LD47 — Stuck in a loop

A bright light flashes and when it subsides... by KunoNoOni 2020-10-10T14:21:26Z

Great idea of a text adventure game. First one I've come across so points for originality. It brings back fond memories of the Zork series long ago. Well done providing and in-depth, well thought out story for such a quick turn around time.

Rim of Zitra by Listonos 2020-10-10T14:14:24Z

Great feeling of mood on a creative adaptation of the theme. Fun choose your own adventure game.

Race Condition by pekuja 2020-10-05T04:05:04Z

I like the unique idea of "racing your past self." The gameplay is nice and smooth too. I like the attention to detail for the quick turn-around jam such as the stands with spectators.

What Goes In Must Come Out by SimplePotential 2020-10-05T04:15:07Z

I like the DOS style feel. It really plays like one. I think the game struck a balance between easy and hard. With more time, I think that icons to help differentiate between colors would help color-blind players like myself. Although this might take away from the style of game the blocks provide.

The Loop by minibobbo 2020-10-05T03:39:09Z

Classic SNES vibe clearly came through. Nice smooth game play and controls. Nice job!

Trouble in the Loop by DMac 2020-10-06T03:52:09Z

The bowling ball textures are really nice and look great. While maybe not what you intended, the great think about these quick time frames are seeing what comes out and how developers adapt to them! Nice job getting the game out.

Etracyte by bentglasstube 2020-10-10T14:08:26Z

I really liked the pixel art and the introductory cut scene. The game mechanics are fluid and easy to pick up. I think its also really cool that its your own engine and uses cellular automata. I did see a crystal or two that seemed to be stuck in an inaccessible region. Well done.

Dino Chomp by diaonic 2020-10-06T03:11:21Z

Who doesn't like a dinosaur game? A nice platformer with fun graphics. A few tweaks could make the gameplay much smoother. A smoother rotation around the dinosaur during the wall climb and smoothing the speed out of the dash could make the transition smoother and less jarring. That said, the game is enjoyable and plays nicely.

Loop Swat 'em Gravity by Nick Rafalski 2020-10-05T03:33:14Z

The smooth sleek graphics are an instant draw. This easy to learn, difficult to master game was a great play, both solo and a pass-and-play with the kids trying to one up each other. The unexpected sound effects had us all cracking up as we played an wondering what would be said next. Great job.

Kinalo by mutuware 2020-10-05T15:07:11Z

As previous said, the mood is well set. While the game feels incomplete, the foundation is set for a fun game.

Troubleshooter: A Drag and Drop Adventure by Phlip45 2020-10-10T15:55:19Z

Really fun adventure game with game play cards. I really like the pixel art for the game play and the mesmerizing star field in the background. The settings menu gives the game a nice feel of polish. A lot of thought about the story and items went into making this game.

2 opportunities for improvement I would suggest is to use a font for the card text which matches the pixel art feel of the game throughout. Also, consider keypresses for card play to simplify play without a mouse.

Great job.

Spyral by Symnel 2020-10-05T04:20:12Z

Has a Roblox "Obby" feel to it. Could use more obstacles to avoid or randomization. Good start.

Motor Loop by Mr.WVJ 2020-10-05T15:10:33Z

Same, 404 error. Make it public?

Knock, knock... Boooooo by FussenKuh 2020-10-05T03:30:39Z

Apology accepted from a color blind guy! Eventually made it through (with some help). This game has it all packed into a classic. Physics, particle effects, sound effects, and colorized code IDE spice up this old-school Knock Knock joke! Great investment for 5 hours!

Loopball by Teapoly 2020-10-06T04:13:56Z

Very interesting and enjoyable game with a very unique control interface. Very enjoyable. I can definitely see this game becoming a mobile hit with more levels. A great play, especially as your "fall-back".

Ring Rush by blotosaur 2020-10-06T04:05:07Z

Unique take on the theme and a great game play. It took me a few tries to get the hang of the mechanics, but once I got the hang of it it was really fun. I like the fact that even with the same levels, each play is different based on your timing and control.

in Dreams you can't find clocks by OmarMoBadr 2020-10-10T15:00:20Z

The story driven adventure game is ambitious but well done. I would suggest that the pace of the dialog screens be increased or may click-to-proceed to get into the game. Audio monolog of the text could really drive up the mood. I think the concept is really strong and could be developed into an really neat game.

A Boy and his Ghosts by Rolly 2020-10-10T14:41:01Z

Very fun take on a puzzle game. I liked the challenge of getting the timing right with the ghosts. Also, guilty pleasure, it was fun to make a bunch of ghosts all synchronized jumping of the platform. The dancing is the best part of the game.

Cluck of the Time Egg by Yeomsley 2020-10-06T03:40:20Z

All around great game. This is my first jam, but wasn't expecting to see an RPG. This game brought back fond memories of the original Final Fantasy (I still have my original Nintendo Power guide in my basement my kids find fascinating). I love it. The sound effects are great and the graphics have that old school feel.

Altered Nexus by clemonades 2020-10-05T15:21:27Z

Love the inspirational messages. They make for a feel good game. Took me a couple runs to discover "double jumping" but after that I didn't want to stop. Really well done.

