Big fan of the dog animations. Would be cool to see more levels and variation but the core loop is fun. I felt the length of the level was a bit punishing but adding extra speed/energy/stamina is a huge ask.

@kierogi thanks for playing :)
error.png there is an error that don't let me play :cry:
@campalans yeah embedding godot 4 in this page seems to be broken - the [itch link](https://thaprofesional.itch.io/dont-read-all-about-it) should work.
So, is it even possible to prevent that first paper from being delivered? Love the art!
@ShatteredMindofBob I don't think so - ran out of time to refine the level should have given the delivery kid more lead in space / time.
Thanks and thanks for playing :)
feedbacks: * nice parallax and drawings, also dog mouvements * I cannot stop the delivery guy before he deliver one newspaper, is it intended? I mean, can we stop him before the first journal?
Nice game, hooked me in until I win!
The graphics, music and animations make for a very cozy package. The two highlights for me were the brief but funny graphic explaining the dog's motivation in the beginning and the animation for the dog stopping, adding that extra stop animation is not something a lot of people would have done but you put extra flair on the movement by doing it. I just wish it was longer and that it was possible to stop him from delivering that first paper hahah. The name of the game is also really funny. Good job!
I loved the concept of being the dog chasing the delivery guy, just sad it was such a short game. Congratulations nonetheless, thanks for the game.
@sdelay thanks :) It's less intended and more I ran out of time to refine the level - I think I should have placed the dog more centrally and given the delivery kid more lead in time.
@jakobthequizguy thanks heaps - I feel like the extra animations help make the movement feel significantly more responsive and they don't take too much extra time to draw and animate. I wrote the code to allow for more levels and I created more assets but ran out of time to actually make the levels.
@lex thanks heaps and thanks for playing :)
Very interesting idea, it's more like an anti-delivery. I jsut wish there are more level to play :)
@nekowei thanks and thanks for playing :)
The presentation is very charming. I like the art style and the backstory on the tutorial screen. The animations of the dog are well done and make it feel surprisingly good to control. The music is also beautiful - truly brought a tear to my eye. It's just a shame that there isn't more to the game.
@veralos thanks so much :D
Loved the dog animation and sounds, and the woof music, even if I'm a little frustrated that I can't do better than 2/4. Oh! And really liked the menu with the backstory.
@tempestCognitor thanks and thanks for playing.
Nice artwork, fun to play.
Very interesting concept. You basically made my dog's dream scenario ;) I would have loved to see a few more levels, even some simple procedural increase like adding one additional mailman per level and see how far you can get before you are overwhelmed would have been nice.
Funny concept it finish at once. I lost 4 times won 1 overall very cool game.
Would be cool if you made the dog bark sfx work on key pressed, and use it with the bite for combo!
Cute idea. I like the dog sprite and the parts in the music where the dog barks and growls along. The bush is very in the way and also sometimes the dog dies on start, but those aren't major issues.
@obe-dot and @yoddaa thanks and thanks for playing :)
@likirus yeah I wish I had an extra couple of hours to add more levels in and fine-tune things a bit more. Thanks for playing.
@ardorugus thanks for playing and that's a great idea - if I'd thought of it during dev. I would have chucked it in for sure.
@zefphyer thanks and thanks for playing. I chucked the bushes in last minute and didn't have time to make sure both characters can move past them smoothly I think I needed to tweak the collision response a bit. Didn't run into the dog dying bug but I'm guessing there's a race condition I missed thanks for letting me know.
Couldn't actually figure out what to do... It seemed that I lost regardless of what I did and didn't do. Is this intentional?
I did like what I saw ... so my lack of intelligence didn't affect the score :wink:
@purpledartfrog nah it's not intentional it *should* be winnable. Getting run over or the kid making it to the end of the level is a loss, stopping the kid early's a win.
Number of papers delivered was meant to be a fun scoring thing.
I definitely didn't explain it well - was hoping to do it through level design but ran out of time. I think putting in more cues would have been a good idea.
