Very fun and responsive movement mechanics. Lovely art and audio, good production values all around. Time-attack encourages you to make the most of the movement mechanics and take risks to go faster, which somewhat counters the general low level of difficulty. I think it could have done with a couple more mechanics (new enemies/abilities or environmental traps) introduced in later levels to keep things feeling fresh and challenging. The levels are all very similar, later ones just longer. The theme could have been utilised more than just 'the exit is below the entrance'.
Overall I gave 3.5 stars, nice work!
@vimlark your games are beautiful and quick scrap is no exception. I love the art style and watching you develop this game from scratch was very inspiring.Your approach to level design was particularly insightful. I love the level and gameplay. Nice music and smooth controls. Great entry.
amazing work!! i long levels when you die you go back to the start and it can be a bit frustrating, i suuget to add check point. over all the game is good as always!!
Nice game!
I think that the movement is probably what makes this game stand out most. It really feels fluid and smooth. The graphics look great, and the monsters are creepy. Audio is good, and the music is probably the best you've made.
A couple gripes: When walking off a ledge with tentacles on it, you die, which feels unforgiving and frustrating. Also, the game is hard. It could have been a bit easier, with less enemies and less tight passages.
Overall, I really like this game. Great art, music, and gameplay makes this one of the better entries in the jam.
Excellent game. My only complaint is that the sound effects were a bit annoying, but that's a very minor issue.
Very Polished! The movement feels great, and the art is wonderful
Good concept, You did better on stream than you normally do too.
Nice Game! I really like the graphics!

Solid. Reminds me of old kongregate games.

Very polished experience! Movement felt very responsive, but maybe too responsive at times, especially during tight corridors where pressing up or down could very quickly kill you. I didn't realize I could shoot some enemies to disable them, some more signifiers for that affordance or a pop-up for the first enemy you encounter could help this. Great art and sounds to accompany every action! Also would have liked some checkpoints so players don't have to restart the level every time they touch something once. Overall great work! Keep up the great youtube content!
the graphics are super cute and the controls are tight. good job!
very fun and a lot more challenging that it looked. Very polished and I love the art and the audio too. Great job!

Really well made and polished. Good use of vertical movement.
Love the pixel graphics and great controls. Good job.

The character art is super cute! Gameplay is challenging, but fun.

Nice game. Excellent level of juice. Love the music
Not bad. The game was relatively easy, but you have a timer so it would get really difficult if you were speedrunning. :)
An excellent game vimlark! Great job. I love your art style. I liked the movement mechanics as well. I think you should add more levels, but it's really polished. Congratulations!

This is incredibly polished vim, the hand of a professional game jammer haha. The game reminds me a lot of that game you were speedrunning a while ago, awesome job, Congrats!!
Amazing game this time! Love the controls and the artstyle. As others have said, the controls feel a bit too responsive at times, but overall it was a great experience to play!
lots of polish and juice in a compo game, great job

Very beautiful and fun game, movement feels very good.
Super slick movement. I was grateful and relieved when I could propel myself not only upward, but downward too! The visuals are great and the game has a good feel to it. The only criticism I could muster would be that the only use of the theme is the downward movement, not any mechanics. I'd be curious to see if you had a way to further incorporate the theme in your game. Maybe call stronger attention to the idea of deep space or something related to that. Either way, solid game. Well done!

The art and animation here is incredible! Super polished game!
Fun and beautiful game, but a little tutorial level would had help a lot. Really like the system that enemies doesn't disapear when taking damage. Can you play and rate my game too, would be awesome.
Cool game!! Particularly liked the alien sprites and the juiciness of it all :)
I've never really seen the idea of a platformer with extremely low gravity before, it works pretty well! I didn't realize that shooting the enemies would stop them from spawning projectiles, so I ended up doing things the hard way :)
Good game! I love the art! But I found a bug: When you die you can still shoot.
I thought it was a Jam entry so I was surprised it was a compo actually because it has polished visuals, music sound effect, a good amount of levels, etc. impressive.
Overall the game is good with tight gameplay and a good challenge level.
Really fun game with nice controls and beautiful art! I love the fact that you shoot a sort of electrical wire on the enemies that stuns them. The only minor complaint I have is the camera position when moving upwards as I can't really see where I am going

