Nice work! I like where you took the theme.

One thought for advice, look into some recommended color palettes, as the colors in the game are pretty dark and run together.

Keep it up!

newbiedev 2020-10-05 06:36

The game juice in this one is awesome. Satisfying kills and scoreboard.

As mentioned previously, it is quite dark and had a difficult time distinguishing the background and the player

kovalok 2020-10-05 07:08

@dharby Thanks a lot for your comment. I'll definitely look those on my next jam!

kovalok 2020-10-05 07:09

@newbiedev Thanks! Now that you said it is pretty dark. I'll look those next time I do a solo jam!

I like the mix between zombie apocalypse and running... interesting idea :D. You might check the ammo, I am not sure if it is correct.

beavergames 2020-10-05 16:58

You somehow combined 2 incompatible genres. Very good!

nicoccino 2020-10-05 21:17

Felt very satisfying killing all those zombies. (SFX + blood particles are great!)

My score :) score.png

@rgilpt The WebGL version seems to have some problem with the clip size upgrade  The windows build was fine when I tested but thanks for noticing!

@beavergames Thanks!

@nicoccino Thanks for the kind words and nice score!

Well this was an epic game. My first impression was that I just started laughing when I saw the graphics and the music started playing. They fit in very well with each other :D I went 0iq for a while and didn't realise you could sprint and you had to complete the track to get extra things, but when I did realise it became a lot more fun! It was really satisfying to shoot the zombies and the power-ups were sick. My personal favorite was easily the insane running speed and also the 3-way bullet spread thing.

One thing that mayyyyyybe could've been added, would have been that maybe the blood would have faded away at some point or maybe if they had a bit smaller particles, but that might just be my preference. Either way not a lot of trouble there.

Sfx were good, didn't have any problems with any mechanics, and it was just a fun old school shooter game. Good entry dude!

**EDIT** *forgot to mention that the health and stamina were also balanced well!*

kovalok 2020-10-06 10:50

@raffe Thanks for the praice! I too am really happy for the result. The particles for the blood are pretty big but that was the point. And they do fade away but only after 50 seconds so you can see for a little while where you have killed zombies.

Extremely fun game man! The game feel was fantastic; very satisfying, music was epic, and sound was punchy. Great gameplay balance as far as I got. Idea fit the theme really well while also being original. Power-ups such as the flash speed one felt epic to use and were a nice addition. Upgrades were a fine inclusion too.

The UI is the one thing I feel could have been improved (+ the font of controls text sticks out a bit from the rest) and perhaps some of the graphics, but as a compo game this one was really impressive. Great job!

kovalok 2020-10-06 13:39

@justmars Thanks for the compliments and improvement ideas! This was the first time I did any sort of graphics and I agree that they could be improved a lot. I decided to use different font for the controls so they would be easier to read. Good points anyway!

The game feels great to play and killing the zombies is super satisfying. When you get powerups it feels so good especially the infine ammo/rapid fire one. The upgrades didn't seem super effective when I played but perhaps I just got unlucky with the random pool.

The only area where this came would improve is in the art and UI/UX. The dark colour theme can make it a bit hard to pick the important information you need and having to look down to the bottom left to see your stamina/health when you are fighting off zombies in the upper right corner can be a little annoying. This is a super minor issue especially considering you made this in 48 hours. Anyway, the game is heaps of fun as is!

judgezedd 2020-10-07 09:31

Very satisfying twin-stick style shooter, with a neat implementation of the theme. I thought zombie games were overplayed and done, but I'd never played as a track runner trying to just get my laps in with a shotgun before, so clearly, I was wrong.

fryer 2020-10-07 09:42

Fun game, started out hard, then got very easy when I upgraded to one-shot bullets, then started getting harder again because so many zombies spawned. In my attempt to escape them I picked up a super speed power-up and managed to glitch through the fence, but the power-up ran out and I couldn't get back in. So I started shooting the zombies on the other side of the fence, got one kill, but then the zombies started pushing eachother through the fence. I ran away from them for a while and the game crashed. :joy:

The collision seems to be a bit buggy in general, especially when the bullets go straight through zombies without hitting them. In that case I'd suggest using something like raycasting to make sure bullets can't skip things between updates.

The power-ups were nice, but that speed power-up was definitely too fast and hard to control.

The music was fitting and didn't feel too repetitive, and the sound effects (and all that blood, so SO much blood!) added to the satisfaction of killing the zombies. The upgrade sound effect was a bit loud compared to everything else though.

phillserrazina 2020-10-07 09:43

Couldn't get past 20k score but you got me to play again just to see all the upgrades! Loved the boost that gives you super speed :joy:

kovalok 2020-10-07 10:22

@fryer The collision is just Unitys colliders that work in this case good enough. You are the first one to admit got through the fence so congratulations on that! Thanks for the nice words!

@phillserrazina Good to hear you wanted to play again!

@judgezedd Maybe this will bring all the zombie games to an end

@layne-stokes I have heard that the damage upgrade is the best so if you get only reload speeds it may not feel as useful. I'm mainly a programmer and this was my first try to make graphics  Thanks for the compliments!

chickencastle 2020-10-07 10:42

I'm not sure if I was just unlucky or bad at this, but i felt like I just got completely swamped with zombies from the moment I started :( They are faster than me, attack faster and swarm on me before I can even get a lap in haha I did manage to get one power up which was sweet, but then the zombies weren't spawning lol Cool game though, like the concept. It's a great implementation of the theme! :D

eugenik 2020-10-07 11:02

cute graphics and very simple. I love it.

apbakeware 2020-10-07 13:24

A fun game. Kids and I played countless times of "racing" around the track and killing the zombies. The game mechanics were quick and easy to learn and play. I love games with this "old-school" feel of graphics. My only improvement suggestions would be to support keypad in addition to the mouse to support laptop play, and some of the fences seemed to be blurry. All in all, though, this was a very fun game. My kids keep going back to play it so that's a win in and of itself.

kovalok 2020-10-07 13:45

@apbakeware Very heart warming to hear your kids like the game. :) Thanks for the comment

patrickrmc 2020-10-07 15:49

Enjoyable! Some issues were the speed at the start, and how difficult it felt trying to kill the zombies with the very limited stamina and clip size compared to the fast hard hitting zombies, but overall a pretty good submission. Good job on finishing!

ursagames 2020-10-08 05:16

Your game was played on my stream ( https://www.twitch.tv/ursagames/videos ) on 10/7. Thank you for sharing your game with us! You can find the timestamp of when your game was played here: https://tinyurl.com/yy4oycvv

kovalok 2020-10-08 06:36

@patrickrmc That is true. You basically have to just run around the zombies with sprint and then shoot them

@ursagames Thanks a lot for playing it
