That was fun! Took me back to computer architecture class lol. I got pretty far, but I'm not sure the score of "85%" is actually accurate, since the first time I played before the long run it also said 85%

I would have loved showing the score of some kind!

dblazer63 2026-10-19 04:08 ♥ 1

cool art style!

brimstone 2026-10-19 04:44 ♥ 1

@william-corrin and @dblazer63 Thank you so much for the feedback! And that was such a great idea to have the score display on the blue screen of death! I wish I added that, but alas :(. The reason it shows 85% every time was because I just ripped the image from google lol.

oadt 2026-10-19 08:28 ♥ 1

Simple but fun mechanic once you get a feeling how much each number moves the register. The negative numbers took me off guard, but managed to reach the end screen with one life left! The mini cut scenes are a very nice addition

@oadt Thank you so much!

rekk1d 2026-10-19 10:45 ♥ 1

This was definitely fun! At first I didn't quite get the rules since I'm not familiar with 8-bit registers, but I figured it out quickly and had a great time

brimstone 2026-10-19 11:00 ♥ 0

@rekk1d Thank you so much! I'm glad the game was understandable even to someone not familiar with 8-bit registers, as that was a concern when I was publishing :D

gevernus 2026-10-19 12:23 ♥ 1

"Dad is opening LegitMP3Player.exe" is such a good opener, and the BSOD as game over made me laugh. teaching binary by flipping bits is neat. i crashed fast and didnt really know why, too high or too slow? a line about the reason would help

brimstone 2026-10-19 13:57 ♥ 0

@gevernus Thank you so much! I actually wanted to add a little hint every time you got something wrong, but it was an hour before the deadline, and I was already shrimp-backed at my desk the entire 2 days XD, so I unfortunately had to skip it.

tasakasama 2026-10-19 17:05 ♥ 1

That was fun; it’s nice to see a bit of humor.well done!

helagos 2026-10-19 18:34 ♥ 1

Simple but very cool. I love the "cutscenes" messages between levels. The music is good. Great job !

rafa-fiedo 2026-10-19 20:00 ♥ 1

nice! and you have history behind! 'Dad, mom need something' :D very nice entry, I had fun with this!

@tasakasama @helagos @rafa-fiedo Thank you so much!

makkurataichou 2026-10-20 03:21 ♥ 1

Took me a while to figure this one out, but the vibes were immaculate and I love the art and sound design!! Had a ton of fun replaying and just figuring things out for myself, hehe. Awesome work!

brimstone 2026-10-20 03:38 ♥ 1

@makkurataichou Thank you much! Glad you were able to figure it out, as that was one of my worries when I was publishing :D

perrarancino 2026-10-20 12:03 ♥ 1

the 8 bit register mechanic is such a clever way to make old tech feel tactile, flipping overflow and underflow values until they land in range is basically the computer architecture class i barely passed, but way more fun. the art style is great too, the whole inside the machine framing works really well. did you design the ranges by hand for each level, or generate them? really nice little puzzler.

brimstone 2026-10-20 12:28 ♥ 0

@perrarancino Thank you so much! The registers are generated every round (I also had to implement a solver to make sure impossible rounds weren't generated O_o) so that the experience is replayable. Glad you found it more fun than class ;)

xedur 2026-10-20 14:04 ♥ 1

I completely misunderstood the game initially. I thought there was "something more" to it than just basic additions and subtractions. I'm still also not sure if the game really has issues with slow loading, or if that's just a part of the game. πŸ˜…

It was a fun game! πŸ˜„

vorondesan 2026-10-20 14:09 ♥ 1

Hi, nice and simple idea. Not sure why, but sometimes it registers an error whlie i`m certanly in range.

brimstone 2026-10-20 14:11 ♥ 0

@xedur Thank you so much! Did the game load slowly for you? I didn't get to test it on any other browsers.

brimstone 2026-10-20 14:14 ♥ 1

@vorondesan Thank you so much! Was the register already in range when you flipped a bit? If you did, then you lose a life because you need to press "let it through" instead.

vorondesan 2026-10-20 14:28 ♥ 1

Goti it, thanks. By the the way, there was no problem with load, almost instant.

samuli 2026-10-20 14:56 ♥ 1

Fun entry. I was able to beat it on my 2nd try. Loved all the little notices on what is happening on the PC.

brimstone 2026-10-20 15:38 ♥ 0

@samuli Thank you so much!