Crazy Running Cow by Vollfeiw 2020-10-10T14:30:26Z

The cow theme with farm audio affects are great for the mood. The graphics are impressive too, especially for a quick weekend. The smooth well done graphics and audio environment make this game really enjoyable. The only things I would suggest are to leave the lap completion text up for longer, its really quick and progressively add more obstacles to the track to increase the challenge level.

F=g(m1m2/d^2) by mungobulge 2020-10-05T15:29:21Z

I like the gravity idea and the boost & asteroid. I may prefer additional uses of the boost or asteroid as opposed to restarting the level. That said, I found myself determined to find a way to reach my ship.

Eternal Run by kovalok 2020-10-07T13:24:54Z

A fun game. Kids and I played countless times of "racing" around the track and killing the zombies. The game mechanics were quick and easy to learn and play. I love games with this "old-school" feel of graphics. My only improvement suggestions would be to support keypad in addition to the mouse to support laptop play, and some of the fences seemed to be blurry. All in all, though, this was a very fun game. My kids keep going back to play it so that's a win in and of itself.

Karmic Circle by TheConfusedCyborg 2020-10-05T04:28:47Z

I really enjoyed the concept of changing your character based on how you died, innovative. Additional obstacles in the level to avoid or longer maps would make the game more challenging and replayable.

Pollution by Athryell 2020-10-05T16:50:46Z

One of the best implementations of the theme I've played. Great gameplay. Great sound effects (I love the this style). All packaged with a social message. Cut up those 6-pack containers!

Get out of the Traffic Circle! by APBakeWare 2020-10-06T03:14:39Z

@flashcash0402 Those are some good suggestions. I was hoping to get some simple AI into the cars, but alas, the clock got me. A 3D version is an interesting idea. Maybe I'll explore it as I get more into Unity. Thanks for playing.

Get out of the Traffic Circle! by APBakeWare 2020-10-06T03:16:01Z

@sriram070 Thanks. It was fun to make and learn Unity. Also a great opportunity to show my kids how "games are made" and that they don't "just happen".

Get out of the Traffic Circle! by APBakeWare 2020-10-06T03:18:12Z

@merkisoft @mungobulge Thanks for the feedback. Like car AI (above) changing your own speed was on the table got cut. It'd definitely on the TODO list to keep tinkering with the game. As for the radio stations, well, I'm even less musically inclined than I am graphically inclined.

Get out of the Traffic Circle! by APBakeWare 2020-10-06T03:21:25Z

@theconfusedcyborg Thanks for the info. I'm not sure why Firefox would play the music, you really missed out :smirk: I'll have to talk to the QA department and find out why. That said though, they probably won't listen since testing was largely eliminated from the budget to hit the deadline

Get out of the Traffic Circle! by APBakeWare 2020-10-06T03:22:20Z

@clemonades Yup! When I was "testing" I more often than not found myself making big cone pileups and experimenting with the physics. Unity is great! I can't believe how really easy it is to pick up and become productive. A great piece of integrated software. Amazing more still that is free (until I make a lot of money making games).

Get out of the Traffic Circle! by APBakeWare 2020-10-06T03:25:52Z

@symnel Hmm...I've not experienced the screen moving. As for the size of the track, I was trying to strike a balance between the viewport size and aspect ratio to provide the best window into the game. I think there is probably more still to be tried. As for the mouse? I actually never used a mouse playing it while building it on my laptop. Add to the testing checklist (which will probably get chopped again next time).

Get out of the Traffic Circle! by APBakeWare 2020-10-08T12:33:56Z

@dmac Yup, similar. I've gotten a couple dizzy comments. Something to bear in mind for next time.

@captaindreamcast Play more (more testing?) I have noticed the screen moving some. Odd. Not sure what to do about it. I'll have to dig into it. I am glad you enjoyed yourself. The arcade feel seem like the easiest way to get into the Jam and try to learn Unity. I'd like to say pushing cars with cones was an intentional aspect of the design, but when I discovered it playing, I like it and kept it in.

@yeomsley @simplepotential Thanks for playing. The radio stations were a fun late addition. Glad I squeezed them in.

@blotosaur The obstacle generation is really just purely random between one of five locations and the obstacle type. I was worried that it may produce hard to play situations, especially as the loop went on.

@cryptomnesic Personal every time I drive them too! and a bit of an adventure and hoping someone doesn't drive right into it!

@kovalok Thanks. The theme was tough to get into but once I got the concept I felt like it was fun. Plan was for more in depth radio stations, but didn't get around to it. Thanks for playing.

It Makes Plants... by Aaron Smith 2020-10-05T15:02:17Z

Cool game concept. I feel a bit like WALL-E trying to maintain a planet all by myself! I think this game is a solid foundation for adding additional challenges or ways to interact to grow the environment. Nice job.

Koinax Loop by dreamscale 2020-10-05T15:39:02Z

Really, a lot packed into 1 weekend of development. The terrain mountain and canyon graphics were really nice. The controls were very intuitive.
