Okay so I had to dock a little of the "overall/fun" scores when I realised it was "sound by others" - that soundtrack and the audio really pull it all together and it was a jam. Really well made little game, I felt like a bacteriophage.

gustavo-muller 2024-10-07 11:00

Best game I've played so far

vlad-russu 2024-10-07 12:00

Interesting gameplay and soundtrack, fun combat system

sharky3188 2024-10-08 00:26

Great work! I really like the overall visuals, the boss looked great, i especially liked its attack animations. Combat felt decent. Great work.

pijinguy 2024-10-08 18:33

love love love the visuals. the sounds are really great. and the gameplay itself is quite fun and engaging. brilliant job!

budaniel 2024-10-08 18:47

I love the old-school arcade machine vector art! I wish there was an easier way to tell which baddies would take two hits from a distance, but other than that, I really liked it!

thaunter 2024-10-08 18:49

I really appreciated this one, especially about the aesthetic and the global mood, really cool !

neoawesomeon 2024-10-08 18:56

Simple, but nice. The music was also pretty good! The visuals got a bit busy in some sections, as it became a little difficult to see the player character under all the pixels above them, but it wasn't that big of a deal. Nice work overall.

heiden-bzr 2024-10-08 19:14

Okay that is totally not my kind of game, but after some time I figured it out and it became pretty funny and simple. Until the small room when after one hit I cant attack nor find my 'ghost' or whatever is that and i'm doomed... :( Dunno about that layout The music is really cool, made this game.

pachino55 2024-10-10 18:16

Cool!

dean-goodson 2024-10-10 18:21

I BEAT IT!! I had a blast playing, it took me about 20 minutes to finally beat the final boss. It totally gave me lazer tag vibes!

brainles-etertainment 2024-10-10 18:21

I really liked the graphics, it has some retro-vibes, especially green on black. Same for the limited palette, very cool vibes.

wouterk12 2024-10-10 18:24

Really cool graphics! The gameplay was a bit simple but I really enjoyed playing it. Well done! :D

cliff-coffee 2024-10-11 00:19

This game is great! Simple yet fun mechanics. I liked the 1-2 hit mechanic where you drop your weapon and then die if you get hit. Can see myself playing again later to get father - some of the green can be a bit distracting, even just a little dimmer in a few spots could help with that - but doesn't really take away from the fun at all. If anything this felt like a real classic arcade game to me. I'd put a quarter in this to play at my local arcade!

holysparks 2024-10-11 00:30

I had fun with this one! The art you had going on is really great too!

Only thing I have to add is that sometimes the enemies don't die on one hit and it's not clear why, but having some enemies with more health is actually a good idea (as they just get knocked back but still prepare their attack, I can't just keep pushing forward and attacking carelessly) - just make them different so the player has to both notice it and plan ahead

hotdog 2024-10-11 10:48

Love the art style!!

zackfree 2024-10-11 11:16

I really liked the style and fun that you maked in game.

mranarion 2024-10-11 12:02

I really enjoyed the graphics vibe !

calcopod 2024-10-11 12:03

Amazing game. Loved the graphics, and the music, albeit not made by you, really made everything shine in harmony. The combat system was really fun!

Great entry!

winic 2024-10-11 12:03

Was a nice little game with a neat art style. It felt slow moving through the mazes and had more something of a puzzle game then a fighting game.

triggthediscovery 2024-10-12 02:14

Nice little game. Really liked the graphics. Felt like a melee version of Bezerk, if you are familiar with 50 year old arcade games.

conor-wilson 2024-10-12 02:26

Love the aesthetic of this one :) The final boss was particularly fun, and congrats on your first LDJam!!! This is an incredible first entry!

PS: Sorry to hear about your parents cats, hope the Jam has been able to help brighten your week

pietmichal 2024-10-12 18:03

A very enjoyable top down action game! My only issue is that the player sprite became difficult to distinguish when a lot of grass sprites were around. Congrats on first entry!

jellyfishhunter 2024-10-12 20:30

@blazzguy @gustavo-muller @vlad-russu @sharky3188 @pijinguy @thaunter @dean-goodson @brainles-etertainment @wouterk12 @hotdog @zackfree @mranarion @calcopod @pietmichal Thanks for playing! Glad that you enjoyed it!