Really well made game. I loved the gravity mechanic and how scrap would slowly get pulled towards you
Love it, plays super well. My only real issue is that its hard to see whats above you when flying upwards. Other than that a great entry!
really cool game I like your videos too

A really nice experience and the theme is really well used, but the best part I that you were able to do this detailed and nice pixel art withing just 48h!
Awesome little game, very speedrun-y. Loved the highscore system, really incentivizes replayability. I just found a little hard the Up/Down boosts, sometimes I feel it were a bit too much for the fine movements I wanted to make.
Besides that, great game. Congrats

Fun game with a nice concept! More levels would be nice, but hey for 48 hours this is more than I could have asked for, great job!
Controls feel really great Vimster! I'm not gonna lie, I almost gave up (that difficulty ramp) but, I toughed through and conquered this game. Really dig the controls, animations, and the background rocks look fantastic!
Great game! I loved how the movement felt and being able to jump "down". I liked how the bullets just disabled enemies, making them still be there when you backtrack.
One bug I found, after finishing a level, it brought me back to the menu screen, and when I tried to select the last level that said unfinished, it gave me a black screen.
Pretty enjoyable game. I like how shooting enemies doesn't kill them but stuns them, since it forces you to pay attention to where you shoot them so you can get around them more easily. The controls were simple and fun. I especially like the downward boost, since it's never really required, but it's fun to use to speed up movement. Overall, a solid entry. Nice work!

I like the movement mechanic. The down side for me is that the game is a bit too unforgiving: it's annoying to be a minute into a level just to die from one contact with an enemy. Given the length of levels, the game probably lends itself to an HP system rather than a one hit death system.
Another awesome game, simple to understand, smooth to play. This is your best music so far, don't be afraid to put it a bit louder, bro! The background layering was so beutiful! Great one, Vim!
Overall great game, nice art and nice music
Nice really liked this one, little mild frustration at the controls sometimes
the music is cool, same for the ambiance. I really like the sfx, they work very well with the game.

That was really well done, i liked the controls/movement stunning the enemies instead of killing them added a really nice twist, i also liked how the astronaut was looking up and down :P Overall it was a great experience well done!
Super polished and juicy! Which is just what I would expect from you! :D Not sure if it was just me but wow I found it difficult I need to up my skills as a gamer, I'd say perhaps making the bursts a bit less powerful would make it more forgiving when near enemies and the red terrain, or even offering that as an option for people.
Great work overall! :D
Very enjoyable game. The controls are snappy, but it would've been cool if left-right movement was done with same kind of dashing as up-down movement. I feel like it would've added on the already sweet speedrunning vibe. The art is great and the music and sounds fit very well. I had a blast for sure :D
Very nice game, my main issue is that when enemy is tased he can still hurt you, and there could be a lil bit more control over jumping, other than that i really like it, "Super cute"
My favorite game on the jam so far, first that I'd actually pay for if it were commercial. Most intuitive controls, I've been playing a couple minutes and already developing stratgies to time my burst for maximum efficiency. Sprite work and sound are also outstanding. I'm not sure if I set a new record on the first level or if that time is just my personal best, but I think this game would be a perfect candidate for online leaderboards.
This was so much fun! I really enjoyed the movement and navigating around the levels felt great. I didn't discover until level 4 that if you landed on the ground the astronaut had the cutest walk cycle and footstep sounds and that was a very satisfying discovery :D Great work!

