Really fun to play - I'm a sucker for these kind of Vampire Survivor-like games :) Was able to beat it in 10:15, and I only got hit for the first time at 8:40 :D Loved the explosion powerup, was extremely handy when getting overwhelmed.
Great execution, it's a fully fledged game. I like that there's harder difficulties, although I didn't give them a try yet.
pretty nice stuff. classic top down shootem survive em up stuff
feels satisfying to play and it's a great bit of music in the background. only thing I'd say is that 10 minutes is quite a long time. By the end I felt a bit like I was just sticking it out to see the boss
really good overall though, there's a lot here I wouldn't have wanted to play for 10 minutes. this was a lot of fun
Thanks guys! @rynthi good work! Yeah that explosion is pretty OP ;) Not getting hit in 8+ min is impressive! @diabolical-sloth, thanks, glad you liked the tune! Yeah I was a little bit overly ambitious, thought I would have time to make different kinds of enemies etc so I agree that it's way too long for the current state of the game, haha
I found the game way too easy, until I realized that there were harder modes after winning! It is fun to play, but in my opinion, 10 minutes is ok for one round, but I wasn't up to playing the harder difficulties at this rate. Maybe you could have added some more types of enemies? Or you could have made the bossfight more diverse? Because for me it was way shorter than I anticipated.
Solid gameplay. I enjoyed the different upgrades. The gameplay got a bit repetitive for the second half, where I mostly felt like I was running around without being in any danger and picking up more ugprades but that's mostly a tuning issue that I'm sure you could fix if you had more time.
Reminds me a bunch of that new LoL mode. It plays well, the song is nice and catchy!
I agree with the sentiment of others, 10 min was quite a long time for what there was to differ on gameplay. Nice job overall!
Nice game in Vampire Survivors game style, but has 2 minor problems for me: - Too dark to noice red enemies (maybe cuz of my display settings) - After ~5-6 minute, game becomes too boring, looks like enemies does not have progression. Check out your balance because it is too important for these type of games. Well entry /|\ ^._.^ /|\
really wish for more content to play, wish for more weapons or upgrade to get, this game is so good and I spent lots of time to play !!
@OldDog Makes me happy to hear :D I will probably make a full game out of it, and release it somewhere :)! Already done a ton more today, more enemies, attacks and levels! Follow my X @ NickHellquist or keep an eye out if your interested in playing it once it's done :)
Gotta love a vampire survivors like. Nice background music
🦇 Great game in the style of Vampire Survivors! I really liked the gameplay - dynamic, with interesting improvements! The explosive bonus was especially pleasing when there were too many enemies 😄. The music sets a cool mood 🎶. I enjoyed the game. Great job! 👏
I don't really like survivorlikes, but I could still enjoy it. :) The upgrades were satisfying, and after a few tries I managed to beat the game on Hard difficulty. Though maybe I just got lucky. ^^ One tiny issue I found is that maybe dash could have been Space instead of Ctrl. It felt a bit strange, so I used dash less than I should have. Anyway, nice entry, cheers! :)
Very uncommon situation, when you play through all the game, if it lasts more that 5 minutes. This is the case! Brilliant, I really got fun! Not original idea, but well made
I really liked this game! It's awesome!
This was fun! I played through the "harder" difficulty, and there were a few fairly distinct sections of the game with their own feel to them:
- The first five minutes of the game, I almost didn't level up at all. I think because of the higher difficulty, the enemies were grouping together and shielding the enemies I'd already damaged, so it was very rare that I actually killed one. I just circled around the map, making sure I kept enough distance from the cluster. Eventually there were so many enemies, the game was skipping every other frame (which made the movement slightly wonky).
- Around minute five, I made it to level 3 and got the explosion powerup. Then for the following minute I just started blowing up enemies in groups, and leveled up about 20 more times until the giant cluster of them was gone. It felt kind of epic.
- The last four minutes got progressively more hectic as the enemy rate increased, so there was a lot more dodging and a lot less circling the map.
- Last 15 seconds were the final boss, but he was quickly desposed of.
Didn't get hit once (though there were a few close calls).

@sudocoffee nicely done! I've never completed that difficulty :sunglasses:. Yeah it's really hard in the beginning when the enemy hp goes up and you don't have any enemy piercing. The Explosive modifier is really strong, that one with frenzy and added ammo is pretty insane! Glad to hear someone actually beat it at the hardest difficulty. Thanks for playing, and your feedback :)
I like when roguelikes really let you stack effects until you're OP. I had a lot of fun making an explosions + piercing + reach build. I'm sure every playthrough can be different, which is great. I managed to get 10:22 on harder. One small thing I would have liked to see is a "charge-up" effect right before you shoot. Nicely done overall!
