On my second attempt i died with 10 seconds left. Will try again to see if i can make it! Well done, I love the graphics and the gameplay is well implemented.

not good

taffaz 2022-04-04 09:41

Nice game, great visuals, couldn't quite figure out how to start fishing but when I did the stardew valley fishing mechanic was implemented well.

Minor issue on web build in that I needed to press escape to change the sensitivity as it was way to high but that took me out of full screen. Because it captured the mouse I couldn't go back into full screen without breaking the focus using the windows key. Maybe a button on the menu to close menu screen would be good.

Great job.

jk5000 2022-04-04 09:43

The idea is good, but the game feels a bit unfinish. The visuals and music is overall pretty good. Overall an okay little jam game.

badoomtch 2022-04-04 09:58

@taffaz I did notice the web build having the escape problem too! You can press P to open and close the menu on the web version. I did put text for it in the top right and mention it in the controls. Glad you enjoyed the fishing!

Fun little game. The low poly models look nice, especially the igloo. Camera movement is a bit too smooth and feels weird.

Small bug: in the HTML5 version switching fullscreen on and off while fishing messes with the fish position

zantze 2022-04-04 10:36

The character was constantly turning right for me which was distracting, but otherwise I really enjoyed the presentation and the small minigames with fishing and cutting wood were fun! Really ambitious entry and still a solid game! Didnt quite finish, only survived for 3 minutes or so //

Very pleasing graphics and fun gamplay elements, supprising ending for a short survivial game :D

bangthewall 2022-04-04 12:18

A simple game with a simple goal. But I froze to death because I didn't understand how to collect wood

Overall good, could use some sound effects for fishing and cooking (feedback). Good job on finishing!

atomicptr 2022-04-04 12:19

Took me a bit to realize how the fishing works, but I was able to "survive" (mechanically at least) until the end, good work!

james-7777 2022-04-04 12:20

Nice idea, I can see a lot of potential! The graphics have charm and the music was quite fitting. I struggled to get the fishing mechanic to work though, not sure if it was a bug or if I was just doing something wrong.

tiny-pig 2022-04-04 12:23

I wasn't too sure how or where to start fishing but I did eventually play the minigame which was pretty fun. The chopping down the tree minigame was something I hadn't seen before and overall I had fun.

graphite 2022-04-04 14:49

It took me a few tries to figure out how to fish and chop wood. You might want to reword the instructions for fishing. Perhaps to "Keep the fish inside the green bar". Overall though, it graphics were nice and there were some tense moments. Good work!

bubakgames 2022-04-04 16:00

Nice game. Love the graphics.

eli-haun 2022-04-04 16:52

very nice! I would day, the mouse sensitivity is VERY high (I was moving my mouse a hair and I could do a 360 spin). Other than that, I live the idea (I loved the fishing. Very reminiscent of Stardew Valley)

jefvel 2022-04-04 17:45

This game has a nice atmosphere, and the idea is cool! I got rescued (sort of :))!

There's quite a lot of just waiting though, and it gets quite repetitive after a while. But I like the idea of being safe inside the igloo, being surrounded by a hostile environment. There's definitely a start of something that could be built on to make an exciting experience all the way through! Like having more activities, and more things to explore.

Good job!

Beautiful, moody and generally really enjoyable game. A very solid entry for a 3d game done in compo!

I had some issues: performance was not great but it is playable. Controlling movement with mouse was a bit too floaty.. you can get used to it though. Took me some time to realise how to chop wood. When fishing there's no clear indication that you started the process.

