LD52 — Harvest

Maize Runner by miltage 2023-01-09T10:49:30Z

Very fun game! As with other games, I am very impressed by how much polish there is in this game. You chose the right scope to deliver a super well rounded game. Nailed the humor/mood categories imo  Have to say, I found out, you can kinda cheat the game a bit: just continuously jumping lets you outrun the harvester, you only need to change position for the high fences.

Great game! This is exactly the kind of game i wanted to make as well, i intended to make before the jam started  I made a C++ emscripten game as well. Wanted to do a simple, clever, fun mechanic, not too much art, so there is enough time to polish everything up. You executed that perfectly. I'm jealous  Would have liked to know how many levels there are, or if there is an end to the game / a highscore of some kind. I wasn't sure if / for how long i should keep playing.

Nice and chill, music fits perfectly. It does not respect my phone orientation and always is in landscape mode, should be portrait though. Hope you know what I mean

Selective Reaper by Nick Sandison 2023-01-12T14:07:57Z

Played it a couple times, missed the natural death at first. Also wanted to know if there is some randomness to it. As someone else said, I could have played this for an hour given enough content, it's like an interactive diorama, very fun! And btw, cool thing is, even though itch.io says it's not ment for phones, it works great on my phone

The Heat by DzejPi 2023-01-12T10:48:51Z

I liked the art style very much, reminds me of the old pc and ps1 games. After a while i spotted the death angel in the sky, or whatever it is supposed to be, and it truely scared me, always kept it in sight from there on  It did not feel like i can do much to prevent the fire, so i was almost exclusively using the sickle at the end. Could maybe need some balancing there.

Grandma's Garden of Crystals by Xlores Liang 2023-01-09T18:21:50Z

Your grandma must have been a great person. Don't want to (over-)analyze any of the details for this game, just saying: it got me thinking.

Grandma's Garden of Crystals by Xlores Liang 2023-01-10T06:05:14Z

I don't think the rectangle characters are broken. That is words the grandma didn't understand. You can see what the kids said when you are on side B.

To me that was actually the best thing about the game. Got me thinking how life gets hard for some people when they get old, and how hard they try to get around it, maybe even hide it, and how to us we might get annoyed or frustrated with them.. totally personal interpretation now..

Alien Harvester by Marcel0 2023-01-08T21:30:36Z

impressive how much you got done in 48 hours. i like the different rooms, they play quite differently. the look and art is very good. everything is quite polished. only thing i disliked is the feel of the jump.

Eat your fruits by aduermael 2023-01-12T12:44:17Z

I actually did not have to wait longer than just a few secs until someone joined the server. Did not expect that, did expect it to be very hard to have people meet each other randomly in such kind of a game. Me and the other player were both named 'guest' so i don't know who was on the 1st place podium at the end  As others have mentioned, i had a hard time climbing from the bottom platform to the upper area as well, you feel very vulnerable to attacks when struggling to go up there. Besides that, it was super enjoyable, wished my opponent would have stayed for a couple more rounds.

@aduermael haha I was wondering when playing if there is such a functionality and my opponent was the creator of the game

Desert Harvest by math_daemon 2023-01-09T09:12:31Z

Hey thanks for your kind feedback! Showing the fill state is actually a TODO I have at the bottom of my main.cpp source file. But didn't manage to get it done in time. I'm very impressed how much others can achieve in 48h..

Desert Harvest by math_daemon 2023-01-10T05:56:27Z

Thanks for the ideas, they are all great. About having too little effect on the outcome, I agree unfortunately. I added in the bridge pretty last minute, before that it was even worse  There actually is a queue located between the 2 bases, but it is rarely ever used by the vehicles. Maybe if I tweaked the number of vehicles/bases/spots-to-dock a bit better..

Thank you all for your kind feedback!

@dzejpi You are correct, i spent almost all of the time getting the ground functionality in, like setting the graphics and input handling up and so on. Wrote my own routine to draw rotated sprites, which was very bad (still in the code, commented out ), then wrote it a second time heavily "inspired" by stackoverflow. In the end i spent half an hour figuring out an issue where the html5 surface has a different RGB format compared to a native Win32 window, so the colors were all wrong in the web-build (the font colors are still different between web and native builds). But all of that is preparation for the next ludum dare!

@verttixpertti Thank you so much for playing and commenting, hope you had fun. My personal highscore is 178. My strategy was to just stay in the center-left area and help them over the canyon between the left base-station and drilling-rig in both directions.

Desert Harvest by math_daemon 2023-01-21T20:14:38Z

Thanks for the feedback! Definitely some fine tuning wouldn't hurt. And the sandworm would be a great mechanic so you need to pick up certain harvesters occasionally to not loose a valuable workforce