@djtequila Yeah, I agree! Nice man :D Yeah, at least some what, didn't have the time to make alot of modifiers, but I've continued making the game and made alot more now, so it's fun :D True, I should add something like that! Maybe like the player sprite gets a little bigger and then poof shoots and shrinks back or something :) Thanks for the feedback and for playing the game!
Actually quite nice idea and i love vampire survivors. The background music is so good
Nice! A great first game. The upgrades were creative and fun to unlock.
Man the satisfaction of getting explosion and frenzy after 5 minutes of painful struggle felt AMAZING!!
@voxar Yeah, that's an OP combo :sunglasses: The explosion is easily my favourite! A little to strong perhaps, but that's what makes it satisfying ^^
Nice bit, I've had fun! :) Haven't used dash a single time though, because of its ctrl binding
@nadan Nice :D haha I see  What button would you prefer? Curious for future builds :)
@nickhellquist I think someone mentioned it in the comments above as well - Space would be great. Im a casual gamer, so I usually play on a Mac, and smashing Ctrl gives my hand cramps  From my Mac perspective (for example if you are thinking about adding more controllable features), for WASD games Space bar and left Shift work great!
@nadan I see, good to know :D I'm just so used to using ctrl as a CS player all my life, and didn't consider Mac either  Thank you for the feedback :)
Very typical rougelitegame, very addictable. And i have played it for more than an hour! The paly modde is very easy to grt started but not so easy to pass the harder mode. The only draw back is that the reward of every levl is too traditional and a little bored when get more bullets and smmothly beat the final boss. Hope more details and innnovations! Generally nice enough.
So, this is a pretty cool game! I played for 10 minutes and 17 seconds, and by then.. My game was just starting to lag, and the cluster of red balls became so huge that they almost took up all the space on the map. The mechanics are cool! But the player's improvement is not felt. It seems that you have chosen the speed, but you have not accelerated in any way. I don't know, maybe I just didn't notice, or something else. BUT! The game is very cool! It just needs to be changed a little bit and it will be perfect)
Ctrl and WASD is a pretty bad combination for a web game, since, you know... ctrl+w.
Otherwise, cool little survivor game! Very neat for a compo entry!
@thegreatcarpet Yeah I didn't really have the time to test the entire spawn cycle properly so it can get a bit much  Yeah, I think I undertuned them a bit couse I was scared of making the player to damn quick etc since there's technically no limit to them, but they should definetly be a bit higher :) Thanks for the feedback! @imberny Haha damn dude, I completly overlooked that :grimacing: I'll keep that in mind next time, haha! Thanks for playing :)
This is a cool game and while I like the colours and theming, I actually can't see the enemies on the background because the colours are too similar, but I do have some vision issues so that might just be me. I definitely didn't survive for 10 minutes, because I'm terrible at games like this haha, but well done! It looks polished and the environment is nice
@sarah Yeah, I probably made the game lightning a bit too dark, and should probably make the colors less flat :) Thank you for the feedback :)
Very cool simple VS game. This is inspiring for sure. Thanks for making some amazing sound design and solid fun gameplay.
@coltonphillips Thank you :) I've always dabbled in music and sound so hearing I got that right is comforting :) Glad you liked it, and thank you for playing
@nickhellquist I think there were some instruments that we're peaking or compressed or something. At first it felt like an intentional thing, but over time it kinda felt a bit grating? Usually extreme effects are best off limited temporally to make them special. Minor critique tho
@coltonphillips yeah I might have over done the distortion/bitcrush a bit and I noticed too that it can get a bit much after a while  I'll tone it down a bit :) Volume balance overall is a bit too cranked tbh, but yeah, such things slips by when time is lacking :)
Nicely done!!! I got so addicted to the game even though the design is simple! The audio makes me motivated and the increasing of level makes me want to play more.
Nice work, a nice VS clone. :) The particle effects work fine when running full screen (it's a Godot thing). The jankiness is probably due to not preloading the particle effects (my game has the same issue) - other than that, it all works fine in browser.
