I liked the ambience and the food acting as a guidance. As a fan of Quake games, I appreciate the movement.
It has potential, for sure, but I feel like it has been an experiment or a prototype more than a game itself. For 48 hours, making it 3D has a point, but I find it strange that the player movement uses the arrow keys while the camera movement uses the mouse. Overall it would act like a great base for a bigger project.
Definitely an interesting start with good potential, but it's definitely a bit rough around the edges. Using the arrow keys is fine, though a bit surprising at first when I'm expecting to use wasd and nothing happens. Click to jump is definitely very weird and unintuitive. I would have used space for that. There's also no way to pause the game and get your mouse cursor back, so you have to alt+tab to another window to close the game when you're done. Definitely feels more like a prototype/tech demo than a fully finished game. That said, it's a pretty fun game once you get the hang of it and I LOVE the vibe you've got going. The music and visual aesthetic are really well done. And given that it's as well made of a 3D game as it is in such a short time, *and* your first ever 3D game to boot, I can definitely excuse its flaws.
Nice vibe and handling, although WASD support would've been better (got funky arrows on my laptop, very inconvenient for these kind of things)
Thank you for feedbacks @pietmichal @braulio-jg @olsonexi @jack-d-taylor ! I just pushed a fix for people embarassed by original inputs in LD56_1_0_2.exe adding WASD / space / right-click controls whatever you want, fullscreen and being able to ragequit aha <3 cheers!
Pretty cool game but found the arrow keys and left click mechanics to be a bit tough to control. The atmosphere is very nice, I like the colour scheme :)
The controls were ... funky (I seem to have played the version before the fix. My bad), but it was fine. As others pointed out, while not necessarily a complete game, it could certainly work as a great prototype for something in the future.
Congrats on what you got done in this time frame!
I really like the atmosphere and art style of the game, but I'm a bit confused about the gameplay. (The number of decimal places in the top left corner could also be adjusted; the game is quite overwhelming.) But overall, it's a good game.
I had a lot of trouble seeing things in the dark, and the player movement was quite strange/floaty. Specific things related to movement that I noticed: - the camera doesn't rotate about its center, but seems to be positioned somewhat to the right of the center of rotation - This isn't a purely visual issue either: player collision moves with the camera, so rotating the view with the mouse is enough to fall off of ledges, even when you're not otherwise moving. - Pressing the jump button seems to "queue" the jump for later, so that pressing it while mid-air can cause a jump when you later hit the ground - Much of the level geometry is narrower than the minimum distance that the player can travel, so tapping a key to do a slight adjustment sends you careening over the edge.
Nice attention to detail! The small touches really elevate the experience
A neat little platformer(?) game. Good job getting this much done in just 48h! Atmosphere was nice, although I had to crank up my screen brightness to see anything in a few spots. Stairs etc. were a bit janky, but that's more of a feature for a jam game. Great work! <3
The strafe jumping is fun! The environment is a bit too dark to the point that it was difficult for me to see where I'm going. Also while I enjoyed the jumping I would have liked to have some clearer goal in the game. Still, great job on your first 3D game!