Don't get me wrong though -- those are mostly minor issues. It's a beautiful game that's interesting to play and it has got potential to become something bigger! A job well done for 48h entry

I was recording my playthrough of your game so here’s a link in case you’d like to see it https://youtu.be/gFusdrtgKRk (sorry for low quality, youtube didn’t like my recording for some reason; I’ll re-process it and re-upload later) Your game starts at 53:29

Fun little game, very much appreciated the quality of life details that are so often missing in jam games.

ossi 2022-04-05 02:50

Even though I was at risk of freezing to death I did enjoy the cozy vibe of being out in the cool wilderness, fishing, gathering wood, and surviving. It did take me a while to notice that you need to click on the X's to chop the trees but once I knew that everything went well! Great work!

william-corrin 2022-04-05 03:49

Very well done on your game here. I have a lot of great things to say about it, with only some minor critical feedback.

The good: - Graphics are great; you have nailed the low-poly/minecraft aesthetic here - Polish on your artistic elements are present: the subtle flow of the ocean up and down that is visible through the watering hole, and the objects in the water are bouyant and move up and down with the ocean level - Snow particles, water particles, etc. are great - Nailed down the timing on surviving for hunger + warmth - Unique mechanics for fishing/cutting - The ship model coming to get you is pretty awesome, i love that you can actually see it approaching with your own eyes

The "I would add": - more SFX is needed in some places, like for when fish fly out of the watering hole, when you're done cooking fish, and a few other alerts (like for low hunger or low warmth) - I think the movement is frustratingly slow. I would love to see a trade-off of player choice: maybe you can sprint, but it kills your hunger meter faster - I love the two mechanics you added, but i want something else. Even if its just a different watering hole with different fish, or smaller trees with only 2 X's that only hand out 1 piece of wood: i think there is a little more variety needed in the things you can do - Similar to above, but the iceberg you are on is overall barren. Theres a lot of empty space - Nbd, I figured it out fast, but the instructions for fishing are incorrect - You can crouch but there is no reason to. I would love a smaller igloo that you need to crouch into and find something, even an easter egg with no effect on gameplay - The background music feels like its only 8 bars long and gets repetitive pretty quickly

Overall this was a really fun entry to play! I died the first time but "survived" the second time  nice job!

badoomtch 2022-04-05 05:11

@william-corrin I really appreciate your throurough feedback. Some of your ideas I just didn't think of, but some obviously came down to time constraints. I think I might work on the concept a bit more. Thanks again.

ladymarengo 2022-04-05 06:41

I love it! Took some tries but I managed to survive till the end :)

ani 2022-04-05 17:39

Fun little loop, I like the theme and atmosphere of this! I did find the soft camera movement a bit uncomfortable though.

nick-rafalski 2022-04-06 01:44

This was great! I really love little details like being able to burn the fish. The whole aesthetic is very cohesive between the chill music, the simple art, and the relaxed (but also frantic?) gameplay. Nicely done!

ramil-dev 2022-04-07 13:48

Great entry! Tons of work into it (3d, music, vfx, models, game mechanics) yet feels polished in almost every aspect, incredible for a compo game. Chopping and fishing mechanics are elaborated. It is cool that you can get better at the game by getting better at the minigames, in contrast to other survival games where the actions are automatic.

I also loved the SS Icebreaker coming. Got the bad ending though x).

2022-04-07 16:31

Really great! I loved the tree cutting mechanic, very unique but fitting. The fishing from stardew was fun to see. A really cool idea and would be great to see it fleshed out if you decide to do so!

Sensitivity was a bit high but easily changed, and I managed to bug the furnace out where I couldn't take the cooked fish or put a new one on, but other than that it worked perfectly!

jonah-srg 2022-04-08 20:22

This is a neat little survival sim. It's a bit slow paced, but the systems work well and I was compelled to survive after my first failure. Because all the actions correspond to time and your meters dwindling, it feels a bit like an idle game, but not in a bad way. The fishing system is just like Stardew, and I like it here even if it's a bit easier. The woodcutting with the X's on the trees is interesting, and I think it complements the fishing well when balancing time between the two activities. The movement and controls for various actions all work well, though I do wish there was a bit better feedback on the fishing controls for casting, hooking, and reeling. Really well done.
