LD56 — Tiny Creatures

Critter Club by someone 2024-10-11T09:38:03Z

I think you tied the game to the theme quite literally, and the idea is strong!

I think there could've been more work done to make the 'feel' of the game a bit better; a bit more time spent on how it feels to pick up and order creatures around. Some audio would've been nice as well, and perhaps more clear customisation on the 'trainers' you battle - with their only distinguishing characteristics being hair colour, I wasn't sure which ones I had battled before already.

But well done for a jam game, this feels like the start of a good Pokemon clone!

Tiny Rampage by LandoSystems 2024-10-10T11:27:42Z

A lot of polish with the hilarious voiceover, and the story! Really nice work. I think the player controller could've used a bit of work though - it felt a bit floaty and impossible to avoid the hazards at times. Some of the hazards were really small too, and I couldn't tell what the downside was to getting hit other than not being able to play for a few seconds, which felt a bit frustrating. It would've been cool to have different mechanics for each of the creatures you control too, but it's understandable given the time limitations of the game jam.

EMERGENCE by ccollider 2024-10-08T15:20:32Z

Took me a while to figure out how the game worked so maybe it'd benefit from an in-game tutorial moving forward, but I ended up really enjoying it! There was no way I was gonna make 999 lil dudes though. Maybe I was doing something wrong and I should've been speccing towards that from the beginning! I love the little radio chatter, the audio worked really well with the mood.

Boba Teeny by ScrapMetal 2024-10-10T11:15:52Z

Cute, fun beautiful game, I love the added touch of the coughing wound after sucking in! It feels good and the animation is really nice - my only gripe is that after getting bigger, it feels like your character pauses after picking up other boba.

Flea Patrol by Sviborg 2024-10-08T17:35:58Z

Fun! Would be good with some kind of mechanic that limits the amount of fleas you get in a level, to have some sort of lose condition - but I also enjoy the ease of the game, it was quite relaxing. I really enjoyed your levels, it made me eager to keep playing to see what the next level held! Neat graphics too, it works perfectly for the idea.

Miku's Minion Madness by Miku 2024-10-18T09:55:16Z

Fun game, well done, really well implemented for a jam! Came here after reading up your excellent behind-the-scenes devlogs.

A couple of notes: - There seems to be an issue with the audio - could be my side, but it would often speed up and slow down, which led to a lot of artefacts and distortion. - There could be better designed UI and battlefield units to match the high-quality artwork - the discrepancy between the two styles is a little off-putting - I had units following enemies all the way back to my side of the board, and sometimes would ignore enemies entirely - The balance of units was a bit confusing to me - there was a 3-cost for a 15/2, and a 4 cost for a 2/2. Sometimes they would play with multiple unit spawns and sometimes not!

I hope these notes help you improve the game and I hope you guys continue to work on it! Thanks for making it

FLY HARD by Erlioniel 2024-10-08T17:44:06Z

I love the random chat scrolling by, the random adverts that pop up, the emojis, the banner at the top, the sounds, everything! So funny and weird. I think the gameplay itself could be more engaging and more clear - ie. am I supposed to be holding down 'W' the whole time? Am I supposed to be avoiding the food and collecting the fire? What does the bar in the bottom represent?

But I do love the aesthetic, it makes up for the gameplay questions and makes this game worth a play for me. Well done on the art too, it looked really good!

Another Day by Monnettie 2024-10-11T09:49:34Z

Mostly going to be echoing what other people said - graphics are brilliantly simple and well executed, the writing is emotive and personal and lovely, the mood is so well set!

My only gripe is that I wished that after exhausting someone's dialog, instead of repeating it just didn't pop up anymore, as I basically always had to loop back to the start of a dialog to make sure I didn't miss anything. Perhaps that's intentional to drive home how repetitive daily conversations can be, and to avoid the player missing anything.

What a lovely game! One of my favourites so far. It just *works*, you know?

Planet Maxim by danielkozlov 2024-10-08T14:42:35Z

Got a score of 6282! I love the art, and it was really really funny. The poses the planet does during the attacks are so over the top and lovely! It was a bit difficult though, especially when the factories start coming in. Overall, this was really fun

Cat-tastrophe by rsheepdv 2024-10-10T11:53:07Z

Fun game, simple and relaxing. I wished I could just hold down my RMB and shoot multiple cats at once. Also had a similar problem to other people where some cats got stuck on edges and I couldn't bring them down. Felt like I had to adjust my mouse upwards every time after shooting as when I let go of the RMB my view would be lower than it was when I went into the aim mode.

Graphics worked well, and audio is simple and works! Well done!

Bug Bounty by woona 2024-10-08T15:50:58Z

Completed after 8 minutes, killing almost 800 enemies! This was really really fun. It's essentially the game we wanted to make, but couldn't code fast enough to get there! I loved all the animations, the character designs, the different mechanics. It was just the right amount of balance of difficulty. My favourite mob was the laser dude, so unique - and it made me start to path around the crowd of insects in a different way! The intro art was really great, and the character design of all the mobs and their little animations were awesome!