@budaniel @holysparks To be honest, it's a bug that some enemies can withstand several hits as they're all only meant to withstand just one hit. But it felt right to keep it as is to have some more menacing foes. However I agree that in the long run I would have rather introduced separate enemy types.

@neoawesomeon @cliff-coffee @pietmichal It was my first time trying to do all visuals by myself and went with this simplistic retro style. I keep your feedback in mind for the future. Thanks!

@heiden-bzr Yes, some levels with confined spaces can be very hard, especially if you lost your RNA (your life) and can't get back to it. I tried different level designs to create different kinds of challenges. But perhaps some additional mechanics, like dashing through enemies, could help in these situations and still keep the game challenging.

@triggthediscovery Hah, nice! Unfortunately I'm not that old. My art inspiration was VVVVVV. Today I learned a new thing. Thanks!

@conor-wilson Thanks for the kind words. I've been through a streak of bad luck recently. LD56 really has been a little highlight for me. I had a lot of fun developing this game and still have fun testing all the other cool creations, so I'm doing well so far.

immensedruid 2024-10-12 22:37

Really cool legend of zelda like kinda game!

paulmag 2024-10-13 10:50

Very cool action game!

Sometimes the spiky enemies doesn't die on the first hit. It's not clear why. Do they have a random amount of hit points, or to they block my attack in some way?

A few times after getting hit by spiky guy, the spiky guy would remain stuck to me while I didn't have my attack available. Then I was just guaranteed to die the next time he attacked. Not sure if that was supposed to happen or if it was a bug.

sleepystudios 2024-10-13 19:21

Really loved the unique graphics - it fit the style and concept of the game so well! The combat was great, that perfect blend of knowing when to hit and when to run away was both fun and satisfying. Great work!

dgspitzer 2024-10-14 13:40

That style reminds me one of the levels from Yume Nikki! Really impressive art style!

hakimallazi 2024-10-14 14:11

it looks super interesting. I couldn't play as I'm only on mac.

jellyfishhunter 2024-10-15 15:14

@immensedruid Thanks! The old Legend of Zelda games were a major inspiration for this one.

@paulmag Both of the things you found were bugs I observed but didn't fix. However it never happened to me, that an enemy stuck to my head. That's very unfortunate.

@sleepystudios @dgspitzer Thanks for playing and thanks for the positive feedback!

@hakimallazi I'll make sure to learn how to export Godot games for web next Jam

hakimallazi 2024-10-16 08:56

Would you still able to upload it in itch.io? it won't affect the scoring as its just making it available to play on other platform. Let me know if you did!

jellyfishhunter 2024-10-16 15:10

@hakimallazi I've done some quick research. According to Godot's docs web exports won't run on macOS and iOS if developed with Godot 4 or greater. MICROSLAYER was developed with Godot 4.3, so I'm afraid it's not possible to export it for mac at the moment. I lack the necessary means to export it natively for mac. When support for that is added for Godot, I might look into it again. But right now it doesn't seem to be possible. I'm sorry :frowning2:

Can i get your contact information? fantastically dear jellyfishhunter, I love your game microslayer in ld56 so much, especially the fantastic graphic art effects. Please allow me to study creating wonderful pixil art from you. And we can communicate some other things about Game Development. My email is ceasiumzmj@gmail.com. I am looking forward to your reply. Love and peace, From ceaiumzmj 2024.10.17

ceasiumzmj 2024-10-17 14:34

Very fantastic! The best game in ld56! So beautiful the pixil art in games and particle bubbles, I feel like my love for original games is bursting! This game highly shows the essence of game itself, filled with feedbacks and addiction. The only drawback is that some enemies will attach to you and you cannot get rid of them, that's so disappointing. But at all the game is really good out of my expectation.

volkolak 2024-10-17 20:44

Despite its simplicity, the game is very cool. Music and graphics are combined, it's interesting to play. Great job!

cortez 2024-10-25 17:43

I wish we could have a restart in the boos room once we reach it! Nice game anyway, simple yet complete.