A neat platformerish game! I liked trying to get fast perfect runs. Would be very cool with online leaderboards.
The camera does move a bit slow when going upwards though, so you need to wait for it to catch up.
It could be interesting if the dashing worked in every direction instead of just up and down
Really fun to play! It was made a little too easy with infinite movement/thrust ability, I feel that could have been restricted and a pickup used to recharge. Had a blast playing, well done!
I appreciate how polished and deliberate the controls feel. Solid game, and the parallax backgrounds are a nice touch.
This game is nice. I love the art also. I would be very happy if you would play my game.
This was a good submission! Fully restarting levels got annoying as your character feels very floaty not entirely in your control, but overall it felt fun to play.
Very solid game and nice artwork! Fun to play, but a bit frustrating.

Movement feels great! Graphics are amazing as usual. Death animation is great. I think the hidden gem of the game is the walking sound!
It's like a less frustrating version of VVVVV! I like that the game isn't easy, but it's really easy to learn from your mistakes! I'm also really impressed by the polish and menus
I found a weirdly specific detail of scrap collection intriguing. If you get very close to a piece of scrap, it starts to gravitate towards you. I initially assumed that this was just a bit of animation added for visual flair, to let you pick up scrap from slightly further away without it looking awkward. But it's not purely visual; if you move away fast enough, the scrap stops being attracted to you, and you don't pick it up. But the radius for this attraction is small enough that it doesn't normally make a gameplay difference, so overall I'm not sure what the idea behind the scrap collection mechanics is.
Anyways, good game, ignore my distracted speculation.
The space theme and color palette took me all the way back to 2010 when I first played a certain flash game known as REDDER.
I'm glad @0x746564 mentioned the walking sound... otherwise I would not have noticed it! Speaking of sound, I noticed you have some SFX variations for scrap collection, but apparently not for shooting and other common sounds. Slightly randomizing the volume and pitch of the sound effects would be a subtle but nice improvement.
You made it obvious that this is a game intended to be fun to speedrun... and it is! The vertical movement feels great. Unfortunately, the horizontal movements falls flat in comparison because of the speed difference. Did you consider using the same vertical dashes for moving left and right?
I'm curious to know more about your thought process in the development of this game. For instance, I noticed that enemies only shoot projectiles vertically. I immediately thought about rotating these enemies 90 degrees so they could shoot horizontally (or even diagonally), but I realized that might not be compatible with your established movement and shooting mechanics. I think that framing these design challenges and talking about how you approach them would make a very interesting and educational video. If you can make it happen, I'm sure you would help a lot of young aspiring designers make better game jam games!
Very good game  let me know when level 5 is available!
Fun controls. I really appreciated the gravity pulling scrap into me. Also forcing the player to shoot the button in the first room was really smart "tutorial". I wish the pink "spikes" were a bit easier to see (larger). The levels were fun and were at a pretty nice difficulty, but they did feel a little too long, starting with level 2.
As a note, it was actually easier for me get past most of the moving aliens without shooting them place. Because of that, you probably want to adjust the gun to make it better fit how its used. Consider either making it easier to use (ex: bigger bullets or shoots a burst of 3) or even worse (ex: make it a melee weapon).
I think the metal blocks showed up for the first time in level 4? Those would have been an interesting obstacle if they'd showed up in level 1 and 2, just as something to have to circumvent that wasn't as dangerous as the aliens. You could probably have just used spikes and boxes for level 1... And then the aliens would have been more exciting as a way to ramp up the challenge. You did a good job of introducing the shooty-aliens after the moving ones.
Smooth to play, with easy to understand controls and a strong and clear gameplay loop. Very satisfying, as is tradition with your games, I think. Full of game 'juice' and just a solid, polished experience from beginning to end.

Great jam! The controls are smooth. Graphics and audio are nice. I love that the scraps follow the player for a bit, it's a nice touch :)
I just wanted to speed run it and I died an enormous amount of times. Loved it!

Peppy controls with an interesting diagonal movement option made for a pretty neat little game. For some reason, I was motivated to get all the scrap on each level, and I paid for it by dying a lot.

Love it! You're a master at making frustration fun. The movement mechanic is sooo good, would love to see it in a full game. For more challenging levels, you can consider adding timer to some buttons / doors. The background with parallax is just superb. Amazing work.

