I really liked the graphisms and the overall mood of the game but the camera was sometimes awful I had some weirds bugs fall.png

The controls are abit whacky, the camera needs some work, but other than that, the concept is great, it just lack some refinements, it's a great game!

I liked the overall concept and the mood was set well. Great entry for your first jam, Craig :)

I like the concept and the game was fun. I feel like is a game that suits a controller. Theres a few collisions here and there ... but the game was super fun.

It is a fun game, there is a lot of polishing that you can put on top of it. What I really like about your game is that it has nothing on the UI, which is perfect! I love games that only put things on the UI if its really needed. Keep up the good work!

Really liked it. Self explanatory and the gradual difficulty increase is really great to keep on playing going over the rooms. However, the movements are a bit jerky at times, it also often feels it fails to jump for no apparent reason. The sound, mood, minimalistic graphics are great. The trailer intro when the room makes it itself sets the tone neatly.

i like that you have to run through a level first to get to the switch, then race fast through that area again. it's pretty smart design.

the platforming needs some love. i think for me the biggest thing was that floating objects & the player needed distinct shadows on the ground so it's easier to figure out depth/jumps.

i also got kind of a weird horror movie vibe from this which is pretty cool

The game had some glitches but nothing game breaking. It had good music and created a feeling set the mood well.

I liked the tutorial on the wall, nice way to introduce the controls.

I liked having to play every level twice. Once on the way to the button, kind of like a practice run, the then panicked trip back.

Some suggestions or bugs: 1) It would be nice to have a blob shadow projection below the player. It's kind of hard to judge jumps without it! 2) voice seemed a bit too quiet. 3) Level 10 it wasn't immediately obvious that you had to wait for the platform. I thought it was broken at first 4) I think Level 8 actually broke at one point. The first spiked wall didn't come out on one of my attempts, only the 2nd one did.

But I beat it! The game set the mood really well. Wish I had used a gamepad!

@jamison great feedback, I really appreciate that thank you!

Is this the Dark Souls of LD42? Or I just suck at jumping? LOL. Pretty good game. I like the mood and the character animation. The music also adds to the atmosphere. Good job!

tobiasvl 2018-08-16 06:20

I like it a lot! With some polish on the graphics (at least add a shadow, like everyone has said) and maybe physics (the jump feels very floaty), this'll be a cool game, not "just" a cool jam game. The "UI" is great, makes me think of Antichamber. And yes, it gives me a horror movie vibe too. Maybe Cube?

jamison 2018-08-16 08:05

Oh, I also liked the bit of strategy and planning required when deciding when to press the button, based on where the platforms are.

mikixen 2018-08-16 09:47

The concept fits nicely with the theme and I think the overall gameplay is engaging. I like the story the game tried to tell and the music was great! The maps were nicely designed - from the starting room to the hallway and puzzle rooms. I think that focusing on making the jump feel smooth and intuitive is important since it is the core mechanic of the game, and some changes (such as adding more visual cues, or making it happen at a slightly slower speed from normal movements) may help! Cool entry for first LD!

My first observation is that the game has an atmosphere and pacing of a puzzle game, but is a platformer instead. Jumping is unresponsive and unreliable, character is just sliding on platforms, and the perspective takes some getting used to. I think these areas need most improvement right now. That said, I really like the music and overall mood of the game.

Cool game. It reminds me of Minecraft Storymode. I really like that feeling.
