Wow this is fiendish. Haven't even got a single line in my first try. Great game! My score was like 800 orso :P

caeonosphere 2018-04-23 07:39

Hahaha, the title screen and music reminded me of Stranger Things! Is that what you were going for?

I went in determined to beat your high score... and I quickly realized that it just wasn't gonna happen. So hard! But then... I did it? I only made two lines! I think I got 13,000 or so. I wish the collisions were a little less finicky, and that the physics were maybe a little more floaty. Also I ran into [pieces "connecting" diagonally](https://i.imgur.com/VZFT5nk.png) -- it would be cool if the floating piece settled down in that case. Cool idea!

mazzletov 2018-04-23 07:43

@caeonosphere Haha, yea I just watched Season 2 of Stranger Things. I couldn't solve this 'diagonally bug' yesterday, so yea it hopefully doesn't occur a lot. Thanks for playing!

Still 13.000 is crazy high!

dirtymoonz 2018-04-23 07:43

You were right, extremely difficult! I can't even play regular tetris well. Fun game though, and it looks great.

mazzletov 2018-04-23 07:44

@gemberkoekje, glad you describe it as "duivels moeilijk" ;)

jk5000 2018-04-23 07:53

The idea for the game idea is interesting, and both the music and graphics is super good. I am not sure if I did understand the trigger and alarm mechanics. But overall a very pretty and interesting little game.

mazzletov 2018-04-23 07:55

@jk5000 You will trigger the Alarm, if your blocks are all the way to the left. Thanks for feedback!

What was your highscore?

jk5000 2018-04-23 07:59

@mazzletov highscore 2400

memel06 2018-04-23 09:31

Woah! This game is awesome! Soundtrack resebles Stranger Things, that's really nice. And it's also a platformer! Because you have to jump over the mess you builded in order to save your life XDXD

I also suck at the normal tetris, so my highscore is really... a lowscore! XD thanks for your work, it's extremely funny and you nailed the jam theme! asddddddddddddd.png

poroh 2018-04-23 09:32

Awesome concept! I watched the game from the beginning, and it really maked solid and finalized. I mean graphics and sound and dramatic start zoom lol :) really enjoyed the game view and idea, but so hard to play for me :)

mazzletov 2018-04-23 09:38

@Memel06 Thanks for the feedback! You can really make a mess if you're not carefull where to place the blocks. It does get easier when you play more.

@Poroh Yea, I had to increase the overall atmosphere a little bit with the dramatic zoom :D I've also created a port to my Android Device and it is much more fun on a phone with touch than the space bar.

serious07 2018-04-23 09:43

I'm the worst flap tetris player in the world, it's too challenging for me. But I'm really liked it, music and graphics just awesome! Nice work!

zoglu 2018-04-23 09:52

Well I set a new highscore on 2nd try :v:

2018-04-23 11_50_18-FlapTris.png

Anyway, excellent take on the theme, I had a lot of fun trying to flap these pieces and loved it when I finally destroyed my first line :joy: The presentation, graphics and music were spot on too. Great job !

call-me-nutty 2018-04-23 10:01

Hi Mazzletov!

You have a good concept for your game here. Just some minor tweaks and it could be a nice little time-waster (not negatively of course).

The overall feel of the game was awesome. I sometimes cringe when I play other people's games and their movement is a bit rough, however those retries with the Rigibody really paid off. The game feels truly great.

The whole idea of combining Flappy Bird (which is a genre of it's own by this point to be honest) with Tetris was not only good conceptually but greatly executed.

The audio was nice (the snapping sound was especially satisying) but forgetful to be perfectly honest, yet added a nice bit of atmosphere. The visuals are great, while some of the colours used on the Tetris blocks could be changed (the Green doesn't really work well with Pink, Purple and Blue) it was still a pleasing game.

Ok, however my biggest gripe were the controls. When I realised that you had to click the capsules, eh, the game got frustrating. I like games that can be played independantly from the keyboard as it allows me to map half the keyboard to one hand. Having to use the mouse with R and Space ruined my hand to eye co ordination, especially in a somewhat fast paced game like this.

Pacing was also pretty insane. It doesn't seem like a game where you can go crazy, which is kind of necessary for these types of games (Imagine you didn't have those epic moments of skill in Tetris), being able to complete vertical lines would have been a good way of doing this.

