LD53 — Delivery

No Man's Cubzh - Deliver package between planets, reach the top 5 astronauts by Hiinds 2023-05-01T08:43:38Z

Simple concept, executed well.

Really liked the look and feel of the game, especially the starry sky and the movement of the ship. That, as well as the planets actually orbiting, which was a nice touch!

I do think some music and sound effects would have helped set the mood even better, and maybe the tasks got a bit repetitive, but overall still a fun experience!

Air Delivery by LeviDSmith 2023-05-01T09:11:45Z

Simple but very cool game. The number of balloons was a tad bit haunting at times, so some difficulty scaling might be in order, but it's a game jam... balancing is a tough nut to crack.

Even so, it would have been really nice to see and endless mode, just going for as long as you can.

Overall I think it is a fine entry. I liked it.

Firelore: First Fate by LucasMolina 2023-05-01T09:05:39Z

I have always been attracted to story games with mysterious scenarios, and this one was stunning!

The story, the art, the audio, everything was amazing. If only there would be more cutscenes and more options to choose from, to learn more about the faters, the soldier and the painter, but I digress.

The only remark I can muster is the lack of music during the actual cutscenes, but it might take away from the charm of the game, so this is just a thought.

Hexy by rasblo 2023-05-01T08:46:37Z

Hey, wanted to let you know I tried opening the web build, but it can't find the link, so currently it seems the game is unplayable? You can respond to this comment when that is fixed, as I'll have notifications on and I'll be back to rate the game!

Hexy by rasblo 2023-05-01T10:20:13Z

Very fun game. Played a few rounds with a friend. Created a similar atmosphere to RISK, if you know the game.

Great entry!

Watching by Jajo 2023-05-01T16:13:02Z

I do agree with others that sending the game as a jar isn't the best choice. After around 5 minutes of trying to run it, I finally got it working.

I liked the gameplay, the art was really interesting, but after a while it did get repetitive. Of course, that is bound to happen to jam games considering the short time frame. The scene transitions, or lack thereof was noticeable but it didn't ruin anything.

Overall an entry I enjoyed after getting it to run!

Deliver Us Evil by k8n 2023-05-01T08:31:53Z

I think I am missing something.

The idea was definitely interesting, and I am always up for a cool puzzle, especially one about ciphers, but I haven't quite figured out how to see if I got it right? Does the game automatically trigger something if that is the case? Everything was a tiny bit too cryptic.

The whispers were really really cool, but I do think a bit of eerie background music would have helped set the mood more.

Even so, it was a great entry and I liked it. Now I won't be able to get it off my mind until I solve that puzzle, >:).

De-Liverance of a God by gord10ahmet 2023-05-01T16:27:58Z

As soon as I read "ChatGPT 3.5 powered NPCs" I knew I was in for a treat.

After playing through the game and conversing a bit more than I'd like to admit to the NPCs, especially Zeus, I think you should turn up the temperature / randomness sometimes, for a few funny answers, but I do understand why you might not do that. The answers did get very repetitive after a point, with them replying almost the exact same thing whatever prompt I gave them.

The pun on theme was expected, as it is the same one that crossed my mind initially, but still funny to see.

Overall the most interesting experience I've had with this jam so far. Can't wait to see more AI driven games!

Fast Cat by Terry_Crow 2023-05-01T09:40:05Z

Really great and funny sound effects, combined with a challenging yet not overly difficult gameplay and one interesting movement system, I really enjoyed this game.

I did feel it was a bit weird for the laser to always be coming from the bottom right corner of the screen, when the movement was still relative to the cat, but I understand the reasoning behind it.

Courier Carter by Linnet5 2023-05-02T15:02:25Z

Woah, this was great! I really liked the aesthetics of the game, particularly the monitor and the way you interacted with the world. I didn't fully understand the volume slider thingy, if that was what it were, as it didn't change anything?

Speaking of, I really enjoyed the music! Very catchy and it never once got annoying or bothered me at all, it just made concentrating on the interesting puzzles easier.

The level design was also good, but I feel some mechanics such as the gun weren't really given any introduction.

Even so, this is a great entry and I really enjoyed it!

Bundle Dumper: Florida Edition by cheesepencil 2023-05-01T10:05:29Z

Great job! The game looks and feels amazing. I've always enjoyed retro style games, and this one is just what I'd expect. I enjoyed the particles especially.

The sound effects were great too, and while I did notice the lack of a main theme song, it never bothered me and I feel it helped me focus on the puzzles at hand.

Amazing game for a game jam, and even more amazing considering it is your first PICO8 jam!

Night Rider Noms by LanaLux 2023-05-01T10:27:36Z

As others have pointed out, the embedded version in the Ludum Dare website doesn't open.

