The game looks and sounds amazing, but the point of the game but the point was hard to get, because text in the ground was hard to read.

barelyevengames 2021-04-26 19:02

The game looks and feels really great. I'm like 99% sure though that the game didn't know how many things were actually there though lol maybe I'm just dumb. But great job!

dikopr0s 2021-04-26 19:02

Really liked tutorial during gameplay, and initial cutscene. But the text might be more readable.

pndaa 2021-04-26 20:33

@monninen @dikopr0s I will try to make the starting text more readable. Just in case the same explanations are in this page.

@barelyevengames Sometimes it is not the total count but the count of enemies you killed. Also the "ghost" are telling you which enemy type you need to count.

thebmxeur 2021-04-26 22:25

I had some difficulty matching ghost with enemies, I think it was because I don't have enough time to see the ghost before needing to shoot enemies (maybe the transparency throw me off a little bit too). And as already said, it wasn't clear if I needed to count how many enemies or how many I killed.

mobiledev 2021-04-29 18:54

Really liked the visuals and the simple controls. The concept looks easy, but in practice it is a bit challenging try to memorize stuff while you're blowing things up. Really liked the game, nice job.

ubershmekel 2021-05-01 06:29

I always knew counting is hard. But not knowing whether I need to count kills or sightings was even harder. The art by itself was cool, and I would have loved to experience all these cool visual effects and different bullet stylees. The synth wave vibes you created were amazing! I'm just so bad at counting I died at -300 and got too frustrated to keep playing. Still it was a lot of fun to look at. Thank you for the game.

euske 2021-05-01 06:32

T'was fun and addictive. Good job!

skoopidy 2021-05-01 06:34

What an original idea! Liked the game, but the amount of particles and glowing objects things makes in really hard to see at times.

florianduf 2021-05-01 06:41

Thank you all for you comments :)

@ubershmekel : You true, it's hard to keep focus on counting and play against mobs :) But more you try more you become better. If you play with two player or more it could be easier. @skoopidy : thank you. Particules and glowing objects can make more difficult to see some time. It's why I advice player to anticipate observations and make kill in the right moment :)

yellowsalamander 2021-05-01 07:33

Counting has never been harder. Good entry! Fantastic graphics and music choice.

@adil: You probably publish your message to quickly :)

I've not read any of the comments so I write my review as a pure first experience.

The idea behind the game is weird, but it twists the brain in a good way, which is always refreshing. What comes to the theme, I feel that going deeper does not serve a gameplay purpose here. It seems to be purely visual as the player drops lower to another level.

The player onboarding is clever as it's built on the level itself. This could be skippable after the player has been it through once. It would speed up the process of getting back to the game after death.

Also nice that the player HP is visualized on the player's cube. The more damage the more damaged the cube gets. Although it's not clear at the beginning when it's going to break completely just by looking at the cube. It could be clearer for example if the cube would flash red when it's the last HP.

I like the aesthetics of the game. Always nice to see retro stuff. Overall nice entry. Well done!

ithebredor 2021-05-01 15:04

Awesome retro wave style, cool graphics, ebjoyed the idea with bonuses for counting killed enemies. Thanks a lot for your game, Its really cool.

oramun 2021-05-01 15:18

Love the synthwave vibe to this. This game is very polished and has great controls and gameplay.

mahalis 2021-05-01 15:19

This is really cool! Never seen a mechanic like this before and it was surprisingly challenging, especially having to keep separate mental counts of the number I killed vs. saw. Great visuals and music—you nailed the retro vaporwave vibe. Well done.

likirus 2021-05-01 15:37

I'm getting a strong Tron vibe ;) Really nice and polished game. The task is quite difficult because you have to try to shoot and dodge while at the same time paying attention to the tasks and counting, but I'm bad at multitasking to begin with ;) Great entry!

danceswe 2021-05-02 06:41

The neon. The beautiful beautiful neon. A genuinely fun game to play - kept me engaged for quite a while. Would love to see more content as you go deeper post-contest.

florianduf 2021-05-02 09:15

@keppu : Thanx you for your detail comments. We take note of your advice :) @all : We are happy to see you enjoy our game :) We make it in the meaning to do a polish game. super-hadoken 2021-05-04 09:04

OMG really great game. The controls were smooth and the action very enjoyable. Graphics and audio were spot on. The red enemies were a bit too tough without power ups.