Otherwise (before I fill up the whole page) it's a nice game, that requires some tweaking. I also encountered that game breaking bug (I assume?) I rotated a block into the wall and BLAM game died :(. Otherwise good job for the compo :)

mazzletov 2018-04-23 10:11

@zoglu Wooow! That's high. I've added your Highscore in the game's description so it can be there forever (if not beaten ofc)

@Call_me_Nutty Thanks for the elaborate feedback! When designing the game, I wanted it to be an Android game explaining the necessary clicking on the capsules. I've ported a version to my Android Device and the controls feel much more comfortable. I do share your opinion as it is quiet distracting if you have to use your keyboard and mouse and you lose focus of the game. Maybe a good idea, to implement a button to explode all capsules but this will diminish the tactics involved.

vinterskog 2018-04-23 10:19

Visually I find your game really appealing and the idea is really great. I think I need to practice a little bit though. :D

As for some negatives, the music is too loud. So loud that it's clipping actually. Although it sounds great, reminds me of the old MS-DOS AdLib days. :)

Another problem I found has to do with collisions. Have a look at this screenshot:

fbt.png

I think that the bar I marked with the red arrow should have gone down into the gap. That happened a few times to me.

Still, very nice entry. I'll keep practising. :)

mazzletov 2018-04-23 10:23

@Vinterskog, I also noticed that the music was too loud. It was 2AM yesterday and I was happy it was uploaded hehe. I didn't have time to implement the sliding effect yet, but it would certainly add to the fun factor. Thanks!!

andreadbx 2018-04-23 10:32

this game is very intresting and challenging, as an hardcore fan of tetris i can only like this :D just,i think this really need the feature to move the pieces for like 0.5 seconds after it landed, like in real tetris so you can fill gaps and the play area boundaries should be more evident, maybe a bigger border would do, overall very nice entry HISCORE.png p.s i think this is an highscore :D

beetrootmonkey 2018-04-23 10:57

(Haven't tried the game yet) Have you considered building your game with WebGL, so you could let people play directly in their browser?

krystof-klestil 2018-04-23 11:11

Hey I would LOVE to try this out, any chance of a MAC build?

lecalat 2018-04-23 11:12

Thats definetly an intersting twist to tetris. Makes it quite challenging to break even a single row.

mazzletov 2018-04-23 11:22

@Andreadbx NEW HIGHSCORE YES!

@Beetrootmonkey @Krystof-Klestil I could try adding these platforms when I get back from Work. I'll keep you updated

beetrootmonkey 2018-04-23 11:23

While I don't think your game is very innovative (I mean, you're literally taking two games and combining them), I really, really love the idea and how you managed to implement it. This clearly is one of the games that I will tell people about when talking about the jam.

zoglu 2018-04-23 11:25

@Andreadbx @Mazzletov oh craaaaap only by 60 pts, this calls for a revenge :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

zoglu 2018-04-23 11:32

There

2018-04-23 13_32_01-FlapTris.png

mazzletov 2018-04-23 12:05

@zoglu , ADDED :smile:

thezingthing 2018-04-23 12:15

One of the better concepts of the jam as well as one of the better executions i.e this game is pretty good! I can see some post-jam potential from this one.

eddynardo 2018-04-23 12:53

I love how you didn't settle for simple graphics even though it is a Tetris game. Music is on point too. I couldn't beat the Highscore but had a lot of fun trying. Well done !!!

selftitled 2018-04-23 15:57

That intro though <3 I was just restarting the game to watch that. I'd like to have an alternative key for the flip, on ther ight of the keyboard so I can use both hands.

leonard 2018-04-23 16:12

Simple concept but fun game. too hard for me, im bad at tetris so xD Maybe, should have more feedback audio and visuals.

firehawk 2018-04-23 16:34

It looks pretty nice. Yeap really. But I think it's a little bit harder, that I expected, when I was downloading this game. ))))

I think, you must call it TetriSouls ;)

creepyounguy 2018-04-23 17:20

Very well polished and aesthetically pleasing. Only problem I encountered is that a 2 by 2 block did not slide into a 2 block wide hole, presumably because it was moving so fast.

radical-dog 2018-04-23 17:39

I made a game with the same concept! It's interesting seeing how very different the games are, though, and we've approached a lot of the challenges with combining the two differently. Your art and music is really lovely.

mazzletov 2018-04-23 18:52

@Radical-Dog Haha yes  It is funny that we both had the same concept. I really like the flapping wings in your version! Great work. Did you also find the theme extremely difficult at first?

radical-dog 2018-04-23 19:27

Not really, I knew I wanted to make a small funny game and I had the idea quickly. Everyone has made so many weird combination games, it feels very different to other Ludum Dares with a more typical theme!

mao 2018-04-23 21:17

[57560 points](https://i.imgur.com/Xcz4tn0.png), thanks to some careful line forming at the beginning

There's just a few tiny things that separate this game from being something I would addictively play. Adding some more Tetris features, like counterclockwise rotation, a next piece indicator, a larger delay between piece spawns, and slightly longer piece lock delays, would make this perfect.