The game itself is interesting, but the lack of contrast between the menu and the background led to some less than desirable situations.

The art style was very interesting, and after figuring out the controls and how to do everything I enjoyed it!

ON TIME by VirtualMan52 2023-05-01T09:25:28Z

Pizza Time Pizzeria™ has just gained another customer, as after this experience I could not imagine getting Pizza™ from any other Pizzeria™.

The levels were really nice, gradually introducing mechanics and being decently difficult but not to the point of actively infuriating, most of them taking me 2-3 tries before the "AHA" moment kicked in.

The music was fine, but maybe it got annoying at some point, which cannot be said about that Jingle™.

The first puzzle-ish game I played in this jam, and one great way to start!

DelEvery by Bassilij 2023-05-01T09:33:47Z

I have to agree with other commentors, there weren't many hell deserving choices and there also weren't many overtly good acts, so it seemed like a mix of normal / usual things, which, after all is how life normally is, so points to realism I guess.

The music and writing sound effects were interesting at first, but got annoying the more I progressed into the game.

Even so, it was an interesting concept and I am especially intrigued by the fact every asset was made with Stable Diffusion.

Overall, a good game I enjoyed.

Le Laitier by Calcopod 2023-05-02T06:56:23Z

@cheesepencil The game has a web build, both here and on Itch. Is it not working properly?

Le Laitier by Calcopod 2023-05-02T06:58:30Z

@arficord Yeah, by the time I remembered about player animations I was already waaaay behind schedule. After voting ends I might work a bit more on the game, and propper animations, or at least squash and stretch.

Thanks for the feedback!

Le Laitier by Calcopod 2023-05-02T07:01:20Z

@k8n Yeah, my level design skills are non existent. I also agree that having a milk meter wasn’t a smart choice in the end, but I had initially planned for the game to have many other abilities which ended up not having propper levels so I cut them out.

As I said in other comments, animations were on my todo, but I ran out of time before. Since this was my first ever jam I’ll keep this in mind for the next one!

Thanks for the feedback!

Le Laitier by Calcopod 2023-05-02T14:54:29Z

@wuya-cafe Yeah, my level design skills are nonexistent, so I was expecting a 'mixed' reaction to the difficulty. At least I know better for next time.

Thank you for the feedback!

Amazon Delivery Simulator by Ryne 2023-05-01T08:20:49Z

Really liked it!

Very addicting once you get in the groove of loading packages, discarding trucks and trying to plan ahead. While the lack of audio was noticeable, and I do think it would have helped to have some sound effects, it wasn't as glaring as I thought it would be, as I ended up focusing much more on the action and disregarding anything else.

Battery Boys by Cronno 2023-05-01T16:45:46Z

Very cool game! Initially had a bit of trouble fully grasping the controls but a few minutes in, once I got the hang of it, I started really enjoying the game. (And yes, my spacebar was absolutely obliterated)

I must mention, however, there was quite a noticeable delay between keypress and execution, so you should look into that?

It was also really nice to see a game made in Rust and Macroquad, as I recently started dabbling in that myself! Overall a good entry!

Outer Space Snacks by Coro_yy 2023-05-01T17:09:28Z

Good game!

The controls were a bit wacky and hard to get used to as the acceleration is rather painful but after a while I got used to it. For some reason initially I had trouble picking up and actually delivering the snacks, but a restart fixed it? Not sure why or what might have caused it.

Overall I enjoyed it!

Delivery Sim by Bad_B4DGuy 2023-05-01T16:07:06Z

I really liked the game, congratulations on making and submitting your first! This jam was also my first and my project was much father from perfect than yours.

While it is slightly buggy and I was confused for quite a bit at the beggining, I (think / hope) I figured it out by the end and played it quite a bit. Some ideas were nice, some felt out of place but, overall a good experience!

Red Planet Rendezvous by csimpson 2023-05-01T16:50:54Z

I really liked it, a fun and original idea, from what I've seen!

All assets were nice, but the music and SFX really shined. If there were more levels I would play them all just to hear the main theme song.

The controls took a bit to adjust to, but weren't bad at all, and after a few runs I can safely say I am a master at piloting the rover!

Great entry and even more so for a first jam! I too had this as my first jam. Whatever the result, we both can only go up from here!

Devilery Delivery by ellaris 2023-05-01T10:30:24Z

I have to agree with the others on the fact that requiring an separate browser to play is less than desirable.

Overall, however, it was a fine experience.

Wasteland Express by Gasimir 2023-05-01T16:56:31Z

Very nice!

Albeit I was slightly in the dark at first about how to ... do anything due to the information overload, once I got past that I was left with a very pleasant and fun experience.

