LD32 — An Unconventional Weapon

Monster Detective Agency by OddballDave 2015-04-25T19:13:00

Not bad! Couldn't find Mr. Big so I just arrested T.J. :P I feel like the game world might have been a bit too big for the mechanics. It also would've been nice if gathering information involved a bit more than walk up and walk away. Overall though, good experience, good mood, and a solid game.

OPERATOR 42 by TravisChen 2015-04-21T03:32:00

Although I sadly got stuck after the fire. I LOVED the game! The humor is brilliant and the gameplay is original!

Underload by Taldius 2015-04-21T03:45:00

I didn't really understand the game at first but the idea of firing your wheel at them is interesting. The random messages were kinda funny. Good job overall.

This Fart of Mine by rodrigomotta 2015-04-21T02:58:00

Not bad, the idea is somewhat funny and the graphics/audio are well done. The quotes are pretty hilarious!

Crump Rush by OnlySlightly 2015-04-26T03:34:00

Cool idea, well executed. However, it's WAY to hard. I couldn't get past one of the first levels with the saws. Overall, well done.

The Great Debate by MiniBobbo 2015-04-21T01:59:00

Love the idea and it was well executed! The art is great and the mad libs aspect is pretty funny. Great job!

Space Boy by Hyoga-3D 2015-04-21T17:44:00

Good game, not sure the theme was used that well as spaceship with lasers is pretty conventional. But the game overall is a blast to play.

Dischord by Wefiends 2015-04-21T01:55:00

Wow... That was amazing. I don't know how much content there is(I didn't get too far) but as long as it had a decent level of content I would pay for this! If you develop this past Ludum Dare a small suggestion. I think co-op online multiplayer would be a lot of fun.

ForgeCraft by Stals 2015-05-08T06:58:00

Wow, this is very interesting. Great graphics, good sounds, solid gameplay. Well done.

SolarGun by Acrimiens 2015-04-21T01:32:00

I really want to check this out but it seems to be crashing...

SolarGun by Acrimiens 2015-04-21T19:23:00

Didn't get far but an enjoyable and interesting concept!

Fathom by Joe Williamson 2015-04-26T06:52:00

PERFECT SCORE! Great work in ALL areas. Would love to see a post-jam version somewhere.

Inkling by Pixel_Reaper 2015-04-21T18:00:00

Interesting idea, well executed. Pretty hard but enjoyed.

Genemon by Pietro Ferrantelli 2015-04-21T02:26:00

Well, I'm sorry about your roll back, however, I REALLY enjoyed the game! I hope you develop it past Ludum Dare to finish it and maybe include multiplayer? I really love the idea and the game turned out great!

Genemon by Pietro Ferrantelli 2015-04-21T07:13:00

Do you have plans to take this past LD? I'd LOVE to see it.

Gravity by suurin 2015-04-30T17:40:00

Not bad, however aiming the gravity switching mechanic seems very buggy and I couldn't figure out how to get past the first "real" level(The one that says something about a real game.)

Flail Rider by jushii 2015-05-11T23:34:00

Great job! Fun mechanics, good graphics. Well worth playing.

A Gun That Shoots Bees by ShaunJS 2015-05-11T23:15:00

Great art, great sound, great gameplay, fun theme! Well done!!!

Vocal Power by JohnGalt 2015-04-21T01:25:00

Might want to have signified which levels were easier and the "go home" mechanic felt unneeded but the game was innovative and interesting! I very much enjoyed it!

Crystalline by TheMeorch 2015-04-21T18:21:00

Wow, you have a really complex and interesting mechanic here, yet you present it in such a way that it is easily understandable. It reminds me of Portal. The graphics are GREAT, the mechanic is GENIUS, the level design is challenging and interesting, the mood is PERFECT and overall the game is just brilliant. Well done!

BitGun by TajamSoft 2015-04-21T18:47:00

Nice job! Controls feel a little slippery but overall good game!

Giant Spiky Ball of Death by RobotHoboDanceParty 2015-04-21T02:41:00

Cool game! High-score of about 30 secs. Cool idea and great graphics! The acceleration feels a bit slow but I enjoyed overall!

One Man Band by Curial 2015-04-28T19:04:00

Very fun concept! Well executed on all fronts. Only problem I ran into is when I ran out of time the box kept coming up until I hit retry.