Pretty fun! Liked the movement, it's an interesting choice to give lots of flexibility over vertical movement (while giving less flexibility to horizontal movement). One nitpick; I felt like when I was going up I couldn't see much of what lied ahead, it would be nice if the camera adjusted more to which direction you were moving.
Wow. Solid, clear visual design (making enemies and hurtful walls having the same color for example) as well as quite a few assets for a compo. 5/5 graphics  The game itself is also one of the more fun experiences I have had so far! It gave that feeling of "one more try" to either get a better time or because I died and couldn't end on a loss
Well done!

Neat game! Very well-executing Bit frustrating when you get to grips with it But once you start to master the controls and you're in the flow it's great Well done :D

Omg this game is SO HAAAARD xD I'm so bad with avoiding the walls xD I think you did an amazing job!!! love the art, love the music, love the levels (I did 100% on level 1, but couldn't pass level two  )
The controls on this one are really tight, I love it. It feels like a great game for speedruning, except for one thing: In the places where you have to go up, if you go too fast the camera falls behind and you can't see what's right in front of you. There's not many places where you need to go up, but when I was trying to beat time scores I ran into this a few times (Eventually I memorized the enemy placements and so, but still worth noting)
A solid 5 from me
Nice!!!! challenging and addictive!
I liked it, the controls were solid. Very creative. Thanks!
Wow this was great. Took a sec to get a hang of the controls but once I did they felt very intuitive. The art style is charming and music/sound are very fitting as well. Awesome work!
High quality pixelart, fun game mechanic, satisfying sounds.
I personally would have liked a little bit more horizontal speed, but that wasn't really a problem.
Great entry, congrats!

Cool game Vilmark! I totally enjoyed playing and hooked for a speedrun and I liked that you timed it this way. Cool graphics, music and solid ctrls. Btw the bubbly jump up-down effect and sfx is addictive.. Great solid entry for a jam and tripple congrats cause it's a compo! I will gladly play more lvls if you update it post jam.
Btw thank you very much for reviewing our game.. it was an awesome experience <3
Played to completion! Short and sweet. Some thoughts: - The responsive controls were a treat. Beautiful work. - I would've loved if the horizontal motion was 30% faster (because I'm impatient and the up/down felt so good). - The camera when going upward felt slow and debilitating. Ascending would have to be done slowly to make sure you're not walking in to an enemy offscreen. - The sound of going up/down was so damn good, but part of me wished it was about 50 hz lower so it would actually be melodically tuned to the music. It sounds like a synth kickdrum and I was having a blast synchronizing it to the music. - The scraps have no impact on the game aside "completionism". I didn't feel really incentivized to approach them... - There should be a visual tell when an enemy is about to wake up from a stun. - Needed at least one or two more types of environmental challenges to spice up the experience.
Great work :D
Very solid entry. It reminds me of something I would have played on AddictingGames back in the good ol' days!
I would say stunning the enemy doesn't really do much (unless the enemy shoots projectiles). I think it would be nice to have them spit out scraps, or do something other than just be stunned and get un-stunned.
I also think there could be one or two more gameplay elements - something off the top of my head would be a "no-death" run, because I currently think levels could use checkpoints (opening up a new button is perfect, and makes sense to have). That way you could maybe incorporate deaths as a gameplay stat.
Gameplay controls really nice. I actually don't have anything to say about this, its just done very well!
Music is solid, gets just a little repetitive after a while, but i suppose most songs do :)
Lots of fun. I really had a good time. Just saw the YouTube video on it, and I have to say, 6 seconds to spare must've been unbelievably stressful.
One of the best games that i've played in this jam!! Extremely well polished, lots of particles and animations. The art is beautiful, it really inspired me!
Controlling the player is very satisfying: the upwards and downwards dash are really well implemented!
The music is awesome, the sfx are nice, the level design is interesting... I liked everything from that game!!
It would be nice to have a ranking system though, because I collected all the scraps and it felt like I did very fast. It made me want to know if it was indeed good, compared to others.
Great job!!