While the sound effects were really nice, I found the main theme song to be a bit repetitive and annoying after a bit, but nothing major.

Overall a great concept and good entry!

The last help by Linkway 2023-05-02T15:21:37Z

Woah. I got hooked as soon as the first purple guy made me sad, and the music dramatically cut right after. Played through the entire game and I don't regret it.

The music was awesome, and the sound design amazing. One of the most atmospheric / mood-y games I have seen so far in this jam! I have to mention though that the sound effects, especially the jump was very jarring and felt out of place.

I found that the art, while simplistic, was more than enough to convey the story. Speaking of, while I think the story was rushed, this is a game jam entry and it definitely got me hooked.

The screen effects were also amazing, especially the post processing! Great job! Overall one of the entries I have enjoyed the most so far!

Unicast Network Simulator by Richard Baltrusch 2023-05-01T16:02:30Z

One of the most original ideas I have seen so far! The style of the game is very distinguishable from others. The only problem I ran into, as others have mentioned, dense node clusters or, the opposite of that, a very sparse map.

Even so, one great entry I could see turn into a full game!

LD56 — Tiny Creatures

Cradle of Chaos by ekun 2024-10-10T08:34:14Z

Amazing concept, I've always loved sand games and cellular automata, and this game implements them in a cool way, not only as a tech demo but also as a mechanic.

I did have an issue where the game would crash when I tried full screening or maximising the game, but playing it windowed was fine.

The sound effects were really enjoyable and were cohesive enough.

Also, it is great to see people using custom frameworks / not using engines, as I always enjoy seeing other lower level dev stuff.

A really solid entry with fun and engaging, albeit a tiny repetitive gameplay!

smolHunt by ping78 2024-10-11T19:25:37Z

I really liked the 3d models and general artstyle. Recently tried getting into 3d modelling myself and it will be a while until I reach this level!

The animations and particles were also really cool, the latter were unexpectedly brutal :skull:

Overall, a fun little game, with a decently engaging gameplay loop, and a very solid entry!

Silk & Snare by MartensCedric 2024-10-10T08:54:00Z

Amazing, unique idea with a very good execution. The simple, 3d art style / scenes were great, and as others pointed out the web building system design was amazing.

Of course, as the description mentioned, there were bugs, but none so impactful as to fully hinder my experience beyond repair. I spent quite a bit more time than I'd have initially thought I would playing around with this, so the game is very hooky!

Also, it is great to see more jam games made in Rust, especially as a fellow Bevy enthusiast! Congratulations on making such a great entry with less "starting features" than other competitors!

Squirrel puncher by eerongal 2024-10-09T18:53:44Z

ryo.jpeg

Perfect game. Sure, I would have liked to be able to look down a bit more, have slightly more polished movement, but that would have taken away from this one in a lifetime experience.

As my [insert native language] teacher would say, this game is a "experienta fundamentala de viata". Thank you for creating this gem.

10/10. Unironically don't have anything else to say.

EDIT: I JUST REMEMBERED THE VOICE ACTING. GREAT. (some lines were stopped while they were playing though, so I didn't get to hear everything Dr. Buffnstuff had to say :floppy_disk: )

Tiny meat boys by Byzilio 2024-10-09T13:22:14Z

As soon as I saw the first level I really liked the interpretation of the theme and main idea, it is so cool! Overall, while there were some issues with the level design, partly due to the less than ideal movement (I realise that might be the point of the game), I enjoyed almost all puzzles the game had to offer.

Of course, goes without saying that some sounds and music would have made the experience a lot better / fix a lot of the issues of puzzle games such as perceived repetitiveness.

Great entry!

BOULISH - straf'in the city by knarf 2024-10-11T12:05:38Z

The controls were ... funky (I seem to have played the version before the fix. My bad), but it was fine. As others pointed out, while not necessarily a complete game, it could certainly work as a great prototype for something in the future.

Congrats on what you got done in this time frame!

Gloomies by SpaceMonkey 2024-10-10T06:30:07Z

I loved it! The simple art style and sound effects complement eachother perfectly, and, while simplistic, the actual gameplay is so fun I could not stop playing.

I've also always loved 2d lights and the way this game utilises them is great!

Absolutely great idea, with good execution! At some points I did have period of around 10 seconds I'd say with 0 diamonds spawning and a lot of "death traps", but I managed to get through them.

4:21 was my best score, due to the aforementioned issues.

Great entry, with lots of potential for a "killing time" type of game. Add some multiplayer and you've got yourself a possible great little game!

Spider Diner by Whirlwind 2024-10-11T12:01:15Z

While not incredibly polished, I really enjoyed this entry, it was really fun and I could see it stealing a lot more of time, had it had more content. Even a procedural, endless mode, could be very fun!