I had some weird luck during that game. Around 7 Z pieces spawned right after another. I just kind of tossed them on the bottom.

fashionbatman 2018-04-23 21:35

This is really hard and I'm not good at it. But it's such a good concept that I want to get better at it. Great job!

devemil 2018-04-23 21:59

Unbenannt-1.png

Well... I guess I'm 4th now! Really addictive and fun game, the collision feels clunky sometimes, but apart of that a very solid entry!

james-dunlap 2018-04-23 23:45

Very well done. I loved the graphical style as well as the music. It is a very interesting concept, but I did feel that the pieces locked in place a little too quickly. There were times when I would feel great that I had maneuvered the piece just right to fall back between another piece, but it didn't happen because it clicked into place immediately. In Tetris, you have a very short period of time to bump the piece over to the left or right. I was also a little weird to use the mouse and the keyboard at the same time and with keyboard keys separated like r and space are.

I did also notice what seemed like a bug (or at least to me it did, maybe it was intentional). If you click a capsule that is more to the right and a block with a capsule on it slides to the right, the capsule does not move with the block. This created some capsules for me that were of no use since they were not attached to a block anymore.

edj99 2018-04-24 02:32

By far one of the funniest games I've seen so far, and genuinely addictive too. Graphical style felt very polished, and the music fit the mood perfectly.

rainysolar 2018-04-24 02:54

This game is really hard because of the flappy bird style movement. But it's super cool for the theme. Make me laugh when I watch others playing this game. :D I think this game also suit " the inappropriate movement ", what a great design!

mazzletov 2018-04-24 06:49

@mao ADDED :D Thanks! Definitely the highest so far

@mao @fashionbatman @DevEmil @James-Dunlap @edj99 @rainysolar Thanks all for your qualitive feedback. I do regret not adding some small time delay before clicking the block into place, as time was up

legavroche 2018-04-24 14:00

Its like if Surgeon Simulator and Tetris had a child, in space, and then rotated 90 degrees.

saering 2018-04-24 14:03

Really cool games, had bugs sometimes with collisions but nothing that made me being unable to play and have fun!

freebo 2018-04-24 15:25

Great game, but superhard with the flappy functionality. Graphics, menu and the whole theme is awesome. Well done!

Please try out our contribution to LD41; https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/tour-de-france-legstrong

limered 2018-04-24 15:26

Awesome concept and flawless execution. I loved playing it. You nailed the flappy bild movement. It's very hard, which I like. Keep it up!

gastricsparrow 2018-04-24 15:59

That's a real killer combination! I suck at Flappy Bird but good to know that I suck at FlapTris even more :) . Jokes aside, I really like this as an arcade game. You made a real experience that rises beyond the sum of its parts, good job!

psiv 2018-04-24 17:36

So if the goal of tetris is to line up blocks to remove them, does this count as winning? :) flaptris.png

Bugs aside it is a fantastic game, the visuals and audio in particular are great, and the intro is top tier.

culin 2018-04-24 19:52

Fun game, but there seems to be a bug where a brick gets stuck in the ground and causes the game to freeze, im sure you'll get it fixed tho.Untitled.png

mazzletov 2018-04-24 20:14

@Culin @PSiv yes, it was one bug Icouldnt solved at 2 AM on Monday  Thanks for playing!

roy 2018-04-25 00:34

like the music and the opening animations, feels like a space thing :)

cincodenada 2018-04-25 06:53

This is a truly absurd complement, implemented wonderfully, I love it. In a field of all kinds of flappy bird variants, this one stands out as inpsired and clever, and it's very polished - the graphics, controls, and music are spot-on. The explodey bits are a great balance element too, to give a fighting chance. Very impressive!

mazzletov 2018-04-25 08:13

@cincodenada wow thanks for those kind words

noxbuds 2018-04-25 13:04

Got a score of 38,460. Pretty cool game, I like it - but the pieces feel a bit loose sometimes. And the capsule mechanic is a bit confusing at times :S

curt 2018-04-25 14:29

This is a great mash-up! I was so happy just to get a line completed that I yelled out "YES" in the middle of the office. Way to blow my cover.

blinkenlights 2018-04-25 20:17

Pity it's Windows-only. As a Linux user, I'd have liked to play it.

mazzletov 2018-04-26 05:52

@Blinkenlights I'll try to get that fixed today and also a Mac build

kristian-david 2018-04-26 07:25

I love the graphics and audio of this game. Getting a line is too difficult for me. The concept and idea is quite interesting. Overall you did a great job on this game

saintheiser 2018-04-26 18:08

Despite how interesting mixing of flappy bird and tetris I didn't see ulaggy implementation so far. Looks good, bombs saves my nerves. Good work anyway =)

ashtrail 2018-04-27 05:48

Nice game, the mechanics work well. I suck at both tetris and flappy bird so I didn't do so well. The intro shot is pretty cool.

