LD51 — Every 10 seconds

Destroy Blocks by mdotedot 2022-10-03T18:12:18Z

YIIPEEEE ~ lmao, great work! Those are some speedy coding hands, and they paid off big time. The 10 seconds somehow gives a perfect stress balancer.

Sheeple by Jonathan Holm 2022-10-03T17:43:58Z

Really cool! You have no idea how trippy it is, trying to run off screen, and suddenly, you end up running back to the summon circle. The sheep twist was excellent, too!

Ten Seconds A Demon by gord10ahmet 2022-10-03T15:27:18Z

When you possess that one guy who was about to reach the Exit --- the feels, man. Nice work! Short, sweet, and a brilliant fresh take on the theme.

Tile Hopper by Szyfr 2022-10-03T13:32:01Z

Very forgiving movement and controls system - and nice Squid Game -style chopping off different Tiles. The panic that ensues when you have to start double or triple hopping is really fun (see image below)! Glad that you managed to push something out despite feeling ill. NOT LIKE THIS.PNG

Lab Rat by fnelix 2022-10-03T22:12:22Z

Lol - the name of Level 8, while playing at 12 midnight, hits hard. Super impressive work! I'm not going to echo everyone else here, it is pretty late, and my brain needed the whole 10 seconds of processing time per bottle. Only issue that I encountered was when repeating Level 3 - where on my second go, the "E" to pick up wouldn't work anymore. Otherwise, fantastic effort!

Drum Dance Showdown by cyberfrank 2022-10-03T17:54:45Z

Really fun! This is definitely a Jam Gem, I can very well see it becoming an expanded official game. Masterful work with the music, too! Only nitpick is to add the ability to Restart from your previous move, instead of the beginning again.

Satellite commander by Henrik Ganard 2022-10-03T19:49:03Z

Through experimentation, I found a sweet spot location. My challenge to everyone else is to try hug the planet - close enough that even the bravest satellites dare not venture near you. (I put a pic of that strat here). Great game, steep learning curve, takes a while to get used to the velocity of space. Only recommendation is to add some sort of hardlock - I flew so far away, that I was basically lost forever. Anyways, record is 53.82GB . Great work!sweet spot strat.png

Coupled Explorers by Noam Zeise 2022-10-03T17:10:31Z

This, for me, was an unintentional rage game. I was determined to see it through to the end. The later levels require big brain strategy, and forethought as to where each character would be able to land for the future. Tough, but good! (Proof I saw it through to the end)i survived.PNG

Ludum Dare by She Wrote 2022-10-03T16:13:23Z

Noice! Big plot twist at the end. My meta is to cycle through each tool with the middle mouse, and play it by ear to see if it works out. Interesting mechanic with the computer glitch / freezing.

Time To Live: 10 by Lancival 2022-10-04T08:42:20Z

Nice work! Just took me a while to get the hang of the wall sticking. That rush for the battery in the final few seconds really ramps up the pressure! Overall, super decent. The icing on the cake would be explaining the movement system in greater detail, but hey, it's a Game Jam - so this would be classified as a bit of a luxury feature.

Acid Rain by osh.studio 2022-10-03T13:17:11Z

Super cool! I had some resolution lag on the HTML when playing full screen, so played in minimized screen. Nice platforming, sick artwork (especially the double jump powerup animation), and great motivation to play through to the end!

Lighthouse by rickylee 2022-10-03T21:10:00Z

Great work! The art, music, and atmosphere are incredible - really encapsulated the 'lost in a dark ocean' feel. The lighthouse beacon gave me a great view of what was to my left and right, but didn't help too much regarding what was straight in front of me. Relied on the lightning just as heavily. Overall, amazing effort!

Betrayed by greenphox 2022-10-03T12:49:16Z

I really appreciate the somber feel (with the B/W theme, subtle sfx, and background music). You're always kept on edge, especially with the drifty-ness of the movement, and the fact that you are also susceptible to the bullets. Nice game!

3 minutes in hell by Castitatis 2022-10-03T21:32:35Z

Badass game! Great work for 48 hours, and the idea of having to stand in the powerup vicinity the moment the next 10 sec rotation comes around is genius. The music beats per minute sync as well was the icing on the cake. The difficulty is punishing, but fun.

Killer Colour by FootLettuce 2022-10-04T08:25:46Z

Thank you all for the top quality feedback! I really appreciate it! @Senso @GameJMunk @pincushion @vhalenn @cameron-borthwick @ale @thedashdude @lustdante

I'm duplicating the original game file, and working on a polished version for my uni showcase. I'll be taking all of your suggestions into account, especially the recurring ones like camera & sprite jitter, more responsive movement controls, music & sfx, and better animal click accuracy.