Nice, liked it! Game loop is simple but works fine and is pretty fun, and soundtrack is neat! The one thing I would change is the contrast between the enemies and the background-- I could barely see the enemies. I'd also suggest polishing the combat, examples: add a white flash on enemies on impact, add screenshakes, more sfx, etc.
My overall experience was fun, so thanks for that, and keep it up!
@alwayshungry Glad you liked it so much  @manabreak Aah really? Did not know that  yeah they should probably be preloaded! Thank you for the feedback :) @thomas-bringer Thank you :) Yeah, sorry about that, others have said the same. And you're definitely right about the sfx, they do need some polish for sure :) a bright flash when hit is something I'll add for sure. Also adjust the brightness, did not notice it myself. Thank you for playing and for the feedback:)
It was fun, maybe a little long, the early difficulty could maybe be lowered as it was hard to gain xp at first since the enemies piled up until you get the explosion upgrade. It was also a bit dark and hard to see, especially since all effects were red.
Nice job - pretty complete entry and a lot of mechanics / systems for a comp game!
My main feedback would be to smooth out the pacing a bit and re-balance some of the drops - e.g. it takes way too much to kill enemies early on to the point of being almost boring, and the movement speed upgrade gives you a ton (too much) of safety for the rest of the game. Additionally it seems like the enemies are physics-simulated, which causes them to bounce off each-other in unpredictable ways sometimes, and I think for this type of game it's better if enemies have more predictable / adaptable behavior
@fint thank you :) Yes, it is a bit of a struggle early on, especially on harder modes, where enemies don't die in on hit. Yeah I should probably tune it down and maybe even lower the base speed of the player a tad. Yeah they are physics based and I did notice some bounces etc so you're right. Should probably make them areas with some sort of soft collider instead  Thank you for the feedback and for playing, helps a lot :)
Really fun game! Only gripe is the color palette - the enemies were near impossible to see, they blend in with the background way too much - but I think other people have covered that already! Also, timers would have been helpful - to see when my dash cooldown was up, to know when I would enter my frenzy state, and so on. Other than that, no complaints.
@douuggggg thanks:) Yeah, I dunno how I didn't notice that myself, maybe it's worse on some monitors. But they are definitely too dark. I was intending to have light on the enemies at first but then I wasn't sure if it would tank the performance. But yeah, it's been fixed in the current build I'll release in the future, updated all sprites :) Thanks for playing!
A very classic vampire survivor like game. But I think the scene is too dark to identify enemies and the background carefully. Furthermore, I think the game need some significant change on the player or the enemy after like 5 minutes to avoid getting boring.
I enjoyed it :)
such a good game out of everything i've played so far this has been my favorite
@soloadventurergames Thank you so much! That makes me happy to hear :) Thanks for playing! I'm gonna keep working on the game to make it even better and try to release it after the jam :)
I didn't think I would like this game, but I REALLY liked it! I like things that are simple, but everything works as it should. And even the fact that the graphics are minimal doesn't prevent me from enjoying the game. I went to the final boss and won and got a lot of satisfaction from the process, thank you!
What a great game, I had so much fun playing! The background music was awesome, it really set the mood well. I also like the choice of simple, but clear graphics. My gameplay wasn't really impacted by the lack of contrast between the enemies and the background but reading these comments I can definitely see how people with different monitor settings might struggle. Overall amazing job though!
@daria-toni I'm glad to hear you did :D Yeah, I worked my regular job the entirety of the game jam weekend so I had to draw the sprites during my lunch on my phone to get at least something done during the day, so they ended up real simple :D That's great :) Thank you so much for playing!
@perfectsquare Nice! Yeah it came out pretty well :D Yes, I think some people have it worse, I didn't think of it at all during making the game, but yeah I can definetly see it being a bit too dark. Nice to hear you didn't have that issue though :) Thank you for the kind words, and thank you for playing ^^
@nickhellquist omg, can't imagine combining a jam with a full-time job! You're awesome!
@daria-toni Haha, it was tough :grimacing: I think I slept a total of 4 hours during those 48, but I'd definitely do it again!
Man, this was so much fun! Feels like a simple version of Death must Die
@thatsommes Hell yeah, I love that game! :)
Simple style that really looks polished! I wanted it to go faster in the beginning but that's like all these style of games. Fun overall!
@str8griz Yeah they are tricky to balance. If you are 2 fast in the beginning then you'll end up way too op too early so it's hard to get right  thanks for playing:)
Snipaste_2024-10-10_19-37-33.png Fun game! The build feels polished within its small scope. I really enjoyed the explosion perk and the extra projectile piercing—, they worked great when I was swarmed by enemies. Nice job!