The audio effects were sometimes uncohesive in my opinion, but nothing too big so as to ruin the engagement or fun.

A very very entertaining entry!

Bug Squad by fabula_rasa 2024-10-09T20:47:39Z

I really enjoyed the game! The art, while not quite my style, was still really cohesive and flowed well, leading me to spend quite a bit more time than I expected I would! The music also helped with that, greatly reducing tiredness / repetitiveness.

The level design was really good! A very solid entry!

walking pet by MegaHana 2024-10-11T20:11:48Z

Amazing concept and art. Was interested from the moment I saw it was supposed to represent ADHD. Took me a bit to figure out exactly what I had to do (probably an issue on my end), but after it was really fun and engaging!

Hermitiny by KutaryouShinkoku 2024-10-10T07:05:31Z

A lot of puzzle games this time around from what I've seen, and this one is among the best I've seen! As others have pointed out, some quality of life changes would be nice (highlighting corals is a major one) and fixing some bugs, but overall it was a very nice experience and very good for a jam game!

Cell la vie! by picttarge 2024-10-11T20:55:09Z

The pun in the title caught my eye, the screenshots piqued my interest, and the gameplay kept me much more engaged than I expected! Really cool to also learn how you did the graphics from your previous comments!

The lack of a tutorial did lead to me stumbling around a bit initially, but as soon as I got the gist of it it was very fun.

Also, guilty of this myself, but maybe a taaad bit too much chromatic aberration :skull:

Good job!

Pom Planet by LittleBlackDog 2024-10-10T06:50:19Z

I absolutely loved this game. As everyone else mentioned, the artstyle is incredible, simple yet cohesive and elegant, making it clear to read, perfect for a puzzle game. Speaking of, the puzzles were really well designed, although I am not certain I found the intended solution for some :skull:

The only thing I could complain of, maybe the initial zoom is a biiit too small, but I played this on a tiny laptop display with 2k resolution, so I don't quite know how the scaling worked.

Aside from that, absolutely great, engaging entry, that keeps you hooked until you beat all the levels!

Tiny Ducks by osh.studio 2024-10-11T20:48:45Z

As someone who hasn't played Slay the spire, but watched too many YouTube videos on it, this was an amazing game. It really got the tension aspect right.

Certainly, some quality of life changes could improve the experience, but seeing as you mentioned you don't want to work on a card game ever again 💀, this is already really really good. I especially liked the VFX and the art, both were gorgeous.

Amazing job!

The Best Laid Plans by HexyVexy 2024-10-11T20:38:20Z

I adore the art style and the feelings it conveys. I will certainly steal this aesthetic for future games

Voice acting is yet another concept I adore in games, and yours nailed it.

Additionally, for a jam game, the controls felt REALLY good. I played it with a keyboard initially, and later switched to a controller to see which was better, and honestly, both felt great.

Amazing work!

Ego by Calcopod 2024-10-09T12:38:16Z

@sutt00 Thank you for the feedback! I did focus "a bit" too much on atmosphere / look sound and concept and because of that failed at ... actual game design.

The initial plan was to have RoR2-style egocentrism "balls" that acted as tiny creatures speaking to you and having the entire narrative related to that, but I overscoped massively and had to rush everything to try and get it to work. I 100% agree that the theme is ... less than incorporated.

The dialogue before the maze is incredibly annoying, unintentionally. I too kept getting stumped by it while debugging :skull: . Additionally, a LOT of the sign messages are repeated (towards the end they all say the same thing), again, due to the rush of trying to at least submit something.

Thank you for trying out the game!

Ego by Calcopod 2024-10-09T13:14:09Z

@leothecoo1 Thank you for the feedback!

I definitely did have issues coming up with a good control scheme. Tried following Undertale (to some degree) and only now do I realise Z works both as interact AND as processing.

Edit: I presume you met the enemies and their ... "soundeffects" :skull: :skull: . I am sorry for that :skull:

Ego by Calcopod 2024-10-09T13:15:21Z

@zwartraider Thank you for the kind words, I am glad the atmosphere slightly made up for the lacklustre "gameplay" and vague dialogue!

Ego by Calcopod 2024-10-09T13:53:36Z

@diomont Thank you for the review! I am glad the visuals and effects were at least funky.

Indeed, the meta narrative was supposed to be the main point, the game being its own devlog in a way, culminating with the final dialogue box closing the game and reopening itself as a "let me show you what I've done" situation.

Alas, I didn't get anywhere near that :skull:

Thank you for the kind words!

Ego by Calcopod 2024-10-10T06:02:22Z

@fabula-rasa Thank you for the review! Indeed, while the gameplay is lacking I do think the combination of the graphics, sounds and a bit too heavy post processing made for an interesting atmosphere.