Many thanks!

Soul of Seasons by shimmerscale 2022-10-03T14:22:30Z

Great work! Took a bit before I started recognizing the environmental obstacles, but once I did, my progress flew. Some tricky parkour for the leftmost piece, so be prepared!

Collect in 10 by dUmMy432 2022-10-03T17:34:51Z

Dude, it starts just fine! Nothing to worry about, the game is actually pretty swag. Good thinking with putting the timer and required colour onto the player's sprite. Only issue I ran into was that the text on the start screen was a bit hard to read (nitpick), and that occasionally, the mushroom you needed would be 'sandwiched' in an impossible position (I did realize that you don't need to collect all the mushrooms tho). Overall, a swag effort.sand 1.PNG

What's Under The Teapot? by thegamearchitect 2022-10-03T18:21:05Z

Well done! Too slow, imo. A bit choppy, otherwise I enjoyed the unique concept, and selection of varied objects. Otherwise, good work!

Sunfall by chemicalcrux 2022-10-03T14:51:00Z

I had @vhalenn 's issue - but only with the Jagged Gauntlet section. Overall, badass game! An end condition would be the icing on the cake, but the game is already great as is.

Blobbbert: 10 Second Navigator by Xorel 2022-10-03T21:51:45Z

That last level had me on the mother of all goosechases - well done! Great game, and clever interpretation of the 10 second theme into a solid movement mechanic. I'd add an optional mode which toggles on a crosshair for where your moves would end up, as I found myself using the mouse crosshair to preplan visually. Otherwise, solid!

Watch Your Step by red-stake 2022-10-03T15:07:42Z

Holy frick, this was fun. Only suggestion would be to make the cursor a cyan, as sometimes it can get hidden amidst the rain of bullet death. Otherwise, solid effort!

LD55 — Summoning

From Hell's Heart by randomhuman 2024-04-20T14:33:54Z

Super addictive and fun! This game has a nice learning curve and is extremely fun to try and speed run. The art style is a nice mix of cute and DEMON, and the fiery reddish game theme helps the human soldiers and scientists to stand out more with their white and grey colours, making them nice targets as I turn them into red splodges of gore. The movement is butter-smooth, and the controls mixing summoning and shooting are straightforward.

I didn't experience any of the level boundary glitches that the others describe above. The Windows version I played worked flawlessly! The camera did shake a bit here and there, but I think that was either because I was aiming outside the map, or because I shot too many fireballs. I wouldn't have the same problem if I was conservative with and limited my fireballs.

Amazing work! **I was able to find a whole roomful of demon bois. Then we danced and shot each other. 10/10!**

Your game is also very memeable!

Worst Day in Hell by Local Minimum 2024-04-19T14:27:32Z

(I played the HTML and Windows versions)

This game has a great, unique, and dark personality, backed by some awesome art and clever sound effects! The aesthetic is gorgeous!

The Windows version runs smoothly, but seems to spawn way more bee swarms / gas clouds than the HTML version, making them almost impossible to dodge. The HTML version for me was a slower frame rate, but I was able to make it WAY further through the maze and kill lots of evil Bruja rats.

It took me a while to understand that the Windows version's maze forces you to look at this text on the side wall, completely disorienting me and throwing off my internal compass multiple times each run. The HTML version is much better for playing.

(The writing on the left, the clouds on the right) Mazes.png

Very cool game! I recommend the HTML over the Windows.

Worst Day in Hell by Local Minimum 2024-04-19T20:32:10Z

It was this section here, where that tile always changed my view position whenever standing on it. The game is super fun and gorgeous! I hope that I can be at this level in Ludum Dare one day. I just found the navigation a bit tricky because of the forced view position changing, and because there's always a lot of clouds meaning you will always be hit at least once. I had a lot of fun learning the map and killing the rats! I hope this helps for understanding.

Loyalty by Erik Tate 2024-04-19T13:08:24Z

I played this five days back, and revisited today. Had to learn the hard way that the bark could also be used to stop the necromancer in his tracks. I'm super glad that you've included that now up by the title! Excellent game with a great look, smooth movement system, and simple but brilliant mechanics. The stretching using the dog's spine as a bridge is total genius. Incredible work!

Sage & Summonion by JuicyBrucey 2024-04-19T15:02:26Z

Please make this a full release on Steam! For a game jam, the polish and spell combinations on this are insane! Both the most creative and fun game I have played thus far this Ludum Dare - like being able to shoot fire arrows, or scan the wall itself as a quick cheap way to unlock the rock spell. Would be cool for the minions you summon to fuse together into new variants, but that's just my preference.

I made it super far in... until my unwavering Goblin line was breached and in a mad panic, **I detonated myself in a semi-nuclear explosion. 10/10**

Glyphwalker by Papaver 2024-04-19T21:50:19Z

Super fun and incredibly wholesome! The puzzles are well-planned and decently tricky, and the color scheme paired with the piano are literally a perfect combination! I completed the whole game, though my attempt was more of a speedwalk than a speedrun. I agree with @fabula-rasa about the ghosties dancing in formation and the little heart-shaped level - it added so much character!

Your game is also VERY memeable. Well done!!

Throw Hands!! by FootLettuce 2024-04-16T19:30:46Z

@ellaris Thank you for the excellent feedback!

• There's no proper endgame screen due to time crunch. Rather, it stops spawning enemies after completing Wave 16. But I totally agree: there definitely should be some confirmation when the game finishes.

• For the spamming, you're throwing hands! Spam away! However, you have a good point. Originally, I wanted the player to be able to perform specific combos when the enemies flashed yellow, like Up-Right-Down-Down-Down. Get the combo right, and you could throw that enemy at the other ones. That would also have given the spamming a proper reason.

Throw Hands!! by FootLettuce 2024-04-16T19:34:12Z

@dandee @bex2499 Thank you for your positivity! I am honoured to have your reviews! I shall teach my ways! (Note to self: triple the rat and turkey spawn rates)

Throw Hands!! by FootLettuce 2024-04-16T19:38:39Z

@thefruckets The legends themselves! Thank you for your feedback - I too enjoy converting hordes of enemies into grass to be mowed (the lawn mower being Dwarven fists, of course). Perhaps I'll lean a bit more into that, like Vampire Survivors. Would be super sick!

Throw Hands!! by FootLettuce 2024-04-16T19:44:34Z

@myceliummushroom ♩ ♬ "Let me break it down for you, Mark." ♫ ♪♪ ** The horde starts dancing menacingly **

The crabs are strictly for Dwarf punching purposes... but I'll mail a few over to you for the rave!

Throw Hands!! by FootLettuce 2024-04-19T15:43:17Z

@kristinamay @frogman Thank you for the positivity! I did opt out of the audio category on submission day, and I credited my source both in-game and in the YouTube video. I've been huge fan of Two Steps From Hell since 2019, and highly recommend them! *Music fit for an iron-clad rum-filled dwarf!!*

I agree with the IJKL spamming - I could do something like adding fatalities, where the order would matter, and maybe the player would be given some temporary immunity to do the exact input. That'd give better incentive for the buttons - I'll see what I can do. I will defs keep that in mind for when I polish this as a post Ludum Dare project!

Throw Hands!! by FootLettuce 2024-04-19T16:01:21Z

@denvil Good point! Enemies should stagger and react to the impact of the punches, maybe even multiple times super quickly to emphasize the PUNCH ONSLAUGHT! I could also give them some stun immunity or something, after they exit their stunned phase temporarily to up their threat. I'll send the dwarves down into the caves to test these ideas, and use them to make a cool post Ludum Dare version!

Throw Hands!! by FootLettuce 2024-04-20T12:40:54Z

@local-minimum Damn, I didn't realize it could be tagged. Thank you for the advice - saved my butt! I'll remember to do this going forward from now on.

Throw Hands!! by FootLettuce 2024-04-20T12:53:28Z

@themaskedman The legend himself - thank you so much! Your comment LITERALLY made my morning!

Having combat sound effects and validation after you win (maybe even a full-screen splash art thing for the start, and like a true end or death end) are excellent ideas. Would be super cool too if the enemies made sound effects to respond to being punched as well, like a "GWAWCK" or something cool! My dwarf boi will be shredding through enemies as if he were playing death metal!

I am planning on making a post Ludum Dare version with more polish so I can put this in a portfolio. Your positivity is exactly what I needed, and I'll put your advice to good use. Thank you for the feedback!!

The Summoning Goes On by Inkweeper 2024-04-19T15:35:55Z

**Congrats! You've both entertained me AND made me hungry!**

Super fun game with a great learning curve. The difficulty ramps up fast enough to rival the Speedforce and outpace most Star Wars ships travelling at light speed, but DAMN is it fun! I would argue that that actually adds more to the gameplay.

Near the end when the screen was super full, I would valiantly hurl myself into the fast food horde in an act of desperation for one last buffet.

Brilliant work!

