Struggled a little at first and had some success just spamming the radio, but eventually got the hang of it. Big fan of the graphics, nice work.
Graphics are really polished for a jam, loved the intro story ones! I haven't completely learned all morse yet, only got to implementing teaching 8 letters in my game... 😅 Found the walkie talkie a bit fiddly, think I needed to be able to input a bit slower (i.e. have some sort of heuristic or slider for the unit length). It could also be useful for the walkie to only accept the symbols needed for the game. I also needed a redo the symbol button.
I didn't realize that I could move them all at once either, so I was trying to just get them all to move north at first. But they got stuck on each other too. I could not react quick enough for the drones. Are they avoidable? How do I get my people to shoot the drones?
It also took me a while to realize I could scroll the map. So, a few more instructions could be handy there!
Going to brush up on my morse and come back to this one, it'll be good practice. Awesome job!
The controls took a little getting used to, but the idea is really fresh and fun!
Thank you for the detailed feedback, @mikeware! Yeah, the "guards" (those with the black zodiac boats) have a range and can shoot incoming drones. But if there are too many drones, they will certainly lose. I didn't include enough instructions, I can see that now.
I did the whole alphabet because I had so many other things planned for this game. But yesterday, I was totally sick, so I couldn't do anything. I planned to add heat signatures (the drones come faster if the boats are too packed), a first level for the tutorial, and the ability for people to follow each other (using IDs as orders). But... well, never mind. I hope you enjoyed it!
Nice graphics. Good job!
But I think it’s a problem to combine difficult controls, like Morse code, with time-pressure mechanics, like the drones.
This is really cool! I’ve never had to communicate using Morse code before, and it feels so satisfying when your message gets through. I also love how I get faster and more accurate with each attempt. The game fits the theme perfectly, and the whole thing feels really polished. Great job!
I agree that the controls take some getting used to, but it's worth it - the idea and the art turned out amazing!
Thanks for all your feedback <3 I’ll definitely add a tutorial next time!
Having to save people using morse code must be one of my biggest fears 😄 I almost saved all boats, but then lost 3 basically at sight of the safe zone... It is challenging, but also fun once you get the hang of it. Also brilliant move to set the longest letter as stop sign.
On another note: Great work on the mood! The intro scene is great and the music and graphic style fit the game very well
Very good idea. Control are a bit difficult to get the hang of (I found not so easy to get 2 shorts, the click delay is a bit too short), but it's easy to know what to do. The intro is really nice and clean, great job !
Now I know how useless I would be with morse code in case of war, good to know! 😄

I enjoyed it, great execution. Sorry for not saving the passenger ships, my bad! And great graphics!
Won the game with all boats saved
I liked the graphics and audio, although the music loop felt a bit too short.
Sometimes when I enter a correct command the game will show what I entered but do nothing like the timer on the walkie-talkie gets stuck:
Simple and very fun!
Guiding family and friends to safety through Morse code gives the old walkie-talkie a really meaningful role, but man i sucked lol only got like 22 drones on my second attempt
@henk Yeah, I saw this bug too late. I will fix this and the collision issues after the jam :') Well played on keeping everyone safe!
Took me way too long to figure out the controls, but I succeeded in the end. 😃 A fun idea, using Morse code for the controls. Very well done.
It’s a very interesting idea with Morse code.
This was a nailbiter, the drones were already above 6x and getting shot down by the little ship milliseconds before they were above it just as it entered the safe zone. 1/5 is STILL a win.
Very fun game! My strategy was to not send all of them but always have a gunship and one boat and leave one boat to kind of awkwardly follow behind a pair. But I also encountered the issue with the second command (or in rare cases the first) not being registered, usually when going north, so coordinating the boats was a bit difficult. Still, was fun trying to herd them to safety. It IS a very cool take on the theme, the new-fangled drones vs the old tech walkie talkies, that plus the controls via morse made it pretty unique, I liked how I slowly learned the morse for the letters by heart as well. Very cool game, great job!
Thanks for all your feedback <3 I’ll definitely add a tutorial next time!
More often than not, the N doesn't lock in, so I find myself unable to send them north. Am I missing something?
Super innovative idea. Very good theme. Great art.
I had the same problem as @sevansevan north doesn't seem to work. You need a 'game reset' button I think, because I dont just want to refresh the page every time I'm borking everything while working out how to play.
The graphics are awesome, and totally caught my eye. I don't want to beat the dead horse but I echo what a lot of others have said, the controls are really difficult to understand and kind of off putting...
The art seriously is amazing though. Really great stuff there!
First of all, thanks for playing and for all your feedback! I wish I’d had more time to work on the art. Most of what you see are placeholders that still needed some polish, but I spent way too much time fixing my buggy code haha. I really thought I’d managed to make the game bug-free!
@captaindreamcast @sevansevan @nnnnneeeedddd and @william-corrin This bug is so weird and annoying! It happened to me a few times, but other times, everything works just fine. You can spam the talkie, and it will usually reset itself. I think I messed up the reset logic here. Did this happen to you right from the start, or only after a few commands?
I try the itchio v this morning and all works fine : 20261021_no_bug.gif
@ao-85 Dude, you just copypasta’d my comment above ( ͡• _•)
I'm so glad some people at least reach the end :')
@mugule For me the second letter getting stuck was also happening right at the start, I think I ran into that when trying to send the boats north initially in some runs as well.
@captaindreamcast : Hmmm, I think I see why... I will fix that and a few other little things once voting ends. Thanks again!
Cool idea! It's really fun how frantic it gets when you mess up the commands. The art is beautiful and the short intro adds a nice bit of lore. I would have enjoyed a way to cancel the command I was typing (maybe mashing the button would just clear the thing ?), but other than that it's a great entry!
This was lovely to play and I was SUPER impressed with the graphics and music. I will say I got stuck near the end as it stopped accepting north inputs! Still a great time.
@ghettobastler @bea thank you for your kind word, sorry about this bug. I hope you enjoy the ride a bit.
I really wanted to play this game, but the controls didn't work at all for me. I won't rate you poorly because of that, as I can see the controls worked fine for everyone else, but every time I tried to make any morse code, it got auto translated to T E, so the T boat kept moving east forever lmao.
@brimstone I'm sorry you had to deal with that.
I'm so sad I didn't do a little playtest with some friends before submitting the game :') It would have made the experience so much better for all of you guys. Sorry about that!
The visual presentation and the pixel art style here are absolutely lovely! I really enjoyed the intro story scenes, and the cozy background music combined with jsfxr chiptunes creates a wonderful retro atmosphere.
Using an old walkie-talkie and Morse-like alphabet commands to guide your family away from high-tech drones is a fantastic interpretation of the "Old Tech" theme. The gameplay loop might feel a bit simple or trivial once you get the hang of it, but for a 48-hour solo Compo project, it’s a highly commendable and polished entry! I ran into that strange Walkie-Talkie lock-up bug a couple of times while trying to coordinate the boats, but reading your updates, it's completely understandable since you had to push through while being sick. Getting a complete, working game out under those conditions is an awesome achievement!
Great job putting this together completely from scratch! If you get a few minutes after saving your fleet, I’d be absolutely thrilled if you could check out my retro-tech ASMR cleaning game too. Good luck with the voting stage! 📻🛥️👾✨
Interesting concept and quite challenging!
I'm not at all familiar with Morse code, so it's really hard for me. But I like the concept. 👍
Very enjoyable. It took me a couple of runs before I realised there where different types of boats. I suspect that was mostly a user issue. Entering the morse code was a bit tricky so sometimes the focus was just getting the code right rather than guiding the boats. Got 2 boats to safety.