Frankly, the narrative was cobbled toghether as I was trying to at least submit something, as the original plan was VASTLY different, but I am glad at least some of it managed to convey through.

Also, in regards to the link, there is only 1 link in the dialogues, taking you to one an [unlisted video](https://youtu.be/HEAzSDCFO6s) of jam progress. (The link from the source code seems to be working, not sure what happened in the actual game, however.)

The only "secrets" were the 2 portals on the top and bottom edges, both in reference to older games I have made for a game jam.

Thank you again for the thorough review!

@damien-black Yeah, I apologise for the obnoxious screams from the enemies. It is waaaay too loud, I should've toned it down. I am glad you enjoyed the aesthetic, as it technically is the only thing I managed to implement in this game. (Over scoping is a mess....)

I am aware the maze was rather poorly designed, so you might have actually gotten soft locked. That was why I decided to add Godmode just in case.

Thank you for the review!

Ego by Calcopod 2024-10-10T08:20:24Z

@dan-nik-sg Indeed, the game lacks anything but atmosphere due to me over scoping as always :skull: I am glad you at least enjoyed that part!

Indeed, it is a maze, and there are 3 exits out of it, (top bottom and right sides respectively, each with a small event at the end, but nothing much / significant).

The blocks turn white to show you better where you previously went and what path you took. (My attempt at balancing the abhorrent design of the maze)

Thank you for the review!

Ego by Calcopod 2024-10-10T08:26:14Z

@wdnmdld I am so glad you enjoyed the game!

Indeed, the game doesn't offer too much in terms of gameplay, and, frankly, all dialogue and map designs were WAAY more rushed. When I started out I had an interesting storyline in mind, with different character represented by the way they spoke and their dialogue visuals, but as you could tell, over time, I completely lost sense of that.

Perhaps that is fitting, considering the interpretation and lore I had in mind :skull:

Indeed, the maze is very poorly designed, with Godmode and the white path trail thing being added as ways to try and mitigate that.

Thank you again for the kind words and appreciation of the game. I'll be sure to try and "cook more" next time around, and in the meantime. Anything that I'll do and feel is worthy, I'll upload to Itch, so keep an eye out there!

Ego by Calcopod 2024-10-10T08:28:24Z

Ego by Calcopod 2024-10-10T16:14:33Z

@marcoleric Thank you for the review! Indeed, saying the game doesn't quite fit the theme is a bit of an understatement, so it makes sense it's a bit unusual. I am glad you liked the graphics!

@martingonn I am sorry you didn't manage to play the game. There is a windows build attached that should work + the source code is on GitHub so theoretically you could build it from source (not that I expect anyone to do that, it would be too much work for a jam game :skull: )

Thank you for the compliments based on the aesthetic!

Ego by Calcopod 2024-10-11T09:09:18Z

@thomas-gelman I am glad you enjoyed the VFX and the atmosphere! Next time I'll try to also cook a bit of gameplay, that's certain :skull:

Also, indeed, while the game was submitted as a Jam game I was initially intending to submit it to the compo, so everything was made from scratch. Only when I realised I certainly wouldn't have time did I add some SFX from a friend and linked to some external things.

Hoping I'll manage my time better next time around!

Thanks again for the review and the kind words!

Ego by Calcopod 2024-10-12T07:24:10Z

@shakirovich Thank you for the review! That is a really odd issue, no one seems to have experienced it thus far. I am sorry, restarting the game after every dialogue must have been rough. I'll look into it and fix it for future reference!

Ego by Calcopod 2024-10-12T07:25:22Z

@frostbeak Yeah, I was very torn between stopping the player when reading dialogue or not, and decided in favour of it to combat enemies, but I agree it is very painful, especially in the section where the dialogue appears on its own...

Thank you for the review!

Ego by Calcopod 2024-10-12T07:26:58Z

@purplexy Thank you for the thought out / interestingly designed review! Also, there can never be enough reflection layers... go ham overthinking 💀

( I am glad you enjoyed the game, even though scope creep got the better of me )

Ego by Calcopod 2024-10-13T05:56:24Z

@elzach Thank you for the review.

Indeed, much more writing experience was necessary, alongside dedicating more time to it. (the entire dialogue / signs were paced within the span of ... 2 hours I believe, when I wasn't even too certain if I'll submit a game at all)

I did realize one easily get locked, I just hoped it wouldn't happen / godmode was added as a sight fix :skull:

I am glad you enjoyed the art and VFX. I'll do better at writing and actual gameplay next time!

Ego by Calcopod 2024-10-13T05:59:09Z

@sevadusk Thank you for the kind words! I'll certainly try to have more confidence (within reason, of course), but seeing all the other amazing entries is certainly an experience. That being said, I am proud of what I have done, even if I know it could have been MUCH better. I'll certainly make use of the feedback I got and experience next time around.

