The elephant model is a high point. I like this game, i'm familiar with something similar in Minecraft and Fall Guys. Controls worked well for me.
@chomby Oh no way! I had no idea Fall Guys already had something like this. That game is kind of an inspiration in terms of where I'd like to take the game in uh.. like a really long time when I have the resources to give it a lot polish. hahaha glad you liked the elephant. Thank you so much!

@wouter52 Thank you! That's an excellent question. At the moment, not explicitly, but it seems like such an obvious thing to do. Since I was aiming for Compo, I didn't want to mix in other people's assets, but in the future, it seems totally reasonable.

@dblazer63 Thanks, D! Yeah I can't believe I've actually never played Fall Guys, bc it looks so fun; and it's totally a source of inspo for the future. I think figuring out design-wise how to go from the very blocky look it is now to something a bit more "polished" later is a goal, but also I feel like a lot of Minecraft ppl could be interested so I want to keep that in the back of my head.

Reminds me of spleef! The enemy player doesn't seem particularly smart, haha. If I wait long enough they tend to walk off the edge on their own. It'd also be nice to get some reward for dunking the elephant in the water.
Lol honestly I had way more fun with this than i should have...it reminds me of this old N64 minigame in Kirby 64 where you try and make each other fall off by destroying the blocks underneath.
The theme seems not very present to me though, is throwing snowballs the old tech?_ld_post_b.png
@henk Haha, honestly I tried to not make the opponent too hard. I have sliders to make it much tougher, but I wasn't sure what it would be like for the average player. I feel like the rule of thumb is that if the difficulty feels right for the dev, then it's too hard for players, but I was honestly just guessing.

It’s strange that snowballs break through the floor instead of pushing objects around. The bots here aren’t particularly bright. Overall, it’s fun to play—an interesting project for a game jam.

'Duderpants vs Mr Crankypants' is a great way to announce a snowball duel. I like the cool blue checkerboard and simple blocky characters, and having the snowballs remove the floor makes the arena part of the joke!
The elephant amused me.
It's a fun game—it reminds me of the mini-games on Minecraft servers—but sometimes the opponents just fall off the levels on their own, so it's unclear how you won (I only beat them 3 or 4 times myself; the rest of the time, they just fell down on their own 😅).

the elephant model is genuinely the best thing in this game, i laughed out loud when i saw it. the snowball fights are janky in the best way and the whole thing has a really fun energy. i saw you mention fall guys in another comment, are you planning to keep working on this after the jam? would love to see more maps and more ridiculous characters.

@ernar Yeah, you have a good point. Out of all the parts of the opponent AI, the part that controls their ability to pay attention to staying on the blocks probably needs the most work. They seem to be falling off a little too easily. It's slightly complicated under the hood, since I'm not letting the AI "cheat." They actually have to look around to see where they're physically located, so that ironically can make them dumber. But it forces the AI to look around and give them more personality. But tbh, when I'm playing, I lose in dumb ways just like a bot all the time 😂😂😂. So figuring out the balance here is clearly an open question. Thanks for the feedback! Thank you

@perrarancino Hahahaha, glad you liked it. That was kind of the vibe I was going for. Yes! I'm going to keep working on this as I can. I've been wanting to make this for a while. I made a very very crappy version years ago, so this is much better already. So I just tried to shoehorn the LD theme into my game as best I could 😂 Haha, yes, I already started brainstorming on all sorts of insanity. I should probably keep some kind centralized way of communicating with people. Thanks for the kind words! I appreciate it!

Loving the whole idea of the floor disappearing when being hit. It really adds more tension, while the multiple layers keep the game going a bit longer. The elephant is obviously awesome! Great game!

it was fun to play, i don't get it about the elephant, what is the purpose? i think it would be great to play this in multiplayer. or at least add few more bots.
@bobanko Haha, if you hadn't noticed in a few games, some people got bummed because the Elephant in the Room theme didn't get picked. So a few of us are adding elephants in the room. I just thought it was funny. 😂 Thank for playing!