Superb work.

neowise06 2021-05-04 10:25

Overall love the game, though at the start it could have been a bit easier :/ or maybe its just me ahhaha. LOVE the audio absolutely killed it there, thanks

devnoob 2021-05-04 15:59

Made it to -300 XD. Fun with the counting, but it got a bit tiring after a while. Great Audio, great graphics. Overall a successful LD submission imo

vitor-milioni 2021-05-04 16:12

Incredible! Loved this spin on a Bullet Hell, counting the enemies really makes so you can't just fire away, the vaporwave aesthetic was also a really good fit, having to memorise everything even with the lights and colors blasting you... and the music albeit simple worked wonders, it really completed the whole atmosphere of the game, fantastic job by everyone involved!

meta-link 2021-05-04 16:16

Cool game ! A nice twist on a classic concept, it is really well made.

Good job

rolle 2021-05-04 16:55

Nice aesthetics and game-play! Liked this schmup-world, it felt nice.

The counting was used a bit too much for my taste, it could have been used more sparingly. Wish I could try it with a friend, seems like a cool idea also.

Congrats on making a fun and beautiful game! :rocket:

shin0nome 2021-05-05 17:31

The game is very hard but my god the game feel is so nice ! Very intersting mechanic, I think the player is a bit too slow and the hitbox a bit too large but the sound design, graphics, music… it feels really great ! I had a great time, good job !

silkypantsdan 2021-05-06 00:45

Very well executed concept - though it can be a bit hard at times (due to trying to remember what you killed). Music was on point for the style of the game. I loved that a couple of the enemies had different death sounds, and feel this you be a good addition to each one (From memory the yellow and red enemies had the same death SFX) - I found this aided in keeping track.

Awesome work!

Notes:

- It was a bit difficult to determine the players current health, and took a few plays to notice how the model would deteriorate - The text on the play field would blend into the game a bit, making it difficult to read. Though after a while it became apparent what you needed to do. - The falling segments were a bit jittery on WebGL (minor issue really)

itsisaac 2021-05-06 10:41

Lovely retro vibe, and a very unique concept! I found it abit hard to read what was on the floor at the start. But the concept of trying to remembering what you saw aswell as destroyed is an interesting one!

TWo main imrpovements could be improving the readability and also making it clearer how much health you had! Apart from that it was good stuff :)

florianduf 2021-05-06 11:37

Thank you for all your comments. We are gratified that you appreciate our game.

We take note of your advices for improvements.

javicoder 2021-05-06 14:28

I loved it. The visual style is amazing,

sigill 2021-05-06 20:22

This was pretty fun to play. One thing I noticed is that sometimes it's a bit difficult to read the numbers of the counting gates, because the hologram-models of the objects to count would be in the way of one of the numbers displayed. I also thought the shooting felt a bit underwhelming, at first I got the impression I didn't do any damage so some kind of clear feedback on hitting targets would've helped. Player health was also difficult to determine, but from reading the comments here I understand it was visible on the player model itself. You did a nice job on the audiovisual aspect, I like the mood that you created. The counting of the objects is a fun touch and even though I thought it was a bit quirky at first, it does actually add an additional layer to the game since you're both shooting/dodging stuff and keeping count simultaneously. Congratulations on your LD48 entry!

chillen 2021-05-06 20:47

Style and audio is quite excellent! It took me a few segments to identify what the "Count the X" was (a bit too transparent) but it was cool once I got it. I've often told people to consider memory/attention as any other resource in your game's economy, and this really demonstrates it very well! By counting, you take up your limited "attention" resource, as a risk-reward. Really neat application of that.

The only thing that throws me off, and it's a very minor point (especially in a jam) is that the mechanic of counting seems so out of place for the other gameplay. There's no real context that makes you think, "Oh, I'm going to be counting things". That said, as much as I like the counting mechanic as a bonus booster, I'm really not sure the best metaphor for it! Either way, excellent execution, some extra clarity on the counting goals would be nice but it works as is, very cool idea to take advantage of player attention in that way to add some risk/reward dynamics.

ardorugus 2021-05-06 23:30

Very cool game with a high potential for consoles and party speedruns. Loved neons, mood, fun voice touch. Music can develop and gets deeper or different as the levels come by. The count thing - seems complicated. I suggest you make it simplier, just for some cozy retro playing, without these numbers and doors. Then, it's a hit!

zombree 2021-05-07 18:05

Liked your game :) i like the visuals. Its great thank you!

100th-coin 2021-05-12 20:57

It would be really interesting if it would ask you to recall how many of one shape there were when there were multiple shapes to keep track of. Perhaps it tells you to count spheres and pyramids, but asks for only the pyramid count. In any case, I think it was a bit difficult to juggle counting and surviving, but that makes it an interesting game. nice work.