Thanks so much for playing really appreciate it and appreciate the feedback :)
No worries... it seems there is always "something" in the projects... mine had similar types of issues :smile:
A good game. That dog's mouth is really big! I think I'll stay away from my neighbor's dog when I go downstairs to get the newspaper from now on.
@yuriscat thanks for playing :D
Interesting idea though it is incredibly short. It didn't seem like it was possible to win with less than two deliveries made and was also a bit confusing at the start when I had no idea what I was chasing, having the delivery person start from the same side as you with a gap before the first house probably would have remedied both of those I think. Also, it would have been neat if there were multiple delivery people constantly trying to deliver stuff from both directions and maybe you have a certain number of lives or something while you're trying to stop them instead of just one go at it.
The animation, especially of the dog, is really good. I liked the style of the backgrounds. The game play is rather sparse. A longer chase or multiple targets maybe.
@asilvers thanks for playing :) Yeah I needed a bit more time to work on level design to try make it more intuitive. The plan was multiple delivery kids after the first level but never got there. I didn't think of having the one level with a "keep playing as long as you stay alive" thing going on I think that's a great idea.
@harmadillo thanks heaps and thanks for playing :) Yeah I spent my last couple of hours making it prettier rather than fixing the gameplay..
A nice take on the theme! Let this pupper get his revenge. :>
The artstyle looks great, I love the intro comic at the instruction screen
It is a bit difficult to judge how far you have to be to bite, but it does get easier with practice. Eventually I managed to get him with just one paper delivered. I found two interesting "bugs": - I managed to attack the paper person right at the end of the level, so the end screen tells me I lost and they got away, even though the dog clearly achieved his goal: draai.png - whenever I start the game, the paper person starts their movement on the lawn, only moving down once they hit a flowering shrub; on every restart after the game is launched they move on the street only. draai2.png The music is good. Simple, but with some tension, fitting for the theme of the game. The dog barks and growls were a nice touch, too. :)
Running around with the dog felt really good. Would have loved a bit more level and more to run around and do but defeating the paper boy was very satisfying!
@lcstark thanks so much for playing, the nice words and the feedback :) Also thanks heaps for letting me know the bugs I think I know the cause of each but I feel like it might be in bad faith to fix them now as they aren't game breaking. If I keep working on this I'll make sure I fix them before tackling anything else. Even if I don't they're good lessons for next time.
@cavedens thanks and thanks for playing. I would have liked more time to make more level - still need to keep working on my time allocation / where I focus.
@thaprofesional definitely understand that. That is one of the main reasons I like to do game jams. It helps me with time management and editing projects due to the amount of time :)
Sweet short game! I wish it was longer and had more paperboys there to bark at. :) I enjoyed the graphics and music a lot, they have some consistent vibe. I think the same idea could be even more fun if you could follow the paperboy and had to bark just as he's about to throw his newspaper, so he shudders and drops the paper instead of throwing it. :D Most importantly, dog control feels natural and fun!
Here's my playthrough, if you're interested: https://youtu.be/4Sq55sXnzno
@yngvarr thanks for playing, the nice words, and especially for chucking up the play through. First time I've really watched someone playing one of my games found it weird but really appreciate it :D
Dig the idea of having the paperboy drop papers if the dog threatens him at the right time. I'll add it to the wish list of mechanics to try out if I keep working on the game.
Cool compo game! Is it possible to get 0/4 score? I think 2/4 is the best possible hehe
Short but sweet. Nice animation and artstyle! The music is really good, had to listen to it for a bit after playing :D -- love how the dog "sings" along :D.
@geck0 thanks for playing :) Some people got 1/4. Unfortunately I didn't design it well enough to be able to stop all the papers.
@tygrak thanks so much and thanks for playing. Music's the area I feel I need to work on the most so it means a lot you enjoyed it :D
Fun game for what it is! Graphics are nice. I wish there was more to the gameplay like differents levels etc. I was sad I couldn't get lower than 1/4