Hat Attack by funisfun8 2015-04-21T07:22:00

Cdrch, the vertical drops were for exactly what you said, however it was also due to the fact that most of the levels were made in 5 minutes each trying to get them done before I had to go to work! XD

Coloring World by SowiHowl 2015-04-21T17:36:00

Well done! This game is innovative and fun. The graphics are also brilliant! The death messages mocking you were actually quite funny instead of annoying or frustrating. The controls were odd at times(maybe the color controls should have been Q,W,R instead of Z,A,E.) they felt kind of odd on a QWERTY keyboard. The level design was also very good. Overall wonderful job!

Crazy Baker by Hammer Games 2015-04-21T02:36:00

Not a bad game, got bored after a little while but I assume that's due to the endless nature. Graphics are beautiful, music is great, and the theme is well used. Good job!

ink by quill18 2015-04-30T18:03:00

Wow, came here from your post-mortem video. DANG! Great job! The game is innovative, interesting, has a fun theme, great mechanics, and overall just VERY well executed!

LD35 — Shapeshift

Her Home by Lancelot Gao 2016-04-19T17:44:00

To be honest. I don't really get it. I kind of see the metaphor you point out. But it wasn't very clear. Sadly, this is also true of gameplay. I kinda got it, but didn't fully grasp it enough to finish Lvl. 2. What is it that happens after I run out of hearts? And throwing the boxes was a bit of a pain. The music was pretty good though a little repetitive. But the collection sound is SO annoying. My siblings came in to tell me to turn it off. Anyway, interesting idea. If you added to the level design to teach the mechanics a bit better and changed the collection noise, it'd be great. Anyway, I really don't want this review to seem too negative. I enjoyed the first level and with a bit more training I'm sure I'd enjoy the rest. So, well done overall.

Shape Shifter by Slothmachine 2016-04-23T17:25:00

Really polished, good mechanic. Great job! It reminds me of that peg hopping game. http://www.joenord.com/puzzles/peggame/4_easy_win_from_here.jpg

You can't move too far away or you get stuck :)

The monster and the mouse by albinobat 2016-04-21T07:18:00

Pretty difficult. But it's a blast to play. Graphics were definitely above average. Audio pretty good too. Really innovative idea that fits the theme PERFECTLY. Pretty well executed as well. Like I said the difficulty needs some tweaking. (DARN YOU PORCUPINES!) But the gameplay is solid, wonderful work.

Hedron Collider by ProgrammerSteve 2016-04-21T06:10:00

Nice game! Nothing really new and not the strongest tie to the theme but it was very well put together. The graphics were simple but nice. The music is quite good which is important for a rhythm game. Great work.

Pinata Mania by funisfun8 2016-04-19T19:09:00

Apologies! I didn't realize a data folder was created!

Trionic by djfariel 2016-04-23T17:57:00

Gonna be honest, I couldn't find the door in the first level. I went back to find the door after finding the button and it wasn't open, so I think it must be a different door. I think this is probably me and not your design. Maybe a minimap would be nice for noobs like me though? Lol. I love this game. It is SO well polished. The idea is solid and so is it's execution! The graphics look great, the music is awesome, the mechanics are intuitive and fun. Well done! P.S. PLEASE make a post-LD version. With some more time I could really see this selling on Steam.

Critter Creation by edgeofcode 2016-04-19T18:22:00

Fun little game. Not the most innovative mechanics ever but you really used them to it's full potential. Great job!

Tito's Revenge by brinkhousegames 2016-04-20T18:16:00

Nice graphics, good audio, don't care for the theme but that's a personal thing, Gameplay isn't the most original but it is well tuned and fun.

Shapeshifting With Science! by TeamKawaiiju 2016-04-19T18:14:00

Agree with the other comments. Mechanics with good potential. But I got lost and bored. Sorry. On the bright side the mechanic is really interesting. Needs some work but it has a lot of potential.

Shipshift Pronto by KhaoTom 2016-04-21T06:53:00

Interesting concept. It was a bit frustrating. To be 100% honest, I got a little bored. I feel horrible saying that because I can't imagine how that would feel but I honestly lost interest. Just one persons opinion and this isn't exactly my genre. Hope you do well in the ranking.

Boolean Differences by ruchirbapat 2016-04-20T04:26:00

Movement is a bit hard to control. But the mechanics are fun and I enjoyed it.

Ball Blitz by Dante2001 2016-04-19T04:11:00

Well... I shot right through a few walls by going full power and the buttons render under things sometimes. Other than that this game is READY FOR RELEASE! Seriously I got would have finished it if I hadn't gotten stuck on level 46... The only other thing I have to say is that I think the fast moving obstacles kinda ruin the calm aesthetic.

ShapeShot by retrograze 2016-04-21T07:03:00

I REALLY like this entry! The mechanic is interesting, the gameplay is fun. The graphics are simple but the audio is really good. Also, the puns on the game over screen are amazing. "Rekt-angle" LOL! Love the entry, great job!

