Awesome job! Loved it, so much attention to detail and a brilliant concept, you've left me thirsty for more! Really impressive :)

The tone of this game is brilliant, I really liked the contrast between the different areas... even if my inability to read meant I got stuck for a long time

I got a message "Failed to load mono" when I tried to start the windows version.

octopussy 2021-04-28 20:15

This is actually very intruiging! With some additional work this could be really nice adventure game.

kszaku 2021-04-28 20:18

I liked reading notes, and piecing together what I've had to do. Also portals looked amazing :)

tomatolamp 2021-04-28 20:28

Really liked the atmosphere and the puzzle solving aspect of the game. Unfortunately, the combination of really sensitive mouselook, slow move speed, and flashing lights kind of made me a little nauseous towards the end.

I can tell you put a good amount of effort into crafting the story and it really feels like its on the right track - reminded me a good deal of the game "Ether One." Nice job!

Really cool conecpt and very complete. Well done! The only thing i found a little jarring was the camera going up stairs, maybe just a flat collision plane would have been a little smoother. But this game made me get out a notepad and that is an awesome thing so thanks!

adonisdevs 2021-04-28 20:43

A neat atmosphere, but I could not figure out the password. Any chance I could see a walkthrough? Interesting concept, though :)

the-g 2021-04-28 20:49

I liked this a lot!

Idk why my comments keep ending up as replies but here's my feedback

Cool mystery game with nice graphics. I liked the way you used props in the environment to show the story to the player rather than explicitly tell the player (Much like the portal series). It really adds to the overall mood of the game.

Two things that are worth noting: 1. The exit is available to be interacted from the beginning of the game. I think this is a bug? Either way it makes it somewhat confusing as to what the goal of the game is since the bolt cutters serve no purpose if the door can be opened whenever 2. The game seemed to loop right back to the beginning and i'm not sure if this is intentional or not because of the "All roads lead to omni" intro.

I also got stuck a bit from not knowing that a silver anniversary is a 25 year anniversary, I had to google that bit. But that might just be me being dense.

Overall a great story game that kept me engaged. I would love to see this expanded further.

daniel-whittaker 2021-04-28 20:55

@scowling-pastry Thanks for the detailed feedback! Not sure what happened with you being able to open the exit door from the start, first time hearing this bug. As for wether the game looping was intentional or not, maybe..or maybe i just ran out of time :P. Ill let you decide

daniel-whittaker 2021-04-28 20:55

@adonisdevs Ive uploaded a walkthrough to the itch page :)

someone 2021-04-28 20:59

Very nice game. Intriguing story and great atmosphere. You can actually open the chained gate after picking up the red key card. I was quite confused here as I never saw the 'you need a bolt cutter' message. Made more sense on the second attempt. Also password puzzle requires external knowledge. Managed to guess it after several tries though.

daniel-whittaker 2021-04-28 21:04

@someone ahhhhh i see! Thank you for that, i shall fix the bolt cutter bug right now!

daniel-whittaker 2021-04-28 21:13

Bolt cutter exploit fixed! Thanks for the helpful feedback to find it @someone and @scowling-pastry !

This easily gets full marks from me for mood, really well done, the atmosphere created with the minimal elements used is fantastic. Great job on the audio and use of lighting and portals to create a small but deep feeling world.

justinmullin 2021-04-28 22:01

This is fantastic. Serious Valve vibes here with some of the "show, don't tell" puzzles, and the voice acting and sound really pull you in. I got super stuck on the password puzzle because I only had 2 of 3 pieces, and didn't realize it. It was pretty frustrating, but I really wanted to see the whole thing so I powered through it, hah. Really cool setting and execution, and you pulled off a ton here.

Put me down as another one that got a bit of motion sickness from this, especially if I stared too closely at the portals when walking through them, as it seems they're static cubemaps or something so they only react to view direction I think? Super minor thing! The portals were really nice looking, and it's impressive that you pulled off a proper portal in Ludum Dare!

I have a weak tolerance for creep factor, but the atmosphere here was sufficient to make my skin crawl a bit, so well done there. I'm very relieved there wasn't a jump scare or something with the talk of "echos" doing weird things, but the writing was very evocative and really got my imagination going for what you might pull next.

All said, this is a really great and ambitious submission. Nice work!

fabula-rasa 2021-04-28 23:22

Had to actually google anniversaries  Very nicely done. Cool atmosphere and a nice little puzzle. The graphics on the portal are really cool. And the changes to the environment when going through portals are also nice.

The sound is quite low - I had to bump all my settings all the way up. It's not a problem, just thought you'd like to know. I did not really see a connection to the theme of the jam. But other than that - nice trailer!

There is no way out of this loop! But the blackboard did tell me that I am the solution... so, I have to keep looping

studio-gomp 2021-04-28 23:57

This is a very neat concept! I too got stuck on anniversaries, haha. My biggest critique is that the mouse sensitivity is quite high and the movement speed is a bit slow.

Thanks for bringing your game by my stream for playtesting! Sorry I wasn't able to get to it when you were around. If you'd like to watch the play and commentary you can view the highlight at https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1008724058

We played your game in multiplayer two days ago during our stream. Here is a link to the exact place in the video archive if you wish to see it again: https://www.youtube.be/watch?v=aC3sZsRjx5g&t=10123s

One of the best story/puzzle game I played. Very well put together. The story was the perfect length for a jam too, long enough to be complex and short enough to be completed and provide satisfaction.

The only things I would improve are:

The bloom on the portal is too much, the light from it was really blinding to see in the overall dark environment.

The voice over narration was really low for me, it would help greatly to add subtitle as you already have the tech present in your game. (some subtitle appear when you mouse over some items)

But overall, congratulation, this is an amazing game!
