There are the foundations for a really awesome game here. The AI pathing of the enemies is super impressive and the difficulty progression is really well tuned. I'm also a big fan of the miniature toy soldier visuals combined with retro 3D graphics aesthetics. I really hope you consider continuing to work on this and build it out more with new enemy types, areas, and maybe even some kind of score system for how well the player did on each level. Could factor in things like time to complete, damage taken, accuracy, and so on to give a score.

But seriously, great work! This is awesome!

Army men vibes !!!! I really prefer play top down shooter with mouse and keyboard its easier to play, this kind of control remind the old console game, with a gamepad why not? Otherwise it's super complete, different weapons, a map, simple objectives... really like a full game. Really a retro game vibes in it !

This is an awesome entry! Honestly, the only complaint I have is the controls - moving with the WASD tank-style controls isn't super conducive to this kind of topdown-like game IMO.

I also feel like the player has a bit too much health.

This was really great! Congrats!

I thought the turn rate was a tad bit too high but that was the only thing I didn't like. The toy soldier aesthetic works very well for this sort of a game. The audio effects are great and the music is suitable if simple. I felt like a real trooper when I was assaulting the enemy headquarters. I wish there was more ammo but I should just get better. Maybe a bonus level after the game where you have infinite ammo and infinite enemies? It's so much fun to just blast away.

First of all, really nice graphics and usage of the theme. The levels are really good too. One thing that annoyed me a bit was the controls. Not the turning mechanic, but I feel like it's turning too fast when I hold the LEFT/RIGHT, so I had to keep pressing them all the time, which lacks some precision. Playing this on a proper controller pad would be much better. Also I feel the collision box on the enemies were too small and it needs a bit more feedback when you actually hit the enemies.

But overall I really like it and I think it's a good foundation for a cool game right there! Good job! :)

Cool game! I absolutely love the idea and toy-story style soldiers. The animation of the soldier hopping is gold, and the retro pixel style works really well.

The one thing that I didn't like as much is the controls, I see no real reason for not having the typical WASD (not steering or something) + mouse to aim and shoot. The controls feel like moving a tank here, and the game is hard: not because of its enemies or levels, but because of its control, so when you lose you kind of blame it on the controls.

Still an innovative entry with tons of potential!

A very fun and nostalgic game! I really liked the way you showed that walls could be destroyed, when you put ammo behind a house. The controls were very bad, but I actually think it made the game better in a wierd way. Mouse aiming is so easy in a top down shooter, so the keyboard aiming added more interest and difficulty. And for a short game it didn't become too annoying.

Nice, polished game! The only problem that I had are the controls. Really hard to aim and in critical situations I managed to only run in circles. One more thought - maybe it would help if you could still see your soldier when it is behind something, like a outline or something like that. Otherwise good entry!

nice one mate, i played till the end, it was simply satisfying, but i think you should increase the sniper atk speed and maybe give it some kind of laser to make it more fun to use, but the controls are preety hard to aim especialy in the small huts

I love the toy soldier style and retro graphics. The sound effects add atmosphere and the destruction of buildings is a cool mechanic. The controls are a bit tricky, especially with the turns, but it adds to the challenge. It would be great to add bonus levels with infinite ammo and enemies - I just want to shoot for fun. Overall, a great base for a future game! 👏

I really wanted to keep playing but the tank controls were not it. Reminded me of Army Men: Toys in Space from my childhood. Fantastic retro vibe, just please reconsider the controls.

refrax295 2024-10-08 15:23

What an awesome game! Loved the visual style and sounds effects, and the sniper rifle felt so satisfying to shoot.

sudocoffee 2024-10-08 23:25

I actually thought the tank style controls were this game's strongest point, especially the lack of strafing. It made it so that every confrontation had to be approached a different way, since taking cover was really difficult, and that added a lot of variety and tension to a game that would otherwise just be a point, shoot, and cover kind of thing.

One thing I might change is to add a bit of hit detection behind the bullet. Otherwise, the bullets spawn on the other side of the enemy when they're right next to you.

The music and graphics gave the game a really cool atmosphere, and I liked how the music was understated enough not to feel repetitive after playing for a few minutes.

nimbushead 2024-10-09 01:40

Nice! The levels were well-designed and laid out nicely. I was not a fan of the tank style controls from a top-down perspective.

alexis8 2024-10-09 08:23

the style of movement is really fun and creative i couldn't shot didn't find the key but t feeled good

manabreak 2024-10-09 12:11

Super cool! I loved playing this kind of games as a kid. The controls were a bit awkward, perhaps a twin stick style would have been more suitable? Anyhow, I enjoyed this thoroughly. The first level was quite easy, but the second one gave a real challenge. Awesome!

frostblooded 2024-10-09 12:12

What a great game! I loved it! Good job making an amazing aesthetic. The gameplay was great as well. I like how the ammo is a pretty limited resource so you have to decide if you want to go into a building with more bad guys for a chance of some more ammo or to save your current ammo and not fight anyone. Good job! I love this game! :)

planetary 2024-10-09 12:30

It's really fun and a little bit challenging! A really annoying part is the player movement (it's pretty hard to play with these inputs). The retro graphics and audio have a very cool vibe together. The gameplay is fun. A strong point is that you have introduced a tutorial part. Good entry! :)

eric-shaun 2024-10-09 12:37

Absolutely army men flashback on PSX :sunglasses: finished the game, liked the map design, where you gave options to shoot the walls to get a sneaky way around some guards. 2 different type of enemies were great, really satisifying when they break into bits after shooting. Liked the bopping hopping movement. Sounds were good, the music was moody and fitting and despite it being the same loop it didn't got annoying for the time being. Mission Briefing was fitting, the Missions were fitting with that assasination goal at the end.

Like most ppl here commenting, the turn speed was too fast, I had to adjust "tip" the left and right (A&D) to get the shot aligned - but even more satisfying to get a bunch of enemies with one sniper shot :id:

stmate03 2024-10-09 15:41

This game was absolutely awesome! I can see many ways to play this game like going in assault rifle blazing, pick people off with the sniper, or stealth with the pistol, movement is a tad bit floaty for the turning but overall fun to control!

Not to boast but I beat the entire game with pistol only, was a fun experience trying to not get swarmed and lose all my HP in the later levels

sharploaded 2024-10-10 19:59

This is seriously impressive. Reminds me of good old Assault Trooper. As others have mentioned, the controls are not enjoyable. Turn rate is too high, and tank controls are dated. I love everything else. Graphics are perfect. Sound effects are nice. Music is great for setting the mood. You can actually shoot walls! Great job!

gurbx 2024-10-12 13:35

Creative implementation of the theme! Reminded me of the Toy Story Playstation game that I used to play as a kid. Nostalgia. I really liked the quirky movement of the player, which really fit in well with the overall aesthetics, but at the same time it made aiming really tricky. I mostly ended up standing still aiming and eating the damage, rather than trying to dodge bullets and aim while moving etc. Maybe skill issue on my part. Overall, great job!

adrien-tremblay 2024-10-13 19:06

Great concept! Graphics are sick. My only complaint is I wish there was mouse support for aiming and for the keyboard aiming, that the speed was constant.

rezistor 2024-10-14 21:18

Super fun game!! control is a bit goofy but it make the game so unique! aiming with sniper rifle never felt so real ahah)) Great work!!!

juutis 2024-10-15 12:29

Thanks for the feedback, everybody! I really appreciate it!

@alexis8: the key for shooting is X or , (comma). It's explained in the tutorial in the beginning but I guess I should've made it more obvious.