Squarcle by bagface 2016-04-20T03:48:00

Fun mechanic! I love how the first level entirely teaches you the mechanic. Graphics aren't the most complex but that's OK! Music and audio is fine. Overall, great job!

Tri, Cube, Hex by mikedesjardins 2016-04-20T18:20:00

I'm sorry, how do I start the game? I don't see any enemies? It just says a to join. I joined, I tried the controls, and I can't figure out what to do. Help?

Combibox by pogo 2016-04-23T17:21:00

I really enjoyed this game! It was fun to play, looked great. And felt very polished. It also feels like something that would play very well in VR. I think it fits the theme OK since you combining shapes into a different shape. It's kind of loos but it works. My one real complaint is that I never saw my score since there was no attention drawn to it near the end. Showing the score on a GUI popup or flashing the screen would draw more attention. Also, it would be nice to have something to click before going back to the level select. Oh! By the way, I LOVE the level select. It's very polished looking and quite nice. Thanks for the awesome game, great job!

Block Dropper by blockdroppers 2016-04-21T06:20:00

Pretty good. Slightly frustrating and confusing with the jump to position system instead of a move by one. Quite interesting and well put together. Good job.

LD38 — A Small World

Routine by Breno_M 2017-05-19T04:30:27Z

Great mood and graphics! Gameplay is pretty unique as well! My ONLY complaint would be the difficulty. It took me a while to figure out what was going on and I couldn't sole the 4th puzzle. However, I was so engaged by the core mechanics I tried for quite a while! Great work! EDIT: OH! One more thing. COMPLETE THIS GAME! If you added to this, tweaked the difficulty, and polished this to a shine, I would totally buy it.

Little Sprout Garden by Valmay 2017-05-19T04:00:48Z

Wonderful visuals! While it's not something I would play a ton, it's definitely enjoyable and could be very interesting if more interactions and items were added. Maybe items could combine effects in a way?

Small World by JimmyBG 2017-05-19T03:40:04Z

Well, first things first, the game LOOKS great! However, the controls are quite buggy and I got stuck on the level where the grappling hook is introduced. The mechanics are interesting but need refinement and possibly some more variety though I don't know how much the mechanics were developed later on in the game. Overall though it has potential. Hope your able to do more with it!

LD46 — Keep it alive

The Angel Recording the Truth by Kevin Prehn 2020-04-24T04:50:13Z

Fascinating idea! I'm not familiar with this concept, but it was really great to learn about it through this game. I had a little trouble with the last couple levels but that could just be me playing this while I'm too tired. Audio and graphics weren't particularly memorable, but they seemed to serve their purpose. Overall, I love that you went with an educational game! Neat idea and great execution for the time given!

Vinyl Hills by MatthewPoletin 2020-04-21T02:40:10Z

A really neat idea, however, in practice it's a bit frustrating. The comments overlap each other and sometimes go off-screen so it's hard to tell what said, making some points lost feel unfair. In addition, it seems you get very little "health" from kicking out bad comments, but it is really easy to lose points. Maybe I was just missing something, making it too difficult? The game is a great idea, but I think it might need a little more polish on the execution to be fun.

Lemons! by funisfun8 2020-04-21T05:33:00Z

Hey guys, I have uploaded a new build fixing the issue. Thanks for the heads up! I know you all must be busy and have lots of games to check out, but I'd really appreciate you giving Lemons! a try now that it's fixed. Thanks so much.

@techsec @lepletier @bradcode @xbcw @sunday-driver @alex-horstman @istaera

Tiny Fragments by Daniel Moreno 2020-04-21T06:13:49Z

Wow. So, I don't think this game had the strongest connection to the theme, and the music got a little old after a while... Other than that this game is just about perfect! If you don't add more content to this and do a full release, you are doing the world a disfavor. I also want to point out that the game was very intuitive. There wasn't really a text tutorial, but I was able to figure everything out.

Desktop Garden by 0x0 2020-04-24T05:28:03Z

Very innovative, and tied together nicely with some great graphics and sound. That said, I couldn't really figure out what I needed to do or why I should do it. This feels like a neat prototype of the mechanic that still needs the game built around it. For now, it's a **really** neat little toy!

Embers by Anuke 2020-04-24T05:49:29Z

Well done! Some really great art polish and I actually really enjoyed the music and sound. The atmosphere was excellent for this sort of game too. However, I didn't feel like I had anything to work towards. I could see a progression system (better tools, different enemies, etc), but it didn't feel like it was leading anywhere. This feels like a great game for a Subnautica style narrative-survival game. Hope you continue to develop this, I certainly had fun!