eugenik 2026-10-20 23:38 ♥ 0

I really enjoyed the challenge of having to manually manipulate those 8-bit registers to get the computer back online. It felt very satisfying to successfully navigate the binary issues and keep the ancient machine running!

brimstone 2026-10-21 02:48 ♥ 0

@eugenik Thank you so much!

jiri-hysek 2026-10-21 14:49 ♥ 0

Hey, nice little puzzle. Once I figured out what I'm supposed to do, it was easy, I must had somehow develop a sense for powers of 2 :D Although, time limit always stressed me out :) I also enjoyed visuals and I like you added a bit of humor too :) Screenshot 2026-10-21 at 16.47.13.png

we quickly find ourselves following the funny story :)

mikeware 2026-10-22 08:50 ♥ 0

> You probably know about 8 bit registers.

Not before bed... took me a bit to understand what to do, then was fine, it's just been a long day.

I think just a simple tutorial level at the start or a few more instructions in your write-up would have helped. Just even a "press one button to flip its state to bring the current value within the green highlighted range. If the button is already on the value will be subtracted, if it's off it'll be added". That was a big bit I struggled with initially too is that I could only flip one register, I kept trying to do multiple (though that could be interesting later on as another difficulty stage, but would need to be prompted).

I got tripped up by the negative numbers too, will have to play again to try and get to the end with more brain power.

brimstone 2026-10-22 10:13 ♥ 0

@fifut @mikeware Oh dear! I probably should have made a tutorial, I just felt that the dad's stages were slow enough that it would teach the game gradually. Thanks for the feedback though, I'll definitely keep it in mind for a future game jam entry :)

@ao-85 @uralys Thank you so much!

brimstone 2026-10-22 10:28 ♥ 1

@mikeware hopefully you come back to it fresh :D

milq 2026-10-23 12:22 ♥ 1

Great game! Using binary switches to keep packets inside a safe range is a brilliant way to teach binary while playing, and the red LED lives are a neat touch. Circuit board art with the CRT glitch looks gorgeous. Fantastic work, bravo to you!

brimstone 2026-10-23 12:38 ♥ 0

@milq Thank you so much! :D

@notnasiul lmao, hope you still had fun though :D

captaindreamcast 2026-10-24 10:54 ♥ 1

Aiiieee, a nailbiter finish on my third try!

winagain.png

I loved it, super fun game! At first it's tough when you try to do the math in your head with the power of two, but at the end, you just get an intuitive feel for "how far away" the numbers are, so even when the bar is minimal you can go "Yeah, that's probably a 128 distance" and fire away. Felt super good when it became natural like that. Also the music, plus the progression when it switches over to the son, perfect! I also loved the funny program names, they made me giggle whenever it switched over to something new, all the all stars where there, from the totally legit mp3 player to cracked photoshop lmao. Awesome game, great job!

brimstone 2026-10-24 11:23 ♥ 1

@captaindreamcast Thank you so much :D I was hoping the "how far away" feeling would become the engine instead of doing the math mentally, and it certainly has!

andriybyelikov 2026-10-24 23:37 ♥ 1

@andriybyelikov Thank you so much! One of my friends actually playtested on mobile too, and I'm glad it works just as good :D @coleslaughter And thank YOU for playing! Glad you enjoyed the music so much :D

Pretty cool entry! It was tricky, but made it to the end:

you_win.png

Random thoughts:

* First few tries, I didn't realize "let it through" was a button I could press, and kept losing to values starting in the green range. * Last few tries I lost to the negative numbers. I never really figured out how those worked, because sometimes it seemed like they made it impossible to get the right value. At some point tried to underflow the value (to see if it would wrap around to the top), but it didn't seem to work that way. Eventually got to the end, though, through a bit of luck. * Was fun playing through the game as it got more and more hectic. Never really looked too closely at the specific numbers. Early game I was eyeballing it because usually there was enough info to rule out the surrounding numbers, and late game the timer was restrictive enough that I had to make quick guesses at the right flip. * The disabled keys I think made the game slightly easier when they showed up, since it helped rule out options to decide between. * The mood shift in the music mid-way was awesome, and that second track is a real bop. Added a lot to the feeling that things were escalating.

@sudocoffee Thank you so much! I really should have made a tutorial, but I ran out of time. Glad you enjoyed the game and music though. I'll take a look through my generation and solver code to see if it is possible to generate impossible registers. If that's the case, I'll push a fix. Thanks so much for pointing that out :D
