These graphics are so cute! Nicely done.

These graphics are so cute! Nicely done.
I played this for at least 10 minutes or so. I really enjoyed it!
Things I really liked that you did: - Movement + steering feels tuned well - Color palette is very appealing - 3D stylized aesthetic is very nice - Incorporated humor in a charming way - Little animation of the character rolling on jump and on finish
Things that I think could use a little work: - Unclear how/when music notes are spawned. They seem to just appear only after a certain amount of time, but maybe have a timer or something on the UI explaining that - The text is part of the aesthetic, and I like how big it is in the menu and after you win, but having the text take up 50% of the viewport and overlap your character mid-game is very jarring and distracting - The hand seems like it just comes out of NOWHERE. And I know you are aware of this and made a really funny joke about it (I very much enjoyed your description lol). But in terms of the gameplay, I felt cheesed sometimes like there was just nothing I could do about it as a player. I guess that fits the theme for this year though ;) - No music or SFX! In a game about an alarm clock! Sad :(
Overall, this is a really solid game!! So far its the most fun one I've played :) good job!
@william-corrin Thank you for your thoughtful comment! I'm so happy that you had a little moment of fun with this game. I just pushed a small update which addresses some of your feedback, thanks for taking the time to share it!
In particular, I remember from early playtesting that it was quite easy to avoid the hands. Thanks to your comment I realized that after adding the furniture, the shadows of the hands no longer provided a useful hint to the player about which area to avoid. I didn't notice it because I got used to the rhythm of spawning and I got quite good at it. I tweaked the angle of the sun to cast shadows more vertically, so that it can better serve its original purpose. Hopefully it helps!
Great little game, the art style is perfect for a jam I do think not having sound effects for an alarm clock is a big miss though
Cool game, i'm not sure if it's good that there is no sound I think music in that game could be usefull but if there was a alarm sound it could make it unplayable couse of noise. Overall I like it :)
I do wish there were some sounds, like a slap noise when the hand hits would have been neat. Oh and some screenshake if you were near a hand when it hits the ground. Great job though.
@tellyhead @genpaku @wavertron Thanks for playing! I'm sorry about the lack of audio. I'm not very good at composing music or creating sound effects, and I ran out of time to try. (Actually, I did record myself grumping, snoring, and making other drowsy noises, but without proper music it would have been a weirdly intimate experience to make everyone listen to these sounds...)
@wavertron Great suggestion about the screenshake! I had it on my todo list but way towards the bottom and it didn't make the deadline :)
The visuals in this game are on point. The idea is funny and the game controls well. My main complaint is that the hands kind of come out of nowhere, making them very difficult to avoid. It would have been nice to have some sound as well.
Also I feel like the jump is not useful in many situations. I think it would be better to have something like a short temporary boost instead of the jump. That would also fix the issue with avoiding the hand.
@dennis-magnusson Ah, I wish I had thought about the boost! Or maybe a dash forward? That would indeed help avoid the hands. Right now, jumping only brings you closer to the hand above you...
Hey everyone, I had previously opted out of the Audio category but I think I misunderstood the purpose of opt-outs. I've now re-opted in and I'm ready to accept the consequences. No point in *delaying the inevitable* :)
The concept is funny and relatable. The sleepy person has lots of right hands. Hiding under the furniture is very effective. I found a bug when I collected a few notes and restarted, which kept the collectibles from the previous run and I only needed to get the final one.
there appears to be a bug in that after you win once, you win at the first pick up on a replay.
the graphics look really nice, the game play is interesting.
the flip on the theme to prevent delaying the inevitable is an interesting flip, definitely gets this game out of the 'one of a few basic renditions of game-play that all the other games picked to fit the theme'
The game _really_ needs some music/SFX to sell the gameplay.
Really like the 3D style and concept, but it's a bit of a shame there's no audio to help get the idea across.
Cute concept, big fan of the colors and shapes you used! I wished the camera controller let me look up to see the incoming hand -- I found it hard to dodge them when I couldn't see them incoming.
@gameplicit @adroitconceptions I pushed a small fix to the bug which you noticed. Thanks for letting me know about it!
@adroitconceptions I appreciate the comment about the theme flip. Indeed, I spent most of Saturday thinking how to break away from the "survive as long as possible" interpretation. I'm glad that you liked it!
@cinnamon18 You can press the down arrow to tilt the camera up a bit temporarily, it helps sometimes. Most of the time I try to use the hands' shadows as a hint, however. That and I turn a lot :)
I really appreciated the game ! It wasn't to hard once I mastered the mouvement, I was really happy to see that there was an happy ending and it wasn't endless, it was really fun ! Also it's incredible that you did it on your own engine, I don't know code (I use construct) but I went to check it out and it's really cool, made me want to learn coding x)
I love the game! The graphics and animations are great, game concept and description is quite humorous, but the gameplay is what I enjoyed the most. As I see on other peoples' comments, many people found it hard to avoid the hands. For me it was clear, and the reaction time was perfectly balanced. Alarm clock controls feel smooth. Also impressive that is made on your own engine, as it ran perfectly.
Besides the already mentioned sound, the only thing I'd change would be making it longer!
@puree-adventure Thank you for playing! I'm happy to know that you enjoyed the game. Developing my own engine is a form of "bricolage" for me, but to be fair, I'm pretty sure my life would sometimes be easier if I just used an established game engine :) I hope that you enjoy your coding adventures!
@ramil-dev Thanks, I was hoping that the balance of timing, speed, size and room layout would provide just enough challenge to be satisfying. I'm glad you liked it! Re. making it longer: Initially 5 notes were needed to wake the human up, but I took advice from a blog post about how most people spend only a few moments with each game during such jams (which is totally fair tbh), and reduced it to 3 notes.
Nice game! Cool theme implementing. Very fun gameplay. Great entry!
I absolute agree with @william-corrin
And I really liked the idea behind this game .. as far as the entries I have seen - I think you're the only one linking the your entry to the theme the way you do.
I'm not a huge fan of the color palette - I think it's a bit narrow... but I like the "feel" of it.
Overall - really really good job on this one :thumbsup_tone1:
Nice idea, gameplay is funny, good job.
Fast-paced gameplay and hilarious theme, what could possibly go wrong.
The Visual is decent and the gameloop is fun! I tried to keep rotating underneatht the table first lmao. Nice Job!
Clever take on the theme. Pretty sill and neat. My only comment is that the music note spawning seemed a bit inconsistent. There were times where it felt like one just wasn't spawning for a bit too long. Other than that, it was a fun time. Good job!
Nice graphics! A little optimisation might be restarting with a key rather than mouse. Impressed to see it was made using your own engine!
Original take on the theme and hilarious execution! :D I just love the giant hands falling from the sky. Pastel colors and surrealistic minimalism of the game reminded me of Katamari series. Impressive!
Nice take on the theme fore sure.
An interesting take on the theme. It's well polished, and the graphics are cute. The big hands gave me a chuckle. I didn't hear any audio so I didn't rate that. It all works well as a little time wasting game.
Good stuff :8ball:
