The models are very well made!
Nice game. I feel that there is a lot of depth to choosing pieces based around the paths of not only the enemies but your pieces as well. I think it would be nice if the pieces themselves were a bit more distinguished, as some look a bit samey.
Ha what a nice take on chess, seeing a Squire was pretty funny. I think this has some good potential, it was pretty fun to buy the pieces and watch them go around fighting, I just wish there were more enemies on the board to fight :)
Nice entry, had good time playing it! Congrats

Game looks and feels great to play. and a really cool concept. great work!
Odd way of playing chess, but a cool way to twist it to fit the theme. The board gets crowded quickly, but it seems like that isn't really a problem given how if you kill your own piece you have so much material you can just play another one. Maybe limiting the player's options more and making specially designed levels would have lended more depth to the gameplay, as I feel this could easily be adapted into an interesting puzzle game.
Good entry!
The graphics create a good mood! One think I would suggest is trying to enforce some mechanics by the UI. Like for example the token mechanic. I've read it in your description, but still didn't understand it at first in your game. Maybe highlighting the pieces while holding the token or something similar would be helpful.
I really like the idea! It is nice to play.
I would love a way to predict how the Jack (knight-movement) changes its direction. I believe this would enable more planning.
I tried a couple of times and lasted until turn 17 in my best run (:
A great game that reminds me of one thing... I still don't know how to play chess.
I like strategy games very much, but unfortunately there are too few strategy games in jam. It's cool.
Got to round 21. The game is very interesting and quite fun. I would have loved to be able to change the directions of pieces already on the board, but maybe that would have broken the guarantee to lose? Overall really great piece! Thanks for uploading
I wasn't expecting a game this deep! You definitely have to think a few moves ahead to stop your pieces from slaughtering each other. Piece drafting reminded me of AutoChess. Fun strategic decisions.
I have nothing bad to say. I'd play more of this. Bravo :)
Very polished, Good job!
Interesting remix of chess with some cool mechanics. I think some of the UI was a bit confusing, but I liked the idea of having to plan ahead to make sure my pieces weren't self-captured.
Interesting twist on chess! Had fun with it. Great models and solid mechanics, I liked having to think a bit ahead to try to make sure my pieces wouldn't just take eachother out.
This game has some very interesting mechanics. It would probably have been nice to have some better indicators for where pieces will end up, as it's not immediately obvious that queens, for example, won't move more than one space forward. But there is definitely a good amount of strategy with all of the different pieces, as well as a great presentation. Nicely done.
Looking great and the idea is fun. For me the rules was too complex. But overall it's a pretty well made game.
Interesting mechanics. Models look really nice as well. Keep it up!
Enjoyable game. It all looks great and the gameplay is interesting.
What an interesting and original idea, well done. I reached level 17. I enjoyed predicting the interactions between my own pieces a few moves into the future; it felt as if I was designing a choreography for them. The models and sfx work very well here, and the gameplay is smooth and the understandable. It was interesting to see a few novel chess pieces like the Witch and the Wizard; I wouldn't mind a "classic" mode with the standard pieces, however — it could make it a bit easier to remember how the pieces move.
I always loved chess variants in video games. It's quite complicated to understand every mechanics well but I feel like there's a lot of depth in it. Gameplay and visuals are really nice. Good job.
Combine classic strategy mechanics and chess - good idea. Art - super. But sounds... Very heavy and unpleasant effect when figures moving.
Nice simple game! Great job! I played 30 minutes, it's very long))
I am impressed with the graphics for compo! great job!
i guess i am very bad at chess... my max turno was 6
Great chess variant! It would be awesome if the piece wore tokens applied to them as hats.
Very clever and polished game! It was a bit confusing at first but reading the instructions helped. :-D
It became very clear there are several factors to consider in one's strategy, e.g. balancing between losing one's pieces vs. the material losses when letting enemy pieces survive, optimizing the moving patterns to avoid friendly collisions, trying to gain additional power to pieces vs. making quick sacrifices to weaken enemy pieces etc.
All in all, solid implementation and very interesting and challenging strategy angle.
After playing 7 times. Solid classic graphics, would be great if you did them from scratch during jam (did you?). Sound is minimal, but ok. First I did not understand the game at all, just by trying out a few times. And even now it does not feel intuitive (e.g. when shopping sometimes I can take a piece and sometimes not, why do I get material reduced after turn, other times increased, ...). But it feels deep. I think there is a lot of potential. My problem is that I don't explicitly, and not even implicitly see the dependencies/ rules. Probably some clearer feedback on some actions, e.g. warning about the scarce material (it feels very abrupt when game ends) . Playing feels zen. Small thing: own pieces beating own pieces feels strange ... not good. Another thing: I would not use Jack, as it feels random after second turn. Info on left about pieces is not complete: e.g. it says horizontal, but means "horizontal left/ right" not "up/down". Overall impressive for a game jam.
Very relaxing puzzle game with hidden depths, it is the type of game I would play after work. Would really like to see this continue and become a full-blown game.
Fun little game, thanks for posting the source!
I made it into a VR game real quick, here's a short playthrough: https://youtu.be/ADyKpSr6Tu8
Quite enjoyable to play, might also fit well on a standalone VR device, with some love given to the environment, like maybe have it be set in a nice little cottage with a fireplace or something going. :stuck_out_tongue:
@shadowbrain Woah, that is really cool! Did not have VR in mind while making this, but seems like it's a pretty good fit for it. Thanks for sharing!
I liked the concept! I feel like tweaking a little bit of it for balance and adding an enemy AI that made moves like you did would make this idea incredible.
It took me a few turns to truly understand what I was doing. I cannibalized a lot of my own pieces! Oops. Great work!
That was a really cool game idea. I was a bit surprised that my pieces killed themselves, but I guess it makes sense!
At times it was a bit hard to understand whose unit's turn it was.
Overall, really cool game!
Very interesting interpretation of the chess game. I liked the mechanics and the level of polish of everything. Impressive how you managed to do all this in 3d.