My only gripes were the *.rar windows only google drive download* (hard to beat that :P) aaaand the title, it doesn't sound enticing (yeah that's some pretty severe nitpicking right there but flaptris ? at best you picture a magicarp doing aerobics, and I said at best).

The explosion sound could be better, and a little 'woosh' when you rotate the tetris would be cool. Otherwise the music went well with the game and the tetris sticking sfx was good.

Good job !

mazzletov 2018-04-27 05:52

@Ashtrail What do you mean with (hard to beat for the Windows only google drive) I was in a hurry uploading it to the Compo hehe. I didn't have any time to reupload another platform.

Thanks for feedback!

ashtrail 2018-04-27 06:01

I meant that it's the most anoying kind of download. You can add platforms whenever as long as you don't change the game. Consider compiling it for html too and adding both build to itch.io, it would make it much more convenient for testers ;).

timeload 2018-04-28 10:33

Absolutely love the game although I couldn't get past a few thousand points. I like to think I'm fairly good at tetris, but rotating everything on the side and then using flappy bird controls really shook things up.

randomphantom 2018-05-01 08:49

Cool game, although I feel that the gameplay here is even more imprecise - you can't move blocks reliably to the top and I met a few bugs (the line tetromino if on the floor and rotated will make the game get stuck, blocks not slotting in correctly etc) Nice music too!

mr-madcat 2018-05-04 12:08

Wow, this is difficult. Didn't complete a single line on first try ;)

Very cool idea. Triggering the explosions with the mouse was a bit confusing though.

But overall a pretty good entry.

saoi-games 2018-05-07 01:53

I'm not sure if you were able to see it, but I played your game on my stream at https://www.twitch.tv/saoigames tonight.

I was not able to clear a single row (column?) in this game. The way the Tetris pieces immediately stick when they hit is too unforgiving. There should be a button that allows you to let them slide downwards, especially since Tetris only works since you can slide pieces sideways into cracks if you time it right.

I also ran into multiple soft lock issues. Once was just leaving the game on the retry/exit screen after a match for about a minute or so. The retry and exit options were gone, and I couldn't figure out how to get them back so I had to force quit it. The other one was the first piece I placed somehow fell through the floor and the next piece never came.

With a little bit more polish this could be a good puzzle game

mazzletov 2018-05-07 09:32

@saoi-games Thanks for playing! I saw you had some problems with the collision detection and I know it was a problem but I couldn't manage to solve it in time. I already solved it but I think it's cheating if I reupload a new version.

It is a fiendish hard game, but you will get a lot better with some playing. You need to create a vertical row for it to dissapear and you also had the option to destroy blocks by clicking on the capsules, as stated in the 'extra info' in the left corner.

Thanks for playing!

floc 2018-05-07 21:09

Wow ! Really addictive game ! My highter score is 5680 but after it's so hard ^^ Congrats for your work, it's nice, there's pleasant graphics and the music is cool with its 80's vibe :)

lucas-hoffmann 2018-05-10 16:50

What can i say?? You may win this jam. Nice job!

cristiano-m-garcia 2018-05-12 21:28

I loved the idea. Very difficult game but very fun. In addition to the bombs, there might be some object that could be used to clean a few times during the game. The speed might even be slower and I think that the feet could hold the position longer before they fell to be able to pass or fit into certain positions needed to fill the line. Congratulations!

I left my rating of your game, if you can leave your feedback in our game, Witch's Escape.

I hope you continue with the project.

strangeryann 2018-05-13 10:49

OH MY GOD! YOU'VE CREATED A MONSTER! SAVE YOURSELVES, AAAAAAAAAAAAAAH *sirens in the background* - lol no OK in all seriousness this is a surprisingly good game, well done! I feel there should be a special achievement for making a tetris line in the game because it is, cmon - I was a bis frustrated by the mechanics sometimes when your piece is slotted to go in the hole you want it to be and you time everything right but it stops half way, CMON ^^# and yeah it's really surprisingly satisfying and addicting game... well done and see you in 4 months for the #42 edition, I can't wait :-D