Summoner's Dungeon by PoesDraughtnDoos 2024-04-19T13:35:28Z

For your first platformer, this is extremely impressive! Super well done! Also are you South African by chance?

Anyways, the controls are very powerful, so you have to be very precise with the jumping. But after you get the hang of the movement, this becomes a very fun game to try and speed run!

I agree with @karln and @sariiger - edit your page here to include the controls. **Movement using arrow keys, and jumping using spacebar**. The fact that you can **kill the rats by jumping on them, and the dark spirits by running into them**, too. Your boss is an absolute menace! I am determined to defeat him!

Mothman earthbending is now canon, and I love it! @raees my go-to combo was the (up, right, down, left) crush, which let me get super far. It's simultaneously the best and most stressful feeling ever when you have a huge fall and manage to barely save yourself literally at the bottom of the screen. Nice work! Mothman.PNG I N . T H E . Amazon-Void by Bex2499 2024-04-16T14:27:52Z

Excellent Amazon working conditions sim - the only difference is the employees get paid. Great game, especially considering it's only your first Jam! Runs buttery smooth, like the nail gun rounds entering my skull. The learning curve takes sacrificing a few employees, but once you get the hang of the jumping mechanics, it's incredibly fun! The longer runs get wacky, but the enemy variety keeps things fresh and constantly threatening. Highly recommended!! Best Run.PNG (Image of millions of bullets flying across the screen, and myself cowering in the corner)

Amazon-Void by Bex2499 2024-04-16T17:31:20Z

@dandee The sheer will and brute force determination of a minimum wage Amazon worker, that's how! My second-best run was at 370, but then everything after that was below 200.

The Dank Sorceress by TheMaskedMan 2024-04-19T21:12:50Z

THIS IS ABSOLUTELY EPIC AND BADASS! Your character designs are super cool, and the gameplay is addictively fun, with a straightforward learning curve. I read the comment you wrote about the "summoning tie", and that solved all my confusion. I disagree with the others who complain about the enemy variety - I think what you've done is perfect for a compo. More variety sounds like the type of thing for the jam instead.

The things I like most are the game's rock-on metal personality, and the fact that it is so accessible. EVERYTHING has a quirky description, like the templars being "THE melee unit" or the archers actually being able to hit their shots (lil Stormtrooper roast lmao).

Excellent game! **I now have a new fear of unhinged women wearing masks! 10/10**

Food Quest by Topnaan 2024-04-16T16:02:02Z

When they said, "Let him cook", you guys COOKED! A really creative and well-rounded pizza game, topped off with stylized art and delivered with a cheesy personality. I can only imagine how crazy this would be with even more combos. For now, though, landmine pizza for the win! Cook.png (A chef establishing dominance)

Cardmageddon by TheFruckets 2024-04-16T19:12:48Z

Seriously well done, guys! You were very ambitious - it's a huge map with a wide variety of enemies and spells, but you managed to pull it off! Your special effects, animations, and models are superb, and the overall card-to-3D idea is genius!

My doctor has medically diagnosed me with "Skill Issue". For that reason, I agree with @raees about a card indicator, but only for showing one card at a time (probably the closest). My only big glitch was that every playthrough I did, the enemies attacked me facing backward for some reason, so I now have trauma of giant looming zombie cheeks.

Cardmageddon by TheFruckets 2024-04-17T14:54:28Z

Edit: That was a quick fix! You guys solved the glitch in less than a day and uploaded the fix to Itch! I am super impressed!! Beautiful game, and clearly a hard-working team!

Oh No My Books! by uthie 2024-04-16T16:40:57Z

Insanely fun game with a simple mechanic. I lost track of time trying to break my 87 second record, when I suddenly realized almost an hour had already passed. You deserve to feature on the front page - outstanding work!

I agree on the demon face - I've seen it send other objects flying to Heaven more times than I can count. It has a habit of eating objects when spawned on them, and the demon faces seem to overlap with each other instead of colliding. Literal demons. I chuck them in a designated spot on the far right side of the lava.

Summoning Jit by MysticYuv 2024-04-16T17:48:51Z

MOSH PIT! MOSH PIT! MOSH PIT! A fun and smooth game with multiple difficulty modes and combat environments. Shooting worked perfectly for me, and I enjoyed how the white medic capsule and blue speed capsule were carried around - as if equipment rather than pickups, which is swag!

I did have a glitch with movement, where I would go supersonic and zoom fast enough to put the Speedforce to shame. This only lasted around 4 seconds, and was pretty rare. I'm guessing it has something to do with the RigidBody physics reacting to other RigidBodies or BoxColliders.