(Also, considering my track record, as you said, even submitting a game is amazing already 💀)

Ego by Calcopod 2024-10-13T06:01:01Z

@picttarge I am glad you enjoyed some parts of the game! Also, really cool that you found one of the portals, I was worried people won't find any portal in general (I should have done a better job pointing to them 💀)

Thank you for the review!

Ego by Calcopod 2024-10-13T06:10:58Z

@plasmapuffs I am happy you enjoyed the game. Yeah, "objectives" was used rather poorly. There are 3 portals basically, each with a funky "event" / interaction, located at the midpoint of each side of the maze. (top, bottom and to the right)

Ego by Calcopod 2024-10-13T06:11:49Z

@coleslaughter Thank you very much for playing the game! I don't have anything else to say than what I did during the stream, I am glad you enjoyed it!

Pied Piper's Payback by Crygos 2024-10-09T13:02:28Z

Best game I have playtested so far!

As others have said, a way to make the intro lore go faster would have been great, as I already read the description of the jam page.

Even so, I'd like to mention I REALLY like the idea. Aside from the current silly game, I think a full on development of a similar game, with a more ... sinister tone could do wonders.

Additionally, I really enjoyed the music and general gameplay loop.

A slightly more polished character movement would have been ideal, but it already is more than decent.

Great entry, thoroughly enjoyed it!

Ludum Dare 56 by Mantsje 2024-10-11T19:35:44Z

Amazing pixelart, nothing to say there. Incredibly cool looking and cohesive while still unique. Humour is also 5 stars.

Sure, some more polish and quality of life changes could make this even better, but the chaotic gameplay loop kept me hooked throughout the entire game, and it was one of the best executions on similar ideas I have seen in this jam.

For some reason couldn't get the web build to work on Ludum Dare, but the downloads were fine.

A very, very solid entry!

Secret Shroom by skbadger 2024-10-09T12:45:05Z

I liked the game! As others have mentioned, some jump buffering, coyote time, better acceleration / deceleration curves would have gone a long way in making the experience more enjoyable, but even so, the music more than made up for it.

I also liked the art, although, yet again, some proper scaling in Godot (Viewport / Canvas Items) would have helped a lot. I have a 2k monitor and the game was way too tiny to play without proper scaling.

Despite all of that, I really liked the puzzle, and, again, the music was amazing.

The Ritual by krit1k 2024-10-10T08:48:51Z

Absolutely amazing atmosphere, conveyed through art, slight sound and combat system design. The locations were all really good as well, and polish shone through every aspect of the game.

While I do have certain gripes, they are mostly from personal style / subjective reasons, so there is nothing to report. It all worked flawlessly.

Absolutely amazing entry, great to see another atmopsheric game! (although, in mine, due to overscoping I completely overlooked gameplay :skull: )

Tiny Soul by DurkaGames 2024-10-11T21:00:04Z

I don't understand why you have so few reviews (perhaps lack of rating others games, based on stats*), but the game is amazing. The screenshot art reminded me of For The King and Risk of Rain, somehow. The visuals were stunning.

Certainly, the movement could be a bit more polished and worked on, but for a jam game it was fine, and didn't hinder gameplay thaaaaat much.

Great work!

***(also, in general, if you wish to get more reviews, rate other people's games. This will boost your own entry in the Games section!)**

Cordyception by Rakthalekk 2024-10-11T20:44:40Z

I adore this pixelart style, it is stunning. The only complain I might have is, to me, the foreground and background layers bleed a bit too much into one another, especially with the parallax, but there were 0 actual issues this brought about.

As others mentioned, maybe the hitboxes were a tiiiinyyy bit too unforgiving, but, again, it didn't hinder the gameplay too much.

Great work!

Ballverse by Planetary 2024-10-09T12:50:19Z

Interesting game! Instantly reminded me of Dani's "Off the Balls", both in concept and general look / feel.

Aside from a few issues at the start, when I had no upgrades, and the occasional soft-lock leap of faith into the unknown, I quite enjoyed the game and, as others pointed out, I could see myself playing this on my phone.

Additionally, I didn't feel like the music got repetitive, even after a few gruelling segments. It also helped set the mood surprisingly well!

The game also seems to have quite a lot of content, I didn't get to explore quite all of it, so extra points for that!

Solo Hamstering by purplexy 2024-10-11T20:32:49Z

I apologise for the rather brisk review, but I can't express this any better than: an absolutely funky game. I really enjoyed the experience, the art and animations were certainly a highlight.

Great work!