@foursay Thank you :) That's a real neat combo! Glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for playing (:
Nice game! I think it is very creative with the powerups after picking the orbs that fell. I think that mechanic is very neat. The only thing I didn't liked was the new enemies that would shield the enemies I was trying to kill so now there are a lot of them and I can't level up haha
Great job on the enemy movement! They felt threatening, and didn't line up too easily!
I think this Vampire Survivors-like game already has a very solid framework. I was able to easily get started and enjoy the loop of fighting, dodging, and gaining abilities. However, I feel that the relatively simple graphics limit the game’s potential (though I understand it was developed by one person in a very short time, which is already amazing)
Nice audio and movement mechanics. My first two runs I felt super weak just running away from enemies and not killing much, but I persevered and on my third run I was rewarded with explosion modifier early, combined with piercing and greatly increasing the firepower, and managed to win. Again, I really liked the how the movement feels. Great submission!
@ryuu Yeah that's why you need enemy piercing :D
@lightningst Thanks, movement is always hard to nail down :)
@aegisfate Yeah I worked my job the entire jam weekend so I had to draw the sprites on my phone during lunch to get something done  Nice to hear that the loop works good :D
@evindor Yeah, there's a bit of luck involved getting the right upgrades early :D thanks for sticking by it :) Nice to hear the movement feels good!
Thank you all for playinga and for the feedback :)
Really enjoyed the gameplay, controls felt very smooth and it had a nice difficulty curve. I'd love to see a post-jam version with some polished graphics and few more upgrades to choose from (some additional attack types would be cool), as you've got a very solid foundation here. Nice job for something you made in a weekend!
@historymaker118 Thank you :) yeah, I've already continued making much more attacks and enemy types, aswell as redrawn all the sprites so there will definitely be a post-jam version of this :) Thanks for playing
Solid Vampire Survivor gamepplay, compelling to play for a while. Would have loved to see more interesting ideas explored with the visuals as it was bit bland but I enjoyed my playthrough.
Overall it's an ok vampire survivors style game. It kinda fits the theme? Maybe more work on some areas like graphics, feel and enemies would have made this game wonders but I understand that the time is limited and you do what you can do. In the end I think you did a good job.
very enjoyable rogue like!
While I don't necesarily like survivors style games, I still enjoyed this and can appreciate it for what you have achieved in this time frame. Of course, some more polish and content could have absolutely helped and make the experience even more enjoyable, but, for a jam, it is really good!
The difficulty scaling also seemed appropriate, which I was surprised by :skull: (I've never been able to properly balance out these types of games, so kudos to you!)
Overall, a very solid entry!
This was really fun, nice work!
I usually don't play these Vampire Survivor type games but i did end up playing multiple runs of this one instead of reviewing other games ^_^
Good fun. I concentrated on maxing out all the attack options and relied on me being able to dodge enemies. This meant I killed the boss almost before he was on screen. I found the audio quite hypnotic; the bullets had a rhythm to it chugging away in the background. A really nice variety to the power-ups too, and I liked the idea of the ultra-rares popping up from time to time. Great stuff :8ball:
Got it! particle_wars.png Once I got explosions and +15% movement speed I knew this is it! :D
I had fun playing this. I liked small animations for green orbs, it was clear for me which I picked in the range and which not. Also enemy size representing health was a really nice design choice it helped a lot with the hardest difficulty.
The hardest challenge was probably time race to keep amount of enemies to the minimum because when there were too many circles on the screen, the fps drop was too brutal.. and I had to start new run. Also I feel like "attack size" either didn't work or was giving me so little that I didn't notice it.
I was promised a simple rogue-lite, survival game, and I definitely got one. Very nice little game that took too much of my time haha. Good entry for sure!
@metriko Nice! Yeah, to defeat harder without entering FPS hell you definetly need a little bit of luck, haha! Yeah, I noticed it was busted but forgot to fix it in the jam-version :grimacing: Fixed it in the post jam version though, will release a full post jam demo sometime next week with a whole bunch of fixes, added weapons and enemy variation ^^ Thanks for the feedback, and for playing!
It's much fun! I though the enemies could be a little faster. I never felt them threaten me even without any movement upgrades. The harder difficulty was a nice touch although it was quite easy as well when you got the proper first two upgrades. I liked the soundtrack & sfx also.