Grow by BlackShadow1Games 2020-04-21T06:02:50Z

Crashed after the first message. @ me when it's fixed and I'll try to come back!

Remember, Apollo by AdamCYounis 2020-04-21T06:36:45Z

Super neat game! Art was gorgeous, music/sound was good, mechanic was interesting and fairly well implemented. I also loved the way you handled story with each node having dialog and paths/rooms being extra but adding to the story. I have to say though, I have a few critiques.

For one, I didn't entirely understand the ending. Was it some kind of metaphor? Did the hunter construct a false memory of the deer because he shot his beloved? Was the girl the deer ***THE WHOLE TIME?!*** Or did he just like... shoot her by accident because he was blinded by his ambition? This is probably mostly a personal thing though, so I wouldn't worry too much about it unless it's common feedback.

Secondly, the main mechanic was somewhat inconsistent in difficulty at times. Sometimes, it felt like mechanic would almost cheat for you, snapping to nodes I wasn't really close to. Other times—like in the secret room—it was **really** hard to get where I wanted to, and it felt like luck when I did. This wasn't, *too bad* getting into the secret area, but very annoying getting back out. This is probably something that just needs a little more polish than a jam allows.

Anyway, I enjoyed it! I feel like it's really brave to do something with a serious tone for a jam like this so I applaud you. Thanks for the game!

Carnivorous Bananas by Spice Cabinet 2020-04-21T02:58:39Z

Some wonderful art and a fun idea! Not particularly complicated, but well executed! Question, are the bananas spawned randomly or based on a predetermined sequence?

Blocked Out by Volcano339 2020-04-24T05:06:45Z

A simple idea well executed. That said, the idea may be a bit... too simple. This definitely feels like something you'd make as a second or third game when learning. There's nothing wrong with that of course, but it doesn't feel very ambitious for a jam, especially paired with simple graphics and sound. The gameplay was also rather simplistic and as such I was only able to play a few rounds before I felt like I had done the best I could and had seen all the game had to offer. I do want to say though, I understand the tight time limits of a jam and I think there is something to be said for doing a simple idea very well rather than a complex idea alright. Overall, I would've loved to see either a lot of graphics/sound polish or a unique wrinkle to shake things up.

Pass it On by Ryan Jung 2020-04-21T03:22:53Z

I think this is the best game I've played yet... My first round I just started cackling like a maniac. I then immediately grabbed my sister and her Fiance so they could try the insanity. I think the game could use more phrases (I saw a couple repeat which took the fun out of guessing) but this is just about perfect already. Expand and polish this and you have a viral social game on your hands!

LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

Golf with Guns by Issac 2018-04-27T07:05:54Z

Once the difficulty ramped up it started to get a little frustrating, but really fun over all!

Super Turbo Fishing by funisfun8 2018-04-29T01:36:50Z

Thanks for the comments everyone! Most of these things I planned on but ran out of time for. I'll definitely consider cleaning this up and throwing together a little multiplayer game.

Super Turbo Fishing by funisfun8 2018-04-30T00:33:48Z

@thebreakfast & @sebbernery

Ah, I know what you're talking about. I ran into that once. No idea what causes it. If I develop this further I'll have to look into that...

Super Turbo Fishing by funisfun8 2018-05-01T05:20:47Z

@jackrugile Thanks for the overview!

Claustroom by Wendel Scardua 2018-04-27T07:25:30Z

WELL DONE! It would be great if the ceiling was a hologram of some sort so you could go through it and not be crushed against the ceiling. Overall, really cool idea, well done.

Puttsy by morrilet 2018-04-27T06:57:41Z

Super cool idea! I'd say it's more Puzzle x Golf than Tower Defense x Golf. Very well polished! As I saw someone else mention, it would be great if the board didn't reset when you have to retry. Very well polished, could use some more developed & stylized graphics, would be nice to have a bit of a tutorial, and obviously some more towers would be awesome. Keep in mind this advice is for when you develop this further(which you should) not critiques of the LD version. Super well done!

Lost Without You by jackrugile 2018-04-27T07:32:37Z

Wow! Just WOW! If you don't develop this further it's a waste! Throw a good, deep, mystery story in there, some interesting level elements/gimmicks, and you've got yourselves a HIT! This game is incredible. Let me know when it hits Steam! I'll be there with my $20-$30!

Trishoot by Kornel 2018-04-24T17:21:21Z

Very well done! quite a clever combination of the mechanics. I could totally see you expanding this with special bullet types and new enemies and such. Clever idea, excellent execution!

Check, Please! by swav_gav 2018-04-27T07:58:12Z

Great concept, execution could use some work. If there's some sort of scoring system it's not very clear. The mouse sensitivity was WAY too low; it needs to be adjustable. It was a bit short but I assume that was just the time constraints. Could be a REALLY hilarious game if developed further. Hope you do!

Tennis Hero by JeffChen 2018-04-24T18:34:20Z

Cool idea but I had a lot of difficulty aiming. Not really sure how you're supposed to do it to be honest...

Rhythm Overdrive by Diblow 2018-04-29T04:02:06Z

_So..._ **when can I put this on my Steam wishlist?!** This was amazing! I wish you could of heard the joyous, maniacal laughter I involuntarily emitted while dancing in my seat playing this game. It's an EDM, 80's, laser, firework, techno-magic, shooter, EXTRAVAGANZA! The graphics are beautiful, the music choices were great (though I prefer the instrumentals, the last song wasn't my thing,) and the execution was just about PERFECT! ***Get some songs licensed, build some levels, throw in some new mechanics and features and call it a day!***

That said, a few requests for the future: 1. The ability to import our own music. I know games have done this before, but give us a level editor and let us go nuts! 2. I'd love it if the enemies moved EXTRA whenever there were extra drum beats or other rhythmic elements... though that might increase difficulty. 3. I'd love it if the bullet firing was on some fraction of the beat. Like super fast laser hi-hats.

Rhythm Overdrive by Diblow 2018-04-29T22:06:30Z

@Maxime Catel What I meant is you could give us a level editor. Many people would be willing to manually input a BPM. You could even give a tempo tapper to use. Then, we could listen through the song and set up sections of different intensity for enemy generation(or different depending on how it works behind the scenes.)

I totally get what you mean about detecting the BPM, every game I've played that claims to detect rhythm is never quite right and it pulls you out of the experience. Hence, why I suggested you should give a manual level editor that could export some sort of text file to be paired with different custom songs(you don't want to be responsible for people distributing music, that would be a legal nightmare.)

Spiky by Cristhor98 2018-04-24T17:48:07Z

Very innovative idea! I'd love to see this taken further. This could definitely be a full commercial game. The presentation is amazing, graphics, sound, everything! However, given the high level of quality, I feel the need to be a little tougher on the game as a whole. I just have a few critiques:

1. I really didn't like not being able to see the level as a whole. It was fun to think about how to traverse obstacles; it was not fun to make blind leaps of faith. 2. The lose condition isn't clear enough. It seems to be you die if you don't touch the goal by the end of a turn unless you grab a crystal? This could be clearer. 3. Spikes aren't fun. With them being on a real-time clock, it really doesn't add challenge, (just frustration,) and I don't feel they reinforce your main mechanic (turn based platforming). I do feel that they could be really interesting if they acted on a per action timer though, (changing state every so many cards or whatever,) in fact I'd add more obstacles and elements that interact with both the player and the flow of cards. 4. Small note, but given the other issue, when I died, I was frustrated to wait for the game over animation to end. It's not long, maybe a few seconds, but it feels long when you just want to try that again. It's a puzzle game, when you've figured out the puzzle, you don't want to wait to implement the solution. :)

All that said, I really enjoyed Spiky. Very well done! I hope you take this further, I would love to play a more polished version of this game. Take the feedback from this thread, and go make something amazing for us to play!

Spiky by Cristhor98 2018-04-24T18:54:06Z

@Giantswing Of course! This game really deserves to go beyond LD. If my feedback can in any way help with that, I'm happy to do it!

Pinball Gardener by KianaMosser 2018-04-30T00:07:27Z

Nice look, great sound. Interesting concept, but the execution could use a little work. The two sides of the game are well built, but not connected enough. Though, to be honest, I don't have any specific ideas or critiques. But if you could figure out how, I would try to connect them more. Oh! You should make it so that if you are out of money and stuck, it game overs. Anyway, nice concept, and solid execution, design could just use some tinkering. Well done!

Super Ice-Cream Roller Ultra by Probe31 2018-04-26T05:30:28Z

Interesting concept, beautiful graphics, but unfortunately the controls kept me from enjoying it. The controls take you in cardinal directions instead of being relative to the player. This threw me off a lot. The isometric view really didn't help either. The control issues are also worsened by how slippery the character feels and how big he is/how small the platforms are compared to each other. Would love to give this another go if the controls were improved. Sorry if this was a bit of a downer! :slight_frown:
