Well, that was stressful *and* depressing. That's not a bad thing, mind you.

likirus 2021-10-04 10:15

@zarkonnen I was contemplating until the end whether I wanted to add a win condition at all. I ended up implementing one, but it would have been more realistic to keep adding more pollution sources and create a runaway effect.

appoxgames 2021-10-04 14:55

Interesting concept, but I never figured out how to save the fish? Is the idea to save them from the fishing boats or are they doomed?

jharler 2021-10-04 15:58

This is a sad game. Too much pollution. It was well implemented though and a good fit for the theme.

likirus 2021-10-04 20:18

Thanks for your feedback.

@appoxgames I'm afraid the fish are doomed. But that's an interesting idea. Maybe a fish would change direction when you click on it, so it wouldn't end up in a net or on a hook.

@jharler Ya. I probably went a bit too heavy on the realistic side and not enough on the fun side.

python-b5 2021-10-07 11:18

Interesting concept, but I didn't find it super fun - I found just spamming different items around ended up working the best. Good job, though!

r3dleg 2021-10-07 11:34

Wow! Well done! I mean, that you can`t do anything vs the boats is hard, but i loved the setting and the execution . It seems rather precisely execute. I encountered only one minor bg when i was unable to place seome creatures. But clicking right fixes it every time. Plus: i love fish. WELL DONE!

megamasterx 2021-10-07 12:25

Good concept and a solid compo entry overall. You did good with the time you had! With some better design management, I think this would be better but for a game built from the ground up I enjoyed it! Congrats on your entry

likirus 2021-10-07 14:22

Thanks for the feedback!

@python-b5 Yea, I also mostly focussed on only a few items when I was playing it myself. Balancing with very limited time is tough and making every item unique and creating a balance so that all of them are required just wasn't possible near the end of the event. Maybe I should have only created 6 items or so and spend more time on balancing them.

@r3dleg It might have been an actual bug, but I also noticed that the feedback when you cannot place an item because of limited money or bad environmental conditions wasn't great. I probably should have added an error sound effect in addition to the red error message, so it's more obvious that a placement has failed. And I also ran out of time to change the color of the selected item next to the mouse to red and green dynamically to indicate whether a placement at the current position is possible.

Great compo entry, a bit unbalanced but fun to play nonetheless. I enjoyed it but lost easily after more boats came and oil drilling platforms were set up. Also nice environmental message, earned you greater mood points.

plomeg 2021-10-07 18:52

I wish the pollution mechanism was more explicit. It felt like the game was too easy and all of a sudden pollution sky-rocketed and ended my game despite me placing anything i could.

fabioecco 2021-10-08 02:06

I dont have any clue about how to beat it. lmao I did play it way longer than I expected. Good job! Edit: nobody cares about plants, breed turtles then dolphins, they're like cockcroaches, can live under heavy radiation and without food.

likirus 2021-10-08 07:55

@jose-bonilla @plomeg @fabioecco Thanks for your comments. The game can be won if the pollution is low enough after 5 minutes. However, it's quite difficult by design (but it is possible to win). I very strongly considered not implementing a win condition at all and just letting the pollution exponentially increase until everybody loses. It would have been very realistic, because the world doesn't seem to be able to figure out its pollution problem either.

emaigualmc2-art 2021-10-08 16:16

Incredible work! It amazes me when a single person creates something like that, I think that the concept and art in general can be worked on and improved much more, to do it! good job!

loveapplegames 2021-10-08 21:08

Interesting concept! It's great to have so many types of organism with different behaviours. Clicking on the garbage got kind of annoying after awhile. I never figured out how to reduce the pollution once it starts increasing. Sometimes I could not place certain organisms, such as the turtle.

quoc 2021-10-09 08:11

Really interesting game. Cool what you achieved alone, but like the @python-b5 said it wasn't so fun to play but still good job :)

pwnzer 2021-10-10 21:11

Wasn't a fan of the text font but I was a fan of the message of the game. Yet at the same time it wasn't necessarily fun. Which I imagine probably wasn't the goal anyway given the depressing topic. If I had one actual complaint it would be the repetitive music and later the dolphin sounds, they got a bit annoying pretty quickly. Overall, I rated this game rather highly.

piper-thompson 2021-10-10 21:33

what visually happens on the screen is fun. just clicking on stuff unfortunately isn't as much fun ... good job getting all of this don in time, though

johnlee-cooper 2021-10-10 22:22

I built a tower of coral that rose up out of the sea.

Also I really like the audio for oil rigs appearing.

cookie-dragon 2021-10-10 22:50

Ah, wasn't sure what to do with the radiation. It was entertaining

andopp 2021-10-10 23:09

Very interesting to watch your timelapse; a glimpse into how different game makers have different ways of working. You made almost the entire game with rectangles before you added graphics! Cool :D

The game is well made, with a lot of content. I found it a bit hard to understand how to eliminate pollution in the end, asI felt I was removing all garbage and building stuff like crazy, to no avail. Anyway, good job! :)
