solo board games, but have not any. 15 is a nice result, thanks for playing!
Cool that you made a card game ! The idea is very original :)
Interesting game, it relies heavily on luck but it makes it accessible for everyone. GG ^^
Physical games are always fun to try. Using a standard card deck is a good idea to make it accessible, but I feel like 1-14 is a bit too a large range for the other limits (3 cards, limited moves). My record was 8 (but also one game where I only got one card).