The scorpion took a TON of hits before dying! Like a surprising amount of hits compared to everything else.

One of my favourite games so far!

a pixie perfect fairytale by WeeFairyFabi 2024-10-08T15:01:18Z

Beautiful art, a lovely interpretation of the theme! Funny writing, too

davids vs. GOLIATHS by Fernofai 2024-10-08T15:33:19Z

Really fun, looks great too! Great gameplay loop, made it to wave 10 and it got really overwhelming. Definitely agree with a previous comment about letting you build more than 1 wall at once, but this was really slick! Eager to see more different types of enemies and units to build, and a way to heal your laser beacon would be great!

Tiny Creatures by Akarinn 2024-10-09T09:46:23Z

Screenshot 2024-10-09 104518.jpg The game didn't work for me! I couldn't buy any units and I just kept dying to the first wave over and over again. Was playing v2.0 downloaded from Itch! A shame because it looked like a really fun game, graphics were neat - wish I could rate it!

Bunker Ant by Codmen4000 2024-10-09T09:39:28Z

Great worldbuilding! I love the humorous poses of the skeletons, and there was food where I expected them to be after exploring. Was a bit confused as to why some of the foods had numbers at the end of the names. Also the mouse sensitivity was unbelievably high for me (I played on web.) Nice one, well done!

InFected by Skrelevsky 2024-10-08T14:26:22Z

I like the mood of the game, the art is well-made and I like the story! The fast crawling enemies felt impossible to deal with though, unless there was a health pack nearby. The mood would have benefited from a bkg music track more, and to offset the loud shots of the pistol. Overall, well done!

Tiny Terrors by Douuggggg 2024-10-08T15:35:44Z

@memz thanks for the feedback! and a good catch on sitting in the corner, we didn't even catch that! thanks for the feedback

and everyone else - cheers for the comments! appreciate it

Tiny Terrors by Douuggggg 2024-10-11T09:26:50Z

@bitluderrb7804fr thanks for that feedback! definitely something we noticed post-jam as well - hitboxes definitely needs to be tightened up! thanks for playing

Carbs vs Protein: A Scrote Jenkins Story by Tyler Whitehead 2024-10-09T10:05:05Z

Would benefit from some sort of explanation of what the resources top left do in-game - how much is required to build/repair, etc. Music is decent and a nice touch but the AI-ness definitely sticks out! Also the enemies are a bit toooo tiny for me to actually see them - same with the healthbars of the towers you put down.

Lint by turturi 2024-10-08T15:08:34Z

Fun and funny! The dialog works really well. The art is perfect for this! The animation is slick and the player controller feels great. I wish the volume was a bit louder though, and more effort put to the sound! Nice one.

A Fish Based Game by rodney fan 2024-10-18T10:10:56Z

I really really enjoyed this, came here after reading your posts! Managed to make it to the end by mating all the fishes together and getting one super-powered fish into each battle. Not sure if that's the way I was supposed to play, but it worked. Not much more to add after what everyone else has said - but the art on the post-it's worked super duper well, and the fish animation + behaviours were really stellar. I wish the combat was a bit more fleshed out, but I think the mating system has legs and can be really interesting! Overall - well done.

Critter Capture by TheXRLorax 2024-10-10T12:01:03Z

Managed to get all creatures on my second try! Enjoyed this game, a refreshing take. I wish I could've used my mouse to move the camera around, and click to take photos - I think that might've been a bit more of an intuitive player controller. I really like the 2D designs of the creatures - I wish their 3D model could've reflected them a little bit better! Also the ground looks a bit overblown in terms of exposure. Audio is simple and catchy, but I wish there could've been a bit more during gameplay to set the mood a little more - sound from the car, sounds when you get closer to certain critters, etc. But - a neat game, well done!

Stolen Colors by The Spinning Sofa 2024-10-09T09:54:13Z

Pretty cool idea and great graphics. Brutally difficult and a bit unintuitive to understand - took me a few tries before I realized I could spawn more than one unit at once if I did it right. Would have really benefited from a tutorial, eager to play more if the user experience is made more clear!

Particle Wars by NickHellquist 2024-10-10T11:36:00Z

Really fun game! Only gripe is the color palette - the enemies were near impossible to see, they blend in with the background way too much - but I think other people have covered that already! Also, timers would have been helpful - to see when my dash cooldown was up, to know when I would enter my frenzy state, and so on. Other than that, no complaints.

TinyDefense by Matimoo 2024-10-08T18:37:15Z

Fun game! Pretty tough for someone with colour blindness, it might have helped to have the different colours and monsters be different designs. Also sometimes the little dudes didn't go where I expected them to. But a neat mechanic and game loop, one I haven't really seen before!