Betty's Tiny Adventure by Catakun 2024-10-10T07:42:27Z

Very cool game! While pixel sizes varied, leading to a slightly scuffed pixel art aesthetic, the overall art direction was still really nice and generally cohesive. I really liked it!

There were a few bugs, the most noticeable was that when you pause the game right after taking damage from a slime, you will keep taking damage until you unpause :skull:

Of course, some quality of life changes would be appreciated, such as a way of saving and maybe faster movement / less health, but, overall a very solid entry which I enjoyed for a while.

GLOW by Fenix131113 2024-10-11T20:29:53Z

Absolutely stunning pixelart, lighting effects and atmosphere. Best entry in this regard I have played thus far! General design seemed really good, and the gameplay, a tad bit frustrating at times, was really enjoyable. The music brought everything toghether!

Dare I say this is my favourite atmospheric game I have played so far (and I made an atmosphere based game as well :skull: You blew me completely out of the water!)

Ludum Dare 56 - Hamster Hoarder by Radjax 2024-10-11T11:46:42Z

I liked the art, but, playing on a 2k monitor I had big scaling issues with the UI and viewport. As it is a Godot game you should probably enable 2d scaling, probably set to Viewport (Canvas Items works as well).

The music was good, and fit the game. Speaking of, the gameplay loop was sufficiently engaging, and kept me playing for quite a bit more than I initially thought I would.

Very funky entry!

Blackie by ZinYuTu 2024-10-09T14:09:56Z

Sadly the game seems to have quite a few scaling issues. I tried playing on a 2k monitor and a lot of items seemed out of place / the UI didn't cover the entire screen / gameplay was too zoomed out.

That aside, I quite enjoyed it. The music and SFX, while not much, was engaging enough to not let me get distracted, and the plot and art directions were interesting. As a "subject" of a my cat (black with amber eyes), I was really looking forward to this one!

Overall, a very funky cool experience!

Flea or Flee Arcade by Martingonn 2024-10-10T07:48:12Z

It is great to see a Pygame game here! I really enjoyed the game! There were a few bugs, none which weren't pointed out alreeady, but they didn't hinder my experience that much.

A solid entry for the jam that kept me hooked for quite a bit more time than I initially expected!

nothing by belron 2024-10-11T21:03:05Z

... the title isn't wrong, but I really expected a very meta entry based on this. Maybe you'll have better luck next jam around, don't get discouraged!

Little sparkle by okEly 2024-10-10T07:22:22Z

I really liked this game! From the concept to the gameplay it kind-of reminded me of an old GMTK Jam game, "Static Cling".

As others have pointed out, the game is rather short, but what it provides is a decently polished, engaging experience, with good puzzle design, especially in the last level.

While the art is not certainly my style, I think it fits well and is cohesive throughout all the assets.

A great entry!

Little Fella by 7_Ice Cube 2024-10-09T13:33:27Z

Despite my expectations from the screenshots, I actually quite enjoyed the art style / art direction you took. While certainly a bit ... not cohesive / "schizophrenic", it feels as such in an good way? I enjoyed it at least.

The movement was less than desirable, but for a jam game it was fine / didn't hinder me that much.

Had a hard time understanding what I was supposed to do at the start, but as soon as I figured it out I really liked the concept.

Very funky entry!

Rat Game by Pachino55 2024-10-11T11:42:41Z

Interesting art direction. Not necessarily my style, but it was all cohesive and looked good in the game. The audio matched and improved the gameplay, so extra points for that, especially the chords playing when pressing space during the dialogue.

Narrative and story telling were a 10/10, made me cry.

As others have mentioned, better collisions and movement would have been appreciated, but for a jam game it was fine.

Additionally, while the game was short, it was quite enjoyable. A solid entry!

MICROSLAYER by jellyfishhunter 2024-10-11T12:03:08Z

Amazing game. Loved the graphics, and the music, albeit not made by you, really made everything shine in harmony. The combat system was really fun!

Great entry!

Spider's survey by RayanNGI 2024-10-10T06:16:38Z

As others have pointed out, I was truly jumpscared by the sound effects, as they are a bit jarring, but after adjusting my volume accordingly it was fine.

The art direction was really interesting, and all elements felt cohesive.

Overall a very solid entry!

Familiar Bones by barryrichter 2024-10-11T20:18:15Z

I was hyped for this game ever since I saw some art pieces during the Jam's runtime. I was not disappointed. The art is amazing, the atmosphere is incredible, and overall a joy to play.

As opposed to others, I do think SOME amount of SFX and or music could help, but, for a jam game, this is already absolutely incredible!

Ant of the Road by SpeedyRagout 2024-10-09T14:00:52Z

Don't know if it is just me, but the web version didn't seem to work? It just wouldn't load, not sure why.