Great game! I really enjoyed the smooth mechanics. The graphics, the music and the sound effects are also really great, especially for a compo game! :open_mouth: It's very nice that you implemented two different high scores, any scrap & all scrap. This way the player can choose the difficulty. I decided to collect all the scrap in every level. One of the last pieces of scrap in level 4 was quite hard! But I managed, and completed the game.
It's quite a good speedrunning game, and the music fits that too. It would be nice to be able to share all the high scores in one screen.
Awesome job!

nice game only feedback i can give is there should be a reward for collecting the scraps since there is no need of it bu all in all nice jam :)

Подводный сборщик мусора - важная и ответственная работа. Без нее наши океаны бы давно превратились в груду мусора, и только благодаря неустанным сборщикам вода остается чистой.
Спасибо за игру, очень интересно! ^_^
Super fun game. Great job!
Nice game, loved the graphics. Audio a bit sparse but it gets the job done. Great entry!

Really cool game! Maneuvering around enemies feels pretty good and there's a decent amount of levels. Wish there were some puzzles so its not just go around the enemy or shoot them to stop them. The scrap adds a nice, optional touch though. Nice work!
Super fun and polished. Loved it.
The controls are GREAT. It was really fun to move around dashing up and down hahaha good visuals and sfx too. Nice job!

Great game! Really polished. The quick up and down jetpack burst was a cool mechanic to base a game around. Thought the music was pretty catchy too.
Congratulations on your game, very good mechanics, I loved how the enemies get frozen, particularly I like your games a lot, I believe I could add some extra things in future upgrades more related to the visual part, to make the collectibles clear, and add a story, a big hug, and I await your evaluations regarding my game.

Quite Nice feel for a SpeedRun. TIMES.png The nice feeling on descending strats. is that the collision-box is quite-tight! (after checking out you had debug-feature showcasing the collision box (orange), Quite curious of the small-purple box? debug_collisonbox1a.gif
Somehow, You could still shoot after being KO'd 😸.. (I tried another strat to simply hold-fire the entire time for bypassing the shooting-slimes; Thankfully does not seem to be RNG on their movement/fire pattern)
Suggestions: 1. Somehow have the Player's projectiles emit kickback velocity or have projectiles ricochet and when you fire upon the ricochet'd projectile it will create a forceful "Parry-boost". I think eventually more people would like to see more lateral boost for trial-sake! 2. It will be an interesting fusion if you could have procedural speed-run and players to compete by its generated seed. (plus the idea of having more interesting Speedrun category: Prime#-Seed Any% or CurrentTime = Seed for Multi-Seed [In place of Laps]..)
Kudos on Construct!
Good artstyle, especially impressed by how the sfx time length matches your animations. This is very polished, and the character felt good to control.
The camera is a bit to low when going up (as we can see in the gif in the comment just above this one) Most of the gameplay elements/obstacles were displayed in the first level, wich lead to a pretty hard first level, delayed first reward/win and made the game feel repetitive in the next 4 levels. I think the overall difficulty curve would've benefited from simpler 1&2 levels, with few obstacles.
Let's finish this sandwich comment by a compliment bun : Good job !

Really Awesome game and well done for completing it in time and getting it submitted. Loved the visual as per usual to all your games. I think the game fits with the theme really well and the general execution of the game is amazing. Really love the tight responsive controller/mechanics of the player. It took some time to get used to the gravity but after a while it became pretty easy to use. The sound effects are also pretty good for the short period of time you had. Overall great job with the game :))

The variety in movement for the vertical axis is amazing, it allows for simple speedrun tricks like pressing down multiple times, I see a lot possible of variety in level using up and down in a rhythmic way. It was a little hard for me to wrap my head around a space platformer where as soon as I let go on any horizontal axis the astronaut immediately stops, however I do see how this can be more responsive than the contrary. Overall fantastic game entry for a compo game congrats Vimlark wishing you the best! See you on the stream ! <3

Really cool game. Animation squeeze and other small visual touches really add to overall game-fell/juice. Would love to try out a version where all 4 directions had the burst mechanic like vertical movement does.
