"You caused an accident!" "Accident ahead!"

I feel like I'm in my own personal rendition of that classic scene from National Lampoon's European Vacation  It felt satisfying that I could push traffic cones/barrels(?) out of the way and that oil slicks (I refuse to consider them pot holes!) caused me to lose control. I also quite liked the radio. Great job, especially for learning Unity in 48 hours!

flashcash0402 2020-10-05 03:36

I liked the theme a lot.. I feel like you could have done better in the graphics. Also the game play was awesome. Make the cars faster.. and possibly make the game 3d.. and it will be awesome! These are just things to improve, not flaws. The game is awesome by itself

sriram070 2020-10-05 03:42

Amazing gameplay !!!. Great job on the radio btw. Great game to have been made in 2 days

pekuja 2020-10-05 06:45

Good use of the theme! Also nice job learning Unity in a short time! I like the radio, that was a fun idea! :) The game does have some quirks, like that your car goes faster when it's on the far edge of the roundabout, and you can actually crash your car *after* making it to the home exit. :D

merkisoft 2020-10-05 08:06

matches theme for sure and you learnt Unity, well done! the rotation speed should change per lane, maybe you could give it a try and change your code (should not be too hard :)) also nice idea with the radio, although i would have done less songs with more quality.

mungobulge 2020-10-05 15:48

I love the radio, it adds depth to your game. I think the game is too slow, perhaps it should go quicker and quicker as the game goes.

theconfusedcyborg 2020-10-05 16:21

The radio didn't work for me (firefox), but I liked the game anyway, had a bit of that crazy taxi feel! I could see this being a really fun mobile game!

clemonades 2020-10-05 18:15

hahaha this was great! I also like that I have the option to ignore the rules and let my road rage run rampant! :) Great job, how did you end up liking unity?

symnel 2020-10-05 20:31

My screen is moving on its own after playing for a few minutes, makes me dizzy. The loop was a bit small, but the different music and the different obstacles were a nice addition to the game. Making it possible to start and restart with the keyboard and not the mouse would've been nice to have.

apbakeware 2020-10-06 03:14

@flashcash0402 Those are some good suggestions. I was hoping to get some simple AI into the cars, but alas, the clock got me. A 3D version is an interesting idea. Maybe I'll explore it as I get more into Unity. Thanks for playing.

apbakeware 2020-10-06 03:16

@sriram070 Thanks. It was fun to make and learn Unity. Also a great opportunity to show my kids how "games are made" and that they don't "just happen".

apbakeware 2020-10-06 03:18

@merkisoft @mungobulge Thanks for the feedback. Like car AI (above) changing your own speed was on the table got cut. It'd definitely on the TODO list to keep tinkering with the game. As for the radio stations, well, I'm even less musically inclined than I am graphically inclined.

apbakeware 2020-10-06 03:21

@theconfusedcyborg Thanks for the info. I'm not sure why Firefox would play the music, you really missed out :smirk: I'll have to talk to the QA department and find out why. That said though, they probably won't listen since testing was largely eliminated from the budget to hit the deadline

apbakeware 2020-10-06 03:22

@clemonades Yup! When I was "testing" I more often than not found myself making big cone pileups and experimenting with the physics. Unity is great! I can't believe how really easy it is to pick up and become productive. A great piece of integrated software. Amazing more still that is free (until I make a lot of money making games).

apbakeware 2020-10-06 03:25

@symnel Hmm...I've not experienced the screen moving. As for the size of the track, I was trying to strike a balance between the viewport size and aspect ratio to provide the best window into the game. I think there is probably more still to be tried. As for the mouse? I actually never used a mouse playing it while building it on my laptop. Add to the testing checklist (which will probably get chopped again next time).

dmac 2020-10-06 04:09

Hah, your game and mine are similar concepts. I felt really dizzy playing yours! The handling felt pretty good though, music was charming.

captaindreamcast 2020-10-06 16:52

Haha, yeah, after playing for a while the screen is moving on its own, like when you finish watching movie credits and the screen still seems to move.

But yeah, the game was a very fun arcade-y take on the theme. I enjoyed challenging myself again and again to try and get further in the loop. My favorite strat was using cones as intermediaries to push other cars away from the side (if only it was that simple in real life). The radio stations were a lot of fun too, that reminded me of titles like Outrun where you can also choose your music, that's always a great addition for car games. So yeah, great job on your game and great job learning Unity that quickly!

yeomsley 2020-10-06 19:58

Nice game! I enjoyed the radio stations as I veered in and out of traffic

simplepotential 2020-10-06 23:10

Changing the radio was a nice touch. A good use of theme and controls were pretty good

blotosaur 2020-10-07 01:53

The physics collider was pretty accurate, but sometimes it seamed there wasn't a way through. Really liked that you put an option for changing radio stations, even though they were quite simple tunes. Good work making this and learning Unity in 48 hrs! Keep at it.

cryptomnesic 2020-10-07 02:31

Traffic Circle 2: this time, it's personal.

kovalok 2020-10-07 06:25

Nice game and fit the theme very well. I also liked that you could change the radio station. Would have loved to hear more different kind of musics though. Controls also felt nice.

apbakeware 2020-10-08 12:33

@dmac Yup, similar. I've gotten a couple dizzy comments. Something to bear in mind for next time.

@captaindreamcast Play more (more testing?) I have noticed the screen moving some. Odd. Not sure what to do about it. I'll have to dig into it. I am glad you enjoyed yourself. The arcade feel seem like the easiest way to get into the Jam and try to learn Unity. I'd like to say pushing cars with cones was an intentional aspect of the design, but when I discovered it playing, I like it and kept it in.

@yeomsley @simplepotential Thanks for playing. The radio stations were a fun late addition. Glad I squeezed them in.

@blotosaur The obstacle generation is really just purely random between one of five locations and the obstacle type. I was worried that it may produce hard to play situations, especially as the loop went on.

@cryptomnesic Personal every time I drive them too! and a bit of an adventure and hoping someone doesn't drive right into it!

@kovalok Thanks. The theme was tough to get into but once I got the concept I felt like it was fun. Plan was for more in depth radio stations, but didn't get around to it. Thanks for playing.

floata-1 2020-10-12 21:30

rather dizzying game good application of the theme , very likable , controls were pretty good. very good entry.