The windows version, did however, and I quite enjoyed the game. Despite some initial confusion about the controls and how to properly do something, when I got the hang of it it was quite enjoyable!

I also enjoyed the art direction, even if it was a bit (maybe too much) chaotic.

A solid entry.

Poppet by Emsea 2024-10-11T11:51:14Z

The graphics were amazing in creating an atmosphere, 10 / 10. Seeing as this was your first time with Godot and you cooked this much I am excited for future games!

As others mentioned, collisions issues happened, but they didn't hinder my experience thaaat much.

Amazing visuals entry!

A Fish Based Game by rodney fan 2024-10-09T13:50:21Z

Amazing game, best one I have played so far. Very humorous, very cool interpretation of the theme, and absolutely banger idea.

Sure, some minor nit-picks here and there, but I genuinely don't have anything to say aside from very well done, absolutely amazing!

Tiny Fallk by Anekich 2024-10-11T19:32:09Z

Absolutely amazing art, couldn't get enough of it. The music was also really cohesive with everything else and tied everything toghether. The smooth hand animations and movement instantly got me hooked, alongside the (don't take this the wrong way) surprisingly engaging gameplay loop!

One of the entries I have enjoyed most so far.

TheCoon by XivArath 2024-10-09T13:38:52Z

Very simplistic, but not bad. Of course more polish, content, sound effects etc. would help, but even in its current state I enjoyed playing this until I was caught by the Zoo Officer.

Also, a dash mechanic or something similar would make the game a lot more enjoyable, giving the player more than just WASD.

Funky game!

Tiny bots by Arstotzk 2024-10-11T19:27:58Z

Such a cool concept idea! I liked it from the get go, as it was very similar to an idea I had at the start of the jam, but related to a mycelial network. That being said, this is much better than what I could have hoped to achieve!

A very, very solid entry, incredibly fun as well!

Rattalion by MaybeitsMir 2024-10-10T08:44:10Z

The 2nd pied piper related game I have seen during this jam, and both were equally amazing! The rhythm based combat is really fun and, while it was a tad bit chaotic / confusing throughout the game, I always enjoyed it.

The art style, while not necessarily my usual style, was more than enjoyable, well fitting with the concept and generally cohesive, leading to a good experience!

Looking forward to the post jam updates, as I can definitely see this working well as a more polished, filled with content version!

Rat Smacker by ChanceE 2024-10-10T06:08:43Z

Overall a simple game, but quite enjoyable.

The art style is certainly interesting, and worked well enough for the simple goal of the game. The presence of sound effects also added a lot, even though I feel some of them didn't flow as well with the rest of the game.

It took me a bit to realise how I was supposed to throw rats in the bin once I had caught them, but after I realised it was smooth sailing.

A decent entry!

Nomiss has one hundred paws by Alban 2024-10-09T13:11:21Z

Was a tad confused at the start, as I feel the game doesn't introduce the mechanics quite well but once I figured it out I enjoyed it for a little while.

Would have been great if every leg had a unique sound that was always the same, allowing you to memorise them by audio cues as well / making the visuals for selected legs more noticeable.

I really liked the concept / theme interpretation. Very cool funky game!

Tiny Spider by Mamkinshenok 2024-10-10T06:04:37Z

It seems the other reviewers are right. The Ludum Dare web build doesn't seem to work and the itch returns a 404.

Cellular Automota by The Floating Brain 2024-10-09T14:14:26Z

Always enjoyed cellular automata, especially when it comes to level generation. However cool it is, I don't think it works standalone as a game, but it was funky to play around with. The control were a bit too finnicky, but they worked well enough I guess.

Any form of SFX or music would have gone a long way, but I understand that maybe wasn't the goal of this project.

Innovative idea to try and use CA for the theme, however, so bonus points for that!

Hexoban by PlasmaPuffs 2024-10-11T20:52:01Z

Amazing game, really cool take on Sokoban. One of the best compo games I have played so far. Art and music complemented eachother well and were really cohesive.

The puzzles were really well designed / I enjoyed them a lot.

Amazing game in general, even more so for it being a compo project. Well done!

Particle Wars by NickHellquist 2024-10-11T20:22:17Z

While I don't necesarily like survivors style games, I still enjoyed this and can appreciate it for what you have achieved in this time frame. Of course, some more polish and content could have absolutely helped and make the experience even more enjoyable, but, for a jam, it is really good!

The difficulty scaling also seemed appropriate, which I was surprised by :skull: (I've never been able to properly balance out these types of games, so kudos to you!)

Overall, a very solid entry!

Tinny Terror Escape Run by cutepurrr 2024-10-09T13:06:04Z

As others have stated, looks funky, and I'd love to play, but the browser version doesn't work at all for me.
