Thank you very much for your entry - I hope you had great fun making it

Great little concept  Nicely executed and a very clean-ish interface :thumbsup_tone1:

I hope you'll drop by mine and give it a spin

An interesting concept, it certainly started to feel like I was simply pressing the cards as they came up without fully understanding the meaning, so perhaps a little more in game explanation as play will give a little more meaning to the cards, but overall I've enjoyed the simplistic feel to the game :)

Big respect for making a card game for the Compo, that can't have been easy! The combination of the font and black text on dark blue background you used for the Condition, Damage display made it pretty hard to read (minor gripe!) I liked the element of testing the courage of the player, whether to go deeper or surface to collect your money. Great effort. :)

I like this idea of blending FTL and a card game  Font size was a bit too small on my screen, but I guess it should be fixable by tweaking the Canvas Scaler options

I didn't really understand what the different resource types were for. I mostly mashed the explore + identify combo, and getting rid of the maintenance cards, surfacing as soon as my hand was all identify cards because I couldn't perform any more actions. This got repetitive pretty quickly.

strailks 2021-04-28 21:21

I had a lot of fun with the sound effects, I thought they fit very nicely. The game was surprisingly very fun as I found myself wanting to continue on to get the dolphin class submarine. Very nicely done overall.

Nice idea with a card game. I text turned out very small on my laptop, made it hard to read.

UI was simple to use, however the font size was a little small. Nice game though!

saintchristopher777 2021-04-30 23:31

Fun game! Wasn't quite clear on some of the game mechanics though. I couldn't tell if there was any difference between the resources to collect. I also couldn't see any reason to ever "rest" - maybe if you got a locked hand?

Enjoyed it though. Would be great to expand on it with more upgrades to purchase and some sort of "expedition objectives" or something!

crazymouse 2021-05-01 14:45

nice game, but the font scale is really small and it's quite hard to read :(

darthone 2021-05-02 01:46

I really liked the idea of your game! I think the game pace was a bit slow, but there is definitely something here to continue to flesh out. I think the audio sounds could be a bit softer/smoother given how frequently they are played

Wow doing a card game for an LD compo entry is really impressive! I like the FTL-like approach with random encounters.

I think I understand the mechanics pretty well, but it still seems like doing any upgrades (or even buying a new sub) will take ages. I did 2 expeditions, one where I got to level 10 before surfacing, and another where I got to level 8. For both those runs, my total money was like $660 and a new sub costs $100,000? Maybe I am missing something.

I like the risk/reward of taking a rest. You know you'll lose 2 hp, but you can maximize the resources on the current level, at least, that's how I interpreted it. Nice game!

Nice game. Interesting concept and I'm always a big fan of card games. One possible idea would be adding some sort of cost for playing the cards. I was able to pretty much play every card in my hand every turn until I had 3 identify cards and got stuck. If they had a cost, the player would need to way the different options and only play the cards that help the most in their current situation: e.g. if the sub was quite broken, maybe prioritize a maintenance card over exploring. Also, maybe a redraw mechanic for a small price when you get stuck at 3 identify cards. Nevertheless, great entry!

@purpledartfrog Thank you. @adamr The instructions pages were written very last minute. If I develop it further I'll look at highlighting the effects of the cards.

harmadillo 2021-05-03 16:23

@agrdev I'll check out the Canvas Scaler options. It's not something I've look at in Unity before.

@extar @incal @0x89a @crazymouse - Font size and readability look to be an issue a few people had. Definitely an area for em to work on.

harmadillo 2021-05-03 16:33

@strailks - thank you. Glad you enjoyed it.

@saintchristopher777 - The different resources were going to need different Investigation cards to collect. Also to be worth different amount. But didn't get that finsihed.

harmadillo 2021-05-03 16:40

@darthone Thank you. The audio is a bit rudimentary. An area I need to expand my skills in.

@nick-rafalski The price was chosen rather arbitrarily and is too high. Especially with a game jam you want people to get to see all the game.

harmadillo 2021-05-03 16:43

@likirus I did have plans for more complex resource collection options of the different resource types but cut those due to lack of time.

jgur 2021-05-04 07:05

During my first play through I did not quite understand the mechanics, but after experimenting I soon figured out how things worked. I do feel a little more explanation or tutorial would be useful for new players. The idea is nice and I think with a little more time it could be more fun and enjoyable. Other than that good work!

tompendergrass 2021-05-04 07:36

Hey there, not bad! I also made a game about diving deep in a submarine. It seemed very simple at first, but then when I realized how the cards compliment each other, I got hooked enough to start using the Save feature, lol. Nicely thought out, the only reason I stopped playing was because upgrading the condition on the submarine did not increase the condition from 10 while on an Expedition.

fredripper2077 2021-05-04 12:02

Didnt understant at first but very nice! Fits the theme well aswell.

cheesepencil 2021-05-05 00:10

I definitely didn't understand what I was doing, but it's a very cool concept! Stay dry lol

waibiwaibi 2021-05-09 13:47

Very fun game. It seems that there are a lot of games related to the deep sea. The gameplay of this game makes me shine, that is, I feel that the audio effects can be designed well, and the others are very good!

soundgnome 2021-05-14 20:01

This has the bones of a really great game. Took me a few dives to properly understand the mechanics and work out how to optimize my moves, but it was actually satisfying figuring all that out. I wanted more upgrade options and a deck building element but the core mechanic is a lot of fun. Nice work!
